Avocado uses mostly organic or natural ingredients, such as organic wool, organic cotton, and / or organic latex. Actual materials and thickness vary depending on exactly which Avocado mattress you’re looking at.
In general, here is an overview of the materials Avocado uses for cotton, latex, wool, and pocketed coils.
- Cotton: GOTS-certified organic cotton.
- Organic Wool: GOTS-certified organic wool, sourced from their own sheep herds in the Himalayas
- Organic Latex: GOLS-certified organic Dunlop latex
- Natural Latex: Talalay latex used in luxury models
- Steel: Recycled and double-tempered steel
Many of these materials breathe better than their synthetic counterparts and do not have an offensive smell, which is common in polyurethane foam.
Most Popular Avocado Mattresses
Here at the NapLab, we have tested seven of the Avocado mattresses, including their most popular models – the Avocado Green and the Avocado Eco.
The Avocado Green mattress is an organic latex mattress made of organic wool, organic natural latex, organic cotton, and a pocketed coil support system. The Standard and Pillowtop versions (which we’ve tested firsthand) both use certified organic Dunlop latex.
However, the newer Box-Top upgrade adds a layer of natural (but not organic) Talalay latex.

The Avocado Eco mattress has a 10″ profile that includes organic cotton, organic wool, natural latex, and a pocketed coil support system.

Specialty Avocado Models
Avocado has a handful of specialty mattress models that include:
- Avocado Extra Firm mattress – rated at a 9 out of 10 firmness and uses coconut husk fiber pads in between thick pocketed coil springs
- Avocado Wool – latex-free. Just a coil unit, wool, and a cotton cover
- Avocado Vegan mattress – their classic latex hybrid design without full to be certified vegan
- Organic Latex – pure latex foam design with no innerspring coil unit
These options demonstrate a commitment from Avocado to provide suitable options for even the most fringe preferences.
