Best For
- Exceptional pressure relief
- Great cooling performance
- Deep sinkage and contour
Considerations
- Strong off-gassing, lasted over 3X longer than average
- Higher levels of motion transfer
Our Verdict
The Puffy Lux Hybrid is an 11.5″ memory foam hybrid mattress that has a quilted cover, followed by gel memory foam, transitional poly foam, and a pocketed coil support system.
This mattress has deep sinkage and a moderate level of bounce. If you like the contour of traditional memory foam, but want a fast material response time and recovery, the Puffy Lux may be a solid pick.
It is available in a single firmness, medium, with a firmness of 5 out of 10 on the firmness scale.
In our performance tests, the Puffy Lux earned an overall score of 8.49. This puts it slightly below the average performance score based on the 245+ mattresses tested to date.
But the price tag is also slightly lower than average (about $90 less for a queen). This can mean some savings on the Puffy Lux if you’re okay with a few disadvantages.

How is Puffy Lux Hybrid Different?
The Puffy Lux Hybrid has an overall performance that is slightly below average and a price point that is also slightly below average—6% less than the average memory foam hybrid mattress for a savings of about $90.
Advantages
Advantages of the Puffy Lux Hybrid include better-than-average cooling performance, excellent support when lying at the edge of the mattress, and outstanding pressure relief (10 out of 10).
It also has a lifetime warranty, which may be a significant factor for some sleepers.
Neutral Factors
This mattress has deep sinkage and moderate levels of bounce.
Disadvantages
Disadvantages include higher levels of motion transfer and a slower material response time. Off-gassing is also pretty powerful, with an off-gassing duration of 23 days.
Lastly, this mattress only has a 101-night trial period, 41% shorter than the average trial period of 173 nights.

Cooling Test
The Puffy Lux Hybrid has excellent cooling performance. During our tests, I did not feel any significant level of heat retention around my body. The mattress breathed well, didn’t retain significant heat, and remained cool during the test.
Baseline Temp.
77.4° F
Max Temp.
90.5° F
Ending Temp.
82.6° F
Max Temp.

Ending Temp

- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
The Puffy has a number of factors going for it with respect to cooling, including gel memory foam, a hybrid design, high quality foams that breathe and avoid heat retention, and cooling yarns infused within the cover.
This combination helps to create a cooler feel on the mattress.
During our objective temperature test, we measured a max surface level temperature of 90.5°F, which is 0.8° warmer than the average.
Despite this fact, the mattress still maintained a cooler feel around my body.
Heat Dissipation Over Time

While the Puffy Lux Hybrid won’t beat out higher-end mattresses with more advanced cooling covers and more advanced foams, given the price point, it does far more right for cooling than it has marks against it.
Overall, I’m pleased with the level of cooling performance and I don’t expect it to be an issue for most sleepers.
Sinkage Test
The Puffy Lux Hybrid has a deep level of sinkage. During our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 2.35”. This is 0.22” more sinkage than the average of 2.13”.
Sinkage Depth
2.35″
Sinkage Feel
Deep
While the mattress is within the “deep” threshold, it only passed the “moderate” sinkage mark by 0.06”. The Puffy Lux creates a dramatic body contouring hug around the body.
The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

Memory foam definitely allows the body to sink down a good bit, while contouring to the exact shape of the body. The contouring hug isn’t super sharp or dense, so it still feels fairly easy to move.
Even so, it does create a notable level of hug that wraps around the body. This is one of the best-feeling hybrid mattresses I’ve tested in quite a while.
Overall, I’m extremely happy with the sinkage dynamic. It’s well-balanced, creates nice body contour, and has fantastic pressure relief.
Motion Transfer Test
The Puffy Lux has a moderate level of motion transfer. During our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 10.68 m/s². This is 23% more motion transfer than the average of 8.71 m/s².
Max. Acceleration
4.17 m/s²
Min. Acceleration
-6.51 m/s²
Accel. Range
10.68 m/s²
The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.
In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion from 0 to 0.14 seconds. Motion drops significantly thereafter and by 0.58 seconds we’ve returned to near-zero levels of energy.

Typically, memory foam hybrids will have a lower level of motion transfer. As a result, I was a bit surprised to see motion reach “moderate” levels.
Even so, the motion is still within reasonable limits and is low enough to not be an issue for most sleepers. The one silver lining is just how rapidly motion dissipates.
While it does take 0.58 seconds to fully return to near zero levels, by 0.14 seconds the vast bulk of motion energy has already subsided. All that to say, I don’t expect motion transfer will be an issue for most sleepers.
Response Test
The Puffy Lux Hybrid has a fast level of material responsiveness. During our mostly recovered test, we measured a rebound speed of 0.4 seconds, which is just slightly faster than the average of 0.41 seconds.
Mostly Recovered
0.4 sec.
Complete Recovery
0.9 sec.
During our fully recovered test, we measured a rebound speed of 0.9 seconds, which is exactly average based on all of the mattresses we’ve tested to date. These responsiveness speeds are definitely not instant.
The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.
The memory foam layer within the mattress takes a moment or two to recover back to its original shape.
For those who like the feel of memory foam, this isn’t likely going to be a major issue, as the responsiveness is still plenty fast enough to aid in ease of movement and avoid any type of a “stuck” feeling.
Bounce Test
The Puffy Lux Hybrid has a moderate level of bounce. During our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 8.05”. This is 1.63” less bounce than the average of 9.68”, based on all of our tests to date.
Max. Depth
5.62″
Max. Rebound
2.43″
Total Bounce
8.05″
Max. Sinkage Depth

Max Bounce Height

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.
The combination of a thicker than average 4.5” foam comfort layer and 2.0” gel memory foam are both significantly reducing bounce on the mattress. The limiting of bounce is definitely helping to keep motion transfer to reasonable levels.
However, the below average bounce means that more sensitive sleepers could find it a bit more difficult to move around on the mattress and sex performance is also inhibited moderately.
Edge Support Test
The Puffy Lux Hybrid has good edge support for sitting and excellent edge support for lying.
In our sitting edge support test, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 4.25”. This is 0.21” more sitting sinkage than the average of 4.04”.
Max Sinkage
4.25″
Lying Support
Excellent
While sitting directly on the edge I feel reasonably well supported, but it also doesn’t rise to the “excellent” or “outstanding” level.
The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

In our testing photographs, you can visually see just how much sinkage edge sitting creates. It is an especially notable level while I was wearing the 60-pound weighted vest.
Even if sitting edge support left something to be desired, lying edge support was excellent. While lying directly on the edge of the mattress I felt well supported in all sleeping positions.
The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.

Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.

The mattress uses a foam encasement for edge support. The foam is 3” wide, 6” tall, and runs along the entire perimeter of the mattress. The foam seems to be having a notable impact on edge support performance, especially for lying.
Sex Test
The Puffy Lux Hybrid has good sex performance, but it’s also far from great. On the positive side, noise and pressure relief was perfect.
In addition, cooling wasn’t far behind, earning an excellent score. Next, we have our two most critical factors, edge support and bounce.
Edge support wasn’t bad by any stretch. Even so, there is absolutely room for improvement.
With sitting edge support struggling somewhat, it can make amorous activities on or near the edge more troublesome.

Last but not least, we have bounce, which came in at 8.05” and just barely cleared the threshold for a “good” score.
Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
---|---|---|---|
Bounce | 65% | 7.5 | Moderate |
Edge Support | 20% | 8.4 | Good |
Noise | 5% | 10 | Minimal |
Pressure Relief | 5% | 10 | Outstanding |
Cooling | 5% | 9.0 | Excellent |
This relatively lower level of bounce is definitely having a negative impact on amorous activity performance. The lower bounce means energy isn’t as aggressively rebounded, which can make the dance without pants more strenuous.
Pressure Relief Test
The Puffy Lux Hybrid has an outstanding level of pressure relief. The mattress creates a high degree of body contouring with a deeper hug.
Comfort Layer
4.5″
Support Layer
7.0″
The foams wrap more intensely around the exact shape of your body. This feel, combined with the medium firmness and deeper sinkage levels, creates amazingly good pressure relief.

Puffy Lux uses 4.5” of comfort material (0.5” quilted cover, 2” gel memory foam, and 2” poly foam). This is a thicker-than-average comfort layer and is a major factor in the overall pressure relief performance.
The average comfort layer thickness is 4.1”, based on all of our tests to date. In addition, the foams look and feel high quality. In our pressure mapping tests, we never saw pressure rise above a PSI of 0.99. This is incredibly low. PSI at or near 2.0 is considered high pressure and the Puffy stays far away from those levels.
Overall, I am exceedingly pleased with the pressure relief on the Puffy and I expect most sleepers will be more than satisfied by the comfort dynamic.
Pressure Map – Side Sleepers

Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
---|---|---|
Side Sleepers | 0.2 | 0.99 |
Pressure Map – Back Sleepers

Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |

Off-Gassing Test
Off-gassing on the Puffy Lux Hybrid is strong right out of the box and the odor lasted for 23 days.
Initial Smell Strength
Strong
Off-Gassing Period
23 days
Compared to the average off-gassing period of all mattresses tested to date (7 days), the Puffy Lux off-gassing is considerably longer. In addition, it smells like wet paint (at least for the few several days). This could be an issue for sleepers who are sensitive to strong odors.
Company
Puffy offers a 101-night trial period and a lifetime warranty. Shipping and returns are both free.
Company Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Data |
---|---|---|---|
Trial Period | 15% | 8.0 | 101 nights |
Warranty | 10% | 10 | Lifetime |
Shipping | 5% | 10 | $0 |
Returns | 20% | 10 | $0 |
Trust | 50% | 8.0 | Good |
Country of Origin | 0% | USA |
Compared to the average, the Puffy trial is shorter (average trial is 173 nights), but the warranty is longer. Among all mattresses tested to date, 24% have lifetime warranties and the average of other 76% of mattresses is 13 years.
How firm is Puffy Lux?
The Puffy Lux mattress has a medium feel with a firmness level of 5.5.

This is just a touch softer than a medium-firm (6 out of 10), which is the most common mattress firmness.
Support & Sleeping Positions
The Puffy Lux has excellent support. In our tests, I felt well-supported in all sleeping positions. The material design checks most of the boxes I look for.
It’s 11.5” tall (it’s supposed to be 12”, but ours was a bit short of that), uses 4.5” of comfort foam, and 7.0” of support materials. Puffy’s support layer is slightly thinner than the average support layer, which is 7.9”, based on all of our tests to date.

Even so, this fact didn’t seem to meaningfully impact the supportive feel of the mattress. The pocketed coil unit and foundational support foam both look and feel high quality.
Their material quality, in combination with our other performance tests, gives me confidence in Puffy’s longevity and overall support dynamic. I am confident the Puffy Lux could support up to 300 pounds per side. Overall, the Puffy is able to create fantastic support for sleepers.

The Cover
The Puffy Lux has a 0.5″ quilted cover that is soft to the touch and has cloud accent stitching.

It is made of a blend of polyester, polyethylene, rayon, and a small amount of elastane (aka Spandex) that gives the cover its stretch.
The Comfort Layer
The comfort layer includes a 2.0″ gel memory foam followed by a 2.0″ poly foam. The secondary poly foam serves the dual purpose of comfort as well as transitional support above the support layer below.

The Support Layer
The support layer is a 6.0″ pocketed coil system followed by a 1.0″ high-density support foam. This is slightly thinner than previous versions of the Puffy Lux (7″ coils on a 2022 version).

Product Evolution
The Puffy Lux hybrid mattress began as an all-foam mattress back in 2018. In 2021, Puffy expanded the Lux collection to include the Puffy Lux hybrid.
In February 2024, Puffy updated the mattress design, which previously contained fiberglass. As of February 2024, the Lux no longer contains fiberglass. Instead, Puffy uses wool and viscose fiber for the fire barrier.

We have tested two version of the Puffy Lux, one in 2022 and again in 2024.
Most notable changes between the 2022 version and the 2024 version include:
- Thinner overall profile (11.5″ compared to 13.0″ original thickness)
- The addition of memory foam into the comfort layer
- Mattress no longer contains fiberglass
- Cover is no longer removable
- Overall score went down slightly
