Best For
- Extremely fast material response
- Excellent cooling performance
- Excellent edge support with only 3.25″ of sitting sinkage
Considerations
- Higher levels of motion transfer
- Higher price than the Purple Restore Plus with no major performance advantages
Our Verdict
The Purple Restore Premier is a 13” specialty hybrid mattress made of Purple’s gel pad and a pocketed coil base. The amount of gel pad is similar to what is used in the Purple Restore Plus (3.0″ thick).
It has minimal sinkage and moderate bounce and has the unique feel that only comes from the Purple grid.
It comes in multiple firmnesses a soft 4 out of 10 and a medium-firm 6 out of 10, where 10 is the most firm. This provides enough support for all body types and sleeping positions.
The Purple Restore Premier mattress has an overall score of 8.47, which places it in the bottom 34% comparing all mattresses tested to date.
All things considered, this is still a perfectly fine mattress. However, given the price point, I expected the performance to be considerably better. In my view, there is no compelling reason to purchase the Restore Premier when the Purple Restore Plus has the same level of performance for less money.

How is the Purple Restore Premier Different?
The Purple Restore Premier mattress has a performance score that is right at the average, comparing all mattresses tested to date.
The price is 34% more than the average specialty mattress and over 2X the price of the average hybrid mattress.
Advantages
Cooling performance is slightly above average, in addition to better than average edge support. In our sitting test, we only measured 3.25″ of sinkage where the average is 4.17″. This improved support by 22%, generating 0.92″ less sinkage than average.
Neutral Factors
Neutral factors are more a matter of preference than being “good vs. bad”. The Purple Restore Premier mattress has 16% less sinkage than average and also has 2% less bounce than average.
Disadvantages
The mattress is 13″ thick, but only has 3.0″ of comfort material—1.1″ less than the average. Motion transfer levels are also 50% more than the average level, likely due to the firmer coil unit.

Cooling Test
The Purple Restore Premier has excellent cooling. During our tests, I felt no significant level of heat retention. The mattress breathes well and doesn’t retain heat.
Baseline Temp.
83.0° F
Max Temp.
91.3° F
Ending Temp.
86.2° F
In our objective temperature testing, we measured a max surface level temperature of 91.3° F. After getting off the mattress the temperature dropped by 3.8° from minutes 0 to 1 and then by 5.1° from minutes 0 to 5.
Max Temp.

Ending Temp

- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
While cooling is excellent, it notably does not rise to the 10 out of 10 level. In my view, the cooling performance is a notable step down from the now-discontinued Purple Hybrid Premier 4 and Premier 3 mattresses.
In our test, I found both of those mattresses to be 10 out of 10. The foam materials on the new Restore line are perfectly fine quality, but don’t appear to be at the same level as the previous Purple Hybrid series.
Heat Dissipation Over Time

In addition, the cover feels notably thicker and doesn’t allow air to flow as easily. All that to say, cooling isn’t bad by any stretch. It’s excellent in fact. But, in my view, it is worse than the previous Purple Hybrid series.
Sinkage Test
The Purple Restore Premier has a minimal level of sinkage. In our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 1.82”. This is 0.36” less sinkage than the average of 2.18”.
Sinkage Depth
1.82″
Sinkage Feel
Minimal
The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

The mattress creates more of a floating feeling for my arms, legs, and head (IE, lighter parts of my body). However, my midsection and butt do sink more notably down into the mattress.
For the portions of my body that are sinking further down the mattress has a moderate level of body contouring hug.
It’s not as dramatic, exacting, or sharp as memory foam is going to be, but it still does wrap and contour the body.
Motion Transfer Test
The Purple Restore Premier has a high level of motion transfer. During our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 12.36 m/s². This is 41% more motion transfer than the average of 8.79 m/s².
Max. Acceleration
5.70 m/s²
Min. Acceleration
-6.66 m/s²
Accel. Range
12.36 m/s²
The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.
In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we see the highest motion spike from 0 to 0.21 seconds. Motion drops into a moderate range after 0.21 seconds, but it’s not until 1.20 seconds that we return to near-zero levels.

Neither the motion spike nor motion duration are particularly great. Mattresses with the lowest motion are able to disperse all energy within 0.3 seconds. Needless to say, Purple Restore Premier is far from that mark.
Response Test
The Purple Restore Premier has an extremely fast material response. In our mostly recovered test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.2 seconds, which is 0.20 seconds faster than the average of 0.40 seconds, based on all of our tests to date.
Mostly Recovered
0.2 sec.
Complete Recovery
0.3 sec.
In our fully recovered responsiveness test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.3 seconds, which is 0.60 seconds faster than the average of 0.90 seconds.
At these speeds, the material rebounds back to shape effectively instantly. The Restore Premier is tied for 1st with a number of other mattresses as the fastest responsiveness we’ve tested to date.
The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.
The rapid response ensures you’ll never feel stuck on the mattress, as the material will immediately adjust to any changes in movement.
Bounce Test
The Purple Restore Premier has a moderate level of bounce. In our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 9.46”. This is 0.16” less bounce than the average of 9.60”.
Max. Depth
6.18″
Max. Rebound
3.28″
Total Bounce
9.46″
This is a relatively low level of bounce, especially for Purple. Purple’s gel pad, especially when placed on top of coils, generally creates a high level of bounce. Comparing all Purple mattresses we’ve tested to date we’ve seen an average bounce height of 13.01”.
Max. Sinkage Depth

Max Bounce Height

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.
This super high level of bounce greatly enhances sex and ease of movement, but can also create a less desirable trampoline feel for some. The Restore Premier’s 9.46” bounce is far more restrained, while still being high enough to experience the benefits of sex and easy movement.
Edge Support Test
The Purple Restore Premier has excellent sitting edge support and exceptional lying edge support. In our sitting edge support tests, we measured a sitting edge sinkage of 3.25”. This is 0.77” less sinkage than the average of 4.02”.
Max Sinkage
3.25″
Lying Support
Outstanding
In general, I want to see 4.0” of sitting edge compression or less. The Restore Premier easily hit that mark. Lying edge support was even more impressive.
During our tests, I felt well-supported in all sleeping positions, even when lying directly on the edge of the mattress.
The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.

Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.

The mattress uses both a poly foam that encases the gel pad and reinforced edge coils in the coil unit. That foam is 3.0” tall and 4.0 wide”.
That foam layer is further supported by reinforced coils at the absolute edge of the mattress. These two material choices work together to create great support for both sitting and lying.
Sex Test
The best mattresses for sex have high bounce, good edge support, quiet materials, and good pressure relief and cooling.
These 5 factors make up the NapLab sex performance score.
Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
---|---|---|---|
Bounce | 65% | 8.4 | High |
Edge Support | 20% | 9.7 | Excellent |
Noise | 5% | 10 | Minimal |
Pressure Relief | 5% | 9.0 | Excellent |
Cooling | 5% | 9.0 | Excellent |
The mattress has a moderate level of bounce and excellent edge support. These two factors make up 80% of the sex performance score and contribute to fantastic performance in this category.

Noise is minimal and pressure relief and cooling are both excellent. All things considered, the Purple Restore Premier is everything you’d want in a mattress designed for good sex.
Pressure Relief Test
The Purple Restore Premier has excellent pressure relief. In our tests, I felt no significant level of pressure point build-up anywhere on my body. I was unsurprised by the strong level of pressure relief and overall comfort.
Comfort Layer
3.0″
Support Layer
10.0″
Over the years, virtually every Purple mattress I’ve tested has had an excellent or exceptional level of pressure relief. As long as the mattress contains at least 3.0” of the gel pad (aka Purple grid), the performance is solid.

With the Restore Premier, we have a 3.0” layer of the gel pad on top of a 10” zoned coil unit. These two materials work well together to provide ample pressure relief and a balanced, but strong level of support. I expect most sleepers will find the level of pressure relief to be perfectly sufficient.
Off-Gassing Test
Off-gassing on the Purple Restore Premier is strong when it initially is unboxed. The odor took 26 days to fully dissipate, which is significantly longer than average.
Initial Smell Strength
Strong
Off-Gassing Period
26 days
The average timespan for off-gassing is 7 days (comparing over 170+ mattresses we’ve tested to date.)
Company
Purple mattresses come with a 100-night trial period and a 10-year warranty. Shipping is free and returns are also free if the mattress ends up not working out.
Company Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Data |
---|---|---|---|
Trial Period | 15% | 8.0 | 100 nights |
Warranty | 10% | 8.0 | 10 years |
Shipping | 5% | 10 | $0 |
Returns | 20% | 10 | $0 |
Trust | 50% | 8.0 | Good |
Country of Origin | 0% | USA |
Compared to the average (across all mattresses tested to date), Purple has a 38% shorter trial and 40% shorter warranty as well. Even so, 100 nights should be long enough for most to make a decision.
How firm is Purple Restore Premier?
The Purple Restore Premier mattress comes in two firmnesses—soft and firm. We tested the firm version and it had a medium-firm feel, 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale.

Based on this assessment and material feel, I would estimate the soft version to be closer to a 4 out of 10 on the firmness scale.

Support & Sleeping Positions
The Purple Restore Premier has excellent support. During our tests, I felt well-supported in all sleeping positions.
When it comes to support, strong and quality materials are essential. With the Restore Premier, we have a 3.0” comfort layer (the 3.0” gel pad / Purple grid) on top of a 10.0” support coil unit. This gives the mattress a total thickness of 13.0”.
On average, mattresses we’ve tested are 11.9” thick with a 4.2” comfort layer and 7.7” support layer.
The Restore Premier’s total profile and support layer exceed the average. While the comfort layer is south of average, given the high-performance pressure relief the Purple grid is capable of, it’s able to get away with having a slightly thinner profile.
Given the total thickness, material quality, material types, and mattress design, I am confident that most sleepers will find support is more than sufficient.
Below are the recommended body types and weights for the soft version of the Purple Restore Premier.
Sleeper Weight | Stomach Sleeper | Side Sleeper | Back Sleeper |
---|---|---|---|
Under 150 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
150-250 lbs. | Maybe | Yes | Maybe |
250-300 lbs. | No | Maybe | No |
And here is the same chart for the firm version.

Design
The Purple Restore Premier mattress is designed as the top-tier mattress within the Restore collection. It is 13″ thick and is available in two firmness levels—soft or firm.

Materials
This mattress contains only two layers. In the simplest form, the top layer is for comfort and the bottom layer is for support. From top to bottom, there are the two layers included in the Restore Premier:
- 3.0″ gel pad (Purple Grid)
- 10.0″ pocketed coils

The Cover
The cover of the Purple Restore Premier is soft and thin, with a decent amount of stretch to it. It also has an antimicrobial finish that helps the mattress to resist bacteria growth.

The Comfort Layer
The Restore Premier has a 3.0″ gel pad that serves as the primary comfort system on this mattress. The pad extends the entire surface of the mattress with the exception of the outer edges.

Along the perimeter of the pad is a perimeter foam designed to help improve edge support. This foam is 3″ tall and 4″ wide, having a denser and harder feel than the gel pad.
Unlike the Purple Restore and Purple Restore Plus, which both have a layer of foam between the gel pad and the support coils, the Restore Premier does not.
Instead, the Restore Premier has small pieces of foam capping each of the coils. In all honestly, the foam is completely invisible from the edge of the mattress and had limited (if any) performance benefits, based on our testing.
The Support Layer
The support layer is a 10.0″ support system of pocketed coils that are individually encased in a thin fabric.

This fabric helps limit any noise while also allowing the coils to move independently of each other, in turn improving pressure relief.
Product Evolution
The Purple Restore Premier was released in Summer 2023, as a new version of the Purple Hybrid Premier 4. In the Summer of 2023, the Purple Hybrid Premier 4 was slowly phased out and discontinued.
Here are the most notable material changes made comparing the legacy Purple Hybrid Premier 4 to the new Purple Restore Premier:

The table below shows in more detail the difference in materials between the two mattresses.
Purple Restore Premier | Purple Hybrid Premier 4 | |
---|---|---|
Purple Grid | 3.0″ | 4.0″ |
Poly Foam Transition | None | 1.0″ |
Pocketed Coil | 10.0″ | 7.5″ |
Base Foam | None | 1.0″ |
The Purple Restore Premier eliminates the 1″ transitional poly foam below the Purple Grid, the 1″ base foam, and 1″ of thickness from the Purple Grid itself. It replaces the thickness of these foams with 3″ of extra coil height.
Due to these changes, it should come as no surprise that the Restore Premier struggles to hit the same performance as the preceding Hybrid Premier 4.
A 10″ support coil system with only 3″ of comfort material delivers some of the highest levels of motion transfer that we’ve seen to date.
Other Mattresses to Consider
Not sure if the Purple Restore Premier mattress is the right pick for you? Check out these three other top-rated hybrid alternatives you might want to consider.
For Performance

Winkbed Original
9.82 Overall Score
The Winkbed Original is a high-performing hybrid that offers a 5″ comfort layer, 2″ thicker than the Restore Premier. This mattress is tied for the top-scoring mattress we’ve tested to date while also being $2K less than the Restore Premier Hybrid. This mattress is available in three firmness levels—Soft (4), Medium-Firm (6), or Slightly Firm (7).
For Memory Foam

Helix Midnight Luxe
9.32 Overall Score
The Helix Midnight Luxe is another great hybrid option with a 5″ comfort layer. This mattress uses memory foam and has lower levels of bounce than the Restore Premier. It also has a deeper level of sinkage (2.15″) for more engagement with the layers and less of a “floating” feel when lying down.
For Pressure Relief

Nolah Evolution 15
9.28 Overall Score
The Nolah Evolution 15 offers 6″ of comfort material for some of the best pressure relief we have experienced to date. Performance is exceptional with its only real struggle being higher levels of motion transfer (not unlike what we saw from the Restore Premier). This mattress is available in three firmness levels—Soft (4), Medium (5.5), or Firm (8).

The Purple Restore Plus Hybrid mattress is 13″ thick.
The biggest difference between these mattresses is that the Restore Plus has a 1″ layer of transitional poly foam between the gel pad and the coils. The Restore Premier does not have this layer but does have smaller bits of foam capping the coils directly. Still, looking at performance alone, it’s hard to see any real value to the “foam caps” compared to a more traditional layered foam. The Restore Premier has a higher price tag and lower performance compared to the Restore Plus.
