Our Verdict
The Bedstory Cooling Collection Luxe is a 14.75″ memory foam hybrid mattress made of memory foam, poly foam, and a pocketed coil support layer. This mattress has a plush pillow top cover and tufted accents for a more traditional look.
The Bedstory Cooling Collection Luxe is available in a single firmness level — medium. In our tests, this is a 5 out of 10 on our firmness scale, where 10 is the most firm. This mattress is available in 3 height options, Premier 12″, Pro 13″, and Luxe 14″. We tested the Luxe 14″ version, which actually measured 14.75″ in our height measurements.
This mattress has deep sinkage and very low levels of bounce. It also has a dramatic contour
In our performance tests, this mattress earned an overall score of 8.32, ranking the mattress in the bottom 29% of all mattresses tested to date. And if we look exclusively at memory foam hybrids, that rank drops even lower to the bottom 10% of mattresses. But where the Bedstory shines is the price tag.
The Bedstory Cooling Collection Luxe is $1,099 for a queen-sized mattress, which is 41% less expensive than the average memory foam hybrid we’ve tested. If you’re on a tight budget and okay with some of the performance disadvantages, the Bedstory can be a good choice.

How is Bedstory Cooling Collection Luxe Different?
The Bedstory Cooling Collection Luxe is a 14.75″ memory foam hybrid mattress with an overall performance level that is below average, but with a price that offers significant savings compared to average as well.
Advantages
Specific advantages of the Bedstory include better motion isolation and better than average pressure relief. This mattress has a 6.25″ comfort layer, which is significantly thicker than the 4.35″ average thickness.
The mattress also comes with a longer 365-night trial period, which is great for sleepers who want the maximum amount of time to try out the mattress.
Neutral Factors
The Bedstory Cooling Luxe has deep sinkage and very low bounce. The contour is dramatic on the Bedstory, an advantage for sleepers who like a bit more hug.

Disadvantages
Disadvantages of this mattress include worse cooling performance, worse edge support, and a below-average sex score. The response time is also very slow, taking 1.8 seconds for the materials to fully recover (where the average is 1.0 seconds). The slow response time makes this mattress harder to move around on, change positions, and get in / out of bed.
Cooling Test
The Bedstory Cooling Collection Luxe has good cooling. During our tests, I felt a slight level of heat retention around my body, but it was nothing extreme.
Baseline Temp.
80.0° F
Max. Temp.
91.9° F
Ending Temp.
82.5° F
The cooling of this mattress is enhanced by a cooling cover, which gives the surface of the mattress a moderate cool-to-the-touch feel. In addition, the hybrid design helps to bring more airflow into the mattress.
Max. Temp.

Ending Temp.

- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
While these design attributes are absolutely helping, they weren’t enough to overcome the significantly thicker-than-average comfort layer and massive 4.0” memory foam layer.
Having a single 4.0” layer of memory foam within the comfort foams is quite rare. That foam feels fantastic on the body, but it’s also fair to say that it’s not doing any favors for the breathability or cooling performance of the mattress.
In our objective temperature tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 91.9° F. This is 1.7° warmer than the average of 90.2° F, based on all of our tests to date.
After getting off the mattress, the temperature declined by 7.7 degrees from minutes 0 to 1, which is 2.9 degrees cooler than the average 0 to 1 minute decline of 4.8 degrees.
Heat Dissipation Over Time

When we consider the combination of objective data, my subjective experiences, and an analysis of the materials, I’m confident in my view that cooling is good.
Sinkage Test
The Bedstory Cooling Collection Luxe has deep sinkage. During our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 2.43″.
This is 0.18″ more sinkage than the average sinkage depth of 2.25″, based on all of our tests to date. The mattress creates a dramatic body contouring, which is to be expected with a memory foam hybrid.
Sinkage Depth
2.43″
Sinkage Feel
Deep
Body Contour
Dramatic
The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

This mattress uses a super thick foam comfort layer that includes 4.75” of memory foam (0.75” in the pillow top and a 4.0” solid layer below the pillow top).
Those layers help to deliver a more classic and traditional memory foam feel. That means lots of body contouring hug, a more exacting hugging sensation around the body, and a slower material recovery speed. This feel isn’t good or bad, but it is a specific feel.
You’ll need to strongly prefer the feel of body-hugging contour to enjoy the feel of the Bedstory.
Motion Transfer Test
The Bedstory Cooling Collection Luxe has a very low level of motion transfer. During our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 5.35 m/s². This is 39% less motion transfer than the average of 8.80 m/s².
Accel. Range
5.35 m/s²
Motion Duration
0.93 seconds
The lower motion transfer is the result of both a considerably thicker-than-average comfort layer and the thick memory foam layers. More foam in the mattress means there is more material that can disperse and mitigate energy.
Likewise, the memory foam layers in particular do a great job at absorbing energy. This type of memory foam creates less bounce and is slower to recover to its original shape after it has been compressed.
These attributes are greatly beneficial for reducing motion transfer.
The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.
In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.2 seconds. Motion drops off thereafter, and we see a steady, gradual acceleration decline.
Motion Transfer Over Time

By 0.93 seconds, we’ve returned to near-zero levels of energy, which is 0.03 seconds longer than the average motion duration of 0.90 seconds.
While motion duration is a whisper beyond the average, motion intensity is considerably below average.
When we consider the complete picture of motion transfer data, material design, and motion experience, I’m confident most sleepers will find this level of motion transfer to be more than satisfactory.
Response Test
The Bedstory Cooling Collection Luxe has a very slow material response.
Mostly Recovered
0.9 sec.
Fully Recovered
1.8 sec.
In our mostly recovered test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.9 seconds, which is 0.48 seconds slower than the average of 0.42 seconds, based on all of our tests to date.
In our fully recovered responsiveness test, we measured a recovery speed of 1.8 seconds, which is 0.78 seconds slower than the average of 1.02 seconds.
The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.
The slower material recovery speed is a product of 4.75” of memory foam within the mattress (0.75” within the pillow top and another 4.0” memory foam layer below that).
This particular type of memory foam has a more traditional feel, meaning it takes longer to reform to its original shape and creates a more dramatic body contouring hug. That slower material recovery speed makes this mattress harder to move around on, change positions, and get in or out of bed.
Bounce Test
The Bedstory Cooling Collection Luxe has a very low level of bounce. During our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 5.82″. This is 2.85″ less bounce than the average of 8.67″, based on all of our tests to date.
Max. Depth
4.53″
Max. Rebound
1.29″
Total Bounce
5.82″
The lower bounce is the result of a thicker-than-average foam comfort layer and a foam comfort layer that includes 4.75” of memory foam. The memory foam, especially, greatly absorbs and disperses energy. Those attributes are fantastic for lowering motion transfer.
Max. Sinkage Depth

Max. Bounce Height

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.
However, a lower bounce also means that sex is worse and the mattress is harder to move around on and change positions.
As a result, you should consider which is most important to you: lower motion transfer? Or better sex performance and ease of movement?
Edge Support Test
The Bedstory Cooling Collection Luxe has good sitting edge support and good lying edge support.
Max. Sinkage
4.25″
Lying Support
Good
Reinforced Edge
Yes
In our sitting edge support test, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 4.25″. This is 0.40″ more sitting sinkage than the average of 3.85″, based on all of our tests to date.
The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

While lying directly on the edge of the mattress, I felt that the support was good in all sleeping positions. Notably, this mattress uses a reinforced support foam that runs along the entire perimeter of the mattress.

That edge foam is absolutely helping improve both sitting and lying edge support. All that said, while edge support is good, I think it’s fair to say that it’s not great.
The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.

Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.

Memory foam hybrids often struggle with edge support, and we saw that here as well. The memory foam contouring hug, which is great in the middle of the mattress, creates a weakening of support along the edge, as there simply isn’t enough material on the edge side to fully conform and support the body.
In addition, the cover design has a slight downward curvature at the edge. This further weakens the edge support.
When we look at the complete picture of edge support, we see it earns a notably below-average score.
Sex Test
The Bedstory Cooling Collection Luxe has fair sex performance. On the positive side, noise is minimal, pressure relief is excellent, and cooling is good enough. Sitting edge support is also good enough, but as we discussed earlier, it’s far from great.

Memory foam and memory foam hybrids often struggle more with edge support and we see that here as well. To be clear, it’s not bad, but it is below average.
Lastly, we have to discuss bounce. In our bounce tests, we measured a total bounce height of 5.82”. This is significantly less bounce than average. The more restrained level of bounce makes this mattress more tiring and strenuous for amorous activities.
| Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bounce | 65% | 6.1 | Low |
| Edge Support | 20% | 8.4 | Good |
| Noise | 5% | 10 | Minimal |
| Pressure Relief | 5% | 9.0 | Excellent |
| Cooling | 5% | 8.0 | Good |
To be clear, this more restrained bounce and limited sex performance is less a problem with Bedstory specifically, but rather most memory foam and memory foam hybrid mattresses.
If you want memory foam, you should be prepared for worse sex performance.
Pressure Relief Test
The Bedstory Cooling Collection Luxe has an excellent level of pressure relief. During our tests, I felt no significant pressure points on my body. Overall, the mattress is quite comfortable.
Comfort Layer
6.25″
Support Layer
8.50″
The mattress is equipped with 6.25″ of comfort material, which is 1.91″ more comfort material than the average comfort layer thickness of 4.34″, based on all of our tests to date. This mattress uses a combined 4.75” of memory foam within the 6.25” comfort layer.
All of that memory foam creates a dramatic and exacting body contouring hug. This can be a more polarizing feel, as some sleepers love this hugging sensation, while many others do not.

You’ll want to be sure that your body prefers a more notable hugging sensation to be comfortable with the Bedstory. This more dramatic feel is amplified by the deeper sinkage into the foams (2.43”).
In our objective pressure mapping tests, we measured a max PSI of 0.37, which is well within the 1.0 PSI threshold that I ideally want all mattresses to be within.
Pressure Map – Side Sleepers

| Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Side Sleepers | 0.08 | 0.37 |
Pressure Map – Back Sleepers

| Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Back Sleepers | 0.05 | 0.37 |
Pressure Map – Stomach Sleepers

| Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Stomach Sleepers | 0.07 | 0.25 |
When I consider our objective pressure-mapping tests, material thickness, material quality, and my subjective experience with the mattress, I’m confident most sleepers will find the pressure relief excellent.
Off-Gassing Test
The Bedstory Cooling Collection Luxe had a strong smell upon the initial unboxing. The mattress smelled for 7 days. This is 0.5 days shorter than the average smell duration of 7.5 days.

| Warranty | 20% | 8.0 | 10 years |
| Shipping | 10% | 10 | $0 |
| Country of Origin | 0% | USA |
Comparing 117+ brands tested to date, the average trial period is 185 nights, 180 nights less than BedStory offers. The average warranty is 13 years, which is 3 years more than the Bedstory warranty.
Of course, this excludes the 42% of mattresses that offer lifetime warranties.

How firm is Bedstory Cooling Collection Luxe?
The Bedstory Cooling Collection Luxe is only available in a single firmness option, which they describe as a “plush sensation ideal for side sleepers”.

Based on my experience, the Bedstory has a medium feel, which I rate as a 5 out of 10, where 10 is the most firm.
Support & Sleeping Positions
Support on the Bedstory Cooling Collection Luxe is good. During our tests, I felt well supported in all sleeping positions.
| Support Factor | Data |
|---|---|
| Comfort Layer | 6.25″ |
| Support Layer | 8.50″ |
| Firmness | Medium |
| Body Contour | Dramatic |
| Zoned Support | No |
| Reinforced Edge | Yes |
The mattress is equipped with an 8.5″ support layer. This is 0.55″ thicker than the average support layer thickness of 7.95″, based on all of our tests to date.
In all mattress tests, we make a point to cut the mattress open to examine the material layers. In doing so, I’m generally pleased with what we saw and measured. Foams look and feel good quality, both on the body and in-hand.

In our foam density tests, we found foam layers ranging from a 1.52 to a 2.36 PCF. These density levels are far from ideal. A lower density can help to reduce costs, but typically lower density foams don’t last as long as higher density foams. The relative foam density levels make me concerned for the durability and longevity of the mattress.

Our digital caliper measured a 14-gauge coil unit, which is a bit on the thicker side compared to many others we’ve tested. While the foam density leaves much to be desired, I am pleased to see a 14-gauge coil utilized.
Check out the table below to see the sleeper weights and sleeping positions that would be best suited for this mattress.
| Sleeper Weight | Stomach Sleeper | Side Sleeper | Back Sleeper |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under 150 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| 150-250 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| 250-300 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Moving on, this mattress has a medium firmness, 5 out of 10 on our firmness scale. This firmness is appropriate to the needs of most sleepers and sleeping positions.
Lastly, this mattress does not use any type of zoned support. Instead, we have consistent support from the head to the foot of the mattress. Ideally, I want to see zoned support, but it’s less common at this price point.
Based on all of my tests to date, an analysis of the materials, and my subjective experiences, I’m confident that most sleepers will find support on the Bedstory Cooling Collection Luxe is good.
Design
The Bedstory Cooling Collection Luxe is a 14.75″ memory foam hybrid mattress that comes in a single firmness option—Medium. This is a high-profile memory foam hybrid at a budget price.
| Design Factor | Data |

| Thickness | 14.75″ |
| Cover Type | Pillow Top |
| Weight | 115 lbs. |

Looking at all mattresses that we’ve tested to date that are 14.75″ or thicker, the average price is $2,402 for a queen mattress. Only 4 mattresses that we’ve tested at this thickness are sold at a lower cost than the Bedstory Cooling Collection Hybrid.

All of this to say, the Bedstory is a solid value if you are specifically looking for a high-profile memory foam hybrid.

The Cover
The Bedstory Cooling Collection Luxe has a 2.25″ pillow top cover with quilted tufted accents and a plush feel. Quilted within the cover is a 0.75″ memory foam as well as a 0.75″ poly foam.

This cover uses a cooling fabric that has a cool-to-the-touch feel and is designed to feel instantly cool when you lie on it.
The Comfort Layer
The comfort layer is 6.25″ thick, if we include the pillow top cover. Beneath the cover is a 4.00″ memory foam layer that makes up the bulk of the comfort dynamic.

Because of the natural properties of memory foam, the Bedstory has a more dramatic contour that hugs sleepers and has a more exacting feel than the average mattress.
The Support Layer
The support layer is 8.50″ thick and made of 8.0″ pocketed coils (14 gauge) followed by a 0.25″ poly foam at the base of the mattress.

The coils are individually encased in a thin fabric, and there is a poly foam layer that wraps the perimeter of the mattress for improved edge support.
Product Evolution
The Bedstory Cooling Collection Luxe is a newer mattress, having just launched in 2026. This mattress was launched alongside the SpineAlign Collection, which we hope to test in the future.
This mattress was released with three different versions of this mattress:
- Bedstory Cooling Collection Premier 12″
- Bedstory Cooling Collection Pro 13″
- Bedstory Cooling Collection Luxe 14″
We tested the Luxe 14″ and found the mattress to be slightly thicker than advertised.
