Best For

  • Sleepers looking for a queen mattress under $400
  • Decent pressure relief, given the low price
  • Materials off-gas faster than average

Considerations

  • High levels of motion transfer
  • Worse edge support both when sitting and lying at or near the edge
  • Lower sex score may be less than ideal for couples

Our Verdict

The Novilla Bliss is an 11.5″ memory foam mattress designed for sleepers on a budget. It has a thin cover with gel memory foam, a transitional poly foam and consulted support foam.

This mattress has very deep sinkage and very low levels of bounce. It has a more traditional memory foam feel and a high degree of engagement into the materials.

It is available in a single firmness, 6 out of 10, which gives the mattress a medium-firm feel.

In our performance tests, the Novilla Bliss scored a 7.60 overall, ranking it well below the average mattress score of 8.57 (based 250+ mattresses tested to date). It struggles in numerous testing categories, most notably for high levels of motion transfer and poor edge support.

The trade-off for lower performance is that this mattress is extremely budget-friendly, offering a queen mattress for only $329. This price is 70% less than the average memory foam mattress for a savings of $758, making it a potentially appealing option for sleepers on a tight budget.

How is Novilla Bliss Different?

The Novilla Bliss is an 11.5″ memory foam mattress with a lower overall performance, but also a lower price tag than average—70% less than the average memory foam mattress for a savings of $758.

Advantages

Advantages of the Novilla Bliss include a thicker-than-average comfort layer (5.0″ instead of the 4.0″ average), although I have to add, that the thicker material did not provide any better pressure relief.

It also has a shorter-than-average off-gassing period, 4 days compared to the 7-day average.

Neutral Factors

This mattress has very deep levels of sinkage and very low levels of bounce. If you’re looking for a mattress that is engaging with a restrained level of hug, the Novilla may be a good option to consider.

Disadvantages

Although the price tag is low, it does come with a number of disadvantages worth considering. This mattress struggles with worse cooling performance and heat retention problems as well as higher levels of motion transfer.

Edge support struggles both with sitting and lying, which also negatively impacts sex performance (especially when paired with low levels of bounce like we see here with the Novilla).

Mattress trial and warranty are shorter than average as well.

Cooling Test

The Novilla Bliss has a good level of cooling performance. During our tests, I only felt a slight level of heat retention around my body.

Baseline Temp.

75.2° F

Max Temp.

89.1° F

Ending Temp.

80.9° F

Despite the all-foam design and memory foam top comfort layer, the mattress seems to do a good job of avoiding heat retention and breathing well. Notably, the mattress has a convoluted poly foam layer within the core.

Convoluted foams are cut with air channels, which help increase breathability and can soften the mattress. The combination of gel memory foam, air channels, and thin cover all help to keep the temperature to reasonable levels.

Max Temp.

Ending Temp

Novilla Bliss After Cooling Test

  • Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
  • Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
  • Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes

In our objective temperature tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 89.1° F, which is 0.6° cooler than the average of 89.7°.

After getting off the mattress the temperature declined by 6.0° from minutes 0 to 1, which is 1.3° cooler than the average 0 to 1 decline of 4.7°.

Heat Dissipation Over Time

Novilla Bliss Heat Dissipation Chart
Novilla Bliss Heat Dissipation Chart

When we consider the complete picture of objective data, subjective experience, and material analysis, I’m confident most sleepers will find cooling performance to be good.

Sinkage Test

The Novilla Bliss has a very deep level of sinkage. During our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 2.65”. This is 0.51” deeper sinkage than the average of 2.14”, based on all of our tests to date.

Sinkage Depth

2.65″

Sinkage Feel

Very Deep

The Novilla Bliss has a more traditional memory foam feel and creates a dramatic body contouring hug. This feel, in combination with the deeper sinkage and slower material response, makes the mattress more difficult to move around on.

The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

Novilla Bliss Sinkage Test
Novilla Bliss Sinkage Test

Once the mattress forms to the shape of your body it wants to cradle and keep you in that position. For some sleepers this can feel somewhat like you are “trapped” or “stuck” and unable to move around as easily.

However, some sleepers do like this feel, so it’s more of a personal preference. Last but not least, heavier parts of my body definitely feel like they are sinking deeper into the mattress, especially the midsection, butt, and hips.

7.3

Motion Transfer Test

The Novilla Bliss has a moderate level of motion transfer. During our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 10.96 m/s². This is 25% more motion transfer than the average of 8.79 m/s².

Max. Acceleration

5.01 m/s²

Min. Acceleration

-5.95 m/s²

Accel. Range

10.96 m/s²

The all-foam design and memory foam on top both help to keep motion at lower levels. However, the convoluted foam is likely causing some of the higher motion.

Convoluted foams allow for deeper and more immediate sinkage. This can result in something of an abrupt “drop” effect and create more motion.

The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.

In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion from 0 to 0.15 seconds. Motion drops immediately thereafter and by 0.44 seconds we’ve returned to near-zero levels of energy.

Novilla Bliss Motion Transfer Chart
Novilla Bliss Motion Transfer Chart

While the motion peak is higher than ideal, the motion duration is very well restrained. Even the best mattresses take 0.3 seconds to return to near-zero energy levels.

The Novilla Bliss is only slightly worse than that duration at 0.44 seconds. Overall, I don’t expect motion transfer will be an issue for most sleepers.

8.0

Response Test

The Novilla Bliss has a responsiveness speed that is a mixed bag. The mostly recovered time is fast, but the time to fully recover is slow.

Mostly Recovered

0.4 sec.

Complete Recovery

1.6 sec.

During our mostly recovered test, we measured 0.4 seconds for the mattress to rebound back to shape. This is exactly the same as the average time to mostly recover, based on all of our tests to date.

During our fully recovered test, we measured 1.6 seconds for the mattress to recover back to shape. This is 0.7 seconds slower than the average fully recovered time of 0.9 seconds.

The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.

The poly foam layers within the mattress all rebound to shape quickly. However, the memory foam layer takes quite a long time to fully return to its original shape.

A 1.6-second recovery isn’t terrible, as some traditional memory foam can take 3-5 seconds or longer to recover.

However, 1.6 seconds is nowhere near fast either. Many sleepers will find that the slower responsiveness causes the mattress to feel more difficult to move around on.

Bounce Test

The Novilla Bliss has a very low level of bounce. During our test, we measured a total bounce range of 4.51”. This is 5.09” less bounce than the average of 9.60”, based on all of our tests to date.

Max. Depth

The combination of all-foam design, memory foam comfort layer, and convoluted foam are all working together to reduce bounce.

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.

The lower bounce definitely helps motion transfer, however, it does no favors for ease of movement and sex performance. Bounce at this level is well below what we want to see.

The lower bounce for many can become detrimental, as it makes it harder to move around on the mattress, get in and out of bed, and also greatly negatively impacts sex.

6.0

Edge Support Test

The Novilla Bliss has mediocre sitting edge support and poor lying edge support. During our sitting edge support tests, we measured 5.5” of sitting sinkage compression.

Max Sinkage

5.50″

Lying Support

Poor

This is 1.48” more sitting sinkage than the average of 4.02”, based on all of our tests to date.

The materials aren’t totally collapsing, but we still have a significant compression while seated at the edge.

The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.

Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

Lying edge support was unfortunately worse. While lying directly on the edge of the mattress I did not feel well supported.

The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.

The problem is the memory foam top layer conforms and contours to the body, which is great while you’re in the middle of the mattress.

However, with the mattress conforming to the body at the edge it creates a weakening of the support at the edge, causing the body to no longer feel supported.

Lastly, there is no edge support foam or other edge support features that could help to improve edge support performance. Overall, edge support leaves much to be desired and feels like a real weak spot on the mattress.

6.1

Sex Test

The Novilla Bliss has a mediocre level of sex performance. On the positive side of things, noise is minimal and both pressure relief and cooling are good.

Sex FactorFactor WeightScoreRating
Bounce65%5.3Very Low
Edge Support20%6.9Mediocre
Noise5%10Minimal
Pressure Relief5%8.0Good
Cooling5%8.0Good

However, the edge support is mediocre with 5.5” of sitting sinkage compression. This is a significant dip in the edge while you’re sitting and will negatively impact amorous activities on or near the edge.

Lastly, we have a very low level of bounce at 4.51”. This is significantly below the average of 9.60” of bounce. When it comes to sex performance, nothing is more important than high bounce.

Novilla Bliss Edge Sitting
Novilla Bliss Edge Sitting

Suffice to say, Novilla’s Bliss is nowhere near the “high” bounce threshold and it is the single biggest factor that is negatively impacting the dance without pants.

8.0

Pressure Relief Test

The Novilla Bliss has a good level of pressure relief, but it doesn’t quite rise to the “excellent” or “outstanding” level of performance. During our tests, I did not feel any significant level of pressure points on my body.

Comfort Layer

5.0″

Support Layer

6.5″

Overall, I found the mattress comfortable. The mattress uses a 5.0” comfort layer. This is thicker than the average 4.0” comfort layer, based on all of our tests.

The topmost 3.0” layer is a gel memory foam that sits atop a 2.0” poly foam layer. While the 2.0” poly foam is classified as a comfort foam, in terms of quality it’s definitely not at the same level as the topmost 3.0” gel memory foam layer.

Novilla Bliss Side Sleeping
Novilla Bliss Side Sleeping

Even so, at this price point it’s hard to complain too much.

My only real concern is for longevity. The foam quality for mattresses at this price point is simply not the absolute best.

As a result, pressure relief is likely to suffer more as the mattress ages. All that said, at least as a brand-new mattress pressure relief is solid.

How firm is Novilla Bliss?

The Novilla Bliss is available in a single firmness with a medium-firm feel, a 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale.

Firmness Chart 6

Support & Sleeping Positions

The Novilla Bliss has a good level of support. During our tests, I felt well supported in all sleeping positions. The mattress is equipped with a 6.5” support layer, split into a 2.5” convoluted support foam and another 4.0” support foam on the base.

With just 6.5” of support materials this is notably thinner than the average 7.9” support layer thickness, based on all of our tests to date.

Check out the table below to see the sleeper weights and sleeping positions that would be best suited for this mattress.

Sleeper WeightStomach SleepersSide SleepersBack Sleepers
Under 150 lbs.YesYesYes
150-250 lbs.YesYesYes
250-300 lbs.YesYesYes

As with the comfort foams, the support foams are a fair quality, but also far from the best we’ve tested. While the mattress is newer I expect support will be notably better.

However, I do worry about the longevity of a mattress like the Bliss. As the mattress ages support is likely to become more of an issue, especially for heavier weighted sleepers.
