Is The Casper Mattress Toxic?

Derek Hales

Updated

No, Casper mattresses are generally considered non-toxic. The company uses OEKO-TEX-certified mattress covers and CertiPUR-US-certified foams, which are safe for human health.

However, some Casper mattresses use continuous filament fiberglass as a fire barrier. This compound can pose health risks if it leaks outside of the mattress.

Based on our chat’s with Casper’s customer support, the following Casper mattresses include fiberglass:

  • Casper Original
  • Casper Original Hybrid
  • Casper Nova Hybrid

The following Casper mattresses do not include fiberglass:

  • Casper Wave Hybrid
  • Casper Wave Snow Hybrid
Casper Wave Hybrid Relaxing
Casper Wave Hybrid Relaxing

CertiPUR-US certified foams are low in VOCs (volatile organic compounds) and contain none of the following:

  • Ozone depleters
  • Tris flame retardants
  • Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs)
  • Heavy metals
  • Phthalates
  • Formaldehyde

OEKO-TEX-certified fabrics are tested for chlorinated benzenes, PAHs (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons), solvent residues, and other harmful substances. Therefore, they meet specific safety standards and are considered safe.
