Our Verdict
The Saatva Latex Hybrid is a 12” latex hybrid mattress made of natural latex and pocketed coils. In addition, it includes a 1.0″ quilted cover and 5 unique zones for better support.
It has minimal sinkage and high bounce, giving the mattress a more balanced contour and responsive surface.
It comes in a single firmness of 6.5 out of 10, where 10 is the most firm, giving it a medium-firm feel. This makes it a good option for all body types and sleeping positions.
The Saatva is the highest-scoring latex hybrid we’ve tested to date and is not that much more expensive than the average. This makes it an easy recommendation from us and a great choice for any sleeper who just wants the best latex hybrid.

How is Saatva Latex Hybrid Different?
The Saatva Latex Hybrid has an overall performance level that is well above the average mattress and a price tag that is also above average. Compared to the average latex hybrid, the Saatva Latex Hybrid is 28% more, being $466 more expensive.
Advantages
The Saatva Latex Hybrid is the best latex hybrid we’ve tested to date and excels in all categories. Cooling, motion transfer, response, edge support, sex, pressure relief, off-gassing, and company policies are all above the average performing mattress.
Neutral Factors
Sinkage is more shallow than the average mattress and bounce is higher. These are preferential factors but still important to consider.
Disadvantages
One of the only downsides for the Saatva Latex Hybrid is the price, but even then it isn’t outrageously expensive.

Cooling Test
Cooling performance on the Saatva Latex Hybrid was excellent. During our tests, I felt no significant level of heat retention around my body.
Baseline Temp.
77.9° F
Max Temp.
91.0° F
Ending Temp.
82.6° F
The mattress uses a simple, but proven material layer design. Natural latex doesn’t retain heat in the same way that poly and memory foam will.
Max Temp.

Ending Temp

- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
In addition, the support coils provide ample airflow for the mattress, creating great breathability. Saatva also takes it to an extra level with a thick layer of wool quilted within the cover. Wool, like latex, is non-heat retentive and breathes well.
During our objective testing, we measured a max surface level temperature of 91.0° Fahrenheit. From minutes 0 to 1 the temperature declined by 6.9° (2.3 better than average).
Heat Dissipation Over Time

From minutes 0 to 5 the temperature declined by 8.4° (1.4° better than average). When we look at the complete picture of objective data, subjective experience, and material analysis, I am confident that a vast majority of sleepers will find the Saatva Latex Hybrid sufficiently cool.
Sinkage Test
The Saatva Latex Hybrid has a minimal level of sinkage. During our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 1.85”. This is 0.29” less sinkage than the average of 2.14”.
The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

This is a pretty typical feel for a latex hybrid. The mattress creates a more restrained and generalized contour around the body. This is in contrast to memory and many poly foams, which create a more exacting contour that forms to your precise shape.
In contrast, the Saatva Latex hybrid has a generalized circular depression where the body lies.
All that said, the mattress definitely leans more in the direction of “floating on top” of the mattress, as opposed to lying down “in” the mattress.
This is neither good nor bad, but it is a specific feel. Sleepers who prefer a less dramatic sinkage level will find the Saatva Latex hybrid the most comfortable.
Motion Transfer Test
The Saatva Latex Hybrid has an extremely low level of motion transfer. In our tests, we measured an acceleration range of 3.13 m/s². This is 5.66 m/s² less than the average of 8.79 m/s².
Max. Acceleration
1.60 m/s²
Min. Acceleration
-1.53 m/s²
Accel. Range
3.13 m/s²
The level of motion transfer is documented in the video below.
I was exceedingly impressed by the low level of motion. Generally, latex and latex hybrid mattresses struggle with motion, as both material types have a higher level of bounce.
However, the Saatva still managed to keep motion in check. In my view, it’s likely a combination of the thick quilted layer of wool and a higher-performance pocketed coil unit that helps the mattress keep motion in check.

Looking at our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we see the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.21 seconds. Motion begins to decline thereafter, but it’s not until 1.35 seconds that motion returns to near-zero level.
The motion duration certainly is higher than we like to see. Even so, the total motion intensity is extremely low. I do not expect most sleepers will find motion transfer to be problematic.
Response Test
The Saatva Latex Hybrid has an extremely fast material responsiveness. In our tests, we measure a mostly recovered response time of 0.2 seconds and a fully recovered response time of 0.3 seconds. This is tied for the fastest response times we’ve tested to date.
Mostly Recovered
0.2 sec.
Complete Recovery
0.3 sec.
The near-instant response speed was as expected and on par with most other latex hybrids we’ve tested.
The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.
Latex as a material type creates an effectively-instant material response. The fast response ensures sleepers never feel stuck, makes it easy to move around on the mattress, and also improves sex.
Bounce Test
The Saatva Latex Hybrid has a high level of bounce. In our tests, we measured 10.82” of total bounce height. This is 1.22” more bounce than the average of 9.60”.
Max. Depth
5.30″
Max. Rebound
5.52″
Total Bounce
10.82″
Yet again, the latex hybrid design is driving much of the performance. Both latex and pocketed coils as individual material types have a high level of bounce.
While the bounce is high relative to all mattresses we’ve tested, it’s also moderately less than what we typically see from latex hybrids.
Max. Sinkage Depth

Max Bounce Height

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.
On average, latex hybrid mattresses we test have 12.99” of total bounce. While higher bounce can be a boon for sex, when we see bounce in excess of 12” we also start to see more significant issues with motion transfer.
At 10.82” of bounce height the Saatva is in a sweet spot that maximizes sex and ease of movement while minimizing motion transfer issues.
Edge Support Test
The Saatva Latex Hybrid has outstandingly good edge support for both sitting and lying.
Max Sinkage
3.00″
Lying Support
Outstanding
In our sitting edge support tests, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 3.0”. This is 1.02” less edge compression than the average of 4.02”.
In general, I like to see 4.0” of sitting edge sinkage or less. Saatva easily exceeded my benchmark. Even when sitting directly on the edge of the mattress I felt fully supported. Lying edge support was equally as impressive.
The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.

Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.

When lying at the absolute edge of the mattress I felt well-supported in all sleeping positions. Saatva uses a pocketed coil support unit with incredibly robust edge support coils running along the perimeter of the mattress.
Latex hybrids often struggle with edge support, as latex as a material type isn’t the most supportive material at the edge. Despite the latex limitations, the coil unit still is able to provide exceedingly good support at the edge of the mattress.
Sex Test
The best mattresses for sex have high bounce, good edge support, quiet materials, and good pressure relief and cooling.
These 5 factors make up the NapLab sex performance score.
Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
---|---|---|---|
Bounce | 65% | 9.3 | Very High |
Edge Support | 20% | 10 | Outstanding |
Noise | 5% | 10 | Minimal |
Pressure Relief | 5% | 9.0 | Excellent |
Cooling | 5% | 9.0 | Excellent |
This mattress exhibits high levels of bounce, excellent edge support, is quiet, has good pressure relief, and good cooling.

Overall, there is nothing about the Saatva Latex Hybrid that is working against it in terms of sex performance. As a result, we see perfect performance for the dance without pants.
Pressure Relief Test
Pressure relief on the Saatva Latex Hybrid is excellent. During our tests, I felt no significant level of pressure point build-up anywhere on my body.
Comfort Layer
4.0″
Support Layer
8.0″
The mattress does a nice job of finding the balance between creating fantastic support, while also creating appropriate comfort and pressure relief. Many latex hybrids can struggle in this area, as oftentimes they just don’t use enough latex or other comfort materials.

This creates more body contact with support coils, which can create pressure. In the case of the Saatva Latex Hybrid, we have a 3.0” layer of natural latex and an organic cotton cover with 1.0” layer of wool padding.
With 4.0” of comfort material the mattress is able to create solid pressure relief with a design that’s still natural and organic. Overall, I’m pleased with the level of pressure relief performance.
Off-Gassing Test
Off-gassing on the Saatva Latex Hybrid was non-existent. The Saatva Latex Hybrid mattress ships uncompressed, which really eliminates any off-gassing issues.
Initial Smell Strength
None
Off-Gassing Period
0 days
Upon arrival, there was zero strong odor coming off the mattress. For some context, the average off-gassing duration is 7 days.
Company
The company score takes a look at factors that may influence your experience with the mattress.
Factors include length of the trial period, warranty, shipping / return costs, and country of origin.
Company Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Data |
---|---|---|---|
Trial Period | 25% | 10 | 365 nights |
Warranty | 25% | 10 | Lifetime |
Shipping | 25% | 10 | $0 |
Returns | 25% | 9.0 | $99 |
Country of Origin | 0% | USA |
Saatva comes with a long 365-night trial period and a lifetime warranty. Shipping is free and you can return the mattress at any point during the trial (for a $99 fee).
Comparing all mattresses tested to date, this trial is over twice as long. Furthermore, it joins 25% of the other mattresses we’ve tested with lifetime warranties.
How firm is the Saatva HD?
The Saatva Latex Hybrid has a medium-firm feel, with a firmness of 6.5 out of 10 (where 10 is the most firm).

For heavier sleepers, this is firm enough to be supportive while still allowing for a certain degree of softness to cater to lighter sleepers.
Support & Sleeping Positions
Support on the Saatva Latex Hybrid is excellent. During our tests, I felt well-supported in all sleeping positions. The mattress composition and firmness create appropriate support for all sleeping positions and most body types.

The mattress uses a proven material design with 1.0” of wool quilting (for pressure relief and moisture management) on top of a 3.0” latex layer (for comfort and contour) on top of an 8.0” zoned support coil unit (for support).
Both the latex layer and coil layer are zoned, meaning they create more support / firmness where your body needs it to better create a neutral spinal alignment.
Sleeper Weight | Stomach Sleepers | Side Sleepers | Back Sleepers |
---|---|---|---|
Under 150 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
150-250 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
250-300 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Overall, I’m pleased with the level of support performance on the Saatva Latex Hybrid.
One final note for heavier-weight sleepers.
Sleepers over 300 pounds are going to be served best by the Saatva HD (see our review here) or another HD / Plus-sized mattress. But for all other weights, I am confident that the Saatva Latex Hybrid will create proper support.
Design
The design of the Saatva Latex Hybrid is a 12″ mattress with three separate layers. It has a medium-firm feel, 6.5 out of 10 where 10 is the most firm.
Type
Latex Hybrid
Thickness
12″
Firmness
6.5
It is designed to be suited to a wide range of sleepers, while also providing the material benefits that latex is best known for.

Materials
The Saatva Latex Hybrid is a 12″ mattress with a quilted cover, natural latex comfort layer, and zoned pocketed coil support base. From top to bottom, here is a more detailed look at the makeup of each layer.
- 1.0” quilted cover
- 3.0” natural latex (zoned)
- 8.0” pocketed coils (zoned)

The Cover
The cover of the Saatva Latex Hybrid is a 1.0″ quilted composition made of New Zealand wool. It has a soft finish with a good degree of contour and plushness.

The sides of the mattress have a wave-like stitching pattern with the Classic Saatva cording at the edges.
There are also carrying handles on both long sides of the mattress which makes it easier to move or reposition the mattress.

The Comfort Layer
The comfort layer is a 3.0″ slab of hole-punched latex foam. It has a zoned design with includes 5 unique zones. A zoned system provides better support and pressure relief for different parts of the body.

The Support Layer
The support layer is made of an 8.0″ pocketed coil system. The coils are individually encased (unlike the coils on the Saatva HD, which are not pocketed).
In addition to a pocketed design, the Latex Hybrid coils are also zoned, providing better pressure relief and support at different parts of the mattress.

The support layer also includes an edge foam at the perimeter of the mattress that helps dampen sound, improve edge support, and help the mattress prevent sagging.
Product Evolution
The Saatva Latex Hybrid was originally launched in 2021 and has not undergone any changes since the initial launch.

For Free Pillows

Birch
9.44 Overall Score
The Birch mattress is the second-highest-performing latex hybrid that we’ve tested to date. It has a thinner comfort layer (2″ + quilted cover) than the Saatva, but also a slightly lower price. It also comes with 2 free pillows which is a nice add-on if you’re purchasing a new complete bedding set.
For Budget

Awara
9.26 Overall Score
The Awara Latex Hybrid is a 10″ thick hybrid with a 2″ comfort layer and solid performance across the board. I will also note that it has a higher level of bounce than the Saatva, likely a product of the 10″ profile height and thinner mattress cover. This mattress costs $1099 for a queen, a savings of almost $800 compared to the Saatva.
For Softer Feel

Avocado Eco
9.26 Overall Score
The Avocado Eco has a slightly softer feel (5.5 out of 10) compared to the Saatva Latex Hybrid (6.5 out of 10). For lighter sleepers or just those who prefer a softer feel, the firmness alone could be a tipping point to consider the Avocado Eco.
