Best For
- Fast material response time
- Budget price for memory foam
- Moderate sinkage with low levels of bounce
- 15-year warranty
Considerations
- Low bounce and edge support hurts the sex performance score
- Higher motion transfer spikes, but low motion duration
Our Verdict
The Silk & Snow mattress is a 10″ memory foam mattress made of gel memory foam, transitional poly foam, and a support foam.
This mattress has a moderate level of sinkage and a low level of bounce, both of which are common characteristics of more traditional memory foam.
It is available in a single firmness, 6 out of 10, and has a medium-firm feel.
In our performance tests, the Silk & Snow had below-average overall performance (8.20), but the low price may certainly be an advantage for some sleepers.
For a queen mattress, the Silk & Snow costs only $650, which is 41% less than the average memory foam mattress. For sleepers on a budget, this could be a compelling reason to consider the Silk & Snow.

How is Silk & Snow Different?
The Silk & Snow mattress is a 10″ mattress, with worse overall performance than average, but also a price tag that is below average as well (for a savings of 41% compared to the average memory foam mattress).
Advantages
Besides the low price, other advantages of the Silk & Snow include fast material response time, better-than-average pressure relief, and a longer warranty.
Neutral Factors
Neutral factors include moderate sinkage and low levels of bounce. Both of these factors could be seen as advantages or disadvantages based on a sleeper’s personal preference.
Disadvantages
Disadvantages of the Silk & Snow include cooling (with a moderate level of heat retention for some sleepers) as well as low bounce being non-ideal for sex performance.

Cooling Test
The Silk & Snow mattress has a good level of cooling performance, however, it doesn’t quite rise to the “excellent” or “outstanding” level.
Baseline Temp.
77.9° F
Max Temp.
90.3° F
Ending Temp.
83.3° F
In our tests, I only felt a slight level of heat retention around my body. On the positive side, the mattress uses a thin cover and it’s equipped with reasonably good quality foams that help to resist heat retention.
However, this is still an all foam mattress and it uses memory foam as the comfort layer. Both of these factors cause the mattress to retain more heat compared to mattresses that don’t use memory foam and have better breathability due to a coil layer.
Max Temp.

Ending Temp

- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
In our objective temperature testing, we measured a max surface level temperature of 90.3° F. This is 0.6° warmer than the average of 89.7° (based on all of our tests).
After getting off the mattress the temperature declined by 3.9° from minutes 0 to 1, which is 0.8° warmer than average. From minutes 0 to 5 the decline was 7.0°, which is 0.3° warmer than average.
When we consider the complete picture of objective data, subjective experience, and material analysis, I am confident most sleepers will find the Silk & Snow has a good level of cooling performance.
However, those who describe themselves as “hot” or “warm” sleepers are going to be better off with the Silk & Snow Hybrid.
Heat Dissipation Over Time

Sinkage Test
The Silk & Snow memory foam mattress has a moderate level of sinkage. In our tests, we measured a sinkage depth of 2.15”. This is 0.01” more sinkage than the average of 2.14”.
Sinkage Depth
2.15″
Sinkage Feel
Moderate
The mattress creates a dramatic body contouring hug that we expect from memory foam. The Silk & Snow is equipped with a 2.0” layer of classic gel memory foam on top.
The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

This type of foam is known for its slower material response and significant body contouring hug. The next layer is a 2.0” high-response poly foam, which does help to balance out the feel a bit. Even so, as a whole the mattress is still creating a dramatic memory foam hug.
Motion Transfer Test
The Silk & Snow mattress has a high level of motion transfer. In our tests, we measured an acceleration range of 12.12 m/s². This is 38% more motion than the average of 8.81 m/s².
Max. Acceleration
6.08 m/s²
Min. Acceleration
-6.04 m/s²
Accel. Range
12.12 m/s²
The mattress has a weirdly high level of motion transfer. Typically, all foam mattresses, especially those topped with memory foam have less motion transfer.
However, that’s not what we experienced or measured. In our motion transfer videos with both the medicine ball and liquid vial, you can see considerable movement in each of those objects.
Part of that movement may simply be due to the relative thinness of the mattress. At only 10” thick, the mattress is notably less thick than the average, which is 12.0” (based on all of our tests).
In addition, the cover itself can be seen moving as it’s pulled more taut with our medicine ball drops (especially in the liquid vial demo). This movement is likely contributing to some of the motion transfer.
In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.15 seconds.

Motion plummets thereafter and by 0.52 seconds we’ve returned to near-zero energy levels. While the initial high-motion peak leaves much to be desired, the motion duration is very well restrained.
The mattresses with the lowest motion are able to disperse all energy within 0.3 seconds and the Silk & Snow isn’t far from that mark.
Overall, I am torn on motion. I’m really pleased to see such a rapid dissipation of energy. However, the initial motion spike is still high and could be problematic for some sleepers.
Response Test
The Silk & Snow mattress has a very fast material response. In our mostly recovered test, we measured 0.2 seconds to recover back to shape. This is 0.21 seconds faster than the average of 0.41 seconds.
Mostly Recovered
0.2 sec.
Complete Recovery
0.5 sec.
The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.
In our fully recovered test, we measured 0.5 seconds to recover back to shape, which is 0.38 seconds faster than the average of 0.88 seconds.
Despite the use of memory foam, the mattress can rebound back to shape quickly. This high-response feel ensures you’ll never feel stuck on the mattress and helps keep the mattress easier to move around on.
Bounce Test
The Silk & Snow mattress has a low level of bounce. In our tests, we measured a total bounce range of 6.62”. This is 3.11” less bounce than the average of 9.73”.
Max. Depth
5.24″
Max. Rebound
1.38″
Total Bounce

Max. Sinkage Depth

Max Bounce Height

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.
The low level of bounce is what we expect from an all-foam mattress with memory foam. The foam layers absorb much of the energy from the bounce.
A low level of bounce does help to keep motion in check, but it also inhibits sex performance.
Edge Support Test
The Silk & Snow has good edge support for both sitting and lying. In our sitting edge support tests, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 4.5”. This is 0.45” more sitting sinkage than the average of 4.05”.
Max Sinkage
4.50″
Lying Support
Good
While sitting directly on the edge there is no collapse of materials, but there is also no question that edge support could be better.
The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

Lying edge support was a similar story. While lying directly on the edge of the mattress I felt well supported in all sleeping positions. However, it’s not so good that it rises to the “excellent” or “outstanding” levels of edge support performance.
The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.

Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.

Notably, the mattress lacks any type of perimeter-reinforced edge support foam. In addition, the mattress is only 10” thick. Both of these attributes limit the level of edge support for both sitting and lying. It’s not bad by any stretch, but it’s not quite amazing either.
Sex Test
The Silk & Snow memory foam mattress has a fair level of sex performance. Ultimately, the low level of bounce is an anchor that mattress can escape. The low bounce makes sex more strenuous and difficult.
Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
---|---|---|---|
Bounce | 65% | 6.6 | Low |
Edge Support | 20% | 8.1 | Good |
Noise | 5% | 10 | Minimal |
Pressure Relief | 5% | 9.0 | Excellent |
Cooling | 5% | 8.0 | Good |
In addition, edge support for sex was good, but also far from amazing. While noise is low and pressure relief is excellent, these factors aren’t significant enough to outweigh the negative impact of low bounce.

If sex is important you should absolutely upgrade to the Silk & Snow Hybrid.
Pressure Relief Test
The Silk & Snow mattress has excellent pressure relief. During our tests, I felt no significant level of pressure points anywhere on my body. The mattress creates a comfortable body contouring hug that wraps to your unique shape, while not being so excessive as to create a significant stuck feeling.
Comfort Layer
4.0″
Support Layer
6.0″
The mattress is equipped with a 4.0” comfort layer composed of 2.0” of gel memory foam (4.0 PCF) and a 2.0” poly foam (1.8 PCF) layer within the core.
The top 2.0” memory foam layer is doing most of the heavy lifting with respect to pressure relief. The Silk & Snow mattress has slightly less comfort foam than the average comfort layer thickness of 4.2”.
Despite this fact, it didn’t seem to significantly negatively impact pressure relief performance. I expect most sleepers will find this level of pressure relief to be sufficient.
Pressure Map – Side Sleepers

Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Minimum | Maximum |
---|---|---|---|

Off-Gassing Test
Off-gassing on the Silk & Snow is strong and the smell lasted for 9 days.
Initial Smell Strength
Strong
Off-Gassing Period
9 days
The average off-gassing duration for all mattresses tested to date is 6 days so the Silk & Snow is definitely longer than average, but not by much.
Scoring Note: The above data and score is a second off-gassing test we conducted on this mattress. The original off-gassing test was 32 days. Given the extremely long off-gassing duration of the original test, Silk & Snow believed we received a defective mattress and asked us to re-test a new mattress. We agreed to that re-test.
Company
Silk & Snow has good company policies with a trial of 365 nights as well as free shipping and returns anytime within that time window.
It also comes with a 15-year warranty. The trial is over 2X the length of an average trial period (174 nights) which can be a real perk if you’re hesitant about making the purchase.

How firm is Silk & Snow?
The Silk & Snow mattress has a medium-firm feel with a firmness of 6 out of 10, where 10 is the most firm.

Support & Sleeping Positions
The Silk & Snow mattress has good support. During our tests, I felt well-supported in all sleeping positions.
The mattress is equipped with a 6.0” support foam layer that has a PCF of 1.8. The Silk & Snow’s 6.0” support layer is a good bit less than average. The average support layer thickness is 7.8”.
In addition, the total mattress thickness is lower than average. The average total mattress thickness is 12.0”. The thinner-than-average total profile height, thinner-than-average comfort layer, and thinner-than-average support layer all mean that support may struggle with certain body types.

More specifically, heavier-weighted bodies, bodies with more weight in a certain part of the body (IE, big hips, large chest, etc.), and those who require a more robust level of support and pushback could find support lacking.
Check out the table below to see the sleeper weights and sleeping positions that would be best suited for this mattress.
Sleeper Weight | Stomach Sleepers | Side Sleepers | Back Sleepers |
---|---|---|---|
Under 150 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
150-250 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
250-300 lbs. | Maybe | Maybe | Maybe |
That said, those with more typical support needs should find support to be acceptable.

The Cover
The cover of the Silk & Snow is thin and breathable, with an antimicrobial finish. The fabric is sourced by a local textile company in Toronto, where the Silk & Snow is manufactured.

The Comfort Layer
The comfort layer includes two basic foam types. On top, there is a 2.0″ gel memory foam with a 2.5 lb. density. The secondary layer is a 2.0″ poly foam with a density of 1.8 lb.

This layer is designed to transition sleeper weight from the top comfort layer into the support layer below.
The Support Layer
The support layer is a 6.0″ support foam with a density of 1.8 lb. This base layer is designed to be a supportive foundation for the two foams above.

Product Evolution
The Silk & Snow memory foam mattress has been around since 2017. The original mattress had a cover with a slightly different aesthetic, but in terms of material design it was substantially the same as the version in 2024. The original 2017 Silk & Snow utilized 3 layers of foam with memory foam on top.
By 2019, the cover had been updated to a design that is highly similar to the cover on the mattress today. In 2019, the materials and design were essentially the same as in 2017 and similar to the 2024 model. In 2019, Silk and Snow began disclosing the foam density of each layer. Notably, the top memory foam was a 4.0 PCF layer, with the other two layers being a 1.8 PCF.
The current 2024 version of the Silk & Snow has a design the is very similar to the 2019 version. The only major difference (and it is a major difference) is the top memory foam layer is now a 2.5 PCF density instead of a 4.0 PCF. The lower density helps keep the cost lower, but it also reduces longevity of the mattress.
The foam density of the core layer and base foam layer remains 1.8 PCF (same as the version in 2019, possibly the same as early as 2017, however, we don’t have confirmation on the exact material specs from 2017).
