Our Verdict

The Personal Comfort Rego mattress is an 11″ adjustable mattress that uses an app on your smartphone or a wireless remote control to easily adjust the firmness of the mattress at the touch of a button. The mattress is made of comfort foam and an inflatable air bladder, centrally located within the mattress core.

At its softest level (firmness rating of 5), the Personal Comfort Rego has a soft feel, 4 out of 10 on the firmness scale. At its firmest level (firmness rating 50), the Rego firmness is an 8 out of 10, with a firm feel.

We tested this mattress at a firmness level of 30, which gave the mattress a medium-firm feel. At this level, the mattress has deep sinkage and low levels of bounce.

In our performance tests, this mattress earned an overall score of 8.61, ranking the mattress in the top 50% of all mattresses tested to date.

The Personal Comfort Rego is $2,700 for a queen-sized mattress, which is 2% more expensive than the average adjustable mattress (a difference of $40). But when we compare the price to the average mattress across all mattress types, the Rego is 95% more than the average (a difference of $1,313).

You’re really paying for that adjustable design so you’ll want to make sure that’s a feature you definitely want and need before deciding on this mattress.

How is Personal Comfort Rego Different?

The Personal Comfort Rego is an 11″ adjustable mattress with an overall performance level that is slightly above the average level and a price that is also slightly more than average (a difference of just $40).

Advantages

Advantages of the Rego include better cooling performance, faster material response time, and excellent edge support when sitting or lying at or near the edge of the mattress.

Neutral Factors

This mattress has deep sinkage and low levels of bounce, but also these feel factors can vary based on what firmness you have the mattress set to. When set to a firmer feel, the sinkage is not quite as dramatic and bounce is slightly higher.

Personal Comfort Rego Relaxing
Personal Comfort Rego Relaxing

Disadvantages

Disadvantages to the Rego include higher levels of motion transfer, 17% more than average. Sex performance also struggles a bit, thanks in large part to the low bounce levels on this mattress.

The Rego takes 2X longer to off-gas than the average mattress and the trial is also shorter. At 120 nights, the Rego trial is roughly 2 months shorter than average (59 nights to be exact).

9.0

Cooling Test

The Personal Comfort Rego has excellent cooling. During our tests, I felt no significant level of heat retention on my body. The mattress does a good job at breathing well and avoiding excessive heat retention.

Baseline Temp.

77.0° F

Max. Temp.

90.2° F

Ending Temp.

82.5° F

The mattress benefits from the thin knit cover, which is highly breathable, allowing air to flow in and out. In addition, both foam comfort layers look and feel high quality.

  • Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
  • Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
  • Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes

Higher end foams do a better job at avoiding heat and also allowing for more airflow.

In our objective temperature tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 90.2° F. This is 0.4° more than the average of 89.8° F, based on all of our tests to date.

When we consider the combination of objective data, my subjective experiences, and an analysis of the materials, I’m confident in my view that cooling is excellent.

Sinkage Test

The Personal Comfort Rego has deep sinkage. During our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 2.45″. This is 0.29″ more sinkage than the average sinkage depth of 2.16″, based on all of our tests to date.

Sinkage Depth

2.45″

Sinkage Feel

Deep

I will note, being an adjustable mattress, the Personal Comfort Rego sinkage level will vary depending on which firmness you have it set on. Softer firmnesses allow for more sinkage than firmer levels.

In our tests, the exact sinkage ranged from 2.77″ (at the softest firmness) to 2.39″ (at the firmest setting).

Our primary sinkage test was done at a firmness rating of 30. We also tested sinkage on 5 other firmness ratings, which you can find below.

The mattress creates a dramatic body contouring hug. The Personal Comfort uses 2.0” of memory foam on top of the mattress and has a total 4.0” foam comfort layer.

This foam combination creates lots of sinkage, hug, contour, and pressure relief around the body. In addition, the thin cover allows the body to create a more direct and significant engagement with the foam layers below.

This is in contrast to mattresses that contain pillow tops, euro tops, and quilted covers, which typically restrain that type of dramatic body contour.

7.7

Motion Transfer Test

The Personal Comfort Rego has a moderate level of motion transfer. During our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 10.17 m/s². This is 16% more motion transfer than the average of 8.76 m/s².

Max. Acceleration

3.83 m/s²

Min. Acceleration

-6.34 m/s²

Accel. Range

10.17 m/s²

The Rego mattress has two contrasting motion transfer factors. On the one hand, the high quality foams, memory foam, and thin cover all help reduce motion. In addition, the cover has a looser fit, which is helping to manage motion.

The looser cover simply means there is more give in the cover, so it doesn’t so dramatically tug back and forth during the night. However, the adjustable air bladder isn’t doing the mattress any favors for motion.

The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.

Air support systems typically generate higher than average motion, and that’s exactly what we measured in our tests. In a case like that Rego, where we only have 4.0″ of foam and only 2.0″ of memory foam, we see that adjustable air bladder having an outsized impact on motion transfer.

In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.22 seconds.

Personal Comfort Rego Motion Transfer Chart
Personal Comfort Rego Motion Transfer Chart

Motion drops off considerably thereafter and by 0.65 seconds we’ve returned to near zero levels of energy.

While we would have liked to have seen a little less motion transfer, this isn’t an excessive level. I don’t expect this level of motion will bother most sleepers.

9.9

Response Test

The Personal Comfort Rego has an extremely fast mostly recovered response time and a very fast fully recovered response time.

Mostly Recovered

0.2 sec.

Fully Recovered

0.4 sec.

In our mostly recovered test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.2 seconds, which is 0.23 seconds faster than the average of 0.43 seconds, based on all of our tests to date.

In our fully recovered responsiveness test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.4 seconds, which is 0.57 seconds faster than the average of 0.97 seconds.

The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.

The fastest responsiveness speeds we’ve measured to date are 0.2 seconds to mostly recover and 0.3 seconds to fully recover. As such, the Rego mattress misses those marks only slightly.

Overall, I’m really pleased with these results. The foams create ample pressure relief, hug, contour, and they are also highly responsive. That’s a hard combination to deliver and in my view it speaks to the high quality of the foams.

Bounce Test

The Personal Comfort Rego has a low level of bounce. During our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 7.36″. This is 1.91″ less bounce than the average of 9.27″, based on all of our tests to date.

Max. Depth

5.42″

Max. Rebound

1.94″

Total Bounce

The mattress is equipped with a 4.0” foam comfort layer, including 2.0” of memory foam on top of the mattress. Those foams, but especially the topmost memory foam, dramatically reduce bounce on the mattress.

Max. Bounce Height

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.

The lower bounce makes it more difficult to move around on the mattress and negatively impacts sex performance.

However, that lower bounce is also the reason for the lower than average motion transfer. So there are pros and cons to consider with respect to bounce height.

9.2

Edge Support Test

The Personal Comfort Rego has excellent sitting edge support and excellent lying edge support.

Max. Sinkage

3.50″

Lying Support

Excellent

In our sitting edge support test, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 3.50″. This is 0.54″ less sitting sinkage than the average of 4.04″, based on all of our tests to date.

The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.

Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

Even with my full weight sitting on a single spot, the mattress maintained its shape, did not collapse under the weight, and remained fully supportive.

Edge support while lying was equally as impressive. While lying directly on the edge of the mattress, I felt that the support was excellent in all sleeping positions.

The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.

The mattress is equipped with an edge support foam that runs along the entire perimeter of the mattress. This foam is 3.5” wide and 7.0” tall.

It serves to both contain the adjustable air bladder and also provide improved edge support for both sitting and lying. Overall, I’m pleased with the level of edge support and don’t expect it will be an issue for most sleepers.

7.9

Sex Test

The Personal Comfort Rego has fair sex performance. On the positive side, noise is minimal and both pressure relief and cooling are excellent. Edge support is also excellent, measuring just 3.50” of sitting sinkage.

Personal Comfort Rego Edge Sitting
Personal Comfort Rego Edge Sitting

A robust edge support extends the sexable surface area on the mattress. On the negative side of things, we measured just 7.36” of bounce.

Sex FactorFactor WeightScoreRating
Bounce65%7.1Moderate
Edge Support20%9.4Excellent
Noise5%10Minimal
Pressure Relief5%9.0Excellent
Cooling5%9.0Excellent

This is notably lower than average and the single greatest factor that’s decreasing sex performance on the mattress.

Mattresses with less bounce are worse for sex, making amorous activities more difficult, strenuous, and tiring.

9.0

Pressure Relief Test

The Personal Comfort Rego has an excellent level of pressure relief. During our tests, I felt no significant pressure points on my body.

Comfort Layer

4.0″

Support Layer

7.0″

The mattress is comfortable, creating a dramatic body contouring hug. The mattress is equipped with 4.0″ of comfort material, including 2.0” of memory foam and a 2.0” poly foam layer.

The Personal Comfort Rego has 0.14″ less comfort material than the average comfort layer thickness of 4.14″, based on all of our tests to date.

Personal Comfort Rego Pressure Map Stomach

Despite the slightly thinner than average comfort layer, the Rego’s pressure relief didn’t disappoint. Both foam comfort layers look and feel high quality, both on the body and in hand.

When you couple these high performance foams with an adjustable air bladder, it enables sleepers to create a highly targeted and personalized level of support and comfort, creating fantastic pressure relief.

In our pressure maps, we measured a max PSI of 0.87. A 2.0 PSI is a high pressure point and the Rego was nowhere near that level.

When I consider our objective pressure mapping tests, material thickness, material quality, and my subjective experience on the mattress, I’m confident most sleepers will find the pressure relief to be excellent.

6.1

Off-Gassing Test

The Personal Comfort Rego had a strong smell upon the initial unboxing. The mattress smelled for 14 days. This is 7.5 days more than the average of 6.5 days. The smell was a pretty typical memory foam type smell.

How firm is Personal Comfort Rego?

The Personal Comfort Rego is an adjustable mattress, spanning in firmness from 4 out of 10 to 8 out of 10. This gives the mattress a soft, medium, medium-firm, slightly firm, or firm feel.

Adjustable Firmness Range 4 8

The table below documents which firmness rating (controlled by remote) is associated with which firmness.

Firmness RatingMattress FeelOur Assessment (Firmness)
5Soft4
10Soft4.5
20Medium5
30Medium-Firm6
40Slightly Firm7
50Firm8

I will note, at its softest, a firmness rating of 5, it really feels like the mattress loses support. There is a ton of sinkage, which does create a softer feel, but at the expense of support. It’s hard to imagine that any sleeper over 150 pounds will find this firmness rating to be supportive enough.

Support & Sleeping Positions

Support on the Personal Comfort Rego is excellent. During our tests, I felt well supported in all sleeping positions.

Personal Comfort Rego Sinkage
Personal Comfort Rego Sinkage

The mattress is equipped with a 7.0″ support layer consisting of a 6.0” adjustable air bladder and 1.0” support foam layer. This is 0.88″ thinner than the average support layer thickness of 7.88″, based on all of our tests to date.

Despite the thinner than average support layer, the Rego’s support performance was fantastic. Certainly what makes the support so impressive is the adjustability.

The vast majority of support on the mattress is created by the 6.0” adjustable air bladder. Being able to adjust the firmness to your preferred level of firmness, pushback, sinkage, and comfort is incredibly valuable.

The adjustability ensures that the widest range of sleeper preferences can find a firmness rating that works well for their body.

Check out the table below to see the sleeper weights and sleeping positions that would be best suited for this mattress.

Based on all of my tests to date, an analysis of the materials, and my subjective experiences, I’m confident most sleepers will find support on the Personal Comfort Rego is excellent.

Design

The Personal Comfort Rego is an 11″ adjustable mattress that comes in six firmness options—5, 10, 20, 30, 40, or 50. These different numbers generate a range of feels including Soft, Medium, Medium-Firm, Slightly Firm, and Firm.

How Does It Work?

The firmness is changed by the touch of a button on a wireless remote control or by using their free app. Simply press the up arrow or down arrow to adjust the firmness.

You can also have presets for each side of the mattress, as indicated by the “1” and “2” within the heart icons. These presets can be a great option for couples with consistent sleeping preferences.

Once you press a button on the remote, a signal is sent to an air controller on the floor. This black box then sends air through a series of tubes, leading into the body of the mattress. The adjustment of air into the mattress core creates that firmer or softer feel.

Materials

The Personal Comfort Rego is 11″ thick and contains a combination of foams and a central air bladder system. From top to bottom, here is a full list of the materials used in this mattress:

These two layers work together to provide comfort and pressure relief when lying on the mattress.

The Support Layer

The support layer is primarily a 6.0″ adjustable air bladder with a foam perimeter. The air bladder is adjustable, as plastic tubes bring air in or take it away to adjust the mattress’s firmness.

Perimeter foams provide structure for the mattress as well as support when sitting or lying at or near the edge of the mattress.

Below the air bag is a 1.0″ high density support foam layer. This base layer provides some pushback to the air bag as firmness is adjusted.

Product Evolution

Personal Comfort has been around since 2012, with a long-standing history of adjustable mattress manufacturing.

In 2020, the brand announced the launch of the smart bed series, starting with the Rejuvenation collection. This collection included the following smart beds—the Rego (tested here), the Rejuvenate, and the Legacy.

Since its release in 2020 and present-day, we haven’t noticed any notable changes to design or materials.

That said, the Legacy models are in the process of being discontinued.

The iSense Premier is another strong contender for best adjustable mattress. This hybrid uses a pocketed coil support base and has a layer of adjustable air cylinders directly above the coils. The Spindle mattress is the only one in this list that is not remote controlled. It is a latex mattress with three layers, which have a distinctly different feel.
