Our Verdict
The Sleep EZ Organic Latex mattress is a latex foam mattress with numerous ways to customize it. This mattress comes in 4 different heights (7″, 9″, 10″, or 13″) with four different options of firmness for the foam (soft, medium, firm, and extra firm).
You can mix and match firmnesses to create an ideal feel for your specific needs and preferences. This mattress also allows you to have split firmness for each side of the mattress.
It has a moderate level of sinkage and a slightly high of bounce, which gives it a bouncy feel that is easy to move around on.
The Sleep EZ has an overall score of 8.73, ranking it among the top 45% of mattresses tested to date. Comparing it against other latex foam models, it is the third best of its category.
The price of the Sleep EZ depends on the thickness you choose. Therefore, the price ranges from $1,449 to $2,499. When the average latex foam mattress price is $1,926, it is about average for the middle two options.

How is Sleep EZ Different?
The Sleep EZ mattress has an overall performance that is slightly higher than average. However, it’s price can be lower if you choose the two thinner options during the customization process. But if you choose the 10″ or 13″ thickness it’s a little to a moderately higher amount compared to the average latex foam model.
- 7″ thickness: $1,499
- 9″ thickness: $1,699
- 10″ thickness: $1,999
- 13″ thickness: $2,499
- Average latex foam mattress: $1,926
It should be noted that choosing split firmness options for any or all of the layers has no impact on the price.
Advantages
The biggest advantage of the Sleep EZ mattress is its ability to choose the most preferable options for you, as an individual. Meanwhile, most other mattress only offer a one to three firmness options, if that.
Secondly, you can choose specific firmnesses for each side of the mattress, meaning you and your partner can both have their preferred firmness.
Other advantages include slightly better cooling performance, faster material response time, better edge support, and better for sex.
Neutral Factors
This mattress has 4% less sinkage than average as well as 8% more bounce. Both bounce and sinkage are considered “neutral” since they are more dependent on personal preference.
Disadvantages
Disadvantages include higher levels of motion transfer, a thinner profile (2.0″ thinner than the average mattress), and a shorter trial period—over 2 months shorter than the average trial period.
Cooling Test
Cooling performance on the Sleep EZ Organic Latex mattress was excellent. During our tests, I experienced no significant heat retention around my body.
Baseline Temp.
73.6° F
Max Temp.
87.4° F
Ending Temp.
77.3° F
Latex is a consistent and proven material. It’s been in use for decades, in large part due to its exceptionally good durability and excellent cooling performance. The material doesn’t retain heat like many poly foam / memory foams will.
In addition, the perforated holes help to create improved airflow.
Max Temp.

Ending Temp

- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
In our tests, we measured a max surface level temp of 87.4° F. From minutes 0 to 1 it was able to reduce the temperature by 5.3°. From minutes 0 to 5 it reduced the temp by 10.1°.
Heat Dissipation Over Time

When we consider the complete picture of objective data, subjective experience, and material analysis, I am confident in my assessment that the Sleep EZ mattress has excellent cooling performance.
Sinkage Test
The Sleep EZ mattress has a moderate level of sinkage. In our test, we measured 2.07” of pressure point sinkage depth. This is less sinkage than the average of 2.15”, based on all of our tests to date.
Sinkage Depth
2.07″
Sinkage Feel
Moderate
The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

It’s important to note that we tested a Sleep EZ with a medium > medium > firm layer configuration. The Sleep EZ is available in a wide variety of firmness configurations.
The firmer the layers, the less sinkage you’ll experience. The softer the layers, the more sinkage you’ll experience. The Sleep EZ mattress has a more generalized hug around the body.
It’s very restrained in the way that it contours to your body. This is a typical latex feel and exactly what we expected from Sleep EZ.

Our mattress had one side with a medium > medium > firm configuration and the other with a soft > medium > firm configuration.
The side with the soft layer on top had a slightly increased sinkage depth. However, the body contouring felt effectively the same on both sides.
Motion Transfer Test
The Sleep EZ organic latex mattress has a high level of motion transfer. In our tests, we measured 13.34 m/s² of acceleration range. This is 52% higher than the average of 8.51 m/s². While the motion transfer was high, it was expected.
Max. Acceleration
6.44 m/s²
Min. Acceleration

Accel. Range

As a material type latex is known for its high response, high bounce, and springy feel. This combination of attributes creates a unique latex feel but also creates higher motion transfer.
The level of motion transfer is documented in the video below.
While Sleep EZ has notably higher motion compared to the overall average, compared to the average for just latex mattresses we’ve tested, it’s pretty typical.
Looking at our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest levels of motion until 0.21 seconds. Motion remains moderately high until 0.64 seconds, but it’s not until 1.06 seconds that we return to near zero levels.

Both the motion peaks and motion duration are far from ideal. Latex has many benefits, including durability, a unique feel, and excellent cooling.
However, its most significant and enduring con, regardless of the brand, is motion transfer. If you want a latex mattress you should be prepared to deal with a higher level of motion transfer.
Response Test
The Sleep EZ mattress has an extremely fast response time. In our tests, we measured a mostly recovered response time of 0.2 seconds and a fully recovered response time of 0.3 seconds. This is tied with the fastest response time we’ve tested to date.
Mostly Recovered
0.2 sec.
Complete Recovery
0.3 sec.
The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.
Latex as a material type is lighting fast on the response and recovery speed. It springs back to shape effectively instantly. The response speeds we measured on Sleep EZ were notably faster than the average.
Based on all of our tests to date, we have measured an average mostly recovered response speed of 0.46 seconds and an average fully recovered response speed of 0.89 seconds.
Bounce Test
The Sleep EZ organic latex mattress has a high level of bounce. In our tests, we measured 10.28” of total bounce height. This is slightly more bounce than the average of 9.52”.
Max. Depth

Max. Rebound

Even without any coils, the Sleep EZ has a bounce level on par with many coil and hybrid mattresses.
Max. Sinkage Depth

Max Bounce Height

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.
This level of bounce is a great addition for sex, as well as helping to improve ease of movement on the mattress. The higher bounce does negatively impact motion transfer.
Nevertheless, the pros of higher bounce outweigh any negatives, in my view.
Edge Support Test
Edge support on the Sleep EZ mattress is good for sitting and good for lying. In our sitting sinkage tests, we measured 4.00” of sitting edge sinkage.
Max Sinkage
4.00″
Lying Support
Good
This is 0.05” more compression than the average of 4.05”. In general, I like to see 4.0” or less of sitting compression. When mattresses compress too deeply at the edge it can cause you to feel unsupported when sitting.
Mattresses with more robust edge support create a better surface for lounging, getting ready, and amorous activities.
The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

Lying edge support was good, but not amazing. At the absolute edge, it feels like the edge is moderately collapsed. I just don’t feel very well supported on the absolute edge.
The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.

Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.

This is a pretty typical issue with all foam mattresses. Again, it’s not bad, just not amazing. As long as you’re a few inches away from the absolute edge it should be a non-issue. The medium side has slightly better edge support compared to the soft side in our tests.
Sex Test
The version of the Sleep EZ mattress we tested had excellent sex performance.
These 5 factors make up the NapLab sex performance score.
Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
---|---|---|---|
Bounce | 65% | 8.9 | High |
Edge Support | 20% | 8.8 | Good |
Noise | 5% | 10 | Minimal |
Pressure Relief | 5% | 10 | Outstanding |
Cooling | 5% | 9.0 | Excellent |
This is a fantastic score as the mattress has high bounce, good edge support, and great comfort.

From our experience, this performance is high, but also quite typical for a latex mattress. This mattress type is one of the best for sex.
Pressure Relief Test
The Sleep EZ Organic Latex mattress has outstandingly good pressure relief. During our tests, I felt ample pressure relief in all sleeping positions. The mattress has a classic all-latex feel.
Comfort Layer
4.0″
Support Layer
6.0″
There is a level of contouring hug around the body, however, it’s quite restrained compared to memory and poly foam mattresses. This contouring hug, combined with the instant material response, creates a mattress that will never leave you feeling stuck and is easy to move around on.
The 1.0” quilted cover helps create immediate pressure relief, while the 3 stacked layers of latex create gradual transitional support. Most notably, the mattress is available in a wide variety of firmnesses.

You can get soft, medium, firm, or extra firm in one of the 3-4 layers. As a result, if you can accurately identify the type of firmness that works best for your body then you can order the mattress configuration that creates the right pressure relief that will work best for you.
The design, materials, and customization gives the Sleep EZ Organic Latex one of the best pressure relief dynamics we’ve tested to date.
Off-Gassing Test
Off-gassing on the Sleep EZ latex mattress took faster-than-average. It smelled strong right out of the box and it took 4 days for the odor to fully dissipate, whereas the average duration is close to 7 days.
Initial Smell Strength
Strong
Off-Gassing Period
4 days
But the odor was not an offensive smell, like what you’ll usually see with memory foam or poly foam blends. It has a wool / latex smell that is natural.
Company
The company score takes a look at factors that may influence your experience with the mattress.
Factors include length of the trial period, warranty, shipping / return costs, and country of origin.
Company Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Data |
---|---|---|---|
Trial Period | 15% | 6.0 | 90 nights |
Warranty | 10% | 8.0 | 20 years |
Shipping | 5% | 10 | $0 |
Returns | 20% | 7.0 | $99 |
Trust | 50% | 9.0 | Excellent |
Country of Origin | 0% | USA |
They offer a 90-night trial period, which is quite a bit shorter than the average trial length of 160 nights (based on all of our tests to date).
Aside from the trial period, they also offer a 20-year warranty and free shipping. If you decide that this mattress isn’t right for you, you can initiate a return for $99. You are also able to swap an individual latex layer for $30 within the first 90 days (for the first exchange).
How firm is the Sleep EZ?
The Sleep EZ mattress comes in multiple firmness options. The version of the mattress we tested had split internal firmness—soft on one side and medium on one side.
During our tests, I was unable to significantly feel the split between the mattresses. The top quilted cover does a nice job at blending the feel, ensuring the mattress still feels like a singular unit.
The exact configuration of these layers is selected during checkout. In checkout you can customize three factors, for a truly custom mattress:
- Firmness
- Split vs. Non-Split
- Mattress Height (7″, 9″, 10″, 13″)

Firmness
You can select from soft, medium, firm, or extra firm foam. The composition of this foam varies between natural Talalay latex or Dunlop latex, depending on the exact layer.
Split vs. Non-Split
You also have the option of splitting any of the layers for a different firmness on the opposite side. Splitting top layers can provide a different surface feel or splitting lower levels can provide deeper support.

Mattress Height
The mattress height on the Sleep EZ ranges from 7-13″. Thicker heights require 4 layers of foam while thinner heights can be satisfied with only 3 layers.
- 7″ height: 3 layers
- 9″ height: 3 layers
- 10″ height: 3 layers
- 13″ height: 4 layers
Testing Firmness
During our tests, the firmness configuration we had was:
- Top: Soft (side 1) and Medium (side 2)
- Middle: Medium
- Bottom: Firm
However, you can swap those layers around and get different firmnesses. So you could go soft > soft > soft for the softest feel. Or extra firm > extra firm > extra firm for the firmest feel.
In our tests, we found the soft > medium > firm configuration to generate a firmness of 5.5 out of 10, where 10 is the most firm.

On the opposite side, the medium > medium > firm made the mattress slightly firmer, a 6 out of 10 where 10 is the most firm.

Notably, the difference between soft and medium latex on top is pretty minor. If you want a softer mattress you’d want to go 2 soft layers and/or choose the 13” mattress with 4 layers (something like soft > soft > medium > firm).
Support & Sleeping Positions
The Sleep EZ mattress has excellent support. During our tests, I felt fully supported in all sleeping positions. And because the layers can be swapped around, the Sleep EZ is a solid pick for an extremely wide range of sleeper preferences.
Sleeper Weight | Stomach Sleepers | Side Sleepers | Back Sleepers |
---|---|---|---|
Under 150 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
150-250 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
250-300 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Much like pressure relief, support on the mattress is greatly benefited by the customization of the mattress.
Design
The mattress design is 3-4 layers of latex (depending on height) and each of those layers can be customized from soft, medium, firm, and extra firm. This level of customization lets you create the type of support that your body and sleeping position needs.

Materials
In this 9″ mattress, there are three layers of equal thickness. These layers included:
- 3.0” Talalay latex
- 3.0” Dunlop latex
- 3.0” Dunlop latex

The thickness will be slightly different on the 7″ mattress, although it is still 3 layers, as is the 10″ version. The 13″ version of the Sleep EZ has four layers of foam.
The Cover
The cover of the Sleep EZ mattress is made of organic cotton stitched to wool. It is designed to easily zip off to make swaps to the latex layers below.

The cover is also machine washable or can be replaced in the event of a stain, tear, or other damage.
Swapping Layers
In this section of the review, I would usually highlight the comfort layer and support layers. But on the Sleep EZ, all layers are interchangeable.

Support foam can be used as comfort material, or vice versa.
Because of the versatility, the most important thing to note here is that it is extremely flexible in configuration to achieve optimal firmness.

Product Evolution
The Sleep EZ Organic Latex mattress was launched in 2008 with the same design concept—customizable latex layers with the option of split firmness and layers.
As the mattress evolved, the option to make the mattress thicker was introduced, with mattress heights ranging from 7″ all the way up to 13″.
How is the Sleep EZ Different?
The biggest way that the Sleep EZ separates itself from other latex mattresses in the market is its customization.
With its 360° zipper cover, you can simply remove the outer layer and have quick access to all interior foams.
Furthermore, you can order four different firmnesses of foams. You can also select from 7″, 9″, 10″ or 13″ mattress heights.

With a 3-layer mattress, this level of customization gives you 64 different firmness configurations. On the 4-layer mattress, there are 256 possible firmness configurations.
If you decide to split the firmness, the configuration possibilities are even greater.

Sleep EZ mattresses are made in Phoenix, AZ.
A latex mattress is made from latex foam, derived from the liquid sap (latex) from a rubber tree. This liquid is processed and during this manufacturing, the liquid becomes a solid form and can be used in a layered latex mattress.
