Our Verdict
The Amerisleep AS6 Black mattress is a 13.5″ hybrid mattress (designed to be 15″ thick, but ours was a bit short of that). It has a thin cover, memory foam comfort layers, and a pocketed coil base.
This mattress is available in three firmness levels—Soft (4), Medium-Firm (6), or Firm (8). In our tests, we tested the luxury firm version.
The AS6 Black has moderate sinkage and very low levels of bounce. If you are really looking for the feel of classic memory foam, slower material response, less bounce, and deeper contour, the AS6 certainly hits the nail on the head.
In our performance tests, the AS6 Black earned an overall score of 8.81, ranking in the top 33% of all mattresses we’ve tested to date (over 300+ mattresses considered).
The AS6 Black is a luxury memory foam hybrid. It uses high-quality materials and has a high-profile aesthetic. As expected, this mattress also has a high price tag to go along with it—$2,649 for a queen mattress. This is 71% more than the average memory foam hybrid, but if you’re exclusively looking for a soft or firm memory foam hybrid, it could be money well spent.

How is Amerisleep AS6 Different?
The Amerisleep AS6 Black has higher performance than average while also having a higher price tag ($2,649), 70% more than the average memory foam hybrid ($1,553).
Advantages
Specific advantages to the AS6 Black include better cooling, low levels of motion transfer, and great edge support both for sitting or lying. The pressure relief on the AS6 is also exceptional and the varying firmness levels can be advantageous for sleepers with different needs and preferences.
Neutral Factors
This mattress has moderate sinkage and very low levels of bounce. These are considered neutral factors since different sleepers tend to have different opinions on what’s good and bad.
Disadvantages
Disadvantages include slow material responsiveness and a struggling sex score. The very low bounce doesn’t do any favors for intimacy. This mattress also has a trial period that is shorter than average. The average is 179 nights and Amerisleep only offers 100 nights to try it out.

Cooling Test
The Amerisleep AS6 Black has excellent cooling. During our tests, I did not feel any significant level of heat retention around my body.
Baseline Temp.
76.0° F
Max Temp.
90.3° F
Ending Temp.
79.7° F
Overall, I found the mattress comfortably cool. The mattress is equipped with a cooling cover. During our tests, I found the cover created a notably cool-to-the-touch feel.
While it does lose some of that cooling sensation the longer you lie in the same position, it still prevents heat build-up in the cover.
Max Temp.

Ending Temp

- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
The AS6 Black also uses high-quality foams with an open-cell design that avoids heat retention and breathes well. Lastly, the pocketed coil base helps bring airflow into the mattress.
In our objective temperature tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 90.3° F. This is 0.6° more than the average of 89.7° F, based on all of our tests to date.
After getting off the mattress the temperature declined by 5.9 degrees from minutes 0 to 1, which is 1.1° cooler than the average 0 to 1 minute decline of 4.8°.
Heat Dissipation Over Time

When we consider the combination of objective data, my subjective experiences, and an analysis of the materials, I’m confident in my view that cooling is excellent.
Sinkage Test
The Amerisleep AS6 Black has moderate sinkage. During our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 2.05″. This is 0.11″ less sinkage than the average sinkage depth of 2.16″, based on all of our tests to date.
Sinkage Depth
2.05″
Sinkage Feel
Moderate
The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

The mattress creates a dramatic hug around the body and sharply contours to your body’s precise shape. That said, the hug doesn’t feel overly enveloping due to the limited sinkage depth and reasonably fast responsiveness.
The mattress has a modern memory foam feel, meaning you get all of the hug, contour, and pressure relief of high-performance memory foam, while it still maintains good responsiveness and doesn’t create any type of a stuck feeling.
Motion Transfer Test
The Amerisleep AS6 Black has a very low level of motion transfer. During our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 7.29 m/s². This is 17% less motion transfer than the average of 8.73 m/s².
Max. Acceleration
3.77 m/s²
Min. Acceleration
-3.52 m/s²
Accel. Range
7.29 m/s²
The AS6 has many design and material choices that help it to reduce and manage motion. The hybrid design, lower-than-average bounce level, thick 4.5” foam comfort layer, high-density memory foam, and thin cover are all working together to keep motion lower.
The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.
Amerisleep’s line of memory and memory foam hybrids have historically done extremely well in our motion transfer tests, and the AS6 Black continues that trend.
In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.16 seconds. Motion declines significantly thereafter and by 1.08 seconds we return to near-zero levels of energy.

I will say, I was surprised at the higher-than-average motion duration. Typically, when motion intensity is lower, so is the motion duration. Even so, it’s hard to complain too much.
While the motion does persist for a bit longer than is ideal, the level of motion intensity is notably below average and I don’t expect it will be an issue for most sleepers.
Response Test
The Amerisleep AS6 Black has a slow mostly recovered response time and a very slow fully recovered response time. In our mostly recovered test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.8 seconds, which is 0.37 seconds slower than the average of 0.43 seconds, based on all of our tests to date.
Mostly Recovered
0.8 sec.
Complete Recovery
1.7 sec.
In our fully recovered responsiveness test, we measured a recovery speed of 1.7 seconds, which is 0.73 seconds slower than the average of 0.97 seconds. The mattress is equipped with 3.0” of memory foam.
The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.
It’s these memory foam layers that take an extra moment or two to recover back to their original shape. While the material responsiveness is far from ideal, it’s also not overly bad.
Memory foam as a material type can get extremely slow, with responsiveness speeds being in the 3-5 second range (including on super popular models like the Tempurpedic Pro Adapt).
In any case, to be comfortable on the AS6 Black you’ll want to be okay with a slower-than-average material responsiveness. The slower response time makes it slightly more difficult to move around on the mattress to change positions, get out of bed, and for amorous activities.
Bounce Test
The Amerisleep AS6 Black has a very low level of bounce. During our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 5.37″. This is 3.90″ less bounce than the average of 9.27″, based on all of our tests to date.
Max. Depth

Max Bounce Height

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.
The lower bounce is the result of the 3.0” of high-density memory foam and 4.5” of total foam comfort layers. Lower bounce is a double-edged sword for mattresses.
The lower bounce is a significant factor that keeps motion transfer lower. However, it also limits ease of movement and negatively impacts sex performance. At 5.37” of bounce, the AS6 Black is significantly lower than average. That lower bounce will certainly impact sex performance in a negative way.
Edge Support Test
The Amerisleep AS6 Black has excellent sitting edge support and excellent lying edge support.
Max Sinkage
3.25″
Lying Support
Outstanding
In our sitting edge support test, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 3.25″. This is 0.79″ less sitting sinkage than the average of 4.04″, based on all of our tests to date.
Even when I sat directly on the edge of the mattress I felt fully supported and there was no collapse of materials.
The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

Support while lying on the edge was even more impressive. While lying directly on the edge of the mattress I felt outstanding support and was fully supported in all sleeping positions.
When a mattress edge is as robust as this it greatly enhances sex performance, which we’ll discuss more in the next testing section. Overall, I am exceedingly pleased with the level of edge support performance.
The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.

Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.

Typically, memory foam hybrids struggle more with edge support compared to other types of mattresses. However, that’s not what we measured or experienced with the AS6 Hybrid.
The mattress is equipped with a robust edge support foam that is 4.0” wide and 8.0” tall. This foam, combined with the larger design and overall high-quality materials, is having a notable impact on edge support performance for both sitting and lying.
Sex Test
The Amerisleep AS6 Black has fair sex performance. On the positive side, noise is low, pressure relief is outstanding, and both edge support and cooling are excellent.
Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
---|---|---|---|
Bounce | 65% | 5.8 | Very Low |
Edge Support | 20% | 9.7 | Excellent |
Noise | 5% | 10 | Minimal |
Pressure Relief | 5% | 10 | Outstanding |
Cooling | 5% | 9.0 | Excellent |
The only notable weak spot is the bounce, which is within the very low range at 5.37”. At just 5.37” of bounce, the AS6 Black has a level of bounce that is considerably below average and is having a significant negative impact on amorous activities.

When a mattress has a lower bounce it’s harder to move around on and requires more work and effort for sex. While the mattress is incredibly comfortable for sex, the lower bounce greatly impacts sex performance and makes it more strenuous for amorous activities.
Pressure Relief Test
The Amerisleep AS6 Black has an outstanding level of pressure relief. During our tests, I felt no pressure points anywhere on my body. On the contrary, the mattress was exceedingly comfortable during all of our tests.
Comfort Layer
4.5″
Support Layer
9.0″
The mattress is equipped with 4.5″ of comfort material, including 3.0” of high-performance memory foam. The memory foam in particular feels incredible both on the body and in hand.
It looks and feels high quality and its density gives me great confidence in the longevity and durability of the mattress at large. The Amerisleep AS6 Black has 0.34″ more comfort material than the average comfort layer thickness of 4.16″, based on all of our tests to date.

That extra comfort material, combined with its relative quality, creates exceptionally good pressure relief and comfort.
In our pressure mapping tests, we measured a max PSI of 1.26. A PSI of 2.0 is considered a high pressure point and the AS6 Black stays well away from that level. When I consider the pressure mapping test, material thickness, material quality, and my subjective experience on the mattress, I’m confident most sleepers will find the pressure relief to be outstanding.
Pressure Map – Side Sleepers

Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |

Off-Gassing Test
The Amerisleep AS6 Black had a strong smell upon the initial unboxing. The mattress smelled for 5 days. This is 1.4 days less than the average smell duration of 6.4 days. The smell is a pretty typical memory foam type of smell.

Company
The Amerisleep AS6 Black comes with a 100-night trial period and a 20-year warranty. Shipping and returns are free as well.
Company Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Data |
---|---|---|---|
Trial Period | 15% | 8.0 | 100 nights |

Shipping | 5% | 10 | $0 |
Returns | 20% | 10 | $0 |
Trust | 50% | 9.0 | Excellent |
Country of Origin | 0% | USA |
Comparing the company policies of 89+ brands tested to date, the Amerisleep trial period is significantly shorter than the 179-night average trial. The 20-year warranty is longer than the 13-year average warranty, excluding 25% of mattresses that have lifetime warranties.
How firm is the AS6 Black?
The AS6 Black is available in 3 firmness options—plush soft, luxury firm, and firm.
Luxury Firm
In this review, we tested the Luxury Firm version. We found this mattress to be an 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale and have a firm feel.

Plush Soft
Based on the materials and design of the AS6, I would estimate the Plush version to be closer to a 4 out of 10 and with a soft feel.

Firm
And I would put the Firm version closer to an 8 out of 10, with a firm feel.

Support & Sleeping Positions
Support on the Amerisleep AS6 Black is outstanding. During our tests, I felt well-supported in all sleeping positions. The mattress is equipped with a 9.0″ support layer.
This is 1.12″ thicker than the average support layer thickness of 7.88″, based on all of our tests to date. The mattress has a proven material design with exceptionally high-quality materials at every level.

The thicker-than-average support layer creates ample support, while the thicker-than-average comfort layer creates ample pressure relief. The mattress is able to fully support the body, maintain neutral spinal alignment, and also provide more than adequate pressure relief and comfort.
In addition, having 3 different firmness options is great, as it provides additional choices based on individual sleeper preferences and needs.
Lastly, I was pleased with our pressure mapping tests. The max PSI measurements were all within acceptable ranges and the average PSI levels were all better than the average average PSI levels across all mattresses tested to date.
Based on all of my tests to date, an analysis of the materials, and my subjective experiences, I’m confident most sleepers will find support on the Amerisleep AS6 Black is outstanding.

Design
The AS6 Black is a 13.5″ memory foam hybrid mattress (it’s designed to be 15″, but ours was a good bit short of that at just 13.5″ thick). It comes available in three firmness levels—a soft version, a medium-firm version, and a firm version.

This collection is designed to be Amerisleep’s most luxurious feel and is also the highest-priced mattress style within Amerisleep.

Materials
The AS6 Black mattress uses a combination of foam and pocketed coils. According to the manufacturer, the AS6 Black is 15″ thick, but we measured this mattress at only 13.5″ thick.
From top to bottom, the layers include:
- 0.5” thin cover
- 2.0” memory foam
- 1.0” memory foam
- 0.5” poly foam
- 0.5” poly foam
- 8.0” pocketed coils
- 1.0” base support foam

The Law Tag outlines the full breakdown of materials included in this mattress.

The Cover
The cover of the AS6 Black is thin and has a cool-to-the-touch feel to it. There is also a diagonal line pattern stitched into the surface of the mattress.

The Comfort Layer
Beneath the cover, is the comfort layer. This layer is built up of 4 different layers of foam. On top, we see a 2.0” memory foam (black foam) followed by a 1.0” memory foam (blue foam).
Next is a dual layer of poly foam, two separate poy foam layers, both measuring 0.5″ thick.
Amerisleep designed this mattress to be 15″, but the AS6 we tested only measured 13.5″ thick.
Where did the extra 1.5″ of mattress go? I think these two thin layers compressed more than they should have, causing the mattress to lose some of its total height. I’ll also note here that the product page layer breakdown only shows 1 poly foam layer so I’m guessing at some point it was changed to 2 separate 0.5” layers.

The Support Layer
The support layer is made of 8.0″ pocketed coils followed by a 1.0″ support foam. In-line with the pocketed coils, there is also a perimeter foam for reinforced edge support. This foam is 4.0″ thick and is designed to limit motion transfer and improve support when sitting or lying at or near the edge of the mattress.

Product Evolution
Amerisleep’s AS6 Black mattress was originally launched towards the end of 2024 as another memory foam hybrid to add to their lineup. It entered the collection at the top of the price range for Amerisleep and having three firmness levels, it has the widest firmness range of any single mattress model at Amerisleep.
