Mattress Brands Tested To Date

The best mattress for sex will always have 3 critical attributes.

Bounce – First and foremost, the mattress needs to have a high level of bounce. Without enough bounce sex simply becomes more strenuous and difficult.

Edge support – In addition, the mattress needs robust edge support. Weak edge support reduces the effective surface area for your amorous activities.

Comfort & Sleep Performance – Last but not least, the mattress must be comfortable. All the bounce and edge support in the world doesn’t do much if the surface of the mattress doesn’t relieve pressure and create comfort. After your amorous activities conclude you still want a mattress that is as amazing for sleep as it is for sex.

How We Test for Sex

We have developed a series of sex tests that assess bounce, edge support, noise, pressure relief, and cooling.

Sex Test Factor Weights

Bounce (65% weight) and edge support (20% weight) are the most critical factors, accounting for 85% of the weighted sex score.

Bounce Test

Edge Support Test

Nolah Evolution 15 edge support

If a mattress has a high level of bounce and great edge support it will almost certainly perform fantastically well for sex.

You can read more about our sex scoring and testing processes here.

How We Test for Overall Performance

The best mattresses for sex maintain an overall performance score of 9.26 or higher and include a range of prices, mattress types, firmnesses, and feels. This overall score is developed using a series of 8 performance tests.

Performance Categories

Our tests analyze performance across 8 critical factors—cooling, motion transfer, response time, edge support, sex, pressure relief, off-gassing, and company. In addition, we also test sinkage and bounce (though these are not scoring factors as they tend to be preferential “feel factors”).

Our tests include objective and quantifiable data whenever possible. In addition, we use subjective assessment supported by data to round out our testing process.

Our scores are based on mathematical formulas and equations that utilize inputs from our data-driven testing.

You can see our complete testing and scoring process here.

In choosing the best mattress for sex, we looked at the totality of all of our tests, scores, data, and reviews to date. We analyzed this data alongside our established best mattress framework here.

In addition to achieving a high-performance score, all mattresses on this list had to have a fantastic sex performance score. We rate mattresses for sex using a weighted scale with 5 different factors. You can see the specifics on our sex tests and sex scoring here.

To be included as a best mattress for sex the mattress needed to meet the following criteria:

  • Mattress must have a sex score at or above 9.1
  • Mattress must have an overall performance score at or above 9.26
  • Mattress must be available for purchase within the USA

Best Mattress for Sex – Overall

The #1 best mattress for sex is a high bar. The mattress that earned our overall pick needed to be an extraordinary performer for both sleep and sex.

In our tests, the Winkbed earned the highest score we’ve ever given, a 9.82 / 10 for its overall performance. In addition, it also earned a 9.1 / 10 for sex. Winkbed’s hybrid design, thicker-than-average total profile, and high-quality material layers allow it to deliver above-average levels of bounce and is among the best edge support we’ve ever tested.

This combination of factors earned it significantly better than average scores for both sex and overall performance.

Best For

  • Incredible overall performance for sleep and comfort. The #1 ranked mattress we’ve tested.
  • Incredible edge support with just 2.25″ of sitting sinkage compression
  • Nearly 10″ of total bounce height, which is notably more than average.

Considerations

  • Will cost you $49 if you want to make an exchange. However, returns are free.
  • 14″ total profile can make for a very tall height with some mattress foundations

Our Verdict

What makes this a best mattress for sex?

When it comes to sex performance, nothing can be more important for the best mattress for sex than high bounce and robust edge support. Winkbed has both, measuring 9.91″ of bounce, which is 0.40″ more bounce than the average of 9.51″ (based on all of our tests to date).

Edge support measured at just 2.25″ of sitting sinkage compression, which is 1.79″ less sitting sinkage than the average of 4.04″. This incredibly supportive edge and high bounce ensure maximum sexable surface area and a bouncy mattress that works with couples and not against them.

When you couple this with great comfort delivered from exceptional pressure relief and exceptionally good cooling, you have all the material and design conditions that make the Winkbed a “best mattress for sex” winner.

What makes this a great mattress for overall comfort and sleep?

The Winkbed is a hybrid mattress consisting of a pocketed coil unit, poly foam, gel foam, and a euro top cover. The mattress is also quite tall at 14.0″.

The mattress has a deep sinkage with 2.38″ of pressure point sinkage. This is 0.23″ more sinkage than average. In addition, the moderate level of bounce at 9.91″ is more than average and helps make it easier to move around on the mattress. During our tests, we found the Winkbed created an incredibly balanced and even feel. It’s a cool mattress with tons of pressure relief.

With 3 firmness levels, it’s got a comfort dynamic that can be well-liked by many different types of sleepers and sleeping positions. Winkbed comes in softer, luxury firm (aka medium-firm), and a firmer feel. In addition, Winkbed also offers the Winkbed Plus for heavier-weighted bodies.

In our tests, the Winkbed earned a 9.82 overall score. This ranks it as the #1 best mattress we’ve tested to date. It is truly an exceptional performer and an exceptional value for the money.

A Queen size is $1,499. This is 15% more expensive than the average hybrid mattress, based on all of our tests. Even so, given the performance relative to the price, it’s hard to complain too much.

Best Mattress for Sex – Coils

Coil and spring mattresses often perform well for sex, as metal springs by their nature are able to deliver a high level of bounce. Especially when you compare it to the level of bounce most types of foam can create. Even so, not all coil mattresses are created equal.

The types of foams that sit atop the coil unit, the quality of said coil unit, number of coils, and coil gauge all impact the performance level for both sleep and sex. The mattress that earned our best mattress for sex pick for the coil category brings together great build quality, material quality, and mattress design to deliver significantly higher than average bounce, better than average edge support, and the #2 best overall score any mattress has earned (9.74 / 10).

  • Coil-on-coil construction provides exceptional cooling
  • Extremely high levels of bounce is great for sex performance

Considerations

  • $99 return fee if you need a refund
  • Price is higher than the average coil mattress by 41%
  • Material response time is slightly slower than average

Our Verdict

What makes this a best mattress for sex?

The Saatva Classic is one of our top picks for best mattress for sex for a lot of the same reasons the Winkbed is a winner—primarily bounce and edge support.

This mattress has extremely high levels of bounce, which is a huge advantage in this category. In our tests, we measured 14.67″ of bounce, significantly more than average and also 48% more bounce than the Winkbed.

The double coil construction really helps to generate that deep, engaging bounce level that facilitates good sex performance and makes Saatva a fantastic option.

Edge support sinkage is 3.0″ when seated directly at the edge of the mattress. This is very supportive and significantly better than average (4.04″).

What makes this a great mattress for overall comfort and sleep?

The Saatva Classic is a coil-on-coil mattress that is available in 11.5″ or 14.5″ heights, depending on your personal preference (note: the price is the same for both thicknesses). It has two layers of coils combined with a thin layer of comfort foam and a plush Euro-top.

This mattress has deep sinkage and extremely high levels of bounce. In addition, it creates a more traditional coil mattress feel.

The Saatva is available in three firmness levels—Plush Soft (4), Luxury Firm (6), or Firm (8), where 10 is the most firm.

The overall performance score of this mattress is 9.74, leading it to be the #1 coil mattress of all mattresses tested to date. Comparing Saatva to 270+ mattresses tested, this mattress earned a score within the top 1%.

A queen-sized Saatva Classic is $1,795. Comparing all other mattresses tested, the average price is $1,373. This puts the Saatva 31% higher than average. While the Saatva is far from a cheap mattress, it remains a fantastic value given its incredible performance relative to price.

Best Mattress for Sex – Heavy People

For the best mattress for sex for heavy people, we’re looking for a lot of the same factors we look for in a standard mattress. High bounce and good edge support yield the highest sex scores, but furthermore, heavy people require a more robust level of support and reinforced edges.

The body types and weight best suited to plus-sized and HD mattresses are those over 300 pounds. That said, as you get over 250 pounds these types of mattresses can also be a fine choice as well (especially if you find other mattresses often don’t provide enough support and/or sag and form body impressions quickly).

Best For

  • Zoned pocketed coils provide fantastic pressure relief and support
  • Fast material response time
  • Exceptional cooling performance

Considerations

  • Costs 2X more than the average plus-sized mattress
  • Off-gasses slightly slower than average
  • 16″ thickness may not be optimal for sleepers looking for a low-profile mattress

Our Verdict

What makes this a best mattress for sex?

The Helix Plus Elite is a fantastic mattress for heavy people looking for great sex performance. It has high levels of bounce (10.5″ total bounce) and also excellent edge support both for sitting and lying.

When seated at the edge of the mattress, the Helix had 3.25″ of sinkage and when lying down, I found support to be excellent.

Heavy sleepers need fantastic support, pressure relief, and high bounce to really excel in this category. The Helix Plus Elite checks all the boxes we look for and brings a fantastic sex performance.

What makes this a great mattress for overall comfort and sleep?

The Helix Plus Elite mattress is a 16″ hybrid for heavier sleepers. It has a 1.0″ quilted cover, a comfort layer of poly foam and micro coils, as well as a pocketed coil base.

Sinkage levels are moderate and bounce levels are high on the Helix Plus Elite. When thinking about support for heavier weighted bodies, this is a great balance of support and features that earn this mattress its place on our best mattress for sex list.

The Helix Plus Elite mattress is available in a single firmness (6 out of 10) and has a medium-firm feel.

In our performance tests, the Helix Plus Elite has exceptional performance in nearly all categories and is the highest-scoring mattress for plus-sized sleepers that we’ve tested to date. With an overall score of 9.60, the Helix Plus Elite scored within the top 2% of all mattresses we’ve ever tested.

This higher level of performance comes with a higher price tag—$2,999 for a queen. This is nearly twice the cost of the average plus-sized mattress, but it does have the performance levels to justify the higher cost for many sleepers.

Best Mattress for Sex – Hybrid

Hybrid mattresses have grown increasingly popular over the years and offer great performance. Compared to foam mattresses, hybrids can usually generate higher levels of bounce and better edge support. As we’ve seen in the examples above, higher bounce and better edge support are two factors that are critically important for earning a spot on the best mattress for sex rankings.

Hybrids contain a blend of comfort foams and supportive coil systems. These coil units can be fabric-encased pocketed coils or more traditional innerspring units. To qualify as a hybrid mattress, the mattress must contain at least 2″ of comfort material atop the coil base.

Best For

  • Exceptionally good cooling
  • Higher levels of bounce
  • Fantastic pressure relief, despite only having an 11″ thickness

Considerations

  • Edge support struggles—6.25″ of sinkage when seated at the edge
  • Priced 12% more than the average hybrid

Our Verdict

What makes this a best mattress for sex?

The Leesa Sapira has very high levels of bounce, 12.67″ total, which is 33% more than the average mattress. This significant level of bounce has a significant impact on amorous activities and helped to ensure the Sapira earned its spot as a best mattress for sex winner.

Sitting edge support struggles a bit, with 6.25″ of sinkage when seated directly at the edge. Nevertheless, bounce and overall comfort were so strong that they offset any points lost from the weaker sitting edge support.

The Sapira also has outstanding cooling performance. While cooling is only worth 5% of the sex score, this can still be a big advantage for sleepers who are particularly concerned with keeping cool during sex.

What makes this a great mattress for overall comfort and sleep?

The Leesa Sapira is an 11″ hybrid with a pocketed coil base, support foam, and a comfort layer made of both poly foam and memory foam. This combination of different materials gives the mattress a balanced feel.

The Sapira mattress has moderate levels of sinkage and very high levels of bounce. The higher bounce and moderate sinkage make it easy to move around on the mattress and change positions during the night (in addition to greatly improving amorous activities).

The Sapira Hybrid comes in a single firmness, 6 out of 10, where 10 is the most firm. This gives the mattress a medium-firm feel.

The Sapira earned an overall performance of 9.50. Considering the 300+ mattresses we’ve tested, this score puts the Sapira in the top 2% of all mattresses.

Lastly, the mattress costs $1,599 for a queen mattress, which is 19% more expensive than the average hybrid mattress. While the price is higher, the performance is also higher.

Best Mattress for Sex – Natural & Organic

Natural and organic mattresses are great choices for sex because they are naturally bouncier than many other mattress types. Looking exclusively at latex hybrid and latex foam mattresses, the average bounce height is 11.74″. For comparison, the average bounce height among all mattresses we’ve tested to date is 9.51″.

These mattresses also use natural materials that can be safer for sleepers, are generally considered non-toxic, more sustainable, and have shorter off-gassing durations. While all natural materials may not significantly impact sex performance, they could still be attractive features for material-conscious sleepers.

  • Exceptional good cooling performance
  • Very fast material response time

Considerations

  • Slightly firm feel, may not be appropriate for those who want a softer feel
  • Deeper sinkage than average when seated at the edge (4.5″)

Our Verdict

What makes this a best mattress for sex?

The Birch is our top pick for the best mattress for sex if you’re specifically looking for a natural or organic mattress. This mattress has extremely high levels of bounce (14.91″), which is 56% more bounce than the average mattress.

The hole-punched latex layers allow for an active feel on the surface of this mattress, while still retaining lower levels of motion transfer. This makes it a great choice for couples.

What makes this a great mattress for overall comfort and sleep?

The Birch is an 11″ latex hybrid mattress. It’s equipped with a 2.0″ GOLS-certified organic latex and a pocketed coil base. The mattress is topped with an organic cotton cover.

The Birch has extremely high levels of bounce and moderate sinkage. Generally, it has a slightly firmer feeling compared to medium or medium-firm mattresses. Like many other latex mattresses, the Birch has a generalized contour and does not sharply contour to your body’s shape (like many memory foam mattresses will).

This mattress is available in one firmness level, 7 out of 10, giving it a slightly firm feel. For a softer feel, check out the Birch Luxe, which shares many similarities but has a thicker softer cover for a medium-firm feel (6 out of 10).

With an overall score of 9.44, the Birch earned #2 top-rated latex hybrid placing it in the top 3% of all mattresses tested to date.

Birch costs $1499 for a queen, which is 5% less than the average latex hybrid. This makes it a great value, especially for those who prefer a slightly firmer feel for more robust support.

Considerations

  • 3.0″ comfort layer may lead to pressure relief issues for some sleepers
  • 120-night trial is shorter than the average

Our Verdict

What makes this a best mattress for sex?

The Nolah Natural is another great option for sex performance on a natural mattress. It has high levels of bounce and excellent edge support when lying directly at the edge of the mattress.

It is also quiet, has exceptional cooling, and good pressure relief—these are all important factors we’re looking at when considering the best mattress for sex.

Being a latex hybrid, the Nolah also has a more generalized contour, compared to the exacting contour of traditional memory foam. So even though the sinkage is deep, this mattress does not generate that “stuck” feeling. This type of contour can be great for sex.

What makes this a great mattress for overall comfort and sleep?

The Nolah Natural is an 11″ latex hybrid that has a pocketed coil base, as well as a natural latex comfort layer and an organic cotton cover.

There is a deep 2.55″ sinkage depth and high 11.76″ level of bounce. The deep sinkage and medium feel make it an ideal choice for many side sleepers, as this comfort and support dynamic helps to achieve a neutral spinal alignment.

This mattress is available in a single firmness—5 out of 10, which gives it a medium feel.

With an overall performance of 9.42, Nolah ranks in the top 3% of all mattresses tested to date.

The price is also quite reasonable, just $1,365 for a queen mattress. Compared to the average latex hybrid price of $1,579, the Nolah is 14% less expensive. Needless to say, the price-to-performance ratio makes this mattress a fantastic value pick.

Our Verdict

What makes this a best mattress for sex?

The Avocado Eco has very high levels of bounce at 12.19″ and good sitting edge support at 4.25″. Both of these factors are critical for amorous activity performance and earned the mattress its spot as a best mattress for sex winner.

It has deep sinkage but also very low levels of motion transfer, another advantage for couples. If you’re looking for excellent sex performance, the Avocado Eco has an above-average score at a below-average price point for latex hybrids.

What makes this a great mattress for overall comfort and sleep?

The Avocado Eco is our third latex hybrid recommended that is best for sex, but also performs exceptionally well for sleep and general comfort. It is a 10″ thick mattress with pocketed coils and natural latex.

This mattress has deep sinkage and bounce is exceptionally high—12.19″. This gives the Eco an active feel as sleepers sink deeper and bounce higher when sleepers engage with the mattress.

This mattress is available in one firmness level, 6 out of 10, which gives the Eco a medium-firm feel.

In our performance test, the Avocado Eco has an overall score of 9.26, ranking within the top 4 latex hybrids and the top 8% of all mattresses tested to date (considering 270+ mattresses).

Concerning price, the Avocado Eco is $1299 for a queen, which is 18% less than the average latex hybrid tested to date. This makes the Avocado Eco a fantastic value for sleeping and intimacy alike.
