June 2024 Update – Crafted Sleep appears to be discontinued / out of business. The company’s website is no longer live. Some models are still being sold on Wayfair for the time being.

Best For
- Very fast response time
- Excellent pressure relief
- Excellent edge support, sitting or lying down
Considerations
- Extremely high levels of motion transfer may be extremely disruptive to sensitive sleepers
Our Verdict
The Crafted Sleep 1-Sided mattress is a hybrid blend of foam and support coils. It has a 5.0″ comfort layer and 14″ total mattress height. This gives the Crafted Sleep a luxurious-looking loft, but achieves it with a lower price tag.
During our performance tests, this mattress had excellent performance in many areas, with the only notable struggle being high levels of motion transfer.

How is the Crafted Sleep Hybrid Different?
The Crafted Sleep 1-Sided hybrid has a few advantages over other competitive mattresses. The two biggest advantages include:
#1. Budget Friendly
Unlike the Crafted Sleep 2-Sided Hybrid, the 1-Sided hybrid saves on costs by only having a sleeping surface on one side of the mattress. It offers a 5.0″ comfort layer which is good for a wide range of sleepers.

#2. High Profile
Despite the low cost, this mattress has a 14″ high profile, which is quite a bit thicker than other mattresses at this price point. If you’re looking for a good value without sacrificing the luxury, lofted aesthetic, this mattress could be a great option.
Cooling Test
Cooling performance on the Crafted Sleep 1-Sided Hybrid was good, but not amazing. In our tests, I noted a slight level of heat retention around my body.
Baseline Temp.
73.4° F
Max Temp.
85.5° F
Ending Temp.
77.4° F
The heat was mostly isolated to my upper body. It was nothing dramatic enough to call it “hot”, but it wasn’t nothing either. For most sleepers, I don’t expect this level of heat retention to be problematic.
Max Temp.

Ending Temp

- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
However, for sleepers who describe themselves as a “hot sleeper”, you may find more issues. The Crafted Sleep design is straightforward, with the 8.0” pocketed coil base creating plenty of airflow.
Even so, the 5.0” of comfort foam up top is a significant barrier to fully cool.
Our objective data recorded a max surface level temperature of 85.5° F. While we did experience a noted level of heat retention, the heat does release fairly quickly.
Heat Dissipation Over Time

Our heat dissipation chart shows that by minute 3 the vast majority of released heat has fully dispersed.
Sinkage Test
The Crafted Sleep 1-Sided Hybrid has a moderate level of sinkage. In our tests, we measured 2.14” of pressure point sinkage. This is 0.09” less sinkage than the average of 2.23” (based on all of our tests to date).
The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

The mattress creates a high level of body contouring. The 5.0” of comfort foam has a deeper and more pronounced hug, especially on the heavier portions of the body (midsection, butt, hips, etc.).
If you like a mattress that creates that exacting supportive contour to your specific shape then you’ll like this feel.
Motion Transfer Test
Motion transfer on the Crafted Sleep 1-Sided Hybrid is extremely high. In our tests, we measured 17.08 m/s² of acceleration range.
This is more than double the average of 7.52 m/s². There is just no sugarcoating the motion transfer. It is extremely high. It is the 3rd highest motion transfer on any mattress we have tested to date.
The level of motion transfer is documented in the video below.
For couples who are easily disturbed by motion during the night this is not a great mattress choice for you. The coil unit here just doesn’t isolate motion in the way that we typically see from other hybrid mattresses.
Max. Acceleration
7.21 m/s²
Min. Acceleration
-9.87 m/s²
Accel. Range
17.08 m/s²
Our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, shows the highest levels of motion from 0 to 0.14 seconds. Motion drops off thereafter but still remains moderately high until 0.64 seconds. By 1.00 seconds the energy returns to near zero levels.

No matter what way you slice the data, it’s just not a pretty picture. Mattresses with the lowest level of motion transfer are able to disperse energy within 0.3 seconds. The Crafted Sleep mattress has both high motion peaks and a long motion duration.
Response Test
Response time on the Crafted Sleep 1-Sided Hybrid is very fast. In our tests, we measured a mostly recovered response time of 0.2 seconds and a fully recovered response time of 0.8 seconds.
Mostly Recovered
0.2 sec.
Complete Recovery
0.8 sec.
When it comes to response time, faster is always better. I was extremely pleased by the 0.2 seconds “mostly recovered” time (which was notably better than the average response time of 0.47 seconds).
The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.
While the fully recovered response time was notably worse at 0.8 seconds, it was still better than the fully recovered average response time of 0.90 seconds. The 2.0” memory foam layer is the slowest responding foam within the 5.0” foam comfort layer.
This layer takes a moment to rebound back to shape, while the other 3.0” return to their original shape quite quickly. Overall, great performance for responsiveness.
Bounce Test
The Crafted Sleep mattress has a high level of bounce. In our tests, we measured 10.24” of total bounce height. This is 0.47” more bounce than the average of 9.77”.
Max. Depth
4.88″
Max. Rebound
5.36″
Total Bounce
10.24″
Higher levels of bounce are beneficial for ease of movement and sex, but too much bounce can be problematic. In general, I like to see 8-12” of total bounce.
Max. Sinkage Depth

Max Bounce Height

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.
It’s a good middle area where you can experience the benefits, without creating new issues. At 10.24” of bounce the Crafted Sleep is right in the sweet spot. I don’t foresee bounce being an issue for most sleepers.
Edge Support Test
The Crafted Sleep 1-Sided Hybrid has excellent edge support. In our sitting edge support tests, we measured 3.75” of sitting sinkage compression. This is notably better than the average of 4.44” of sitting sinkage compression.
Max Sinkage
3.75″
Lying Support
Excellent
In general, I like to see edge sinkage of 4.0” of less. With a sitting sinkage of 3.75” the Crafted Sleep exceeds that mark. Even when sitting directly on the edge the mattress does a nice job of creating sufficient support and pushback.
The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

Lying edge support was equally as good. When lying directly on the edge of the mattress I felt well-supported in all sleeping positions.
The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.

Sex Test
Our sex rating formula looks at 5 different factors weighted based on their importance.

All factors are not equal in terms of significance, but each plays an important role.
Three of the most important factors are listed below with the associated testing scores:
Sex Bounce
10
Edge Support
9.6
Noise
9.0
In addition to the factors above, there are two other we consider as well, including pressure relief and cooling.
Here’s a look at the breakdown of how these 3 factors rank within the full formula:

We use the scores from all factors, plugged into the formula above, to derive a sex score for each mattress.
Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
---|---|---|---|
Bounce | 65% | 8.9 | High |
Edge Support | 20% | 9.1 | Excellent |
Noise | 5% | 8.0 | Moderate |
Pressure Relief | 5% | 9.0 | Excellent |
Cooling | 5% | 8.0 | Good |
This is a solid score and when we break down the factors, we see why it scores so highly. The 1-Sided hybrid offers very high bounce and good edge support. These two factos alone make up 80% of the score.
Overall, it’s got good sex performance, as most any hybrid is going to have.
Pressure Relief Test
Pressure relief on the Crafted Sleep 1-sided Hybrid was excellent. In our tests, I felt ample pressure relief in all sleeping positions. I felt no building pressure points. The mattress uses a thick 5.0” comfort layer.
With this much foam there is plenty of room for immediate softness, body contouring, and transitional support.
Comfort Layer
5.0″
Support Layer
9.0″
The Crafted Sleep Hybrid did a nice job at allowing for adequate sinkage of both light and heavier parts of my body. The mattress creates a more significant level of body contouring.
With a 2.0” memory foam layer at the top it has an exacting contour around the unique shape of each sleeper. Overall, I’m pleased with the level of pressure relief provided by the mattress.
Off-Gassing Test
Off-gassing of the Crafted Sleep 1-Sided hybrid is strong right out of the box. The smell took 8 full days to dissipate, which is longer than the average off-gassing period.
Initial Smell Strength
Strong
Off-Gassing Period
8 days
To speed up off-gassing place your mattress in a well-ventilated room and leave off any bedding for the first couple of days.

How firm is the Crafted Sleep 1-Sided Hybrid?
This mattress is available in a single firmness that they call “medium”. On our scale, it feels like a 5 out of 10, where 10 is the most firm.

Support & Sleeping Positions
The Crafted Sleep 1-Sided Hybrid has excellent support. In our tests, I felt fully supported in all sleeping positions.
While thicker mattresses don’t necessarily mean better support, as a general rule, it’s true more often than not. With 14” of foam and coils the mattress has sufficient material layers to create plenty of comfort and pressure relief, while also supporting sleepers with a robust coil unit.
Sleeper Weight | Stomach Sleepers | Side Sleepers | Back Sleepers |
---|---|---|---|
Under 150 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
150-250 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
250-300 lbs. | Maybe | Maybe | Maybe |
My only concern is for heavier weighted sleepers. The mattress has a more dramatic contour around the body and deeper sinkage for heavier parts of the body.
These attributes could cause some heavier sleepers to feel insufficiently supported. For all other body types, I am confident that the mattress will create full support for all sleeping positions.
Design
The Crafted Sleep 1-Sided mattress is a hybrid that uses foam and coils. It has a thicker profile height, but also a lower sticker price. This hits a sweet spot that can be hard to find for some sleepers, depending on personal preferences.

Materials
From cover to base, there are 5 layers on the Crafted Sleep 1-Sided hybrid mattress.
The list below details the thickness and material in each layer starting at the top:
- 1.0” quilted cover
- 2.0” memory foam
- 2.0” poly foam
- 8.0” pocketed coils
- 1.0” support foam
I will make a note here that our mattress was closer to 13” with the 2.0” memory foam layer being more like 1.5”, same with the 2.0” poly foam layer, it was also more like 1.5”.
The manufacturer’s website claims that this mattress is 14″, but that’s not exactly what we documented with the mattress we tested in-house.

The Cover
The Crafted Sleep hybrid has a stretchy knit cover with a thin layer of foam quilted into the design of the cover. This helps provide the mattress with a plush feel.

Aesthetically, the cover is light gray with darker gray used at the edges. The cover does not zip off and there are no carrying handles on the side, features that are sometimes nice additions to a mattress.
The Comfort Layer
The comfort layer consists of two layers of foam—equal size slabs of memory foam and poly foam. Combining these two different types of foam gives the mattress a more balanced feel and also helps transition sleeper weight into the support coils below.

The Support Layer
Below the foam is the support layer, a 9″ total thickness comprised of 8.0″ high pocketed coils and 1.0″ high-density support foam at the base.

Product Evolution
The Crafted Sleep 1-Sided Hybrid mattress launched in 2022. Since its introduction, there have been no major design changes or material updates to note.
As the mattress ages, we will update this section as needed.

For Motion Transfer

Bear Hybrid
6.58 Max Motion Transfer
The Bear Hybrid mattress also has a 5.0″ comfort layer and a high profile (13″ height). Despite the similarities in comfort materials, the Bear Hybrid does a much better job of managing motion transfer.
For Lower Profile

Zoma Hybrid
8.81 Overall Score
The Zoma Hybrid has only a 12″ profile height (with 3.0″ layer of comfort foam), but this mattress has excellent performance. For a lower-profile look, slightly less bounce, very low motion transfer, and slightly slower response time, and deeper sinkage, check out the Zoma.
For Firmer Feel

Helix Midnight
6 out of 10 Firmness
The Helix Midnight is another hybrid option with a 12″ profile height and 3.0″ comfort layer. hybrid. It also has a slightly firmer feel of 6 out of 10. Compared to the Crafted Sleep, the Helix has comparable bounce, response, and sinkage, and improved levels of low motion transfer.

The 1-Sided Crafted Sleep Hybrid cannot be flipped. As the name suggests, the 2-Sided Hybrid can be flipped. It’s available with identical or different firmnesses on each side.
In most cases, it is best to give a new mattress 24-48 hours to fully expand and acclimate to the area before sleeping on it. This also gives time for the strongest off-gassing odors to dissipate. Crafted Sleep’s mattresses tend to take a little longer than many other brands in terms of total recovery time out of the box.
