Our Verdict
The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe is a hybrid mattress that is 13.25″ thick and contains poly foam, pocketed coils, and a thin support foam base, all wrapped in a quilted cover.
This mattress has moderate sinkage and moderate bounce for a balanced feel, all around.
In our performance tests, the Aurora Luxe Hybrid has an overall score of 9.33, which ranks it in the top 5% of all mattresses tested to date. Looking specifically at hybrids, the Aurora Luxe is within the top 5 best hybrids.
Concerning price, this mattress is a little more than the average hybrid but not by much—a difference of 22% or $325 for a queen mattress. It has a better performance so many sleepers may find that the added price is worth it for the added performance.

How is the Aurora Luxe Different?
The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe is a hybrid mattress with above-average overall performance and a price that is also slightly above the average—23% more than the average hybrid.
If you’re looking for high-quality performance and don’t mind paying a little extra to get it, the Aurora Luxe is a fantastic pick.
Advantages
Specific advantages for the Aurora Luxe include better cooling performance, lower levels of motion transfer, and response time is also faster than average. It has excellent edge support with only 3.5″ of sinkage when seated directly at the edge.
Pressure relief is exceptional and it has a 13.25″ thickness, 1.25″ thicker than the average mattress. The lifetime warranty is also among only 25% of mattresses that offer it.
Neutral Factors
This mattress has moderate levels of sinkage and moderate levels of bounce. For a balanced feel, it really checks all the right boxes without being too extreme in any single category.
Disadvantages
Besides the price being slightly higher than the average hybrid, there are no other real disadvantages to the Aurora Luxe among any of the 10 performance tests we ran.
Excluding performance factors, the Aurora Luxe trial is slightly shorter than average (by a little over a month).

Cooling Test
The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe has an outstanding level of cooling performance. During our tests, I felt no heat retention around my body.
Baseline Temp.
74.0° F
Max Temp.
87.1° F
Ending Temp.
79.3° F
The mattress has a cover infused with cooling fibers that give it a substantial “cool the touch” feel. In addition, cooling is aided by the hybrid design, use of poly foam over memory foam, and high-quality foams that breathe extremely well.
Max Temp.

Ending Temp

- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
Heat Dissipation Over Time

In our objective temperature testing, we measured a max surface level temperature of 87.1°F, which is 2.5° cooler than the average of 89.6°.
Overall, I’m impressed with the level of cooling performance. Based on our objective data, subjective experience, and material analysis, I’m confident most sleepers will find the Aurora Luxe to be a cool mattress.
Sinkage Test
The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe has a moderate level of sinkage. In our sinkage tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage of 2.04”. This is 0.10” less sinkage than the average of 2.14”.
Sinkage Depth
2.04″
Sinkage Feel
Moderate
The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

The mattress creates a balanced body contouring hug. The use of a euro top cover, high-response poly foams (as opposed to memory foam), and a zoned pocketed coil unit create the right material conditions to deliver a non-polarizing feel and an even sinkage that most sleepers will enjoy.
Motion Transfer Test
The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe has a low level of motion transfer. During our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 9.06 m/s². This is 3% more motion transfer than the average of 8.78 m/s².
Max. Acceleration
4.53 m/s²
Min. Acceleration
-4.53 m/s²
Accel. Range
9.06 m/s²
The Aurora has the material and design components that allow for lower motion. 4.25” of comfort foams on top coupled with a pocketed coil base are both doing their part to reduce and eliminate motion.
The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.
In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion peaks from 0.23 seconds. Motion drops off thereafter, but remains bumpy until 1.13 seconds, when we return to near-zero levels of energy.

While I do wish the motion duration was shorter, it’s hard to complain too much given that there was only one significant motion spike and even it was still held to the “low” benchmark in our motion transfer scale.
Overall, I don’t expect motion will be a problem for most sleepers.
Response Test
The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe has a very fast material response. During our mostly recovered test, we measured a material responsiveness of 0.2 seconds, which is 0.20 seconds faster than the average of 0.40 seconds.
Mostly Recovered
0.2 sec.
Complete Recovery
0.7 sec.
The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.
During our fully recovered test, we measured a material responsiveness of 0.7 seconds, which is 0.2 seconds faster than the average of 0.9 seconds. While the full material recovery isn’t quite instant, it’s still going to be plenty fast enough for most sleepers.
The mattress uses no memory foam, instead opting for high-response poly foams within the comfort layer that are supported by a pocketed coil unit.
These materials work together to achieve fast responsiveness. The rapid response helps ensure you’ll never feel stuck in the mattress.
Bounce Test
The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe has a moderate level of bounce. During our tests, we measured 8.96” of total bounce height. This is 0.77” less bounce than the average of 9.73”.
Max. Depth
4.48″
Max. Rebound
4.48″
Total Bounce
8.96″
Max. Sinkage Depth

Max Bounce Height

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.
Ideally, I like to see 8-12” of bounce, which is something of a sweet spot where we maximize benefits for amorous activities and ease of movement, while still keeping motion transfer in check.
At 8.96” the Aurora Luxe is on the lower end, but still well within my ideal range. Being a little on the lower end does soften the sex score, however, it’s also a significant reason for the motion transfer being so well restrained.
Overall, I’m pleased with the level of bounce and don’t expect it will be an issue for most sleepers.
Edge Support Test
The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe has excellent edge support for both sitting and lying. In our sitting edge support tests, we measured 3.5” of sitting sinkage compression. This is 0.54” less sitting sinkage than the average of 4.04”.
Max Sinkage
3.50″
Lying Support
Excellent
While sitting directly on the edge I felt well-supported and there was no collapse of materials. Edge support while lying is equally as impressive.
The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

While lying directly on the edge of the mattress I felt well supported in all sleeping positions. The Aurora Luxe uses thicker reinforced coils along the edge of the mattress.
The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.

Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.

These coils run along the entire perimeter of the mattress and dramatically improve edge performance for both sitting and lying. I expect most sleepers will find edge support to be more than sufficient.
Sex Test
The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe has good sex performance, though it does leave room for improvement. With respect to edge support, noise, pressure relief, and cooling, performance is fantastic. However, the same can’t be said for bounce.
During our tests, we measured 8.96” of total bounce height. This is a reasonably good level of bounce, and yet only earns a score of 8.0 in our tests. All that to say, sex performance is good, but not quite amazing either.
Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
---|---|---|---|
Bounce | 65% | 8.1 | High |
Edge Support | 20% | 9.4 | Excellent |
Noise | 5% | 10 | Minimal |
Pressure Relief | 5% | 10 | Outstanding |
Cooling | 5% | 10 | Outstanding |

Pressure Relief Test
The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe has excellent pressure relief. During our tests, I felt no significant pressure points anywhere on my body.
Comfort Layer
4.25″
Support Layer
9.0″
Quite to the contrary, the mattress was incredibly comfortable during all testing, even our test where we lie in the exact same position for 15 minutes.
The Aurora Luxe uses a thick 4.25” comfort layer consisting of a 0.5” quilted cover, 1.75” high response poly foam (BB calls it CopperFlex), and another 2.0” poly foam (BB calls it VariFlex).

At 4.25” of comfort material the Aurora is thicker than the average comfort layer thickness, which is 4.1”, based on all of our tests to date. Lastly, the mattress is available in 3 different firmnesses.
Being able to get the precise firmness that your body needs is beneficial to further reducing pressure points and support issues. Overall, I’m pleased with the level of pressure relief performance and I expect most sleepers will be as well.

This is shorter than average—for comparison, the average off-gassing duration is 6 days.
Company
Brooklyn Bedding has been around since 1995 and selling mattresses online since 2009. The company offers a 120-night trial period and lifetime warranty. Shipping is free to your door and if the mattress ends up not working out returns are $99.
Company Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Data |
---|---|---|---|
Trial Period | 15% | 8.0 | 120 nights |
Warranty | 10% | 10 | Lifetime |
Shipping | 5% | 10 | $0 |
Returns | 20% | 7.0 | $99 |
Trust | 50% | 10 | Outstanding |
Country of Origin | 0% | USA |
Compared to the average mattress we test, the trial period is short but the warranty is well-above average. The average trial is 177 nights. Among all mattresses we’ve tested, 25% have lifetime warranties and the average of other 77% of mattresses is 13 years.
How firm is Aurora Luxe Hybrid?
The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe mattress is available in 3 firmness levels—soft (4 out of 10), medium (6 out of 10), and firm (8 out of 10).

Our tests here are based on the medium version which has a medium-firm feel.
Support & Sleeping Positions
The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe has excellent support. During our tests, I felt well-supported in all sleeping positions. The mattress checks all of the support boxes I look for.
First up, we have 9.0” of support materials, consisting of an 8.0” pocketed coil unit that sits atop a 1.0” support foam on the foundation of the mattress. This 9.0” support layer is notably thicker than the average support layer, which is only 7.9”, based on all of our tests to date.

That extra thickness and the foundational support foam help to improve support performance. Second, the mattress is available in 3 firmnesses.
Having multiple firmnesses is valuable for support as it allows you to get the exact level of firmness that your body needs to achieve a neutral spinal alignment, which reduces pressure and improves support.
Last but not least, the coils are “zoned”, meaning they create more support in the middle of the mattress where most sleepers carry the most weight.
This further helps to achieve a neutral spinal alignment. I expect most sleepers will find the support to be more than sufficient.

The Cover
The standard cover on the Aurora Luxe is a diamond-quilted 0.5″ thick cooling cover infused with cooling fibers. It is designed to pull heat away from your body while lying on the mattress, which is exactly what I experienced in the cooling test.

The Comfort Layer
The comfort layer is made up of two layers of foam. The top layer is a 1.75″ poly foam (green) followed by a 2.0″ transitional poly foam (white).

These two layers work together to provide comfort and transitional support as your body weight sinks into the mattress.
For added softness, you can opt to add a pillowtop cover for an additional cost.
The Support Layer
The support layer is made of 8.0″ pocketed coils (up to 1,032 coils) that are individually encased in a thin fabric.
These coils use a 3-zone design with reinforced coils where you need the support.
Edges also use a reinforced coil to improve support as well.

Product Evolution
The Aurora Luxe first came out in 2017 as a standard hybrid, with a combination of foams and coils. But the original Aurora is not the same as the Aurora that ships today.
The original Aurora Luxe used Ascension X coils, which is a pocketed coil with consistent firmness and gauge across the entirety of the mattress. In 2021, we tested a version that contained zoned coils.
Zoned coils are firmer in the center of the mattress, where pressure is higher, and softer on the ends, where pressure is typically less.
In 2024, a newer Aurora Luxe (still with zoned coils) was released. This mattress has the same thickness as the 2021 version, but some changes to the materials.
Here is a list of the most notable changes:
- Updated Quilted Cover (GlacioTex)
- Optional Pillowtop Cover
- Thinner Comfort Layer (20% thinner, but better seemingly better quality foams that performed notably better)
- Thicker Support Foam (25% thicker)
