Our Verdict
The Silk & Snow is an 11.5″ hybrid made of poly foam and pocketed coils, all wrapped within a 1.0″ quilted cover.
It has deep sinkage and a balanced contour with a high level of bounce. While this feel won’t be ideal for all sleepers, if you’re looking for that deeper contour, the Silk & Snow Hybrid may be a good option to consider.
This mattress comes in a single firmness with a medium-firm feel (6 out of 10 on our firmness scale).
In our performance tests, the Silk & Snow Hybrid had a score of 8.78, which ranks it in the top 40% of all mattresses tested to date.
In addition to having better-than-average performance, the Silk & Snow is also a great value. This mattress is priced at only $700 for a queen, 48% less than the average hybrid.

How is Silk & Snow Hybrid Different?
The Silk & Snow Hybrid mattress has an overall performance that is slightly better than average. But the price tag is substantially less than average—48% less than the average hybrid.
Advantages
Other advantages beyond price include lower motion transfer than average, fast material response time, and better edge support—20% less sinkage when seated directly on the edge.
Neutral Factors
This mattress has slightly deeper sinkage than average and higher levels of bounce, 8.7% more than the average across all mattresses tested to date.
Both sinkage and bounce are preferential factors, but if you’re looking for low bounce or minimal contour, the Silk & Snow Hybrid may not be the best option.
Disadvantages
The cooling performance was a little disappointing (especially for a hybrid), but other than that, there weren’t big downsides to this mattress.
This mattress also only has 3.0″ of comfort material, which can negatively impact pressure relief for some sleepers, especially heavier sleepers over 300 lbs.

Cooling Test
The Silk & Snow Hybrid has good, but not great cooling performance. In our tests, I felt a slight to moderate level of heat retention around my body.
Baseline Temp.
79.6° F
Max Temp.
91.1° F
Ending Temp.
80.9° F
Max Temp.

Ending Temp

- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
The mattress utilizes a hybrid design, which helps to improve airflow and limits the quantity of heat-retaining materials. In addition, the mattress uses a fairly limited 3.0” comfort layer. Nevertheless, these design choices weren’t enough to push the mattress to a better cooling performance.
In our objective temperature testing, we measured a max surface level temperature of 91.1° F, which is 1.51° warmer than average. After getting off the mattress the temperature declined by 5.8° from minutes 0 to 1, which is 1.18° cooler than average.
From minutes 0 to 5 the decline was 10.2°, which was 2.97° cooler than average.
Heat Dissipation Over Time

While it’s great to see these better-than-average temperature reductions, the subjective experience on the mattress combined with the warmer-than-average max temperature earns the mattress a below-average cooling score.
Sinkage Test
The Silk & Snow Hybrid has a deep level of sinkage. In our pressure point sinkage tests, we measured a sinkage depth of 2.34”. This is 0.18” more sinkage than the average of 2.15”.
Sinkage Depth
2.34″
Sinkage Feel
Deep
The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

The mattress creates a balanced body contouring hug. In addition, it certainly leans more in the direction of a “floating” feel, as opposed to sinking down “in” the mattress.
That said, it isn’t excessive or extreme by any notion. Overall, I found the sinkage to be comfortable, balanced, and such that most sleepers will find it acceptable.
Motion Transfer Test
The Silk & Snow Hybrid has a low level of motion transfer. In our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 7.42 m/s². This is 15.6% less motion than the average of 8.79 m/s².
Max. Acceleration
3.38 m/s²
Min. Acceleration
-4.04 m/s²
Accel. Range
7.42 m/s²
The combination of pocketed coils, 3.0” foam comfort layer, and medium-firm feel are all working together to help reduce and control motion on the mattress.
The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.
In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we see the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.15 seconds. We see a small secondary energy spike from 0.50 to 0.64 seconds and by 0.85 seconds we’ve returned to near zero levels of energy.

While the motion duration isn’t exactly incredible, given that rate of motion decline and low level of motion spike, I expect most sleepers will find this level of motion transfer to be more than acceptable.
Response Test
The Silk & Snow Hybrid has a very fast material response. In our tests, we measured a mostly recovered response time of 0.3 seconds and a fully recovered response time of 0.8 seconds.
Mostly Recovered
0.3 sec.
Complete Recovery
0.8 sec.
The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.
The mostly recovered time is 0.1 seconds faster than average, while the fully recovered time is 0.07 seconds faster than average.
While the material responsiveness isn’t quite instant, it’s not far from it. The extremely fast response helps ensure the mattress quickly adjusts to your positional changes during the night.
Bounce Test
The Silk & Snow Hybrid has a very high level of bounce. In our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 10.54”. This is 1.02” more bounce than the average of 9.52”.
Max. Depth
5.66″
Max. Rebound
4.88″
Total Bounce
10.54″
The combination of foams and coils creates ample bounce on the mattress, while still keeping motion transfer held to reasonable levels.
Max. Sinkage Depth

Max Bounce Height

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.
In general, I like to see 8-12″ of total bounce height. At 10.54″ the Silk and Snow is in the sweet spot that creates enough bounce for sex and ease of movement, while not being so high as to create problems for motion transfer. All that to say, I expect most sleepers will find this level of bounce to be satisfactory.
Edge Support Test
The Silk & Snow has excellent edge support for both sitting and lying. During our sitting edge support tests, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 3.25”. This is 0.80” less sitting sinkage than the average of 4.05”.
Max Sinkage
3.25″
Lying Support
Excellent
Even when sitting directly on the edge of the mattress I felt well supported and there was no collapse of materials. Lying edge support is equally as good.
During our tests, I felt well-supported in all sleeping positions while lying on the absolute edge of the mattress.
The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.

Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.

While the mattress doesn’t utilize any perimeter support coils, it is equipped with a support foam that runs along the entire perimeter of the mattress. This 3.5” wide and 8.0” tall foam is having a sizable impact on edge support.
Sex Test
The Silk & Snow Hybrid has excellent sex performance. On the positive side, the mattress has great edge support, which extends the sexable surface of the mattress.

In addition, pressure relief and comfort are great and the mattress makes minimal noise.
Lastly, the mattress has a high level of bounce at 10.54″. This combination of high bounce, good edge support, and solid overall comfort earn the Silk and Snow a good sex score.
How Do We Determine Sex Score?
The best mattresses for sex have high bounce, good edge support, quiet materials, and good pressure relief and cooling.
These 5 factors make up the NapLab sex performance score.
Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
---|---|---|---|
Bounce | 65% | 9.1 | Very High |
Edge Support | 20% | 9.7 | Excellent |
Noise | 5% | 8.0 | Moderate |
Pressure Relief | 5% | 9.0 | Excellent |
Cooling | 5% | 8.0 | Good |
Pressure Relief Test
The Silk & Snow Hybrid has excellent pressure relief. In our tests, I did not feel any significant level of pressure point build-up. The mattress did a great job of remaining comfortable, even when lying in the exact same spot for 15 minutes.
Comfort Layer
3.0″
Support Layer
8.5″
My only pressure relief concern is for heavier-weight sleepers. Ultimately, this is a very budget-friendly mattress.

To hit this price point we have a fairly thin 3.0” comfort layer (with 1.0” of those inches being in a quilted cover, which typically isn’t as durable relative to other comfort foam layers).
In general, a thicker comfort layer is preferable as it creates better pressure relief and will be more durable. On average, we see mattresses with a comfort layer of 4.2”.
As a result, Silk and Snow is a good bit below that. For lighter and more moderately weighted bodies this shouldn’t be a significant issue. However, for heavier-weighted sleepers, it becomes more problematic, as heavier bodies sink deeper through the foams and engage with the pocketed coils.

Heavier-weighted sleepers, especially those over 250 pounds, are more likely to experience pressure relief issues. All that said, I am hard-pressed to complain too much about this. At this price point, the Silk and Snow does far more right than it does wrong.
Off-Gassing Test
Off-gassing on the Silk & Snow Hybrid strong and the odor took 7 days to fully dissipate from the mattress.
The average off-gassing duration period is 6 days so the Silk & Snow Hybrid is only one day longer than average.
Initial Smell Strength
Strong
Off-Gassing Period
7 days
Scoring Note: The above data and score is a second off-gassing test we conducted on this mattress. The original off-gassing test was 30 days. Given the extremely long off-gassing duration of the original test, Silk & Snow believed we received a defective mattress and asked us to re-test a new mattress. We agreed to that re-test

Company
Silk & Snow has good company policies with a trial of 365 nights as well as free shipping and returns anytime within that time window. It also comes with a 15-year warranty.
Company Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Data |
---|---|---|---|
Trial Period | 15% | 10 | 365 nights |
Warranty | 10% | 8.0 | 15 years |
Shipping | 5% | 10 | $0 |
Returns | 20% | 10 | $0 |
Trust | 50% | 8.0 | Good |
Country of Origin | 0% | Canada |
This trial is over 2X longer than the average trial period (178 nights) which can be a real incentive for sleepers who are unsure about making the purchase.
The warranty is also longer than average—75% of mattresses we’ve tested have a 13-year warranty and 25% of mattresses have a lifetime warranty.
How firm is Silk & Snow Hybrid?
The Silk & Snow Hybrid mattress has a medium-firm feel with a firmness rating of 6 out of 10. This is suitable firmness for a wide range of sleepers.

Support & Sleeping Positions
Support on the Silk & Snow Hybrid is excellent. During our tests, I felt well-supported in all sleeping positions. The mattress did a great job of providing ample support.
Surprisingly, the Silk and Snow mattress uses a zoned coil unit. Zoned coil units create more support in the middle of the mattress, creating a more neutral spinal alignment. These are quite rare in a mattress at this price point.

Typically, zoned coil units are reserved for mattresses in the $1,500 or more range. In addition, the coil unit uses 1,000 individual coils (queen-sized). While coil count alone isn’t the only factor we look for, it’s always great to see something in the 1K range.
Silk & Snow’s warranty indicates that there is no weight limit on the mattress. My only support concern is really more of a pressure relief concern.
With only 3.0” of comfort material heavier-weighted bodies are more likely to experience pressure point issues, which can lead to support issues.

For this reason, I would advise caution for sleepers above 250 pounds and would advise a different mattress for sleepers over 300 pounds. For lighter and more moderate weighted bodies the level of support should be sufficient.
Check out the table below to see the sleeper weights and sleeping positions that would be best suited for this mattress.

---|---|---|---|
Under 150 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
150-250 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
250-300 lbs. | Maybe | No | Maybe |

Materials
In total, there are four layers that make up the total 12″ height of the Silk and Snow. The top two layers are for comfort, while the bottom two layers provide support.
From top to bottom, here is the breakdown of each layer:
- 1.0” quilted cover
- 2.0” poly foam
- 8.0” pocketed coil unit
- 0.5” support foam

The Cover
The cover of the Silk and Snow mattress is soft to the touch and made of polyester and spandex. It features an antimicrobial finish to help prevent bacteria growth.
The cover is quilted and has a total thickness of 1.0″. This forms the top of the comfort layer, providing contour and softness to the mattress.

The Comfort Layer
Beneath the quilted cover is a 2″ layer of gel memory foam. Memory foam is known for its viscoelastic properties, higher body contouring, as well as lower levels of bounce, and good pressure relief.

The Support Layer
The support layer consists of an 8.0″ layer of pocketed coils followed by a 0.5″ high-density support foam.

Product Evolution
Silk and Snow, the company, was launched in 2017, on the wings of a successful Kickstarter campaign. The brand was later acquired by Sleep Country in 2022.
The Silk and Snow Hybrid was released in late 2020.

In early 2024, the Hybrid had a few changes, swapping the original memory comfort foam for a poly foam comfort layer, although the 2.0″ thickness stayed the same. The support foam also changed from 0.75″ thick down to 0.5″ thick.
Performance-wise, the 2024 and 2023 versions of Silk & Snow are extremely similar.
