Best For
- Extremely fast material response time
- Budget-friendly price point
- Lightweight or moderate-weighted sleepers
Considerations
- Higher level of heat retention
- Not ideal for heavier sleepers
- Edge support worse than average
Our Verdict
The Polysleep Origin mattress is a budget-friendly all-foam mattress with a 10″ thick profile (the mattress we received was only 9.5″, possibly a manufacturing defect). It has a medium-firm feel and is best suited to lightweight to moderate-weighted sleepers.
Performance-wise, the Origin struggled in a few areas, with cooling being the most significant. However, it does offer a good value to sleepers who simply cannot spend more.
While the mattress is far from perfect, it did showcase excellent material response speed.

How is Polysleep Different?
The Polysleep Origin mattress has a lower-than-average performance, but also a price that is 24% lower as well—compared to the average foam mattress.
Advantages
The Origin has slightly less motion transfer than average, as well as faster material response time.
Neutral Factors
Considering preferential factors, the Polysleep Origin has less surface sinkage than average, as well as lower levels of bounce. Both of these factors are neither good nor bad, but they will notably influence the feel of the mattress.
Disadvantages
Cooling performance is below average with slightly deeper levels of sinkage in our edge support tests.
The Origin has a 10″ thickness (mattress we received was only 9.5″), which is notably thinner than the 11.9″ average thickness among all mattresses tested to date.
Cooling Test
Cooling performance on the Polysleep Origin was fair, but far from great. In our tests, I felt a moderate level of heat retention around my body.
Baseline Temp.
81.4° F
Max Temp.
92.2° F
Ending Temp.
86.7° F
The mattress is all foam and contains no cooling fabric, no cooling fibers, no coils for airflow, and no specialized cooling foam.
Granted, there is no memory foam, which is something. Even so, there is just nothing that’s able to take the cooling performance to the next level.
Max Temp.

Ending Temp

- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
In our objective testing, we measured a max surface level temperature of 92.2° F, which is 2.97° warmer than average.
Being warmer than average isn’t always an issue of poor performance, especially for our tests during the Arizona Summer. However, the limited heat dissipation in the 5 minutes after we got off the mattress tells a less-than-great story.
From minutes 0 to 1 the temperature declined by 3.9°, which is 0.68° warmer than average.
Likewise, from minutes 0 to 5 the temp dropped by 5.5°, which is 1.5° warmer than average. The ending temperature was 86.7° F, which is 4.46° warmer than average.
Heat Dissipation Over Time

When we look at our subjective experience, objective data, and material analysis, we have a cooling performance that leaves much to be desired.
Sinkage Test
The Polysleep Origin has a very minimal level of sinkage. In our tests we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 1.64”. This is 0.48” less sinkage than the average of 2.12”.
Sinkage Depth
1.64″
Sinkage Feel
Very Minimal
The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

Notably, the heavier portions of my body received a more moderate level of sinkage. Overall body contouring is fairly balanced, owing to the all-poly foam construction. However, it is still an all-foam mattress, so there is more hug than a traditional coil mattress is going to have.
Motion Transfer Test
The Polysleep Origin has a low level of motion transfer. In our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 7.72 m/s². This is 0.43 m/s² (5.6% less) less motion than the average of 8.15 m/s².
Max. Acceleration
3.97 m/s²
Min. Acceleration
-3.75 m/s²
Accel. Range
7.72 m/s²
The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.
The all-foam design did a great job of absorbing and dissipating energy. In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we saw the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.14 seconds.
Motion drops significantly after and we see a minor level of energy until 0.63 seconds before it returns to near zero levels.

While I do wish the motion peak was a little lower, I am pleased with the level of motion duration. Most sleepers will find this level of motion transfer to be low enough to avoid disturbance.
Response Test
The Polysleep Origin has extremely fast material responsiveness. In our tests, we measured a mostly recovered response time of 0.2 seconds and a fully recovered response time of 0.3 seconds.
This is tied for 1st as the fastest material recovery speed we’ve measured to date. The foams rebound back to shape essentially instantly.
Mostly Recovered
0.2 sec.
Complete Recovery
0.3 sec.
The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.
The highly responsive feel ensures you’ll never feel stuck on the mattress. It’s incredibly easy to move around on the mattress, especially with the more restrained level of sinkage.
Bounce Test
The Polysleep Origin has a low level of bounce. In our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 7.31”. This is 2.32” less bounce than the average of 9.63”.
Max. Depth
4.13″
Max. Rebound
3.18″
Total Bounce
7.31″
The all-foam design absorbs much of the energy, which keeps bounce quite restrained. In general, I like to see 8-12” of total bounce. At this height it’s enough to experience the best benefits (ie, sex and ease of movement), while keeping negatives in check (motion and trampoline feel).
Max. Sinkage Depth

Max Bounce Height

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.
At 7.31” the bounce level on the Polysleep is below my ideal threshold. The biggest detriment to the lower bounce is a weakened sex performance (which we discuss 2 sections down).
Edge Support Test
Edge support on the Polysleep Origin in regards to sitting was fairly good, but lying support left much to be desired. In our sitting edge support tests, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 4.5”.
This is 0.31” more sinkage than the average of 4.19”. While sitting on the absolute edge I felt reasonably well supported, but it’s clear by the level of sinkage that it’s far from great support.
Max Sinkage
4.50″
Lying Support
Mediocre
The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

Edge support while lying was a fair performance at best. While lying on the absolute edge of the mattress I did not feel well supported. Most sleepers will want to move a few inches away from the absolute edge in order to feel well-supported.
The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.

Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.

This level of edge support performance is typical for a mattress of this thickness. At 10″ (mattress we received only measured 9.5”) there just isn’t a ton of material to create support in general. When you extend that to the very edge, you end up with a level of support that just isn’t incredible.
Sex Test
The best mattresses for sex have high bounce, good edge support, quiet materials, and good pressure relief and cooling.
These 5 factors make up the NapLab sex performance score.
Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
---|---|---|---|
Bounce | 65% | 7.0 | Moderate |
Edge Support | 20% | 8.1 | Good |
Noise | 5% | 10 | Minimal |
Pressure Relief | 5% | 8.0 | Good |
Cooling | 5% | 7.0 | Fair |
This mattress has low levels of bounce, which is the primary culprit for worse performance. Edge support was good, but not great. These two factors alone make up 80% of the sex performance score.

Noise is minimal, pressure relief is good, and cooling is good, but not great. Overall, the Polysleep Origin is fine for sex, but also not amazing either.
Pressure Relief Test
Pressure relief on the Polysleep Origin is good, but not great. In our tests, I felt a slight level of pressure point buildup during our tests. It wasn’t anything extreme, but it was noteworthy enough.
Comfort Layer
3.0″
Support Layer
6.5″
Thinner mattresses, especially those that are less than 10” thick often have more trouble with pressure relief, as there is simply less physical material to comfort sleeper bodies.

This is doubly true for heavier-weight sleepers, whose body weight will create more pressure on the mattress. For many lighter and moderate-weighted sleepers I could see this level of pressure relief working perfectly fine.
However, many heavier-weighted sleepers will find it’s just not a thick enough support or comfort layer. All that to say, given the price point, performance isn’t bad by any stretch, but it could be better.
Off-Gassing Test
Off-gassing from the Poylsleep is good. The smell was strong right out of the box. The smell lasted for 7 days before fully dissipating.
Initial Smell Strength
Strong
Off-Gassing Period
7 days
The initial odor smelled a good bit like wet paint. It’s a pretty offensive smell, especially if you’re sensitive to strong odors.
That being said, once the mattress fully off-gassed, the original odor wasn’t much of an issue.
Company
The company score takes a look at factors that may influence your experience with the mattress.
Factors include length of the trial period, warranty, shipping / return costs, and country of origin.
Company Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Data |
---|---|---|---|
Trial Period | 15% | 8.0 | 100 nights |
Warranty | 10% | 8.0 | 10 years |
Shipping | 5% | 10 | $0 |
Returns | 20% | 7.0 | $85 |
Trust | 50% | 8.0 | Good |
Country of Origin | 0% | Canada |
This mattress comes with a 100-night trial period and a 10-year warranty. Shipping is free, but if you decide that you want to return the mattress, there is an $85 return fee.
Polysleep is manufactured in Canada and the Polysleep Origin is only available in Canada. There is also a Polysleep mattress available in the US (made in Canada), but we haven’t tested that model yet.
How firm is Polysleep?
The Polysleep Origin has a firmness of 6 out of 10, where 10 is the most firm. This gives the mattress a medium-firm feel.

A firmness of this level is suitable for a wide range of sleepers. It’s firm enough to provide support for moderate-weighted sleepers while also being soft enough to allow for contour and pressure relief for lighter sleepers.
Support & Sleeping Positions
Like pressure relief we found the support to be good, but not great. In our tests, I felt well-supported in all sleeping positions. My chief support concern is simply the level of thickness.

The mattress is only 10” (our mattress only measured 9.5″), uses an all-foam design, and has a 3.0” comfort layer. This design is better suited to the needs of lighter-weight bodies. Heavier-weighted bodies are more likely to experience support and pressure relief issues as there is simply not enough material.
This isn’t an issue with Polysleep Origin specifically, but rather most mattresses that are 10” or thinner. All that to say, I would not recommend this mattress for most sleepers over 250 pounds. You will be far better off with one of Polysleep’s thicker mattresses, including the Aura or Zephyr.
Sleeper Weight | Stomach Sleepers | Side Sleepers | Back Sleepers |
---|---|---|---|
Under 150 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
150-250 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
250-300 lbs. | No | No | No |
Design
The Polysleep Origin has an all-foam design and a 9.5″ profile thickness. While online, Polysleep refers to the Origin as a 10″ thick mattress, when we cut it open, we clearly see that it is not quite there.
Type
Foam
Thickness
9.5″
Firmness
6
Thickness aside, the Origin has a medium-firm feel with a firmness of 6 out of 10, where 10 is the most firm.

Generally speaking, the Polysleep is a budget-friendly mattress made for lightweight or moderate-weighted sleepers.
It is a thinner mattress and just not designed for deeper pressure relief or support of heavier bodies.
Materials
As mentioned above, there are 9.5″ of material on this mattress. From top to bottom, the Polysleep Original has three layers.
- 1.0″ poly foam
- 2.0″ poly foam
- 6.5″ support foam

The Cover
The cover of the Polysleep Origin is thin a stretchy, made of a blend of polyviscose (41%), polyester (58%), and spandex (1%).

Beneath the cover is a thin fire sock followed by the three foam layers.

The Comfort Layer
The comfort layer is made up of two layers of foam—a 1.0″ poly foam and a 2.0″ transitional poly foam. These layers work together to provide comfort and contour above the support layers.

The Support Layer
The support layer is 6.5″ thick at the base of the mattress. It has the highest firmness of all three foams used and has the job of primary support for the layers above.

As sleepers lay on this mattress, they will engage more deeply with the support layer depending on how heavy they are.

Product Evolution
Polysleep was originally launched in 2018 as a budget-friendly mattress company.
In 2020, the Origin and Zephyr mattresses were added to the Polysleep collection. The Origin 2.0 is the updated (and current) version of the Origin mattress, which was released in 2023.
Comparing the material list from the original Origin and the Origin 2.0, I see no notable differences.
Other Mattresses to Consider
The Polysleep Origin mattress is a good option for lightweight or moderate-weighted sleepers looking to stay within a tight budget. That being said, there are other high-quality mattresses that are worth considering.
For Performance

Douglas
9.02 Overall Score
The Douglas mattress is a 10″ all-foam mattress that has very well-rounded performance across the board. Like the Polysleep, the Douglas also uses a poly foam comfort layer and has a full 4″ of comfort material. It has a similar firmness to the Origin and is also available in both the US or Canadian mattress markets.
For Hybrid

Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid
8.88 Overall Score
The Signature Hybrid by Brooklyn Bedding is a 10.5″ hybrid mattress that has 2.5″ of comfort foam and 8.0″ of pocketed coils for support. This mattress has higher levels of bounce and also higher levels of motion transfer. If you’re looking for a more engaging mattress with a thicker profile, the Brooklyn Bedding Signature can be a good choice.
For Pressure Relief

Ghostbed Classic
8.76 Overall Score
The GhostBed Classic mattress has higher performance all around compared to the Polysleep Origin (also costs more). The GhostBed uses a blend of latex foam and memory foam for a balanced feel. The foams used on the GhostBed are capable of supporting heavier-weighted sleepers.
