Best For

  • Fast response time, mostly recovered by 0.5 seconds
  • Excellent edge support—33% better than average
  • Flippable firmness and reversible cover

Considerations

  • Higher levels of motion transfer, may be disruptive for couples
  • 11.5″ thickness is slightly thinner than average
  • Lower bounce levels than average

Our Verdict

The Snooze Flip is an all-foam mattress with an 11.5″ thick profile and a memory foam comfort layer. This mattress is designed as a convertible, flippable mattress with 4 different ways you can configure it.

The Flip has a different firmness on each side of the mattress (medium-firm or firm) as well as a flippable cover. One side of the cover is designed to have a cooler feel, while the other side is designed to be warmer. However, in our tests I found both sides to be about the same in terms of cooling.

Both motion transfer and sex performance left something to be desired. However, pressure relief, response time, and edge support were all excellent.

The Snooze Flip is ideal for those sleepers who want and will take advantage of the flippable design and different firmnesses.

Note – Our tests and data are primarily based on the medium-firm side. However, we also conducted tests on the firm side for pressure relief, sinkage, and firmness.

How is the Snooze Flip Different?

The Snooze Flip mattress has about average performance and a price that is above average—27% more expensive than the average all-foam mattress.

Snooze Flip Sitting
Snooze Flip Sitting

Motion transfer levels measured 21% higher than the average. Edge support was also better than average—33% better than average.

Cooling is slightly below the average and response time took slightly longer than average as well. Because of the low levels of bounce (only 5.59″), the sex score took a significant hit.

Considering preferential factors, this mattress has significantly less sinkage than average on both the medium-firm and firm side. Despite this the lower sinkage, the medium-firm side still had a balanced level of hug and contour. However, the firm side has a dramatic floating feel and minimal hug.

Cooling Test

Cooling performance on the Snooze Flip is good, but didn’t quite reach the “great” or “exceptional” level.

Baseline Temp.

82.2° F

Max Temp.

92.8° F

Ending Temp.

86.9° F

During our tests, I felt a slight to moderate level of heat retention around my body. From a materials perspective, that makes sense. We have a 11.5” mattress that is 100% foam from top to bottom.

The gel infusion on the medium side helps to improve cooling, as does the thin cover, but neither of these are miracle workers.

Max Temp.

Ending Temp

Snooze Flip After Cooling Test
Snooze Flip After Cooling Test
  • Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
  • Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
  • Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes

I was really perplexed by the brand’s product page indicating that the cover is flippable with one side being the “cool side” and the other being a “deep-pocketed, plush warm” feel.

In my view, this feels like a pretty standard, thin cover. There is no quilting on either side and I disagree that the dark gray side has a “plush” feel. The dark gray side is a touch thicker compared to the white side, but it’s quite minor.

During our tests, I found both sides to feel effectively the same with respect to cooling and overall feel.

In our objective tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 92.8° (3.63° warmer than average).

After we got off the mattress the temperature dropped by 3.8° from minutes 0 to 1 and by 5.9° from minutes 0 to 5.

Compared to the average (based on all of our tests to date), these were 0.78 and 1.11° warmer, respectively.

Heat Dissipation Over Time

All that to say, I wouldn’t say cooling is bad. For many sleepers, this level of cooling performance will be perfectly acceptable. Even so, there is definitely room for improvement, and many who would describe themselves as “hot” or “warm” sleepers will likely find it isn’t cool enough.

Sinkage Test

The Snooze Flip has a very minimal level of sinkage on the medium side and an extremely minimal level of sinkage on the firm side.

Sinkage Depth

1.68″

Average Sinkage

2.19″

Sinkage Feel

Minimal

In our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 1.68” on the medium side. This is 0.51” less sinkage than the average of 2.19”. On the firm side, we measured a sinkage depth of 1.06”.

Both of these measurements are significantly lower than the average.

The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

Snooze Flip Sinkage Test Medium
Snooze Flip Sinkage Test Medium

On the medium side, the mattress has the classic feel of memory foam. The mattress has a high degree of hug and has a precise and exacting body contouring.

While the pressure point sinkage with the medicine ball test was very minimal, for heavier parts of my body (IE, butt, midsection) I felt a more moderate level of sinkage.

Snooze Flip Sinkage
Snooze Flip Sinkage

The firm side of the Snooze Flip has a very different feel. The extremely minimal level of sinkage creates a dramatic floating feel. Your body floats more on top of the mattress, as opposed to being contoured and hugged “in” the mattress.

Neither the feel on the medium or firm side are necessarily good or bad. It really comes down to what your body prefers.

However, both of these feels are quite polarizing, so you really need to ensure that you either love the classic feel of memory foam (medium side) or you want to float more on top of the mattress (firm side).

8.8

Motion Transfer Test

The Snooze Flip has a moderate level of motion transfer. In our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 9.79 m/s². This is 1.71 m/s² more motion than the average of 8.08 m/s².

Max. Acceleration

4.88 m/s²

Min. Acceleration

-4.91 m/s²

Accel. Range

9.79 m/s²

The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.

In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we see the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.21 seconds. Motion declines rapidly thereafter and by 0.85 seconds we’ve returned to near-zero levels of motion.

While the total motion peaks are a little higher than we’d ideally like to see, I am impressed with the level of energy dissipation over time.

Snooze Flip Motion Transfer Chart
Snooze Flip Motion Transfer Chart

We do see a modest level of motion after 0.21 seconds, but it’s still extremely minor.

While an all-foam mattress can be less than ideal for cooling and sex, the energy absorption does help to keep motion transfer in check.

10

Response Test

Recovery time on the Snooze Flip is a bit of a mixed bag. In our tests, we measured a mostly recovered time of 0.5 seconds and a full material recovery time of 1.3 seconds.

Mostly Recovered

0.5 sec.

Complete Recovery

1.3 sec.

While the mostly recovered time of 0.5 seconds puts it in the “extremely fast” category and scores it 0.07 seconds faster than average, the slower response time for full recovery is worse than average.

The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.

The average full material recovery time is 0.87 seconds, making the Snooze Flip’s 1.3-second recovery 0.43 seconds slower than average. Fortunately, the level of sinkage on the Snooze is quite restrained.

As a result, it helps resist overly enveloping sleepers, which can cause sleepers to feel “stuck” in foams that don’t respond as rapidly. Given this fact, I don’t expect the slower full recovery time to be a significant issue for most sleepers.

Bounce Test

The Snooze Flip has a very low level of bounce. In our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 5.59”. This is 4.08” less bounce than the average of 9.67”.

Max. Depth

4.36″

Max. Rebound

1.23″

Total Bounce

5.59″

Ideally, I like to see 8-12” of total bounce height. It’s enough to help improve ease of movement and sex performance, without being so high as to create bad motion transfer issues.

Max. Sinkage Depth

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.

At 5.59” the Snooze is well below the ideal range. At this level of bounce, combined with the all-foam design, many sleepers may feel that it’s more difficult to move around on the mattress, especially on the medium side.

In addition, the low bounce will inhibit sex performance (again, more noticeable on the medium side).

9.9

Edge Support Test

The Snooze Flip has excellent edge support while sitting and good (but not great) edge support while lying.

In our tests, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of just 3.25” when sitting on the absolute edge. This is 0.96” less edge compression than the average of 4.21”.

Max Sinkage

Lying Support

Very Good

The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.

Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

When sitting directly on the edge of the mattress I felt well supported. Lying edge support leaves something to be desired.

I did not feel well supported when lying directly on the edge of the mattress. The lack of a perimeter support foam with a 3.0” classic memory foam on top means we have lots of contouring at the very edge.

The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.

Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.

Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.

As a result, it can cause the portion of the body closer to the edge to contour a little too much, creating a mushier edge. I won’t go as far as to say lying edge support is bad, only that it could be better.

Typically, mattresses with perimeter edge support and/or reinforced support coils provide better-lying edge support.

9.2

Sex Test

The best mattresses for sex have high bounce, good edge support, quiet materials, and good pressure relief and cooling.

These 5 factors make up the NapLab sex performance score.

Sex FactorFactor WeightScoreRating
Bounce60%8.9Very Low
Edge Support20%9.9Excellent
Noise10%10Minimal
Pressure Relief5%9.5Excellent
Cooling5%9.0Very Good

For the Snooze Flip, these individual factors generated a sex score of 9.2.

This score is lower than the average score of 9.6. On the Snooze, the sitting edge support is pretty good, but the lack of bounce definitely holds this mattress back.

Snooze Flip Edge Support Sitting
Snooze Flip Edge Support Sitting

The edge support is excellent, which helps increase the score a bit, but it’s not enough to completely make up for the effects of the lower bounce.

9.5

Pressure Relief Test

Pressure relief on medium side of the Snooze Flip was excellent, while the firm side left much to be desired. In our tests, I did not feel any significant level of pressure point build-up on the medium side.

Comfort Layer

3.0″

Support Layer

8.5″

The mattress has a nice level of body contouring hug, good sinkage (for the heavier parts of the body), and a classic memory foam feel. Some heavier-weighted sleepers could find the limited 3.0” comfort layer to be insufficient.

However, I am pleased that the mattress also incorporates a 1.5” transitional poly foam before you hit the support foam. This combination puts 4.5” of foam between sleepers and the harder support foam layers.

Snooze Flip Side Sleeping
Snooze Flip Side Sleeping

That said, it’s a different story on the firm side. We have no transitional material and just a 3.0” firm layer of poly foam. As a result, it creates a firm to extra firm feel. There is very little body contour and extremely minimal sinkage.

To be comfortable on the firm side you will absolutely need to love the extra firm feel.

Given the firmness, it’s really only an option for some back and stomach sleepers (who strongly prefer the firm feel).

During our pressure relief tests on the firm side, I felt pressure points building in my shoulders and back. Clearly, this level of firmness is not right for me. But there are those who do benefit from the extra firm feel.

9.6

Off-Gassing Test

Off-gassing on the Snooze Flip mattress was strong right out of the box. The odor lingered for 5 days before fully dissipating. This is just slightly longer than the 4-day average among all mattresses tested to date

How firm is the Snooze Flip?

As the name suggests, Snooze Flip offers flippable firmness—a medium-firm feel on one side (6 out of 10) and a firm feel on the other side (8.5 out of 10).

Snooze Flip Mattress Firmness

This range would be suitable for a wide range of sleepers looking for a medium or firm feel.

Support & Sleeping Positions

Support on the Snooze Flip is excellent. During our tests, I felt well-supported in all sleeping positions.

The flippable design gives sleepers two support options, medium (6 out of 10 firmness) and firm (8.5 out of 10). Most sleepers will prefer the medium side, while some back and stomach sleepers (especially those with larger bodies) may prefer the firm side.

The 11.5” total profile of the mattress has sufficient material layers to adequately support sleepers up to 300 pounds. Given the materials, foam density, basic design, and our performance tests, I expect most sleepers will find support to be perfectly fine.

I would recommend the Snooze to the following sleepers:

150-250 lbs.YesYesYes
250-300 lbs.YesYesYes

Design

The Snooze Flip is designed as a 4-in-1 convertible mattress. Both the mattress itself is flippable (with a medium-firm and firm on one side) and the cover is flippable (designed to offer different temperature profiles).

During our tests, I did not feel any significant difference between the different sides of the cover. However, the mattress itself does create two distinct firmnesses.

The Cover

The cover of the Snooze Flip mattress is reversible, which is designed to generate a different feel for each side.

The white side is designed for warmer feel while the gray side provides a cooler feel.

Snooze Flip Mattress Cover Close
Snooze Flip Mattress Cover Close

The entire cover zips off of the mattress and is machine washable. This is a great feature for general maintenance and keeping the mattress looking its best.

Snooze Flip Corner
Snooze Flip Corner

As mentioned above, my personal take on the cover is that each side wasn’t dramatically different. The concept is interesting, but I didn’t really notice major differences when lying on both the cool and warm sides of the cover.

Our objective tests confirmed this feeling as well.

At the end of the day, it is a thin cover, regardless of which side you’re using. It is the foam layers beneath the cover that will more dramatically impact overall performance and feel.

The Comfort Layer

Depending on which side of the mattress you’re lying on, the comfort layer will vary.

The comfort layer on the medium side is made up of a 3.0″ layer of gel memory foam. The gel helps to limit heat retention and the memory foam provides hug, contour, and pressure relief (albeit, with a very minimal level of sinkage).

Snooze Flip Pressing Memory Foam
Snooze Flip Pressing Memory Foam

Below the memory foam is a transitional poly foam. This layer is part for comfort and part for support, as it has a higher density than the comfort memory foam above.

Snooze Flip Measuring Materials

If you’re lying on the firm side, the comfort layer will be a 3.0″ slab of higher-density poly foam (the pink one).

This has a firmer feel and is only 3.0″ thick compared to the 4.0″ thick assembly of the comfort layer on the opposite side.

The Support Layer

Because this is a flippable mattress, the support layer rests in the central core of the mattress and not on the bottom layer. The support layer is a 6.0″ support foam that sleepers can engage with from either side of the mattress.

Product Evolution

The Snoozy Flip first launched in July 2022. Since its release, there have been no major design changes to mention. As the mattresses age, any changes will be updated here.
