Our Verdict
The Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex is a 13″ memory foam mattress made of copper memory foam, traditional memory foam, transitional poly foam, and a support foam base. It also has a plush, 2.0″ quilted cover.
This mattress has moderate levels of sinkage and very low levels of bounce. It has a balanced degree of contour and a low bounce giving it a restrained feel.
The CopperFlex is available in a single firmness, 6 out of 10, with a medium-firm feel.
In our performance tests, the CopperFlex mattress earned an overall score of 8.33. This ranks the mattress in the bottom 30% of all mattresses tested to date, but where it shines is the below price tag.
This mattress is under $500 for a queen-sized mattress, making it 57% less expensive than the average memory foam mattress (a savings of over $650). While the CopperFlex is far from perfect, it is without question among the best performers we’ve tested to date at this price point.

How is Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex Different?
The Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex is a memory foam mattress with an overall performance that is slightly below average, but also a price tag that is significantly less than average—57% less expensive than the average memory foam mattress for a savings of $666 on a queen mattress.
Advantages
The biggest advantage of the CopperFlex mattress has got to be the price. Other performance categories hang right around average with the exception of pressure relief, which is better than average. This mattress has a 7.0″ comfort layer, nearly 3.0″ thicker than average.
Neutral Factors
The CopperFlex mattress has a moderate level of sinkage and very low levels of bounce. These are considered neutral factors since depending on what you’re looking for, you may like or dislike the feel of the CopperFlex.
Disadvantages
Disadvantages include a slightly slower material response time and a lower sex performance score. A low level of bounce is the real killer for sex performance on this mattress, but given the inherent properties of an all-foam memory foam mattress, it’s not hugely surprising either.

Cooling Test
The Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex has good cooling, though it did not rise to excellent or outstanding levels. During our tests, I felt a slight level of heat retention around my body. However, it’s nothing I would describe as “hot”.
Baseline Temp.
76.9° F
Max Temp.
90.3° F
Ending Temp.
81.1° F
Overall, the mattress did a good job of remaining cool. It was only after 10 minutes of lying in the same position that I started to feel a slightly warm feeling. My subjective experiences matched what we objectively measured on the mattress.
Max Temp.

Ending Temp

- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
In our objective temperature tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 90.3° F. This is 0.6° more than the average of 89.7° F, based on all of our tests to date.
After getting off the mattress the temperature declined by 5.6°, which is 0.8° cooler than the average 0 to 1 minute heat dissipation of 4.8°.
Heat Dissipation Over Time

When we consider the combination of objective data, my subjective experiences, and an analysis of the materials, I’m confident in my view that cooling is good.
Sinkage Test
The Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex has moderate sinkage. During our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 2.07″. This is 0.08″ less sinkage than the average sinkage depth of 2.15″, based on all of our tests to date.
Sinkage Depth
2.07″
Sinkage Feel
Moderate
The mattress creates a dramatic body-contouring hug. The CopperFlex is an all-foam mattress built with 7.0” of comfort material. All of this comfort foam forms to the exact shape of your body, creating a significant and dramatic hug.
The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

The mattress uses 6 different foam layers that create excellent transitional support, from the softer more conforming foams nearer to the top of the mattress, to firmer and more supportive foams as you get closer to the bottom of the mattress.
For those who love the way foam feels on the body the CopperFlex can be a solid pick.
Motion Transfer Test
The Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex has a low level of motion transfer. During our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 8.79 m/s². This is 1% more motion transfer than the average of 8.74 m/s².
Max. Acceleration
3.92 m/s²
Min. Acceleration
-4.87 m/s²
Accel. Range
8.79 m/s²
Certainly, the biggest factor helping keep motion lower is the all-foam design. Without a layer of coils, bounce isn’t as high, which keeps motion lower.
In addition, the CopperFlex uses 3.5” of memory foam within the comfort layer, which further helps to reduce bounce compared to more highly responsive poly foams.
The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.
In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.14 seconds.
Immediately thereafter motion declines rapidly and by 0.51 seconds we’ve returned to near-zero levels of energy.

Overall, I’m pleased with both the motion intensity and motion duration. I do not expect motion transfer to be a problem for most sleepers.
Response Test
The Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex is a mixed bag for material responsiveness, with a fast mostly recovered response time and a moderate fully recovered response time.
Mostly Recovered
0.4 sec.
Complete Recovery
1.2 sec.
In our mostly recovered test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.4 seconds, which is 0.02 seconds faster than the average of 0.42 seconds, based on all of our tests to date.
In our fully recovered responsiveness test, we measured a recovery speed of 1.2 seconds, which is 0.24 seconds slower than the average of 0.96 seconds.

The CopperFlex uses different types of foams within the mattress, which each have their own specific feel.
The poly foams within the mattress are highly responsive, springing back to shape quickly. However, the 3.5” of memory foam layers take longer to reform back to shape.
The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.
This creates a mixed performance, where the mostly recovered time is faster than average, while the full recovery speed is slightly slower than average.
While it would have been great to see faster fully recovered responsiveness, overall, I’m not worried about the response. There was no stuck feeling and no ease of movement issues. I don’t expect responsiveness will be an issue for most sleepers.
Bounce Test
The Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex has a very low level of bounce. During our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 5.49″. This is 3.90″ less bounce than the average of 9.39″, based on all of our tests to date.
Max. Depth
4.33″
Max. Rebound
1.16″
Total Bounce
5.49″
The lower bounce is a product of the all-foam design, thick 7.0” comfort layer, and 3.5” of memory foam. This combination of factors greatly reduces energy, impacts responsiveness, and decreases bounce.
The lower bounce is amazing for keeping motion transfer lower. However, it’s also the reason that sex performance is far from great.
Max. Sinkage Depth

Max Bounce Height

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.
Edge Support Test
The Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex has excellent sitting edge support and good lying edge support. In our sitting edge support test, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 3.75″. This is 0.31″ less sitting sinkage than the average of 4.06″, based on all of our tests to date.
Max Sinkage
3.75″
Lying Support
Good
While sitting directly on the edge I felt well-supported and there was no collapse of the materials. While sitting edge support was excellent, lying edge support wasn’t quite as good.
The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

While lying directly on the edge of the mattress, I felt that the support was good in all sleeping positions. However, it’s clear it doesn’t rise to the excellent or outstanding level.
The CopperFlex has the same basic problem that many memory foam mattresses have. The memory foam creates a dramatic body contouring hug, which creates a weakening of support at the edge.
The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.

Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.

That dramatic hug and contour in the middle of the mattress is great, but at the edge there isn’t enough foam to fully wrap and support the body. As a result, the part of the body nearest the edge doesn’t feel as well supported.
The mattress uses no reinforced foam along the edge, which is clearly having a notable impact for both sitting and lying edge support. Even so, it’s hard to complain too much at this price point.
This is a really impressive material design for a mattress at this price. While I would have liked to have seen a perimeter edge support foam, it would be wholly unexpected at this price.
Sex Test
The Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex has fair sex performance. On the positive side, noise is minimal and both pressure relief and edge support are excellent. In addition, cooling is good, even if not great.
This combination creates a comfortable and supportive mattress for the dance without pants. The one weak area for amorous activities is the very low level of bounce.
Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
---|---|---|---|
Bounce | 65% | 5.9 | Very Low |
Edge Support | 20% | 9.1 | Excellent |
Noise | 5% | 10 | Minimal |
Pressure Relief | 5% | 9.0 | Excellent |
Cooling | 5% | 8.0 | Good |
At just 5.49” of bounce, the CopperFlex has notably less bounce than average. This makes it more strenuous for sex, as the mattress just doesn’t work with couples to the same degree that a coil or hybrid mattress with more bounce is going to.
Pressure Relief Test
The Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex has an excellent level of pressure relief. During our tests, I felt no significant pressure points on my body. Overall, I was exceedingly surprised at the level of comfort.
Comfort Layer
7.0″
Support Layer
6.0″
The mattress has an astounding 7.0” of comfort material. 7.0” of comfort foams would be a lot in a luxury-level mattress, but to see it at this price point is really surprising. The foams all look and feel high quality.
This level of material quality at this price point is really only possible because Brooklyn Bedding owns its own factory and pours its own foams. Many other mattress brands don’t own their own factories and as a result simply cannot create this mattress with these foams, thicknesses, and quality levels at this price point.

The Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex has 2.85″ more comfort material than the average comfort layer thickness of 4.15″, based on all of our tests to date.
In our pressure mapping tests, we measured a max PSI of 1.02. A PSI of 2.0 is a high pressure point and the CopperFlex is well south of that. When I consider our objective pressure mapping tests, material thickness, material quality, and my subjective experience on the mattress, I’m confident most sleepers will find the pressure relief to be excellent.
Pressure Map – Side Sleepers

Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
---|---|---|
Side Sleepers | 0.16 | 1.02 |
Pressure Map – Back Sleepers

Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
---|---|---|
Back Sleepers | 0.09 | 0.79 |
Pressure Map – Stomach Sleepers

Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
---|---|---|
Stomach Sleepers | 0.11 | 1.01 |
Off-Gassing Test
The Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex had a strong smell upon the initial unboxing. The mattress smelled for 9 days. This is 2.6 days more than the average of 6.4 days.
Initial Smell Strength
Strong
Off-Gassing Period
9 days
During the 9 day smell-period the mattress smelled like wet paint. That said, after 9 days, all smell had dissipated and there was no longer a strong odor.
Company
The CopperFlex Pro Hybrid is produced by Brooklyn Bedding, a company that has been around since 1995 and has been selling online mattresses directly since 2009.
Company Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Data |
---|---|---|---|
Trial Period | 15% | 8.0 | 120 nights |
Warranty | 10% | 10 | Lifetime |
Shipping | 5% | 10 | $0 |
Returns | 20% | 7.0 | $99 |
Trust | 50% | 10 | Outstanding |
Country of Origin | 0% | USA |
They offer a 120-night trial period with a lifetime warranty. Shipping is free and you can return the mattress, but there is a $99 return fee to do so.

Compared to the average, the Brooklyn Bedding trial period is 58 nights shorter (average is 178 nights), but the warranty is much longer. The average mattress warranty is 13 years, excluding 26% of mattresses that offer a lifetime warranty.
The last ding against Brooklyn Bedding is the $99 return fee. Of over 290+ mattresses tested to date, 79% offer free returns, so Brooklyn Bedding is certainly in the minority here.
How firm is the CopperFlex?
The Brooklyn Bedding Copperflex memory foam mattress has a medium-firm feel, 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale, where 10 is the most firm.

For reference, the CopperFlex is also available in a memory foam hybrid, which has the same medium-firm (6) feel. This firmness is suitable to a wide range of sleeper types and is the most popular firmness we test.
Support & Sleeping Positions
Support on the Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex is excellent. During our tests, I felt well supported in all sleeping positions. The mattress is equipped with a 6.0″ support layer. This is 1.87″ thinner than the average support layer thickness of 7.87″, based on all of our tests to date.
Despite this thinner support layer, the mattress still provided ample support. The total height of the mattress is 13.0”, which is 1.0” thicker than the average total height of 12.0”.

All of that extra comfort material certainly helps to create both great comfort and transitional support for the mattress, assisting the total support dynamic.
Check out the table below to see the sleeper weights and sleeping positions that would be best suited for this mattress.
Sleeper Weight | Stomach Sleepers | Side Sleepers | Back Sleepers |
---|---|---|---|
Under 150 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
150-250 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
250-300 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
The mattress has a medium-firm feel and a moderate level of sinkage. This firmness and sinkage depth is appropriate to the needs of most sleepers, sleeping positions, and body weights.
Lastly, the CopperFlex is equipped with a zonal support foam in the core of the mattress. That layer has an extra support foam cut into the middle third, providing more support where most sleepers carry most of their weight.

Based on all of my tests to date, an analysis of the materials, and my subjective experiences, I’m confident most sleepers will find support on the Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex is excellent.

The Cover
The cover of the CopperFlex mattress is a 2.0″ quilted cover with a soft feel and balanced contour. According to Brooklyn Bedding, this cover is only 1.0″, but we found the actual thickness to be closer to 2.0″.

It feels very plush and would be especially beneficial for side sleepers, who tend to need a little more contour along the line of their spine.
The Comfort Layer
The comfort layer is made up of three layers of foam, with two additional foam layers below making up the support layer.
From top to bottom, we have a 2.0″ copper-infused memory foam followed by a 1.5″ memory foam (green / gray). The third foam is a zoned poly foam (blue) that is reinforced along areas where greater pressure is expected (ex: mid-section and butt, etc).

The Support Layer
Below the zoned poly foam is a non-zoned poly foam that acts as a transitional layer above the support material.
The support materials include a 1.5″ support foam followed by a 4.5″ higher-density support foam at the base. This provides 6.0″ of total support material below the comfort material.
