Best For
- Priced 13% less than the average mattress, comparing over 280+ mattresses tested to date
- Faster off-gassing than average
- Great edge support when sitting or lying
Considerations
- Higher levels of motion transfer
- Cooling performance is good, but certainly not great
- 15″ thick mattress (with 6.0″ comfort layer), but pressure relief is lacking in our performance tests
Our Verdict
The Beautyrest Harmony Lux is a 15″ hybrid mattress with a robust 2.5″ quilted cover, and a comfort layer of poly foam and memory foam, followed by a pocketed coil base.
It has very deep sinkage and moderate levels of bounce. This gives the mattress a deeper level of contour and hug with restrained bounce.
The Harmony Lux is available in two series types—the Premier Anchor Island and the Exceptional Coral Island. The Premier Anchor Island (the version we tested) is available in four firmness levels, Plush, Plush Pillow Top, Medium Pillow Top, and Firm. If you opt for the Exceptional Coral Island series, it is available in Plush Pillow Top, Medium, Firm Pillow Top, and Extra Firm.
In our performance tests, the Harmony Lux earned an overall score of 8.34, ranking in the bottom 29% of all mattresses tested to date.
One advantage is the price, $1,399 for a queen, which makes the mattress just slightly more expensive than the average hybrid. Overall we found performance to be good, though it didn’t rise to the excellent or outstanding levels.

How is Beautyrest Harmony Lux Different?
The Beautyrest Harmony Lux has an overall score that is below the average performance, and with a price tag that is just slightly above the average. While the price is only 1% more than the average hybrid, be prepared to give up some aspects of performance if you opt for this hybrid.
Advantages
There are few advantages to this mattress, but it does offer better edge support, both for sitting and lying and a price tag that is near average (although technically still more than average so not really an “advantage”).
Neutral Factors
This mattress has very deep sinkage and moderate levels of bounce. If you like contour and hug, the Harmony Lux could be the right feel for you.
Material responsiveness is also a bit of a neutral factor. Although the initial response of the Harmony Lux is faster than average, the time for full response is slightly slower than average.
Disadvantages
Disadvantages of this mattress would be below-average cooling performance, higher levels of motion transfer, and worse pressure relief.
The below-average pressure relief surprised me a bit, being that this mattress is 15″ thick and has a 6.0″ comfort layer (1.8″ thicker than average).

Typically, when we see thicker comfort layers, it correlates with better pressure relief, but, unfortunately, that’s not what we experienced on the Harmony Lux.
Finally, the trial period and warranty are both shorter than average.
Cooling Test
The Beautyrest Harmony Lux has good cooling. However, it didn’t rise to the excellent or outstanding performance levels. During our tests, I felt a slight level of heat retention around my body.
Baseline Temp.
76.1° F
Max Temp.
91.8° F
Ending Temp.
79.4° F
The mattress benefits from the hybrid design, which brings additional airflow into the mattress. However, in my view, that’s the only significant cooling advantage on the mattress. The thick 6.0” comfort layer, deeper sinkage, and relatively low-quality foams are all contributing to heat buildup in the mattress.
Max Temp.

Ending Temp

- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
In general, I am not impressed with any of the foam layers. The memory foam layer looks reasonably good, but the other poly foam layers look and feel below average.
The foams have a noticeable “crunchiness” to them, which is something we’ve seen on other mattresses with similar cooling issues. These foams really make me worried about the longevity of the mattress.
According to Beautyrest, the cover uses “advanced cooling with surface-level cooling fibers and plant-based cooling technology”. Based on my experiences, I did not feel any notable level of cooling on the cover.
Heat Dissipation Over Time
In our objective temperature tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 91.8° F. This is 2.1° more than the average of 89.7° F, based on all of our tests to date.

To sum it all up, the cover doesn’t have a noticeable cool-to-the-touch feel, the foams look and feel lower quality, objective data shows they are retaining more heat, and the subjective experience was slightly warm throughout tests.
When we consider the combination of objective data, my subjective experiences, and an analysis of the materials, I’m confident in my view that cooling is good, but also far from great.
Sinkage Test
The Beautyrest Harmony Lux has a very deep sinkage. During our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 2.70″. This is 0.54″ more sinkage than the average sinkage depth of 2.16″, based on all of our tests to date.
Sinkage Depth
2.70″
Sinkage Feel
Very Deep
The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

Despite the deeper sinkage, the mattress creates a fairly balanced body-contouring hug. The foams don’t wrap or tightly contour to the body like many other types of foam will.
Instead, there is a more loose and traditional type of a hug. The top pillow top feels loosely packed. As a result, the body easily and quickly sinks into the mattress. This isn’t necessarily good or bad, but it is a specific feel, one which you’ll need to like to be comfortable on the mattress.
Motion Transfer Test
The Beautyrest Harmony Lux has a moderate level of motion transfer. During our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 9.80 m/s². This is 12% more motion transfer than the average of 8.74 m/s².
Max. Acceleration
4.23 m/s²
Min. Acceleration
-5.57 m/s²
Accel. Range
9.80 m/s²
The higher-than-average motion transfer is most likely a result of the pillow top design, deeper sinkage, and pocketed coil layer.
The looser pillow top means the ball drops more abruptly and deeply into the mattress, and therefore closer to the pocketed coil. This results in an increase in motion transfer. All that said, this level of motion isn’t excessive or alarming, in my view.
The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.
In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.15 seconds. Motion remains spiky for another half second or so and by 0.94 seconds we return to near-zero levels of energy.

Overall, motion transfer on the Harmony Lux is good, but also far from great. Both motion intensity and motion duration are more than average.
Response Test
The Beautyrest Harmony Lux is a mixed bag for material responsiveness, with an extremely fast mostly recovered response time and a moderate fully recovered response time.
Mostly Recovered
0.2 sec.
Complete Recovery
1.2 sec.
In our mostly recovered test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.2 seconds, which is 0.22 seconds faster than the average of 0.42 seconds, based on all of our tests to date.
In our fully recovered responsiveness test, we measured a recovery speed of 1.2 seconds, which is 0.24 seconds slower than the average of 0.96 seconds. Most of the foam layers within the mattress are responsive poly foams.
The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.
Those layers are able to return to their original shape quickly. However, there is also a 0.5” of traditionally formulated memory foam. This layer takes a few moments to recover back to its original form.
Its position within the middle of the mattress means that the entire mattress takes longer than average to fully recover to its original shape. Like so many performance criteria we tested on the Harmony Lux, performance is good, but certainly not amazing.
Bounce Test
The Beautyrest Harmony Lux has a moderate level of bounce. During our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 8.13″. This is 1.22″ less bounce than the average of 9.35″, based on all of our tests to date.
Max. Depth
5.30″
Max. Rebound
2.83″
Total Bounce
8.13″
Max. Sinkage Depth

Max Bounce Height

The combination of medium firmness, very deep sinkage, a looser pillow top, and 6.0” of foam comfort materials, are all working together to keep bounce held to a minimum.
The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.
The lower-than-average bounce, in combination with the very deep sinkage and looser pillow top, does make it more difficult to move around on the mattress. In addition, the lower bounce also negatively impacts sex performance.
Ideally, I want to see more bounce than what we measured on the Harmony Lux, especially in a case like this with deeper sinkage.
Edge Support Test
The Beautyrest Harmony Lux has excellent sitting edge support and excellent lying edge support. In our sitting edge support test, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 3.50″. This is 0.55″ less sitting sinkage than the average of 4.05″, based on all of our tests to date.
Max Sinkage
3.50″
Lying Support
Excellent
Even while sitting directly on the edge there is no collapse of the materials and the mattress supports my full body weight. Edge support while lying is equally as impressive.
The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

While lying directly on the edge of the mattress I felt fully supported in all sleeping positions. The Beautyrest Harmony Lux uses a robust edge support foam that runs along the entire perimeter of the mattress.
The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.

Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.

That support foam is 4.0” wide and 8.0” tall and it’s having a significant impact on both sitting and lying edge support performance.
Sex Test
The Beautyrest Harmony Lux has good sex performance. On the positive side, noise is minimal, pressure relief is excellent, and edge support is excellent.
The 8.0” tall and 4.0” wide support foam that runs along the edge makes a huge impact on edge support performance for sitting, lying, and amorous activities.
Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
---|---|---|---|
Bounce | 65% | 7.6 | Moderate |
Edge Support | 20% | 9.4 | Excellent |
Noise | 5% | 10 | Minimal |
Pressure Relief | 5% | 8.0 | Good |
Cooling | 5% | 8.0 | Good |
In the mid-range of performance, we have cooling, which is good, but also far from great. Fortunately, cooling is a relatively minor factor when it comes to sex performance, so it’s not hugely detrimental to performance.
That said, what is more detrimental is the level of bounce. At 8.13” of total bounce the Harmony Lux has less bounce than average.

When it comes to sex performance, more bounce is almost always better. Ideally, I want to see 10” or more and the Beautyrest is well south of that number.
Pressure Relief Test
The Beautyrest Harmony Lux has a good level of pressure relief. During our tests, I felt no significant level of pressure points anywhere on my body.
Comfort Layer
6.0″
Support Layer
9.0″
Overall, I found the mattress to be comfortable. The mattress is equipped with 6.0″ of comfort material, which is 1.83″ more comfort material than the average comfort layer thickness of 4.17″, based on all of our tests to date.
While I was generally pleased with the performance straight out of the bag, what is more concerning is the quality of the foams. Most of the foam comfort layers have a noted “crunchiness” to them.

The individual foam layers don’t feel especially high quality when you handle them. Comfort foams that feel like this are common in older mattresses nearing the end of their life.
This typically results from the foams simply degrading over time due to use. All that to say, I am very concerned about long-term pressure relief performance due to the quality of these foams.
When I consider the material thickness, material quality, and my subjective experience on the mattress, I’m confident most sleepers will find the pressure relief to be good, but also not amazing.

How firm is Beautyrest Harmony Lux?
There are two main versions of this mattress—the Premier Anchor Island and the Exceptional Coral Island. And within these two versions, there are different firmness options.
Below we have provided a look at every firmness available with each version, as well as our estimated firmness (based on our tests and experiences).
Firmness Options: Premier Anchor Island
- Plush – 4 out of 10 firmness
- Plush Pillow Top – 4 out of 10 firmness
- Medium Pillow Top – 5 out of 10 firmness
- Firm – 7 out of 10 firmness
Firmness Options: Exceptional Coral Island
- Plush Pillow Top – 4 out of 10 firmness
- Medium – 5 out of 10 firmness
- Firm Pillow Top – 7 out of 10 firmness
- Extra Firm – 8 out of 10 firmness
For reference, we tested the Premier Anchor in the Medium Pillow Top firmness. In our tests, we found the firmness to be a 5 out of 10 and with a medium feel.

Support & Sleeping Positions
Support on the Beautyrest Harmony Lux is good. During our tests, I felt well-supported in all sleeping positions. The mattress is equipped with a 9.0″ support layer. This is 1.12″ thicker than the average support layer thickness of 7.88″, based on all of our tests to date.
In addition, the Harmony Lux uses a 6.0” comfort layer, which provides sufficient pressure relief and comfort. The mattress is available in 7 different firmness options, as well as being available with or without a pillow top.

All of these options are great, as it helps to ensure that you can find a firmness and feel that works well with your body and sleeping position. My only concern for support is with respect to durability.
As we discussed earlier, I just wasn’t impressed with the foam quality on the mattress.

In my view, these foams are likely to degrade relatively quickly, which could cause sagging and other discomfort issues, which will negatively impact support.
At the end of the day, this is a fairly expensive $1.4K mattress. In trying to hit that lower price point it appears that Beautyrest has made some sacrifices on material quality.

The Cover
The Beautyrest Harmony Lux has a plush 2.5″ quilted cover with infused cooling fibers. There is a soft blue, wave-like pattern to the surface with tufted stitching detailing.

There are also handles on the long sides of the mattress for easy moving or rotating of the mattress. Rotating your mattress every 6 months helps to extend the life of the mattress.
The Comfort Layer
The comfort layer is made of three layers of foam. Directly below the quilted cover, we see a 2.0” poly foam (white foam in the photo below), followed by a thinner 0.5” memory foam (blue foam). The last layer is a 1.0” poly foam (white foam) which has more of a transitional feel.

All three of these foams work together for pressure relief and comfort above the support layer.
The Support Layer
The support layer is made of 8.0” pocketed coils followed by a 1.0” support foam base below the coils.

The perimeter of the mattress has a 4.0″ thick foam that encircles the perimeter of the mattress. This foam helps to limit noise from the coils and also improves edge support when sitting or lying at or near the edge of the mattress.
Product Evolution
Beautyrest has been around since 1925. They began selling their first bed-in-a-box mattress in 2017.
They are a well-established company with one of the longest-standing company history. Beautyrest is owned by the parent company, Simmons.
