Best For
- Exceptional pressure relief with an extremely soft feel
- High profile (15″) aesthetic and natural materials
- Great cooling despite the deeper sinkage
Considerations
- High price is nearly 3X the cost of the average latex hybrid
- Very deep sinkage will not be right for all sleepers, especially back and stomach sleepers
- Higher levels of motion transfer, 23% more than average
Our Verdict
The Avocado Luxury mattress is a 15″ latex hybrid mattress made of latex foam, microcoils, and a pocketed coil base. It has a plush 2.0″ quilted cover, which gives the mattress a luxury look while retaining high-quality natural materials.
The Avocado Luxury is available in three firmness levels — Ultra Plush, Plush, and Medium. We tested the Plush version and found the firmness to be a 3 out of 10, giving the mattress an Extra Soft feel. I would estimate the Ultra Plush will also be a 3 out of 10, and the Medium would be closer to a 5 out of 10 firmness.
This mattress has very deep sinkage and moderate levels of bounce. The deeper sinkage makes the mattress great for side sleepers, but not as ideal for most back and stomach sleepers.
In our performance tests, this mattress earned an overall score of 8.77, ranking the mattress in the top 40% of all mattresses tested to date. But when we exclusively look at latex hybrids, that rank drops to the bottom 47%, with a below-average performance. Given the ultra-high price, the performance is a little disappointing.
The Avocado Luxury is $4,639 for a queen-sized mattress, which is 171% more than the average latex hybrid. If you’re exclusively looking for a high-profile soft latex hybrid, this could be a good pick, but it won’t be worth the cost for everyone.

How is Avocado Luxury Different?
The Avocado Luxury is a 15″ latex hybrid mattress with an overall performance level that is higher than average, but a price tag that is also considerably higher as well.

Advantages
Advantages of the Avocado Luxury include better cooling performance, faster material responsiveness, and exceptional pressure relief. The Avocado has a 7.0″ comfort layer thickness, 2.7″ thicker than the average comfort layer.
The total mattress thickness is 15″, which is also 2.8″ thicker than average. This extra material really helps the mattress to have fantastic pressure relief, especially for side sleepers.
Neutral Factors
This mattress has very deep sinkage and moderate levels of bounce.
The moderate level of bounce gives the Avocado Luxury a near-average sex performance, making that category a bit of a neutral factor as well.
Disadvantages
Disadvantages include higher levels of motion transfer, slightly worse edge support when sitting and / or lying, and, of course, the high price tag.
Priced at $4,639, the Avocado Luxury is 2.7X more expensive than the average latex hybrid. Unless you’re specifically looking for a high-profile soft latex hybrid, there are likely many other options you could consider that would save a considerable amount of cash.
Cooling Test
The Avocado Luxury has excellent cooling. During our tests, I did not feel any significant level of heat retention around my body. Even so, it’s clear that the mattress didn’t earn a 10/10 perfect cooling score either.
Baseline Temp.
78.1° F
Max. Temp.
91.1° F
Ending Temp.
81.1° F
The mattress benefits from the latex, microcoils, and pocketed coil support system. Latex as a material type just doesn’t absorb heat to the same degree as most poly foam and memory foams.
In addition, the layer of microcoils and pocketed coils are bringing extra airflow into the mattress, which is also helping to manage heat retention. That said, the extra-thick comfort layer and very deep sinkage level means there is a lot of material wrapping up and around the body.
Max. Temp.

Ending Temp.

- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
Sometimes mattresses with deeper sinkage or a softer feel can have difficulty in breathing. In my view, that’s exactly what’s going on with the Avocado Luxury and it’s at least in part inhibiting breathability and cooling performance.
In our objective temperature tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 91.1° F. This is 1.2° more than the average of 89.9° F, based on all of our tests to date.
Heat Dissipation Over Time

After getting off the mattress, the temperature declined by 6.1 degrees from minutes 0 to 1, which is 1.3 degrees cooler than the average 0 to 1 minute decline of 4.8 degrees.
When we consider the combination of objective data, my subjective experiences, and an analysis of the materials, I’m confident in my view that cooling is excellent.
Sinkage Test
The Avocado Luxury has very deep sinkage. During our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 2.81″. This is 0.60″ more sinkage than the average sinkage depth of 2.21″, based on all of our tests to date.
Sinkage Depth
2.81″
Sinkage Feel
Very Deep
The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

The mattress creates a balanced body contouring hug, despite the fact that it also has a very deep sinkage depth. This more balanced hug is the result of the mix of latex, wool, and microcoils.
The latex and wool in particular is in contrast to memory foam and many types of poly foam, which would typically create a dramatic and exacting hug at this softness and sinkage depth.
This is neither good nor bad, but it is a more specific feel. To be comfortable on the Avocado Luxury, you’ll want to really prefer the feel of latex with its more generalized body contouring hug, while also enjoying the deeper sinkage that the softer feel creates.
Motion Transfer Test
The Avocado Luxury has a moderate level of motion transfer. During our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 10.80 m/s². This is 24% more motion transfer than the average of 8.69 m/s².
Accel. Range
10.80 m/s²
Motion Duration
0.99 seconds
This is a fairly typical level of motion transfer for a latex hybrid. Latex naturally has more bounce and is highly responsive.
These attributes are great for ease of movement, but they also mean that energy and motion is more easily created and transferred across the mattress.
In addition, the very deep sinkage means that the body can come into closer contact with the pocketed coil unit, which can also contribute to the increased motion.
All that said, this mattress does help to mitigate some motion transfer by virtue of its incredibly thick 7.0” comfort layer. All of those extra materials are helping to keep motion held to a reasonable level.
The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.
In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.2 seconds.
Motion drops off thereafter and by 0.99 seconds, we’ve returned to near-zero levels of energy, which is 0.12 seconds longer than the average motion duration of 0.87 seconds.
Motion Transfer Over Time

All things considered, motion transfer is fine, but also far from amazing. Both motion intensity and motion duration were worse than average.
Response Test
The Avocado Luxury has an extremely fast material response. In our mostly recovered test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.2 seconds, which is 0.20 seconds faster than the average of 0.40 seconds, based on all of our tests to date.
Mostly Recovered
0.2 sec.
Fully Recovered
0.3 sec.
In our fully recovered responsiveness test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.3 seconds, which is 0.69 seconds faster than the average of 0.99 seconds. This is effectively an instant material response speed. This type of rapid responsiveness is typical for latex hybrids.
The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.
The Avocado Luxury is tied for 1st as the fastest responsiveness mattress we’ve tested to date with a number of other highly responsive mattresses.
The incredibly quick recovery speed ensures the mattress never creates any type of a stuck feel and is always easy to move around on and change positions. This is as good as it gets when it comes to responsiveness.
Bounce Test
The Avocado Luxury has a moderate level of bounce. During our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 8.60″. This is 0.30″ less bounce than the average of 8.90″, based on all of our tests to date.
Max. Depth
7.03″
Max. Rebound
1.57″
Total Bounce
8.60″
This mattress is a latex hybrid, meaning it’s built from latex and coils. Latex and coils individually create lots of bounce and we certainly see both of those materials contributing to the bounce.
However, the total bounce height is somewhat restrained due to the thick pillow top cover and softer feel of the mattress.
Max. Sinkage Depth

Max. Bounce Height

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.
When we look at the various material and design choices together, it’s not surprising to see bounce measures slightly below average.
That lower bounce is helping to keep motion transfer in check, but it also means that sex performance is slightly worse. So there are pros and cons to consider here.
Edge Support Test
The Avocado Luxury has good sitting edge support and good lying edge support.
Max. Sinkage
4.50″
Lying Support
Good
In our sitting edge support test, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 4.50″. This is 0.54″ more sitting sinkage than the average of 3.96″, based on all of our tests to date.
The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

While lying directly on the edge of the mattress, I felt that the support was good in all sleeping positions. On the positive side, the Avocado Luxury uses reinforced coils along the perimeter of the mattress. That’s certainly helping to improve edge support.
The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.

Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.

On the negative side of things, the mattress cover has a design that curves downward along the edge. This means the body lies at a slight angle when on the absolute edge, which creates a less-than-great support experience.
Beyond that, we have deeper sinkage, which just isn’t ideal for edge support. This isn’t really an issue with this mattress specifically, but rather any extra soft mattress.
Softer mattresses typically have more sinkage and that typically leads to worse edge support. All factors considered, edge support is good, but it also leaves something to be desired.
Sex Test
The Avocado Luxury has good sex performance. First up, let’s talk about what Avocado does best with minimal noise and outstanding pressure relief. Moving on, cooling and edge support earned good scores.
Edge measured at 4.50” of sitting edge sinkage. It’s good enough that the edge is a functional and usable part of the mattress, but it’s clear it could have been better also.

Last but not least, we have bounce. Bounce measured at 8.60”, which is slightly less bounce than average. When it comes to bounce more is almost always better for sex and ideally, I want to see 10” or more. Suffice to say, Avocado is well short of that.
Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
---|---|---|---|
Bounce | 65% | 7.9 | Moderate |
Edge Support | 20% | 8.1 | Good |
Noise | 5% | 10 | Minimal |
Pressure Relief | 5% | 10 | Outstanding |
Cooling | 5% | 9.0 | Excellent |
The softer feel, thicker comfort layer, and deeper sinkage are all acting as a suppressive force on bounce. All things considered, sex performance is good, but not great.
Pressure Relief Test
The Avocado Luxury has an outstanding level of pressure relief. During our tests, I felt no pressure points on my body. Quite to the contrary, the mattress is incredibly comfortable to lie on.
Comfort Layer
7″
Support Layer
8″
The Avocado Luxury has an extra soft feel and deeper sinkage without creating a dramatic hug around the body. Instead, we have a more balanced and restrained hug, attributes that we can thank the mix of latex foam, microcoils, and wool for. When it comes to material quality, I just don’t think it gets much better than this.
The mattress is equipped with 7.0″ of comfort material, which is 2.73″ more comfort material than the average comfort layer thickness of 4.27″, based on all of our tests to date.

We have high-quality wool, latex, silk, hemp, and cotton throughout the mattress. The mattress comfort layer and total profile height are notably thicker than average and all of that extra high-end material is a major driver of the outstanding pressure relief.
When it comes to pressure relief, it’s hard to imagine anything that could have improved it further. In our pressure mapping tests, we measured a max PSI of 0.81. Ideally, we want to see all PSI at 1.0 or below and the Avocado Luxury easily hits that mark.
Pressure Map – Side Sleepers

Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
---|---|---|
Side Sleepers | 0.15 | 0.79 |
Pressure Map – Back Sleepers

Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
---|---|---|
Back Sleepers | 0.08 | 0.81 |
Pressure Map – Stomach Sleepers

Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
---|---|---|
Stomach Sleepers | 0.08 | 0.58 |
When I consider our objective pressure mapping tests, material thickness, material quality, and my subjective experience on the mattress, I’m confident most sleepers will find the pressure relief to be outstanding.
Off-Gassing Test
The Avocado Luxury had a strong smell upon the initial arrival. The mattress smelled for 7 days. This is 0.2 days longer than the average smell duration of 6.8 days.
Initial Smell Strength
Strong
Off-Gassing Period
7 days
On day one of our smell test one of our testers (Kyle W.) remarked that the “mattress smelled like a barn”. I agreed that the smell was extremely strong the first few days, though I didn’t think it was quite as extreme as what Kyle experienced.

This mattress is absolutely packed with natural and organic materials, including wool, cotton, hemp, and latex.
While these materials don’t create the same type of chemical-based off-gassing smell that memory or poly foam will, they absolutely do have a strong smell and it took a week for that smell to fully go away.
Company
Avocado mattresses come with a 365-night trial period and a 25-year warranty. Shipping is $250. Returns are $99. Suffice to say, the high shipping cost and return cost are not ideal.
If there is a silver lining, it’s that the mattress ships with full-service delivery, meaning a team of two or three people will set the mattress up in your home and remove your old bed, if you prefer.
Company Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Data |
---|---|---|---|
Returns | 40% | 7.0 | $99 |
Trial Period | 30% | 10 | 365 nights |
Warranty | 20% | 10 | 25 years |
Shipping | 10% | 4.0 | $250 |
Country of Origin | 0% | USA |
Comparing 101+ brands tested to date, the average trial period is 171 nights, 194 nights less than Avocado offers.
The Avocado comes with a 25-year warranty, 12 years longer than the 14-year average warranty (considering all mattresses tested to date). In addition, 42% of mattresses offer lifetime warranties.

How firm is Avocado Luxury?
In our tests, we reviewed the Plush version, which I found to be a 3 out of 10 on our firmness scale, at this firmness I would rate the feel as Extra Soft.

This is arguably the softest mattress I’ve ever tested. It’s hard to imagine the ultra plush version somehow being even softer, though I fully expect it to be as soft.

Based on the design and materials used, I would estimate the Medium version of the Avocado Luxury is a 5 out of 10 on the firmness scale, which would rate at a Medium feel on our scale.
Support & Sleeping Positions
Support on the Avocado Luxury is outstanding. During our tests, I felt well supported in all sleeping positions. The mattress is equipped with an 8.0″ support layer.
This is 0.11″ thicker than the average support layer thickness of 7.89″, based on all of our tests to date.

The mattress is equipped with 7 support zones within the coil layer. This helps to provide the appropriate level of support for each respective part of the body. Zoned support helps resist sagging, improve support, and create better spinal alignment.
In addition, the pillow top version also uses zoned support via a contour-cut latex layer. Notably, the other versions of the mattress do not have this feature.
Moving on, the mattress is available in 3 firmness levels, which helps to increase the number of sleepers that this model can be a good fit for.
The plush and ultra plush are great for exclusive side sleepers or those who otherwise just love an extra soft feel. My only concern is making sure you choose the correct version for you. The plush version that we tested had very deep sinkage (and I expect the ultra plush would be at least as deep and possibly deeper).
That’s going to create a more polarizing sinkage depth that isn’t right for everyone. The medium version is going to be the best choice for most sleepers as it’s more balanced and less polarizing.
Check out the table below to see the sleeper weights and sleeping positions that would be best suited for this mattress.
Ultra Plush
Sleeper Weight | Stomach Sleeper | Side Sleeper | Back Sleeper |
---|---|---|---|
Under 150 lbs. | No | Yes | Maybe |
150-250 lbs. | No | Yes | Maybe |
250-300 lbs. | No | Yes | Maybe |

---|---|---|---|
Under 150 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
150-250 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
250-300 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
All factors considered, it’s hard to imagine any way that support performance could be improved. Performance, material quality, and design were all truly incredible.
Based on all of my tests to date, an analysis of the materials, and my subjective experiences, I’m confident that most sleepers will find support on the Avocado Luxury is outstanding.
Design
The Avocado Luxury is a 15″ latex hybrid mattress that comes in two firmness options—Extra Soft (we’re rating both the Plush and Ultra Plush at the same Extra Soft firmness level) and Medium. Keep in mind, the different firmnesses are also offered at significantly different prices and have a slightly different design.

The Cover
The Avocado Luxury has a plush 2.0″ pillowtop cover, if you opt for the Plush version. With the Medium version, this becomes a standard quilted cover. And if you go for the Ultra Plush, the cover will be 3.0″ thick.

The Comfort Layer
The comfort layer is 7.0″ thick, including the 2.0″ quilted cover. Beneath the cover, there are three foam layers that add up to another 5.0″ of material.
Directly below the cover, there is a 2.0” latex foam, followed by 1.0” microcoils, and then lastly, another 2.0” latex foam.
Concerning the microcoils, each coil is individually encased in a thin fabric, which allows them to move independently, improving pressure relief where it’s needed most.

The latex layers are GOLS-certified organic Dunlop latex, making this mattress an attractive choice for sleepers looking for an organic option.
The Support Layer
The support layer is 8″ thick and made of pocketed coils. Like the microcoils, these coils are individually encased so each coil can move independently.

Product Evolution
Avocado has been around since 2016 and originally launched with their two flagship models—Avocado Green and Avocado Eco. While these two mattresses have undergone minimal design changes, the brand released two ultra-luxury models in 2025.
The Avocado Luxury and Avocado Grand Luxe were released in 2025 as high-end options for sleepers wanting a more traditional pillowtop design with the most natural materials.
Since its release, there have been no major changes made to the Avocado Luxury mattress.
