Best For

  • Extremely fast response time
  • Excellent edge support
  • Medium feel (5/10)

Considerations

  • Cooling is okay, but not great
  • Higher levels of motion transfer
  • Pressure relief may not be suitable for heavy sleepers

Our Verdict

The Polysleep Aura mattress is an 11″ foam mattress with a medium feel. Overall performance is pretty solid on the Aura. This mattress is thinner than the average (by nearly 1.0″) and also has less comfort material (only 2.5”, which is 1.6” less than the average.)

To be fair, the mattress does use a 2.0” transitional layer, which could be considered a comfort layer (bringing it to 4.5”). However, that core transitional poly foam just isn’t blowing me away in terms of quality.

The Aura isn’t a bad mattress by any stretch. In our tests, I found pressure relief and edge support to be excellent, while response was instant. However, the cooling and motion left much to be desired. Given the price point, it’s one that I felt should have been a stronger performer.

How is Poly Sleep Aura Different?

Performance on the Polysleep Aura is slightly lower than average performance and the price tag is 13% higher than average, compared to the average foam mattress.

Beyond price and performance alone, here are the strengths and weaknesses that we noted in our performance tests.

Edge support is 17% better than average and the thickness of foam above the support is technically higher than average, but as explained above, the transitional foam (middle layer) just isn’t that impressive.

Cooling performance struggled more than average and the Aura also has 15% higher levels of motion transfer as well.

Considering preferential factors, the Aura has 20% deeper sinkage than average and 23% lower levels of bounce. The lower bounce was a bit of a dampener for sex performance.

Cooling Test

Cooling performance on the Polysleep Aura is good, but far from great. In our tests, I felt a slight to moderate level of heat retention around my body. While the foams used are of good quality, the overall design is pretty limited with respect to its cooling potential.

Baseline Temp.

82.8° F

Max Temp.

92.4° F

Ending Temp.

87.2° F

Unfortunately, we have no cooling cover / fibers, no convoluted foam, no cooling foams, no coils, and no phase change fabrics. The only cooling attribute to the foams is the open cell design, which is good, but based on my experience, it still just isn’t enough.

  • Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
  • Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes

When we look at our objective temperature data we can see the temperature decline from minute 0 to 1 was 2.5°, which is 2.06° F warmer than average.

The decline from the complete 0 to 5-minute measurement period was 5.2 degrees, which is 1.77° warmer than average.

Heat Dissipation Over Time

If you describe yourself as a “hot” or “warm” sleeper you may find the all-foam design of the Aura just doesn’t provide enough cooling.

Overall, when I consider the material design, objective data, and my subjective experience there is much to be desired in terms of cooling.

Sinkage Test

The Polysleep Aura has a very deep level of sinkage. In our tests, we measured a total pressure point sinkage depth of 2.60”. This is 0.42” more sinkage than the average of 2.18”.

Sinkage Depth

Sinkage Feel

Very Deep

The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

Polysleep Aura Sinkage Test
Polysleep Aura Sinkage Test

The Aura creates an exacting and dramatic contouring hug around the body. The feel is quite similar to many other modern memory foam mattresses we’ve tested.

The sinkage depth and hug create a fantastic level of pressure relief (which we discuss more below). My only concern is the depth of sinkage.

While many sleepers will love the high level of hug and contour created by the Aura, it can be a more polarizing feeling. You’ll want to be sure that your body enjoys the feel of a more dramatic foam hug and contour.

8.9

Motion Transfer Test

The Polysleep Aura has a moderate level of motion transfer. In our test, we measured a total acceleration range of 9.28 m/s². This is 1.18 m/s² more motion than the average of 8.10 m/s².

Max. Acceleration

3.64 m/s²

Min. Acceleration

-5.64 m/s²

Accel. Range

9.28 m/s²

Given the all-foam design, I was surprised to see motion exceed our “low” range. Typically, all foam mattresses, especially those that feel like memory foam, perform better. Even so, this isn’t a high level of motion by any standard.

The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.

In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we see the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.14 seconds. Motion rapidly declines immediately after 0.14 seconds and by 0.51 seconds we’ve returned to near-zero levels.

Polysleep Aura Motion Transfer Chart
Polysleep Aura Motion Transfer Chart

The mattresses with the lowest motion are able to see motion returned to near-zero energy levels by 0.3 seconds. The Aura isn’t quite at the level, but it’s extremely close. All that to say, I don’t expect the level of motion transfer will be problematic for most sleepers.

10

Response Test

The Polysleep Aura has an extremely fast material response. In our tests, we measured a mostly recovered material response time of 0.2 seconds and a fully recovered response time of 0.3 seconds.

Mostly Recovered

0.2 sec.

Complete Recovery

0.3 sec.

The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.

This is tied for 1st with a number of other mattresses as the fastest-responding mattress we’ve tested to date. The all poly foam design ensures that the mattress rebounds back to shape effectively instantly.

Bounce Test

The Polysleep Aura has a low level of bounce. In our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 7.37”. This is 2.16” less bounce than the average of 9.53”.

Ideally, I want to see 8-12” of total bounce. Bounce within this range creates enough pushback to improve ease of movement and sex, while not being so high as to create excess motion.

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.

At 7.37” the Aura is below my ideal threshold, but only slightly. The lower level of bounce and all-foam design create a more restrained type of ease of movement on the mattress.

Sleepers who have historically slept on coil-based mattresses may find the feel more jarring and disruptive. However, those who have slept on hybrids or other all-foam mattresses will likely not find it an issue.

9.8

Edge Support Test

The Polysleep Aura has excellent edge support for both sitting and lying. In our sitting edge support tests, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 3.5″. This is 0.68” less sitting sinkage than the average of 4.18”.

Max Sinkage

3.50″

Lying Support

Excellent

At 3.5” the Aura maintains a strong supportive edge even when weight is directly applied. While sitting directly on the edge of the mattress I felt fully supported. Edge support while lying is equally as impressive.

The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.

During our tests, I felt fully supported in all sleeping positions even when lying directly on the edge of the mattress.

The Aura uses a thick 8.5” edge perimeter foam. This is quite a bit thicker than we typically see. It’s creating fantastic support at the absolute edge for both sitting and lying.

The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.

Overall, this is an impressive level of edge support, especially for an all foam mattress.

9.5

Sex Test

The best mattresses for sex have high bounce, good edge support, quiet materials, and good pressure relief and cooling.

These 5 factors make up the NapLab sex performance score.

Sex FactorFactor WeightScoreRating
Bounce60%9.3Low
Edge Support20%9.8Excellent
Noise10%10Minimal
Pressure Relief5%9.5Excellent
Cooling5%9.0Very Good

For the Polysleep Aura, these individual factors generated a sex score of 9.5.

Being an all-foam mattress, the Aura has relatively low levels of bounce. In our formula, bounce alone is worth 60% of the score and a hugely important part of good sex performance.

Although it struggles with bounce, edge support is fantastic on the Aura with a score of 9.8.

Polysleep Aura Edge Support Sitting
Polysleep Aura Edge Support Sitting

Noise and pressure relief had favorable scores as well and cooling struggled a bit.

All things considered, this is a perfectly fine mattress for sex. It likely won’t make sex any better than it was, but depending on what your mattress is now, it also probably won’t make it any worse either.

9.5

Pressure Relief Test

The Polysleep Aura has excellent pressure relief. During our tests, I felt no significant level of pressure point build-up anywhere on my body.

Comfort Layer

4.5″

Support Layer

6.5″

The mattress uses a thick enough 11” total profile with a 2.5” comfort foam. While I’m not thrilled by the limited 2.5” comfort layer, it is notably aided by the transitional foam.

The 2.0” transitional foam does not appear to be at the same quality or comfort level as the top 2.5” comfort foam, but it still provides some level of comfort, while also acting as a transitional deep compression support layer.

Beyond that, I am pleased to see the zoned foam layers. These zoned foam layers help create better support, which has the additional benefit of better pressure relief.

9.7

Off-Gassing Test

Off-gassing on the Polysleep Aura mattress is strong initially out of the box. The odor lasted for 4 days before dissipating, which is about what the average length of time is among all mattresses tested to date.

Company

The company score takes a look at factors that may influence your experience with the mattress.

Factors include length of the trial period, warranty, shipping / return costs, and country of origin.

Company FactorFactor WeightScoreData

Warranty25%1010 years
Shipping25%10$0
Returns25%9.0$85
Country of Origin0%Canada

For Polysleep, these individual terms and conditions generated a company score of 9.5.

The company offers a 100-night trial period, which is 40% shorter than the 164-night average. It also comes with a 10-year warranty.

Shipping is free to your door, but if the mattress ends up not working out, returns are C$85.

This mattress is manufactured in and shipped from Canada. Currently, the Polysleep Aura is only available within Canada.

How firm is Polysleep Aura?

The Polysleep Aura has a firmness 5.5 out of 10 where 10 is the most firm. This gives the mattress a medium feel, suitable for a wide range of sleepers.

Firmness Chart 55

A firmness of this level would be just a touch softer than the medium-firm feel where many mattresses fall (6 out of 10 on the firmness scale).

Support & Sleeping Positions

The Polysleep Aura has excellent support. In our tests, I felt well-supported in all sleeping positions. The mattress uses an 11” total profile (average is 11.9”) and a 2.5” comfort layer (average is 4.1”).

While the foam layer thicknesses are a little less than we typically see, the foam quality, build quality, and overall design are all solid.

Polysleep Aura Relaxing 2
Polysleep Aura Relaxing 2

In addition, the zoned foam layers are particularly great to see. Zoned support helps to create a more neutral spinal alignment by creating greater support for the middle of the mattress.

My only concern is for heavier-weight sleepers. Generally, heavier bodies need a thicker comfort layer and a thicker overall profile.

As a result, sleepers over 250 pounds may find the support just isn’t sufficient. For all other sleepers, I expect the support will be more than adequate.

Materials

On a basic level, the Polysleep Aura has three layers that actually include five different types of foam. From the outside, the layers are listed below from top to bottom:

  • 2.5″ poly foam
  • 2.0″ poly foam
  • 6.5″ support foam
Polysleep Aura Material Layers
Polysleep Aura Material Layers

The second layer of 2.0″ poly foam varies depending on what part of the mattress you’re looking at, but the thickness stays the same.

With that in mind, let’s move forward.

The Cover

The cover of the Polysleep Aura is thin and breathable. It is made of 41% polyviscose, 58% polyester, and 1% spandex. This gives the mattress a bit of stretch and softness.

Polysleep Aura Cover Close

The Comfort Layer

The comfort layer on the Aura mattress is more complex on the inside than what the outside portrays.

The top layer is a hole-punched 2.5″ viscoelastic hybrid foam with a density of 3.0 PCF.

Note: PCF stands for “Pounds Per Cubic Foot”. It is a measure of how much foam is actually in any given foam layer. Higher PCF foams are generally more durable.

Viscoelastic foam performs much like traditional memory foam, so being a “hybrid foam” this top layer on the Aura has a balance of contour and good responsiveness as well.

Polysleep Aura Squeezing Top Layers
Polysleep Aura Squeezing Top Layers

The second layer depends on which part of the mattress you’re looking at.

At the head or foot of the mattress, we see a 2.0″ poly foam (white) with a density of 1.8 PCF.

But when we take a cut out of the midsection of the mattress, we see a 2.0″ poly foam (blue) with a slightly denser feel—density of 2.0 PCF.

Polysleep Aura Cutting Out Foam
Polysleep Aura Cutting Out Foam

The foam with the denser feel, located where your hips would be when lying down, does a better job of supporting the midsection and meeting the pressure relief needs.

The Support Layer

Regardless of where you measure, the support layer on the Aura is the same— a 6.5″ support layer with a density of 2.1 PCF. This is notably denser than most base foams, which typically are a 1.5-1.8 PCF.

Towards the middle portion of the mattress, the support foam has a convoluted structure to it, as shown in the image below.

Product Evolution

The Aura mattress was launched in April 2023 along with an update to the Polysleep Zephyr mattress. Since the Aura’s release, there have been no major design changes or updates.

As the mattress changes over time, we will circle back and update this section accordingly.
