Our Verdict
The Silk & Snow Organic is a Canadian-made 12″ latex hybrid mattress with a quilted organic cotton and wool cover, latex foam, and pocketed coils. All foams are GOTS certified and the company is aimed at making sustainable choices.
The mattress has extremely deep sinkage and moderate levels of bounce.
It is available in three firmness levels—Plush, Medium-Firm, and Firm. We tested the Medium-Firm and found the firmness to be around 5 out of 10, with a medium feel. We have also tested the Plush version and the Firm version. The Plush has a firmness of 4.5 out of 10 with a soft feel. The Firm version has a firmness of 7.5 out of 10, with a slightly firm feel—not a truly (8 out of 10) “firm feel”, in my opinion.
In our performance tests, the Silk & Snow Organic earned an overall score of 8.60, ranking the mattress in the top 48% of all mattresses tested to date.
The price is also advantageous, $850 for a queen, coming in 45% less than the average latex hybrid price ($1548). This provides a savings of nearly $700 for a queen mattress. Notably, the medium-firm and plush versions are more expensive than the firm, but this is understandable, given that increased material required to achieve the increased soft feel.

How is Silk & Snow Organic Different?
The Silk & Snow Organic is a latex hybrid with above-average performance and a below-average price point, 32.6% less than the average latex hybrid ($1,556) for a savings of just over $500 (on a queen mattress).
Advantages
Advantages of the Silk & Snow Organic include better cooling performance, faster material response time, and better edge support. When seated at the edge, this mattress has 4.0″ of sinkage (4.06″ is average) and excellent lying support.
Pressure relief is also slightly better than average, which is a little surprising given the thinner comfort layer (only 3.5″ thick, 0.7″ thinner than the average).
Neutral Factors
This mattress has extremely deep sinkage and moderate levels of bounce. To be comfortable on this mattress you’ll absolutely need to prefer that deeper sinkage.
Disadvantages
As downsides, the Silk & Snow has higher levels of motion transfer (43% more motion than average) and strong off-gassing.
The average mattress off-gasses within 6 days, but the Silk & Snow took 9 days before the odors had dissipated.
That being said, the odor isn’t a strong chemical smell that is more typical of memory and poly foam mattresses. The smell feels like a typical latex “rubber” smell, but notably strong nonetheless.

Silk & Snow Organic: Plush vs. Medium-Firm vs. Firm
We have personally tested all three different firmnesses including a range of performance categories. The table below outlines the differences between each firmness and how they compare.

Cooling Test
The Silk & Snow Organic has excellent cooling. During our tests, I did not feel any significant level of heat retention around my body.
Baseline Temp.
75.3° F
Max Temp.
89.5° F
Ending Temp.
79.7° F
The mattress breathed well and was comfortably cool during our tests. The Silk & Snow Organic is a latex hybrid with a quilted cover made from wool.
Max Temp.

Ending Temp

- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
Wool and latex are naturally cooler materials that don’t retain heat to the same degree that polyfoam and memory foam do. In addition, the pocketed coil base provides ample airflow.
In our objective temperature tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 89.5° F. This is 0.2° less than the average of 89.7° F, based on all of our tests to date.
Heat Dissipation Over Time

When we consider the combination of objective data, my subjective experiences, and an analysis of the materials, I’m confident in my view that cooling is excellent.
Sinkage Test
The Silk & Snow Organic has extremely deep sinkage. During our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 3.61″. This is 1.45″ more sinkage than the average sinkage depth of 2.16″, based on all of our tests to date.
Sinkage Depth
3.61″
Sinkage Feel
Extremely Deep
The mattress creates tons of sinkage, however, the body contouring hug is more restrained and generalized. Instead of creating a dramatic, sharp, and exacting hug around the body, the mattress creates a more generalized circular depression or bowl around the sleeper’s body.
The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

This feel is neither good nor bad, but it is a more specific feel. For those who really like the way that memory foam contours to the precise shape of the body you will likely find the feel of latex isn’t a good fit.
However, for those who dislike the significant body contour of memory foam the feel of the Silk & Snow Organic should work well.
Motion Transfer Test
The Silk & Snow Organic has a high level of motion transfer. During our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 12.58 m/s². This is 44% more motion transfer than the average of 8.74 m/s².
Max. Acceleration
5.93 m/s²
Min. Acceleration
-6.65 m/s²
Accel. Range
12.58 m/s²
Unfortunately, the Silk & Snow Organic has many material and design choices that increase motion. First and foremost, the mattress allows for an extremely deep level of sinkage. This means the body sinks further into the mattress and closer to the coil layer.
Being closer to the coil layer means more energy is able to significantly rebound through the mattress, thereby creating more motion.
In addition, half of the comfort material is a 1.75” latex. Latex is incredibly springy and responsive, which is great for ease of movement and amorous activities, but not so good for motion transfer.
The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.
In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.29 seconds. There is a notable secondary motion spike from 0.50 to 0.65 seconds. And it’s not until 1.15 seconds that we return to near-zero levels of energy.

Neither the motion duration nor motion intensity are ideal. Both are considerably worse than average and the total motion transfer picture on the mattress leaves much to be desired.
Response Test
The Silk & Snow Organic has an extremely fast material response. In our mostly recovered test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.2 seconds, which is 0.22 seconds faster than the average of 0.42 seconds, based on all of our tests to date.
Mostly Recovered
0.2 sec.
Complete Recovery
0.3 sec.
In our fully recovered responsiveness test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.3 seconds, which is 0.67 seconds faster than the average of 0.97 seconds. These responsiveness speeds are effectively instant and they are on par with other latex and latex hybrid mattresses we’ve tested.
The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.
Latex as a material type is incredibly responsive, springing back to shape quickly. The same is true for metal coils and springs. The high responsiveness ensures the mattress is easier to move around on and you shouldn’t feel stuck in the mattress.
Bounce Test
The Silk & Snow Organic has a moderate level of bounce. During our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 9.48″. This is 0.15″ more bounce than the average of 9.33″, based on all of our tests to date.
Max. Depth
7.44″
Max. Rebound
2.04″
Total Bounce
9.48″
While this is a sufficient level of bounce I was surprised it wasn’t higher. Typically, latex hybrid mattresses have more bounce, as both latex and metal coils are highly responsive and springy.
Max. Sinkage Depth

Max Bounce Height

However, the Silk & Snow Organic also has an extremely deep level of sinkage. In my view, that deeper sinkage is restraining much of the bounce.
The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.
All that to say, this isn’t an unreasonable level of bounce. It’s enough bounce to facilitate ease of movement and amorous activities. For most sleepers, I don’t expect bounce at this level to be a problem.
Edge Support Test
The Silk & Snow Organic has good sitting edge support and excellent lying edge support. In our sitting edge support test, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 4.00″. This is 0.06″ less sitting sinkage than the average of 4.06″, based on all of our tests to date.
Max Sinkage
4.00″
Lying Support
Excellent
While sitting along the edge there was no collapse of materials and the edge remained supportive. Lying edge support was even better.
The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

While lying directly on the edge of the mattress, I felt that the support was excellent in all sleeping positions.
The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.

Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.

The mattress uses two rows of firmer coils that run along the perimeter of the mattress. Coils with extra support along the edge of the mattress are fairly typical among hybrid mattresses. However, these coils in particular are notably firmer and create an unusually high amount of pushback.
When you contrast this with the extremely deep sinkage level you end up with a mattress edge that really wants to push you away from the edge.
This is because the firmer edge support coils are creating substantially more support at the edge and therefore less sinkage. This causes the edge to feel like a physical barrier; it’s harder to lie on or near because it’s creating such pushback.
Sex Test
The Silk & Snow Organic has good sex performance. On the positive side, noise is minimal and both pressure relief and cooling are excellent. Edge support is good, albeit, not amazing.
Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
---|---|---|---|
Bounce | 65% | 8.4 | High |
Edge Support | 20% | 8.8 | Good |
Noise | 5% | 10 | Minimal |
Pressure Relief | 5% | 9.0 | Excellent |
Cooling | 5% | 9.0 | Excellent |
Certainly, there is room for improvement, but for most couples, it should be good enough to not be a major hindrance to amorous activities. Bounce is a similar story.
At 9.48” of total bounce it’s slightly more than average. Even so, when it comes to bounce more is always better and the mattress would have greatly benefited from more bounce.

All that to say, the total sex performance on the Silk & Snow Organic is still good. I was a bit surprised it wasn’t better, as most latex hybrids excel when it comes to amorous activities. Even so, most couples should find it perfectly reasonable.
Pressure Relief Test
The Silk & Snow Organic has an excellent level of pressure relief. During our tests, I felt no significant level of pressure points anywhere on my body.
Comfort Layer
3.5″
Support Layer
8.5″
The mattress is comfortable and quite unique in terms of sinkage depth. At 3.61” of sinkage depth, the Silk & Snow Organic is among the deepest sinkage we’ve tested to date.
That extra sinkage provides great pressure relief. However, the sinkage is certainly best suited to the needs of side sleepers and less so for stomach and back sleepers.
Do note that we tested the medium-firm version. The plush version is likely to have around the same sinkage depth, while the firm version should have less.
The mattress is equipped with 3.5″ of comfort material, which is 0.66″ less comfort material than the average comfort layer thickness of 4.16″, based on all of our tests to date.
In our pressure mapping tests, we measured a max PSI of 0.75. A PSI of 2.0 is a high pressure point and the Silk & Snow came nowhere near that level.
When I consider the objective pressure maps, material thickness, material quality, and my subjective experience on the mattress, I’m confident most sleepers will find the pressure relief to be excellent.
Pressure Map – Side Sleepers

Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
---|---|---|
Side Sleepers | 0.16 | 0.73 |
Pressure Map – Back Sleepers

Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
---|---|---|
Back Sleepers | 0.09 | 0.75 |
Pressure Map – Stomach Sleepers

Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
---|---|---|
Stomach Sleepers | 0.11 | 0.66 |
Off-Gassing Test
The Silk & Snow Organic had a strong smell upon the initial unboxing. The mattress smelled for 9 days. This is 2.6 days more than the average of 6.4 days.
Initial Smell Strength
Strong
Off-Gassing Period
9 days
While the mattress did smell, the type of smell isn’t as offensive as your typical memory foam or poly foam smell. Instead, it’s more the strong odor of rubber from latex and from the wool.
Natural materials, just like synthetic materials, can have a strong odor and some sleepers may find that it’s annoying.

Company
Silk & Snow is a Canadian-based business (that ships to both the US and Canada) with good company policies—a trial of 365 nights as well as free shipping and returns anytime within that time window. It also comes with a 15-year warranty.
Company Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Data |
---|---|---|---|
Trial Period | 15% | 10 | 365 nights |
Warranty | 10% | 8.0 | 15 years |
Shipping | 5% | 10 | $0 |
Returns | 20% | 10 | $0 |
Trust | 50% | 8.0 | Good |
Country of Origin | 0% | Canada |
This trial is over 2X longer than the average trial period (178 nights), which can be a real incentive for sleepers who are unsure about making the purchase.
The warranty is also longer than average—75% of mattresses we’ve tested have a 13-year warranty and 25% of mattresses have a lifetime warranty.
How firm is Silk & Snow Organic?
There are three firmnesses available on the Silk & Snow Organic—plush, medium-firm, and firm. We tested the medium-firm version, which is a 5 out of 10, with a medium feel.
Medium-Firm Version

Firm Version
The firm version is a 7.5 out of 10 firmness, with a slightly firm feel.

Plush Version
And the Plush version is a 4.5 out of 10, with a soft feel.

Support & Sleeping Positions
Support on the Silk & Snow Organic is excellent. During our tests, I felt well-supported in all sleeping positions. The mattress is equipped with a 8.5″ support layer. This is 0.62″ thicker than the average support layer thickness of 7.88″, based on all of our tests to date.
The mattress uses a zoned coil unit, which creates more support in the middle of the mattress. In terms of support materials, the mattress has what we look for. Even so, what concerns me about the Silk & Snow Organic is the polarizing level of sinkage.

During our tests, we measured a sinkage depth of 3.61”. This is an extremely deep level of sinkage. For many side sleepers, this sinkage will help to create a nice level of body contouring and help bring the hips in line with the spine.
However, for many back and stomach sleepers, this is simply going to be too much sinkage. When there is excessive sinkage for stomach and back sleepers it can create an improper alignment for the spine, which can create pressure relief issues, which can create support issues.
To be fair, we only tested the medium-version version. If you are a stomach or back sleeper then opting for the firm version of the mattress would almost certainly create a more appropriate level of support.

Based on all of my tests to date, an analysis of the materials, and my subjective experiences, I’m confident most side sleepers will find support on the Silk & Snow Organic is excellent. If you’re a back or stomach sleeper I would recommend you go for the firm version.

The Cover
The Silk & Snow Organic has a 1.75″ organic cotton cover with a wool quilt layer. Wool acts as a natural fire retardant and prevents the use of harsh additives or chemical fire barriers.
This cover is soft to the touch and has a traditional tufted quilting pattern.

The Comfort Layer
The comfort layer includes a 0.8″ layer of hole-punched Dunlop latex followed by a 1.75″ layer of latex foam (not hole-punched). These latex layers are made of GOTS Certified Latex, making them organic and an attractive pick for environmentally-conscious sleepers.

The Support Layer
The support layer includes an 8.5″ support of pocketed coils. These coils are individually encased in a thin fabric that allows them each to move independently of one another.

Product Evolution
The Silk & Snow Organic latex hybrid was launched back in 2020. Since its release, there have been no major changes made to the mattress, in materials or design.
