Best For

  • Excellent cooling, cool-to-the-touch cover
  • High levels of bounce for good sex performance
  • Good edge support

Considerations

  • Higher bounce means more motion transfer, which could be an issue for sensitive sleepers
  • Only 3.0″ of comfort material may not be suitable for heavier-weighted sleepers

Our Verdict

The Sheets & Giggles mattress is a latex hybrid that has a 3.0″ comfort layer of Talalay latex and support coils below. The mattress cover is made of Eucalyptus Lyocell, which is a fabric derived from the pulp of eucalyptus cellulose.

This mattress offers high bounce, good edge support, and excellent cooling at a budget price. It is made with eco-friendly materials, like renewable latex and recycled steel, as well as being free of some of the common offenders (ie: cruelty-free, polyurethane-free, fiberglass-free, plastic-free, etc.)

Cooling Test

The Sheets & Giggles Eucalyptus mattress has excellent cooling. Throughout our tests, I felt no significant level of heat retention. This is the level of cooling performance I expect from a latex hybrid.

Baseline Temp.

73.6° F

Max Temp.

87.2° F

Ending Temp.

79.1° F

Max Temp.

  • Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
  • Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
  • Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes

Latex does not retain heat like many poly and memory foams do. Furthermore, the layer of pocketed coils provides plenty of airflow to the mattress at large.

This type of latex hybrid is a proven design we’ve tested numerous times. It’s simple, but it gets the job done and creates excellent cooling performance. Our objective data confirmed my subjective experience on the mattress.

The Eucalyptus had a max surface level temperature of 87.2° F. This is 2.2° cooler than the average (based on all of our tests to date). The heat dissipation was also quite impressive.

Heat Dissipation Over Time

From minutes 0 to 1 the temperature dropped 4.5° (0.8° better than average) and from 0 to 5 minutes we measured a drop of 8.1° (1.8° better than average).

Sheets & Giggles Eucalyptus heat dissipation chart

Overall, the Sheets & Giggles mattress has fantastic cooling performance.

Sinkage Test

The Sheets & Giggles Eucalyptus has a minimal level of sinkage. In our pressure point sinkage test, we measured 1.85” of sinkage.

Sinkage Depth

1.85″

Sinkage Feel

Minimal

This is 0.39” less than the average of 2.17” (based on all of our tests to date).

The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

Sheets & Giggles Eucalyptus sinkage test
Sheets & Giggles Eucalyptus sinkage test

While the depth of sinkage in our pressure point tests was minimal, I did note significantly more sinkage in my mid-section, hips, and butt. In general, the mattress has a higher level of pushback.

As a result, lighter portions of your body (head, arms, feet, etc.) float more on top of the mattress. At the same time, the heavier portions of your body (butt, midsection, thighs, hips) sink notably deeper into the mattress.

Sheets & Giggles Eucalyptus sinkage
Sheets & Giggles Eucalyptus sinkage

Many side sleepers enjoy this type of sinkage, as it can help to create a more neutral alignment. However, back and stomach sleepers may find it has the opposite effect.

The Eucalyptus creates a more strained hug around the body.

This is in contrast to memory foam and many poly foams, which create a more exacting and sharper body hug.

The mattress feel is highly responsive with high resiliency and more pushback.

8.2

Motion Transfer Test

The Sheets & Giggles Eucalyptus has a high level of motion transfer. In our tests, we measured 12.08 m/s² of acceleration range. This is notably more than the average motion transfer of 8.51 m/s² (based on all of our tests to date).

The level of motion transfer is documented in the video below.

As with cooling performance, the level of motion transfer is unsurprising. Latex as a material creates lots of response and bounce. Similarly, the coil unit also creates ample bounce.

Max. Acceleration

5.69 m/s²

Min. Acceleration

-6.39 m/s²

Accel. Range

12.08 m/s²

When you bring latex and coils together in a single design you create an environment for lots of motion transfer.

This isn’t an issue with Sheets & Giggles specifically, but rather the nature of the latex hybrid design across all brands.

If you want to experience the feel and benefits of latex, dealing with a higher level of motion transfer comes with it.

Sheets & Giggles Eucalyptus motion transfer chart
Sheets & Giggles Eucalyptus motion transfer chart

As you can see in the chart above, energy levels from the initial bounce were quite high and that energy reflected motion across the mattress for over 1.7 seconds. Peaks were felt at 0.2 seconds, 0.7 seconds, and 1.1 seconds.

10

Response Test

The Sheets & Giggle Eucalyptus has an extremely fast response time. In our tests, we measured a mostly recovered response of 0.2 seconds and a fully recovered response of 0.3 seconds. This is tied for 1st as the fastest-responding mattress we’ve tested to date.

Mostly Recovered

0.2 sec.

Complete Recovery

0.3 sec.

The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.

Latex is known for its rapid response, so it was no surprise to see such excellent performance. The Eucalyptus is significantly faster than the average.

Based on all of our tests to date, we’ve measured an average mostly recovered response of 0.48 seconds and an average fully recovered response time of 0.90 seconds.

Faster responding materials help make it easier to move around, easier to get in / out of bed, and improve sex.

Bounce Test

The Sheets & Giggles Eucalyptus has a very high level of bounce. In our tests, we measured 13.97” of total bounce height. This is 4.63” more bounce than the average of 9.65”.

Max. Depth

6.20″

Max. Rebound

7.77″

Total Bounce

13.97″

Max. Sinkage Depth

Sheets & Giggles Eucalyptus bounce depth

Max Bounce Height

Sheets & Giggles Eucalyptus bounce height

The level of bounce is similar to more traditional coil and spring mattresses. It really springs back to shape with significant force and speed.

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.

Higher bounce is great when it comes to ease of movement and sex. However, as we noted above, it also creates more motion transfer.

I prefer to see 8-12” of bounce. As a result, the Sheets & Giggles is a good bit beyond that. When mattresses start to exceed 12” we see more significant issues with motion transfer.

9.6

Edge Support Test

Sheets & Giggles has excellent edge support for both sitting and lying. In our sitting edge support tests, we measured a total sinkage depth of 3.75”. This is slightly less sitting sinkage than the average sinkage of 4.11” (based on all of our tests to date).

Max Sinkage

3.75″

Lying Support

Excellent

Even when sitting directly on the edge I felt well-supported.

The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.

Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

Edge support while lying was equally as impressive. While lying directly on the edge of the mattress I was well-supported in all sleeping positions.

The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.

Oftentimes, latex struggles with edge support. However, here we see quite good performance, most likely created by the coil unit. With respect to edge support, I don’t have any major complaints.

9.8

Sex Test

The best mattresses for sex have high bounce, good edge support, quiet materials, and good pressure relief and cooling.

These 5 factors make up the NapLab sex performance score.

Sex FactorFactor WeightScoreRating
Bounce60%10Very High
Edge Support20%9.6Excellent
Noise10%9Moderate
Pressure Relief5%9.5Excellent
Cooling5%9.5Excellent

For the Sheets & Giggles Eucalyptus, these individual factors generated a sex score of 9.8.

Sheets & Giggles Eucalyptus edge support - sitting
Sheets & Giggles Eucalyptus edge support – sitting

This mattress has very high levels of bounce and good edge support. These two factors alone make up 80% of the sex score.

It is cool, has good pressure relief, and is quiet in motion as well. Overall, there’s not much to not like about the expected sex performance on the Sheets & Giggles mattress.

9.5

Pressure Relief Test

The Sheets & Giggle mattress has good, but not amazing pressure relief. The pressure relief is driven through the 3.0” of natural latex. 3.0” is on the thinner side of what I typically like to see as far as a comfort layer goes.

Comfort Layer

3.0″

Support Layer

8.0″

Many mattresses utilize a 4-6” comfort layer. With only 3.0” the mattress can only do so much in terms of pressure relief, as your body puts more pressure on the latex and coil unit.

Body parts that sink through the latex and into the less pressure-relieving coil unit are more likely to experience an increase in pressure points.

Sheets & Giggles Eucalyptus edge support - side sleeping with vest
Sheets & Giggles Eucalyptus edge support – side sleeping with vest

Side sleepers and heavier-weight sleepers in particular are at greater risk for pressure relief issues.

Most lighter-weight sleepers, in addition to back and stomach sleepers, should not experience any pressure issues. All that said, in my view, most sleepers will still find the level of pressure relief to be good enough.

9.7

Off-Gassing Test

Off-gassing on the Sheets & Giggles mattress was about average in terms of performance. Right out of the box, the smell was strong initially and it smells for 4 days.

Initial Smell Strength

Strong

Off-Gassing Period

4 days

But once it had fully off-gassed we did not detect any issues with odors or off-gassing. Notably, the off-gassing smell is the smell of rubber and latex. It’s strong, but it’s not offensive and overpowering in the same way that off-gassing from a memory foam or poly foam mattress would be.

9.8

How firm is Sheets & Giggles?

The Sheets & Giggles Eucalyptus mattress is a medium firmness, 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale where 10 is the most firm.

firmness - 6 out of 10 - medium

This firmness may cause lighter sections of the body to float more on top, which may result in a firmer feel in some sections of the body and/or for lightweight sleepers.

More moderate and heavier-weighted sleepers will experience it more consistently feeling around a 6 out of 10.

Support & Sleeping Positions

The Sheets & Giggles Eucalyptus mattress has excellent support. During our tests, I felt well-supported in all sleeping positions.

Sheets & Giggles uses a proven latex hybrid design. An 8.0” pocketed coil unit supports 3.0” of comfort foam, delivering ample support for most body types and all sleeping positions.

Sheets & Giggles Eucalyptus back sleeping
Sheets & Giggles Eucalyptus back sleeping

I am confident the mattress can support up to 300 pounds per side.

My only concern is for some stomach and back sleepers.

The Eucalyptus allows for a higher degree of sinkage when heavier weight is applied, especially as it is in the midsection. As a result, this can cause the midsection of the stomach and back sleepers to sink too deep into the mattress.

That said, the same type of deeper sinkage is ideal for many side sleepers. The mattress feels best suited for side sleepers and lighter / moderate-weighted bodies.

Heavier-weighted bodies, especially back and stomach sleepers, may find the midsection support to be lacking.

Materials

There are three main layers on the Sheet & Giggles mattress. From top to bottom, the layers include:

  • 1.5″ natural latex
  • 1.5″ natural latex
  • 8.0″ pocketed coils

The Cover

The Sheets & Giggles mattress has a eucalyptus lyocell cover. This material is soft, stretchy, breathable, and helps repel moisture.

There is a linear quilted pattern, which gives the mattress a soft, yet textural feel.

The Comfort Layer

Beneath the cover is the comfort layer. The comfort layer is made up of two different Talalay latex foams.

Sheets & Giggles Eucalyptus top latex layers

The top layer is a perforated latex, which is responsive, cool, and adds softness. The second layer of latex has a firmer feel and helps to transition weight and pressure from the comfort layer into the support layer below.

The Support Layer

The support layer is made of pocketed steel coils. These coils are individually encased in a thin fabric which allows each coil to move independently from each other. This increases pressure relief as well as limits motion transfer.

In its largest size, there are up to 1,032 coils used in this layer.

Product Evolution

The Sheets & Giggles brand launched in May of 2018 starting simply with Eucalyptus Lyocell bed sheets. In 2022, the Sheets & Giggles Eucalyptus mattress was launched into the eco-friendly market.

Since this is a new product, there have been no changes to the or development to the design, materials, or construction of this mattress.

Other Mattresses to Consider

Not sure if the Sheets & Giggles mattress is right for you? Here are three other alternative latex hybrid options you may want to consider.

For Motion Transfer

Avocado Eco material layers

Avocado Eco

Less Motion Transfer

The Avocado Eco mattress is another latex hybrid mattress with a 10″ profile. and at a similar price point. Like the Sheets & Giggles mattress, the Eco also has a 2.0″ layer of natural latex + coils, but this mattress generates about 75% less motion than the Eucalyptus.

For Pressure Relief

Birch Luxe material layers

Birch Luxe

More Luxury Feel

The Birch Luxe has an extra 1.5″ in comfort material that is found in the quilted, tufted cover. This gives the Birch Luxe a deeper contour and excellent pressure relief. This mattress can support up to 1,000 lbs.

For Alternate Firmness

Nest Bedding Owl material layers

What are Sheets & Giggles sheets made of?

A set of Sheets & Giggles sheet sets are made of 100% eucalyptus lyocell with a sateen weave. Lyocell creates great cooling and breathability using natural materials. The eucalyptus lyocell in these sheets comes from a variety of farms across the world, with locations in India, South Africa, Sweden, and Canada.

Are eucalyptus sheets worth it?

Eucalyptus sheets are fantastic for cooling and for use of eco-friendly materials. If you’re a hot sleeper or are simply looking for better breathability and a cool-to-the-touch feel, you may really enjoy the benefit of this material.

Are bamboo or eucalyptus sheets better?

Both bamboo and eucalyptus sheets are both solid eco-friendly picks, but have different pros and cons. Both are made from the fibers of a plant that is woven into fabric and both are very good for cooling. Eucalyptus sheets are cool-to-the-touch and slightly more eco-friendly (because of their production process), but some will argue that bamboo is actually cooler and a higher-quality sheet.
