Our Verdict
The Big Fig Luxe is a 13.25″ plus-sized mattress made of latex foam, memory foam, pocketed coils, and support foam.
The Big Fig Luxe is available in a single firmness level — medium-firm.
This mattress has deep sinkage and moderate levels of bounce. Compared to our tests of the original Big Fig, the Luxe has significantly more sinkage and slightly less bounce as well.
In our performance tests, this mattress earned an overall score of 9.08, ranking the mattress in the top 16% of all mattresses tested to date.
The Big Fig Luxe is $2,149 for a queen-sized mattress, which is 15% more expensive than the average plus-sized mattress. Although I don’t love to see a higher price, the benefit is significantly higher overall performance.

How is Big Fig Luxe Different?
The Big Fig Luxe is a 13.25″ plus-sized mattress with an overall performance level that is better than the average plus-sized mattress and a price tag that is slightly more expensive than average. If you’re looking for better overall performance and are willing to pay for it, the Big Fig Luxe is a great option.

Advantages
Advantages of the Big Fig Luxe are numerous and 7 out of 8 testing categories performed better than average. And the 8th category was right at the average level (off-gassing).
The Big Fig Luxe is a high-end plus-sized hybrid with excellent cooling performance, lower levels of motion transfer, faster material responsiveness, and excellent edge support.
The sex score is better than average, as well as better pressure relief and a better company score. There’s really nothing not to like about the Big Fig Luxe.
Neutral Factors
This mattress has deep sinkage and moderate bounce. These factors are considered neutral because their perception will largely vary based on sleeper preferences.
Off-gassing duration is also right at the average level—7 days for full off-gassing. Being right at the average level, off-gassing is a neutral factor as well.
Disadvantages
Aside from the slightly higher price (15% more expensive than the average plus-sized mattress), there are no notable disadvantages to the Big Fig Luxe mattress. This mattress brings top-notch performance across the board.
Cooling Test
The Big Fig Luxe has excellent cooling. During our tests, I did not feel any significant level of heat retention on my body.
Baseline Temp.
78.8° F
Max. Temp.
90.4° F
Ending Temp.
82.1° F
The mattress has multiple design and material factors that are helping to improve cooling. First up, the hybrid design brings more airflow into the mattress.
In addition, we have high performance foams that all seem to breathe well and don’t retain significant heat.
Max. Temp.

Ending Temp.

- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
Lastly, the comfort layer is primarily poly foam, with only a limited 0.75” memory foam layer.
Poly foams typically retain less heat than memory foam. This combination of factors is working together to create excellent cooling performance.
In our objective temperature tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 90.4° F. This is 0.4° more than the average of 90.0° F, based on all of our tests to date.
After getting off the mattress, the temperature declined by 5.1 degrees from minutes 0 to 1, which is 0.3 degrees cooler than the average 0 to 1 minute decline of 4.8 degrees.
Heat Dissipation Over Time

When we consider the combination of objective data, my subjective experiences, and an analysis of the materials, I’m confident in my view that cooling is excellent.
Sinkage Test
The Big Fig Luxe has deep sinkage. During our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 2.32″.
Sinkage Depth
2.32″
Sinkage Feel
Deep
Body Contour
Balanced
This is 0.10″ more sinkage than the average sinkage depth of 2.22″, based on all of our tests to date. The mattress creates a balanced body contouring hug.
The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

The Big Fig Luxe uses a mix of quilted cover, poly foam, memory foam, and latex foam to create a less polarizing feel. Even so, this is definitely a mattress for plus-sized bodies.
Lighter and moderate-weight sleepers are likely to find the sinkage and comfort dynamic just doesn’t work well. This mattress has lots of pushback and lots of support, which is what we expect from a mattress designed for heavier people.
For heavier people, the extra support, thick comfort layer, and moderate sinkage depth will create an even and balanced body contouring hug.
Motion Transfer Test
The Big Fig Luxe has a very low level of motion transfer. During our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 6.51 m/s². This is 26% less motion transfer than the average of 8.80 m/s².
Accel. Range
6.51 m/s²
Motion Duration
1.04 seconds
In many cases, mattresses for heavier people greatly struggle with motion transfer, as the materials and design characteristics needed to create more robust support also create higher motion transfer.
However, that’s not what we measured with the Big Fig Luxe. The mattress does a fantastic job at mitigating energy and motion.
The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.
The combination of a thicker-than-average comfort layer, moderate sinkage, usage of 0.75” of memory foam, and just slightly higher than average bounce are all contributing to the lower motion transfer.
In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.25 seconds. Motion begins to decline notably thereafter.
By 1.04 seconds, we’ve returned to near-zero levels of energy, which is 0.16 seconds longer than the average motion duration of 0.88 seconds.
Motion Transfer Over Time

While the motion transfer duration is longer than average, the motion intensity is considerably below average. Overall, I’m pleased with this level of motion and I don’t expect it will be an issue for most sleepers.
Response Test
The Big Fig Luxe is a mixed bag for material responsiveness, with a very fast mostly recovered response time and a moderate fully recovered response time.
Mostly Recovered
0.3 sec.
Fully Recovered
1.1 sec.
In our mostly recovered test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.3 seconds, which is 0.11 seconds faster than the average of 0.41 seconds, based on all of our tests to date.
In our fully recovered responsiveness test, we measured a recovery speed of 1.1 seconds, which is 0.09 seconds slower than the average of 1.01 seconds. Most of the foams and materials used within the Big Fig Luxe spring back to shape quickly, including the poly foam, latex foam, and coil unit.
However, the 0.75” memory foam layer does take longer to recover back to its original shape and that layer slows down the total material responsiveness for the mattress at large.
The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.
All that said, while material recovery speed isn’t ideal, it’s not bad by any stretch. I never felt stuck in the mattress or had any difficulty moving around. For most sleepers, I don’t expect this level of recovery speed will be problematic.
Bounce Test
The Big Fig Luxe has a moderate level of bounce. During our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 9.02″. This is 0.19″ more bounce than the average of 8.83″, based on all of our tests to date.
Max. Depth
5.61″
Max. Rebound
3.41″
Total Bounce
9.02″
Higher than average bounce is typical for a plus-sized mattress and that’s exactly what we measured here. The more supportive coil unit and other layers simply return more energy, which creates the increased bounce.
Max. Sinkage Depth

Max. Bounce Height

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.
While bounce is higher than average, it’s not so high as to create problems with motion transfer.
Bounce at this level helps to facilitate reasonably good sex performance, doesn’t have a significant negative impact on motion transfer, and provides for improved ease of movement.
Edge Support Test
The Big Fig Luxe has excellent sitting edge support and outstanding lying edge support.
Max. Sinkage
3.25″
Lying Support
Outstanding
Reinforced Edge
Yes
In our sitting edge support test, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 3.25″. This is 0.70″ less sitting sinkage than the average of 3.95″, based on all of our tests to date.
The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

While lying directly on the edge of the mattress, I felt that the support was outstanding in all sleeping positions. The Big Fig Luxe is equipped with a reinforced support foam that runs along the entire perimeter of the mattress.
This foam has an ILD of 80. ILD is a measure of firmness and it stands for indentation load deflection. Most mattress foam layers would be between a 12-40 ILD (12 being extra soft and 40 being extra firm).
So to have an ILD at 80 for an edge support layer is fantastic, as it creates incredibly robust support and pushback along the edge.
The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.

Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.

In my view, this extra supportive perimeter edge support foam, in combination with the high quality materials, hybrid design, and thicker-than-average total mattress height, are all working together to deliver incredibly robust edge support.
Sex Test
The Big Fig Luxe has good sex performance. On the positive side, noise is minimal and pressure relief, cooling, and edge support are all excellent.

In our edge support tests, we measured just 3.25” of sitting edge sinkage. That’s much better than average and means the edge is incredibly robust and supportive, which extends the usable surface area for amorous activities.
Last but not least, we have bounce, which we measured at 9.02”. This is more bounce than average, which is great.
Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
---|---|---|---|
Bounce | 65% | 8.1 | High |
Edge Support | 20% | 9.7 | Excellent |
Noise | 5% | 10 | Minimal |
Pressure Relief | 5% | 9.0 | Excellent |
Cooling | 5% | 9.0 | Excellent |
That said, more bounce is almost always better than less bounce and we would have liked to have seen bounce at least 10” for sex. Even so, in combination with our other factors, we have enough bounce to see the Big Fig Luxe earn a good overall sex score.
Pressure Relief Test
The Big Fig Luxe has an excellent level of pressure relief. During our tests, I felt no significant pressure points on my body.
The mattress is equipped with 4.75″ of comfort material, which is 0.48″ more comfort material than the average comfort layer thickness of 4.27″, based on all of our tests to date.
Comfort Layer
4.75″
Support Layer
8.50″
When I cut the mattress open to look at the foam layers, I can see that the quality of the foam is fine, not amazing, but fine. Most of the layers have a reasonable thickness; however, we do have a 0.25” latex layer.
The latex layer is so thin, I question why it has been included at all. It’s hard to imagine it’s having a notable impact on performance or feel with just 0.25”.

Even so, this combination of hybrid design, pillow top, and thicker than average comfort layer do come together to deliver excellent pressure relief.
In our objective pressure mapping tests, we measured a max PSI of 0.72. Ideally, we want to see all PSI measurements below 1.0 and the Big Fig Luxe hit that benchmark. A 2.0 PSI is a high-pressure point.
Pressure Map – Side Sleepers

Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
---|---|---|
Side Sleepers | 0.14 | 0.60 |
Pressure Map – Back Sleepers

Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
---|---|---|
Back Sleepers | 0.08 | 0.72 |
Pressure Map – Stomach Sleepers

Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
---|---|---|
Stomach Sleepers | 0.08 | 0.48 |
When I consider our objective pressure mapping tests, material thickness, material quality, and my subjective experience on the mattress, I’m confident most sleepers will find the pressure relief to be excellent.
Off-Gassing Test
The Big Fig Luxe had a strong smell upon the initial unboxing. The mattress smelled for 7 days. This is exactly the same as the average smell duration of 7.0 days.

How firm is Big Fig Luxe?
The Big Fig Luxe is available in a single firmness, 6 out of 10, which gives the mattress a medium-firm feel.

This firmness is the most popular firmness and works well for most sleepers. It is soft enough to provide good pressure relief without sacrificing support.
Support & Sleeping Positions
Support on the Big Fig Luxe is outstanding. During our tests, I felt well supported in all sleeping positions. The mattress is equipped with an 8.5″ support layer. This is 0.6″ thicker than the average support layer thickness of 7.9″, based on all of our tests to date.
Support Factor | Data |
---|---|
Comfort Layer | 4.75″ |
Support Layer | 8.50″ |
Firmness | Medium-Firm |
Body Contour | Balanced |
Zoned Support | No |
Reinforced Edge | Yes |
This mattress is designed for heavier people and it’s capable of supporting up to 550 pounds per side and 1,100 pounds for the entire mattress. Notably, this mattress does not use any zoned support.
This is more typical for heavy-duty mattresses, as these mattresses usually are equipped with reinforced coils from top to bottom. The mattress coils are 15 gauge, which is a good thickness of wire, but I would have expected a mattress designed for heavier-weight sleepers to use a thicker coil gauge (ideally a 12-13 gauge).
Lastly, this mattress is available in a single firmness, medium-firm feel. This firmness is ideal for all sleeping positions.

Check out the table below to see the sleeper weights and sleeping positions that would be best suited for this mattress.
Sleeper Weight | Stomach Sleeper | Side Sleeper | Back Sleeper |
---|---|---|---|
Under 150 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
150-250 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
250-300 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Based on all of my tests to date, an analysis of the materials, and my subjective experiences, I’m confident that most sleepers will find support on the Big Fig Luxe is outstanding.
Design

The Cover
The Big Fig Luxe has a 2.25″ thick pillow top, 0.75″ thicker than the quilted cover of the original Big Fig. It has an organic wave-like stitching pattern and tufted button accents.

The Comfort Layer
The comfort layer is 4.75″ thick and made of latex foam, memory foam, and poly foam. The latex layer is 0.25″ thick, followed by a 0.75″ memory foam layer. The poly foam sits at the base of the comfort layer and is 1.5″ thick.

It does not have a notably latex or memory foam feel, likely due to the overall thinness of these layers. But together, all three layers combine with the quilted cover to create a 4.75″ comfort layer, slightly thicker than the average.
The Support Layer
The support layer is made of a 7.50″ pocketed coil layer combined with a 1.0″ base of support foam.
The 15-gauge steel coils are individually encased with a thin fabric to limit noise and motion transfer.
These coils are wrapped in a high-density 80 ILD foam that encompasses the perimeter of the mattress. Strong edge foam helps to provide supportive edges for sitting or sleeping at or near the edge.

The 1.0″ support foam at the very bottom of the mattress provides a support base for the Big Fig Luxe. This is a similar support system to what we saw on the original Big Fig.
Product Evolution
The original Big Fig was released in 2017 as one of the earliest online mattress companies designed specifically for heavier-weighted sleepers.
Since its initial release, the mattress has undergone minor changes (material sourcing updates and the coil count has gone down), but the overall look and feel of the mattress has remained consistent.
The Big Fig Luxe was a new addition to the collection, a mattress that was added in 2025. The Luxe hit the market as a higher-end alternative to the original Big Fig mattress.
