Our Verdict
This comparison of DreamCloud vs. Purple looks at two well-known brands in the mattress market. DreamCloud focuses on hybrid, memory foam, and memory foam hybrids. Purple is more of a specialty brand, with all of its mattresses containing Purple’s patented Purple grid, a hyper-elastic polymer material that is within the comfort layer. Purple mattresses can have a foam base or a pocketed coil base, but all contain the Purple Grid.
Regarding firmness, all DreamCloud mattresses have a firmness between Medium (5) and Medium-Firm (6) and Purple mattresses range from Medium (5) to Medium-Firm (6.5). If you’re exclusively looking for a soft or firm mattress, neither of these brands will hit the target, but for medium to medium-firm, you certainly have some good options.
That being said, one brand has a considerably lower price than the other. The average DreamCloud mattress is only $1,387, while the average Purple mattress is over $800 more ($2,199 for a queen-sized Purple mattress).
DreamCloud also has the advantage of higher overall performance. The average DreamCloud performance score is 8.71 and the average Purple performance score is 8.31.
For better performance at a lower price, it’s hard to beat the value of a DreamCloud. But if you’re specifically looking for that patented Purple Grid, you’ll need to pay up to get it.

Which Mattress Should You Buy?
The mattresses earning the title for “best overall” from each brand have the highest overall performance. Overall performance is determined by scores from 8 different categories including cooling, motion transfer, response time, edge support, sex performance, pressure relief, off-gassing, and company.
Sinkage and bounce are also taken into consideration, but they are not direct scoring factors.
Between DreamCloud and Purple, the two top recommendations are DreamCloud Premier Hybrid and Purple.
Best Dreamcloud
DreamCloud Premier Hybrid

Type: Hybrid
Firmness: Medium-Firm (6)
The DreamCloud Premier Hybrid is a 13.5″ hybrid mattress made of memory foam, poly foam, pocketed coils, support foam, and it’s topped with a thick quilted cover. It has a medium-firm feel with moderate sinkage and low bounce. Its performance score places it within the top 16% of all mattresses tested to date. Aside from its 10/10 company score, it also excelled in having low motion transfer, fast response, and good edge support, making it a great option for sleepers of all sleeping positions and most body weights.
Best Purple
Purple

Type: Specialty
Firmness: Medium (5)
The Purple is a 9.5″ specialty mattress made with their special elastic polymer grid, two layers of poly foam, and topped with a thin knit cover. It has a medium feel with moderate sinkage and very high bounce. The Purple’s score is among the top 29% of all mattresses tested to date. It earned a 10/10 score for Cooling, Motion Transfer, and Response Time, making it a great option for sleepers of all sleeping positions and most body weights.
These two options are extremely different, as Purple’s design is unlike most companies.
One of the larger differences is the sheer amount of material between the Premier Hybrid and the Purple. The DreamCloud has an extra 4″ of material, which will certainly benefit heavier-weighted sleepers.
Another big difference is the use of a pocketed coil unit in the DreamCloud Premier Hybrid versus poly foam in the Purple. This is most largely demonstrated by the difference in edge support scores, as Purple’s foam simply doesn’t hold up at the edge, and we see a complete material collapse.
This brings us to the difference in overall score. Despite the Purple having more categories receiving 10 scores, it ultimately ended up the lower of the two due to poor performance in edge support and company.
This brings us to price. The DreamCloud Premier Hybrid is roughly $400 cheaper, and, when you factor in everything else, the Purple doesn’t look too favorable between these two. However, it does have top-tier cooling and pressure relief and a better sex score. If those are your biggest priorities, it may be worth it to you.

Firmness
Looking at all available mattresses we’ve tested, Dreamcloud mattresses range from 5 to 6 on the firmness scale, where 10 is the most firm, and Purple mattresses range from 5 to 6.5 out of 10.
Neither brand has a particularly wide range, but a medium (5) or medium-firm (6) feel is what’s most suitable for the vast majority of sleepers.
However, if you’re looking for a distinctly soft or firm mattress feel, you’ll have to search outside Dreamcloud and Purple lineups to find it.
Check the table below to see the details of each mattress.

Not sure which firmness you need? Your ideal mattress firmness depends on two major factors—sleeping position and body weight. With the right firmness, your body and spine will maintain proper alignment when sleeping.

Lightweight sleepers or those who sleep on their side tend to need a softer mattress. By comparison, heavier sleepers or those who sleep on their back or stomach tend to need more support and a firmer feel.

Cooling Test
When it comes to cooling performance, Purple comes out on top. In this 3v3 comparison, the Purple models averaged a cooling score of 9.3 out of 10. This is a solid notch above the average cooling score from DreamCloud of 8.7.
This is the difference between great and excellent performance.
Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding cooling.
| Cooling Test | Score | Baseline | Max. Temp. | Ending Temp. |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| DreamCloud Hybrid | 8.0 | 75.9° | 92.0° | 80.6° |

DreamCloud Hybrid
Purple
DreamCloud Luxe Hybrid
Purple Restore Plus
DreamCloud Premier Hybrid
Purple Restore Premier
The average cooling score across all mattresses tested to date is 8.60.
Their elastic grid is both resistant to heat buildup and highly breathable due to the open grid design. Furthermore, Purple mattresses tend to be much thinner compared to both the average and DreamCloud models. A thinner profile means less material to retain heat.
With all that in mind, it’s no wonder that the Purple was the best mattress in terms of cooling. That said, most of the mattresses in this comparison performed above that 8.6 average performance score.
The DreamCloud Hybrid was the lowest-performing mattress with an 8.0 score, most likely due to its 12.5″ thickness, memory foam in the top layer, and low price point.
Altogether, both brands perform well when it comes to cooling, but Purple edges out DreamCloud for having the best cooling performance.
Sinkage Test
For sinkage, DreamCloud tends to have deeper levels of sinkage compared to Purple. DreamCloud models average a sinkage depth of 2.27″, while Purple averages a depth of 2.02″.
This is not objectively good nor bad, but it can inform which mattresses offer one’s preferred feel and are most suitable for certain sleeping positions.
Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding sinkage.
| Bounce Test | Sinkage Feel | Sinkage Depth |
|---|---|---|
| DreamCloud Hybrid | Deep | 2.48″ |
| DreamCloud Luxe Hybrid | Moderate | 2.10″ |
| DreamCloud Premier Hybrid | Moderate | 2.24″ |
| Purple | Moderate | 2.24″ |

The level of sinkage for each mattress is documented in the images below.
DreamCloud Hybrid

Purple

DreamCloud Luxe Hybrid

Purple Restore Plus

DreamCloud Premier Hybrid

For reference, the average sinkage depth across all mattresses tested to date is 2.19″, which is moderate.
Back and stomach sleepers usually prefer less sinkage, which better maintains proper alignment of their spine. The DreamCloud Luxe Hybrid (2.1″), the Purple Restore Plus (1.99″), and the Purple Restore Premier (1.82″) all have less sinkage than average and are also a good balance of price and performance.
Generally, side sleepers enjoy a deeper level of sinkage, as that typically translates to better pressure relief and contour. For deeper sinkage, opt for the DreamCloud Hybrid (2.48″), DreamCloud Premier Hybrid (2.24″), and Purple (2.24″).
Motion Transfer Test
Next, we have motion transfer, which concerns anyone who shares a bed, and especially those with different schedules or who are prone to tossing and turning while sleeping.
Generally speaking, DreamCloud is far superior when it comes to motion transfer. Their mattresses’ average motion transfer score is 9.6 compared to Purple’s 8.0.
However, Purple has the best individual model when it comes to low motion transfer.
Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding motion transfer.
| Motion Transfer Test | Score | Acc. Range |
|---|---|---|
| DreamCloud Hybrid | 9.2 | 6.79 m/s² |
| DreamCloud Luxe Hybrid | 9.8 | 5.38 m/s² |
| DreamCloud Premier Hybrid | 9.7 | 5.71 m/s² |

DreamCloud Hybrid
Purple
DreamCloud Luxe Hybrid
Purple Restore Plus
DreamCloud Premier Hybrid
Purple Restore Premier
The average motion transfer score across all mattresses tested to date is 8.2.
Based on this, Purple’s brand average isn’t horrible, but it’s below our sitewide average. On the other hand, DreamCloud mattresses are exceptional, not only in this brand comparison but when compared to all mattresses we’ve ever tested.
Out of the Dreamcloud models, the Luxe Hybrid performed the best with a motion transfer score of 9.8 and a total acceleration range of 5.38 m/s². The DreamCloud Hybrid and Premier Hybrid were not far behind this either.
This is a performance category where greater material thickness and the inclusion of traditional memory foam layers are a major benefit.
Interestingly enough, the Purple mattress has the lowest motion transfer by a large margin. With a perfect 10 score and an acceleration range of only 2.23 m/s², this particular Purple model is doing something the others clearly aren’t.
Design-wise, the biggest difference is its use of an all-foam support layer under the elastic grid versus the use of a coil unit used on the two with much higher motion.
Ultimately, the Dreamcloud design makes it the more consistent choice for couples looking for low motion across the board.
Response Test
For response time, we see a clear separation between the two brands. Purple mattresses clearly take the win, but Dreamcloud’s scores are nothing to scoff at.
For Purple, every model earned a 10 out of 10, making for an average score of 10. Dreamcloud’s average response score was 9.2, with nearly identical measurements.
Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding response.
| Response Test | Score | Mostly Recovered | Completely Recovered |
|---|---|---|---|
| DreamCloud Hybrid | 9.3 | 0.3 seconds | 0.6 seconds |
| DreamCloud Luxe Hybrid | 8.9 | 0.4 seconds | 0.6 seconds |

DreamCloud Premier Hybrid
Purple Restore Premier
For reference, the average response score across all mattresses tested to date is 8.8. Compared to this, every model from DreamCloud and Purple performs above average for response.
Obviously, the Purple, the Purple Restore Plus, and the Purple Restore Premier were the fastest responding mattresses.
For DreamCloud, its fastest is tied between the DreamCloud Hybrid and the DreamCloud Premier Hybrid. While not at the same level as the Purple elastic grid, the memory foam Dreamcloud uses is incredibly fast.
In the end, both brands are highly responsive, and sleepers should have little worry of feeling slow or stuck on the mattress. But if you want the type of lively feel that comes from lightning-fast responsiveness, go with Purple.
Bounce Test
Next, let’s compare bounce. Here, we see a large difference between the two brands. Across the board, Purple mattresses offer much more bounce than DreamCloud.
Purple’s average bounce height in our test is 11.5″ (measured as the depth our weighted ball sinks into the mattress and the height of its rebound). DreamCloud’s average bounce height is 7.1″.
Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding bounce.
| Bounce Test | Bounce Feel | Bounce Height |
|---|---|---|
| DreamCloud Hybrid | Moderate | 9.05″ |
| DreamCloud Luxe Hybrid | Very Low | 4.90″ |
| DreamCloud Premier Hybrid | Low | 7.26″ |
| Purple | Very High | 12.79″ |
| Purple Restore Plus | Very High | 12.20″ |
| Purple Restore Premier | Moderate | 9.46″ |
The level of bounce for each mattress is documented in the videos below.
DreamCloud Hybrid
Purple
DreamCloud Luxe Hybrid
Purple Restore Plus
DreamCloud Premier Hybrid
Purple Restore Premier
The average bounce across all mattresses tested to date is 9.03″. This sitewide average divides the two brands fairly clearly. When looking at their brand averages, DreamCloud is significantly below this 9.03″ measurement, while Purple is significantly above it.
The Purple, Purple Restore Plus, Purple Restore Premier, and the DreamCloud Hybrid all have above-average bounce.
Mattresses with less bounce than average include the DreamCloud Premier Hybrid and the DreamCloud Luxe Hybrid.
Thick foam comfort layers, which were a benefit for DreamCloud when it came to achieving low motion transfer, also limit bounce.

This is why the DreamCloud Hybrid (3.5″ comfort layer) has the highest bounce within the brand and the DreamCloud Luxe Hybrid (5.0″ comfort layer) has the lowest.
Purple’s hyper-elastic grid, especially mixed with coil units, creates a ton of bounce.
Mattresses with more bounce are better for ease of movement and increase sex performance. However, higher bounce also typically creates a higher level of motion transfer. So there are pros and cons when it comes to bounce.
Edge Support Test
When it comes to edge support, DreamCloud appears to be the stronger brand when you compare averages. Within the mattresses listed in this comparison, DreamCloud has an average edge support score of 8.7, and Purple has an 8.3.
However, Purple’s score is a combination of two exceptionally high scores being brought down by one exceptionally low one.
Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding edge support.
| Edge Support Test | Score | Sitting Sinkage | Lying Support |
|---|---|---|---|
| DreamCloud Hybrid | 8.9 | 3.25″ | Good |
| DreamCloud Luxe Hybrid | 8.2 | 4.25″ | Good |
| DreamCloud Premier Hybrid | 9.1 | 3.75″ | Excellent |
| Purple | 5.1 | 7.75″ | Mediocre |

The level of edge support is documented in the images below.
DreamCloud Hybrid

Purple

DreamCloud Luxe Hybrid

Purple Restore Plus

DreamCloud Premier Hybrid

Purple Restore Premier

The average edge support score across all mattresses tested to date is 8.7.
The Purple Restore Plus and Purple Restore Premier are the two best mattresses in this comparison when it comes to edge support. Their design, which includes a coil unit and a reinforcing perimeter foam, is something the Purple Original doesn’t have.
From the image above, it’s clear that the Purple Original has a complete collapse when sitting at the edge.

On the other hand, the DreamCloud models all benefit from a coil unit as well. However, the quilted cover and top foam layers compress a little more compared to the perimeter foam used in the two best Purple models.
Ultimately, both DreamCloud and Purple have incorporated proven design elements to improve edge support, and most sleepers should be more than satisfied with sitting or lying on the edge of both brands (except the Purple Original).
Sex Test
When it comes to sex performance, Purple once again comes out on top, and by a huge margin.
Purple earned a brand average sex score of 9.2 over DreamCloud’s 7.7 score.
Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding sex.
| Sex Test | Sex Score | Bounce | Edge Support | Noise | Pressure Relief | Cooling |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| DreamCloud Hybrid | 8.5 | 8.1 | 9.7 | 10 | 8.0 | 8.0 |
| DreamCloud Luxe Hybrid | 6.7 | 5.5 | 8.4 | 10 | 9.0 | 9.0 |
| DreamCloud Premier Hybrid | 7.8 | 7.0 | 9.1 | 10 | 9.0 | 9.0 |
| Purple | 8.8 | 10 | 4.1 | 10 | 9.0 | 10 |
| Purple Restore Plus | 9.9 | 10 | 10 | 10 | 9.0 | 9.0 |
| Purple Restore Premier | 8.8 | 8.4 | 9.7 | 10 | 9.0 | 9.0 |
The average sex score across all mattresses tested to date is 8.2.
Bounce and edge support are the largest weighted factors in our sex formula, so it should be no surprise that the Purple models performed better. Noise, pressure relief, and cooling are among the other, less critical factors.
The Purple Restore Plus was the best model for sex with a near-perfect 9.9 score. On the other end, the DreamCloud Luxe Hybrid was the worst model with a 6.7 score.

The combination of the Purple hyper-elastic grid and pocketed coil unit is ideal for amorous activities.
With the largest score disparity within this comparison, Purple is the clear choice when it comes to sex.
Pressure Relief Test
When it comes to pressure relief, the mattresses in this comparison are incredibly close, but Purple takes the win over DreamCloud.
Purple mattresses averaged a 9.0 pressure relief score compared to DreamCloud’s 8.7 score. However, no model in this 3v3 comparison earned higher than a 9.0.
Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding pressure relief.
| Pressure Relief Test | Score | Comfort Layer | Support Layer |
|---|---|---|---|
| DreamCloud Hybrid | 8.0 | 3.50″ | 9.00″ |
| DreamCloud Luxe Hybrid | 9.0 | 5.00″ | 9.00″ |
| DreamCloud Premier Hybrid | 9.0 | 4.50″ | 9.00″ |
| Purple | 9.0 | 5.50″ | 4.00″ |
| Purple Restore Plus | 9.0 | 5.00″ | 8.00″ |
| Purple Restore Premier | 9.0 | 3.00″ | 10.00″ |
The average pressure relief score across all mattresses tested to date is 8.6. By this measure, the Purple Original, Purple Restore Plus, and Purple Restore Premier all have above-average pressure relief. The DreamCloud Premier Hybrid and Luxe Hybrid also performed at this same level.
DreamCloud Hybrid

Purple

DreamCloud Luxe Hybrid

Purple Restore Plus

DreamCloud Premier Hybrid

Purple Restore Premier

The DreamCloud Hybrid is the least expensive model among these 6, and it has the thinnest comfort layer among the DreamClouds. So I’m not surprised it had the lowest pressure relief score.

Despite thicker comfort layers and Purple’s fancy elastic grid, the other models failed to perform better than a 9.0. In the case of the thickest mattress, the DreamCloud Luxe Hybrid, we cited that the 2.00″ poly foam layer held it back from achieving a better feel.
Overall, thickness does typically correlate to better pressure relief performance, but specialty mattresses like Purple can be exceptions to this rule. We see that the Purple Original (9.5″ height) scored a 9.0, compared to the rest of the thicker models.

Ultimately, the Purple grid is an efficient comfort material, but it never quite achieves 10/10 pressure relief. With DreamCloud, value constraints seem to hold them back to a similar, excellent level. If we peek outside these 6 models, we see that the two most expensive DreamCloud (Ultra series) models both have 10/10 scores.
But make no mistake, both of these brands know how to produce excellent pressure relief.
Off-Gassing Test
When it comes to the initial smell after unboxing these mattresses, DreamCloud takes the win.
DreamCloud mattresses have a consistent smell duration of 7 days across the board. This gives DreamCloud an average off-gassing score of 8.1. Purple mattresses ranged from 4 to 26 days, and this gave them an average off-gassing score of 6.3.
The standout model here is the Purple Restore Premier, which lasted for a full 26 days before fully dissipating lingering smells.
Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding off-gassing.
| Smell Test | Score | Initial Smell | Smell Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| DreamCloud Hybrid | 8.1 | Strong | 7 days |
| DreamCloud Luxe Hybrid | 8.1 | Strong | 7 days |
| DreamCloud Premier Hybrid | 8.1 | Strong | 7 days |
| Purple | 8.9 | Strong | 4 days |
| Purple Restore Plus | 7.2 | Strong | 10 days |
| Purple Restore Premier | 2.8 | Strong | 26 days |
The average smell duration across all mattresses tested to date is 6.7.
So DreamCloud just barely hits above this mark. Not ideal, but also not the worst thing to be right about average.

This also means that the Purple Original is the mattress with the quickest smell duration.
In the end, the only model that really might affect your decision-making is the Purple Restore Premier, as 26 days is pretty excessive. Otherwise, most people shouldn’t struggle with some lingering smell for 10 or fewer days.
Company
At last, least discuss company policies. Here we see night and day differences between these two brands.
DreamCloud has substantially more consumer-friendly policies compared to Purple. They have a trial period that lasts 365 nights. They offer a lifetime warranty. Finally, shipping and returns are both free.
Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding company policies.
| Company | DreamCloud | Purple |
|---|---|---|
| Score | 10 | 7.2 |
| Trial Period | 365 nights | 100 nights |
| Warranty | Lifetime | 10 years |
| Shipping | $0 | $0 |
| Returns | $0 | $150 – 350 |
| Country of Origin | USA | USA |
Purple’s policies, on the other hand, are worse in nearly every way. They do offer free shipping, but from there, they have a much shorter trial period of 100 nights. Their warranty is only 10 years. And finally, they charge a fee if you take them up on a return.

The fee depends on the model and can be anywhere from $150 – $250 (even $350 for the Rejuvenate line, which we haven’t tested). And what’s worse is that this isn’t a holdover from a previous era, before online shopping almost universally adopted free shipping and returns. They just implemented this change in 2025.
To date, we have tested 377+ mattresses from 102 different brands. The average trial length is 173 nights and the average warranty is 14 years, excluding 42% of mattresses that offer lifetime warranties.

Furthermore, 77% of mattresses come with free returns as long as you are within the trial period window. So not only is it fair to call a return fee uncommon, but a fee of $150 – $350 is on the pricier side at that.
