Each best list is put through a customized performance analysis with specialized consideration given to our objective & data-driven performance tests. In addition, we consider mattress type, design, materials, value, price, and more.

Performance Testing Factors
Performance Testing Factors

For our Best Mattress for Stomach Sleepers list, we based our selections on the best-scoring mattresses, according to our battery of testing and formulaic-driven scoring.

Our tests analyze performance across 8 critical factors, including cooling, motion transfer, response time, edge support, sex, pressure relief, off-gassing, and company. In addition, we also test sinkage and bounce (though these are not scoring factors).

Our tests include objective and quantifiable data whenever possible. In addition, we use subjective assessment supported by data to round out our testing process.

Our scores are based on mathematical formulas and equations that utilize inputs from our data-driven testing.

You can see our complete testing and scoring process here.

In choosing the best mattresses for stomach sleepers we looked at the totality of all of our tests, scores, data, and reviews to date. We analyzed this data alongside our established best mattress framework here.

In addition to achieving a high-performance score, all mattresses on this list have a medium-firm feel and have a design that is ideal for stomach sleepers.

When selecting the best mattress for stomach sleepers, we’re looking at a combination of overall scoring performance, firmness, and US availability.

To be included within this list all mattresses:

  • Had to have a firmness of 6-6.5 out of 10, where 10 is the most firm. This firmness is the ideal range to maintain spinal alignment when sleeping on your stomach.
  • Had to have a performance score of 9.12 or higher.
  • Had to be available for purchase within the USA.
  • Latex and latex hybrid mattresses were limited to the top pick by score. Latex has a polarizing feel that some love and some hate. It’s a far more polarizing feel than poly foam or memory foam. See our best latex mattresses list for more.

Outliers that met the criteria above, but were still excluded for other various reasons are listed below.

Best For

  • Great value, amazing high performance with value price ($1499)
  • Deep-contouring pillowtop, while maintaining support
  • Exceptional edge support when seated or lying at or near the edge

Considerations

  • Deep sinkage (2.38″) may not be ideal for all sleepers
  • Returns are free, but exchanges cost $49
  • Moderate bounce is good for sex, but not great

Our Verdict

The WinkBed is a hybrid mattress that is 14″ thick and has amazingly high overall performance. The mattress is made of gel foam, poly foam, and a pocketed coil base. It has a quilted Euro cover and a plush feel.

The Winkbed mattress comes in three firmness options—softer (4), luxury firm (6), and firmer (7), where 10 is the most firm. For stomach sleepers, I would recommend the Luxury Firm version (6 out of 10).

This mattress has deep sinkage and moderate levels of bounce. The deep sinkage gives it more contour while still having great support for stomach sleepers.

With the medium-firm option, a stomach sleeper can achieve neutral spinal alignment while still enjoying the comfort of the quilted cover and gel foam layer. In the same vein, the sinkage level is not drastic enough to throw this alignment off either. While technically considered “deep”, it’s closer to the moderate end. Finally, the coil unit is zoned and made of pocketed coils. This design allows the coils to move independently of each other and provide extra support where it’s needed.

In our tests, the Winkbed earned an overall score of 9.82 overall, which ranks it as the #1 best mattress we’ve tested to date, as well as the best hybrid we’ve tested.

For a queen mattress, the Winkbed is $1,499, 7% more expensive than the average hybrid mattress. Despite the slightly higher cost, it’s important to note that you’re getting a significantly higher-performing mattress than average.

Best For

  • Extremely low levels of motion transfer, while retaining high levels of bounce
  • Minimal sinkage and a more generalized contour
  • Natural materials—3.0″ natural latex comfort layer

Considerations

  • Not all sleepers enjoy the feel of latex foam (minimal sinkage)
  • $99 to return the mattress
  • Price ($2,095) is 35% more expensive than the average latex hybrid mattress

Our Verdict

The Saatva Latex Hybrid is a latex hybrid mattress with a plush quilted cover, a natural latex comfort layer, and a pocketed coil base for support. Being a latex hybrid, this mattress is known for a more generalized contour that can be beneficial for stomach sleepers.

The Saatva Latex Hybrid is available in a single firmness which comes in at a 6.5 out of 10, giving the mattress a medium-firm feel. For stomach sleepers, this firmness is that sweet spot of support and comfort.

It has minimal sinkage when lying on the mattress and a high level of bounce. This gives the mattress an active feel without too much give in the materials.

Stomach sleepers can benefit from the Saatva Latex Hybrid for many reasons. The latex foam offers 5 distinct zones that offer more or less support where bodies would need it. This allows for optimal spinal alignment, especially for stomach sleeping. Minimal sinkage also works toward this end and helps maintain that neutral spinal alignment when sleeping on your stomach. If you’re a stomach sleeper who prefers increased support and less sinkage for the belly / lower back, then the Saatva Latex Hybrid is a perfect choice.

In our performance tests, this mattress earned an overall score of 9.48, ranking the mattress in the top 2% of all mattresses tested to date and the #1 best latex hybrid mattress tested to date.

The high performance does come at a higher cost of $2,095 (for a queen). This is 35% more expensive than the average latex hybrid, but if you have the budget for it, the Saatva performs significantly higher than average so it’s still a great value.

Best For

  • Exceptionally good cooling
  • Higher levels of bounce
  • Fantastic pressure relief, despite only having an 11″ thickness

Considerations

  • Lacks edge support when seated directly at the edge of the mattress
  • Very high bounce may not be ideal for all sleepers
  • Shorter 100-night trial period (77 nights less than average)

Our Verdict

The Leesa Sapira is a hybrid mattress made of poly foam, memory foam, support foam, and a pocketed coil base. It is 11″ thick, 1″ thinner than average, but has fantastic performance overall.

The Sapira Hybrid is available in a single firmness, medium-firm, which has a feel of 6 out of 10 on our firmness scale. This firmness is suitable for many different types of sleepers.

The Sapira Hybrid has moderate levels of sinkage and very high levels of bounce. The high bounce gives the Sapira an active feel while still maintaining low levels of motion transfer.

Stomach sleepers, in particular, will enjoy this firmness level as it creates the right amount of pushback. The moderate sinkage from the high-quality yet limited memory foam layer also works to ensure proper spinal alignment. The transitional poly foam layer also goes a long way to limiting heavier body parts from directly feeling the pocketed coil unit within the support layer.

In our performance score, the Sapira Hybrid earned an overall score of 9.50 overall, which ranks it among the top 2% of all mattresses tested to date.

For a queen mattress, the Sapira Hybrid is $1,599, 13% more expensive than the average hybrid mattress. Despite the higher cost, the Sapira provides a fantastic value and a great mattress for stomach sleepers.

Best For

  • Excellent cooling performance, 10/10 perfect score
  • Exceptional pressure relief with a 4.25″ comfort layer and three available firmnesses
  • Balanced feel with moderate sinkage and bounce

Considerations

  • 3% higher levels of motion transfer compared to average
  • 120-night trial period is slightly shorter than average (177-night average)
  • Costs 20% more than the average hybrid mattress

Our Verdict

The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe is a 13.25″ hybrid made of a quilted cover, poly foam, pocketed coils, and a support foam base.

This mattress comes in three firmness levels—soft (4), medium-firm (6), and firm (8). Heavier-weighted stomach sleepers may do better with the firm while light to moderate-weight stomach sleepers will likely prefer the medium-firm.

The Aurora Luxe mattress has moderate levels of sinkage and a moderate degree of bounce. This gives the mattress a balanced feel that suits a wider range of sleepers.

The balanced feel, combined with the firmness options available, can make for a fantastic stomach sleeping experience. The mattress is also zoned, like many other mattresses on this list. This allows for the middle of the mattress, which supports the hips and belly, to have more pushback, while the upper and lower body can enjoy more comfort and pressure relief. This is ideal for stomach sleepers as it helps bring the spine into a more neutral alignment.

In our performance tests, the Aurora Luxe Hybrid earned an overall score of 9.33, which ranks it in the top 5% of all mattresses tested to date. Looking specifically at hybrids, the Aurora Luxe is within the top 4%.

However, with higher performance comes (usually) a higher price tag. A queen-sized Aurora Luxe costs $1,699, 20% more than the average hybrid mattress, or about $280 more. Given its fantastic performance, the Aurora Luxe is a great option for stomach sleepers.

Best For

  • Great pressure relief and a moderate level of sinkage
  • Low levels of motion transfer, 34% less than average
  • Excellent value—7% less than the average memory foam hybrid while providing significantly higher performance

Considerations

  • Lower levels of bounce contribute to lower sex score than average
  • Fully-recovered response time is slightly slower than average
  • Cooling is excellent, but didn’t earn a 10/10

Our Verdict

The Glacier Apex is a high-profile, 14.25″ memory foam hybrid mattress made of copper memory foam, memory foam, transitional poly foam, and a pocketed coil base. It is topped by a plush 1.25″ pillowtop cover for added softness.

This mattress is available in one firmness, 6 out of 10, with a medium-firm feel. For stomach sleepers, this firmness is still at that ideal balance of support and comfort, maintaining spinal alignment when sleeping on your belly.

The Apex has moderate sinkage and a low level of bounce. The low bounce is undoubtedly due to the memory foam comfort layer, which is known to limit motion transfer and bounce.

The Apex also uses zoning in its comfort material layers to create more pushback where it’s needed for stomach sleeping. The moderate sinkage it offers helps to promote proper spinal alignment when lying on your stomach. So, while the coil unit may not be zoned, the moderate sinkage and zoned foam layers achieve the same effect and creating great stomach sleeping support.

In our performance tests, the Apex earned an overall score of 9.27, ranking the mattress in the top 7% of all mattresses tested to date. Looking exclusively at memory foam hybrids, the Apex is the #1 best memory foam hybrid we’ve tested to date.

Considering price, the Glacier Apex costs $1,399, 7% less expensive than the average memory foam hybrid, a savings of $113 for a queen mattress. This makes the Apex a fantastic value all around.

  • Very low levels of motion transfer, 56% less than the average mattress
  • Excellent cooling performance with phase-change cover
  • Great pressure relief with 5.0″ comfort layer

Considerations

  • Sitting edge support is less than ideal (4.75″)
  • High levels of bounce may not be ideal for all sleepers
  • Slower material responsiveness, likely due to the memory foam comfort layers

Our Verdict

The Bear Elite Hybrid is a 14″ hybrid mattress with a plush 2.0″ quilted cover, copper memory foam, transitional poly foam, pocketed coil supports, and a thin support foam base.

This mattress comes in three firmness levels—soft (4.5), medium-firm (6), or slightly firm (7.5). For stomach sleepers, I would recommend the medium-firm version for most, except for heavier-weighted sleepers who I would recommend the firm version.

Sinkage levels were moderate in our tests and bounce levels were high. This mattress has a nice level of contour without the added sinkage that sometimes comes with memory foam.

Again, we see the tried and true combination of appealing features—the right firmness options, moderate sinkage, and quality comfort foams with a transitional poly foam layer. All of these attributescome together to create an optimal stomach sleeping experience. Furthermore, the Bear Elite also has a 5-zoned coil unit, help to improve spinal alignment and pressure relief.

In our performance tests, the Elite Hybrid has a fantastic overall score of 9.24, which ranks it in the top 9% among all mattresses we’ve tested to date.

The Bear Elite Hybrid costs $1,614 for a queen mattress, 17% more expensive than the average mattress. Looking exclusively at memory foam hybrids, that is 18% more expensive than the average hybrid. But remember the performance is also significantly better than the average mattress, making the Bear Elite a great value for stomach sleepers to consider.

  • Great cooling when sleeping on your stomach

Considerations

  • Takes 15 days to off-gas, about 2X the average length of time
  • High bounce may not be ideal for all sleepers
  • Priced 34% more than the average hybrid

Our Verdict

The Helix Midnight Luxe is a 13.5″ hybrid mattress that has a quilted cover followed by a comfort layer of copper memory foam, poly foam, and a pocketed coil base.

This mattress is available in one firmness level, 6 out of 10, which gives the mattress a medium-firm feel.

Sinkage levels are moderate and bounce is high on the Midnight Luxe.

The Midnight Luxe includes these same design features as many others on this list. The memory foam and poly foam layers provide the right amount of sinkage to allow stomach sleepers the optimal sleeping experience. The plush quilted cover with the dense foam layers strikes the right balance of comfort and support for the position as well.

In our performance tests, the Midnight Luxe earned an overall score of 9.14, which ranks it in the top 15% of all mattresses we’ve tested to date.

Priced at $1,899 for a queen, the Helix Midnight Luxe costs 34% more than the average hybrid mattress. But bear in mind, that it also offers significantly better performance than the average score of 8.54, making the Luxe a solid value.
