Our Verdict
The Bedgear M3 Performance is a 12.75″ hybrid mattress made of poly foam, a pocketed coil core, and a support foam base. This mattress is designed for couples with different firmness preferences and has the advantage of optional split firmness within a single mattress cover.
The Bedgear M3 Performance is available in four firmness levels — soft, medium, medium-firm, and slightly firm. The majority of our tests were completed with the 1.0 medium-firm firmness, which is a 6 out of 10 firmness (where 10 is the most firm).
The 1.0 medium-firm feel has deep sinkage and high levels of bounce. Typically, softer firmness levels may have deeper sinkage and less bounce, while firmer options may have slightly less sinkage or more bounce.
In our performance tests, this mattress earned an overall score of 8.71, ranking the mattress in the top 44% of all mattresses tested to date.
The Bedgear M3 Performance is $3,000 for a queen-sized mattress, which is around 2X the cost of the average hybrid mattress ($1,519/queen). If you’re specifically looking for a mattress with split firmness, without sacrificing the clean look of a single mattress cover, the Bedgear could be a great option.

How is Bedgear M3 Performance Different?
The Bedgear M3 Performance is a 12.75″ hybrid mattress with an overall performance level that is above average, but with a price that is also significantly above average.
Advantages
Specific advantages of the Bedgear M3 include better cooling, extremely fast material response time, and above-average pressure relief.
For couples, the Bedgear is an absolute gem. It offers two distinctly different firmness options on each side and also fantastic sex performance, thanks in large part to the high level of bounce.
It also has great pressure relief and the overall profile is slightly thicker than average (12.75″ vs. 12.21″ average).
Neutral Factors
This mattress has deep sinkage and high bounce. While these are ultimately preferential factors, it is also the signature feel of a more active mattress with a higher degree of engagement.

Disadvantages
The biggest disadvantage of the M3 Performance is higher levels of motion transfer. It’s a bit of double edge sword—the dual firmness is great for couples, but the higher level of motion transfer is certainly not ideal.
Additionally, this mattress has slower off-gassing, taking 14 days to fully off-gas, compared to the 7-day average.
Bedgear offers a 30-night trial period, which is incredibly short relative to industry norms. Bedgear is 1 of just 9 mattresses that have a 30 night trial period or less out of 421 mattresses tested. 412 of those 421 mattresses have a 100 night trial period or longer.
Lastly, Bedgear has a $199 return fee. Bedgear is tied for 3rd as the most expensive return fee among all mattresses tested to date (#1 is Purple and Sleep Number, which charge $250). 317 out of 421 mattresses tested have a $0 return fee.
Cooling Test
The Bedgear M3 Performance has outstanding cooling. During our tests, I did not experience any significant level of heat retention around my body.
Baseline Temp.
77.0° F
Max. Temp.
89.7° F
Ending Temp.
80.3° F
This mattress has multiple design and material choices that improve cooling. First up, we have a cooling cover, which has a notable cool-to-the-touch feel.
In addition, we have a hybrid design, where a base layer of pocketed coils brings plenty of airflow into the mattress. Lastly, the mattress is equipped with all poly foam comfort layers, all of which seem to breathe well.
Max. Temp.

Ending Temp.

- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
In our objective temperature tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 89.7° F. This is 0.5° cooler than the average of 90.2° F, based on all of our tests to date.
After getting off the mattress, the temperature declined by 5.4 degrees from minutes 0 to 1, which is 0.6 degrees cooler than the average 0 to 1 minute decline of 4.8 degrees.
Heat Dissipation Over Time

When we consider the combination of objective data, my subjective experiences, and an analysis of the materials, I’m confident in my view that cooling is outstanding.
Sinkage Test
The Bedgear M3 Performance has deep sinkage. During our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 2.53″. This is 0.28″ more sinkage than the average sinkage depth of 2.25″, based on all of our tests to date.
Sinkage Depth
2.53″
Sinkage Feel
Deep
Body Contour
Balanced
The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

The mattress creates a balanced body contouring hug. The M3 is a hybrid mattress equipped with a thin, non-quilted cover and all poly foam comfort layers. Poly foam creates a more even, balanced, and less dramatic body contouring hug compared to memory foam.
This more even feel is less polarizing and, when combined with the hybrid design, creates a feel that most sleepers will find comfortable.
Our primary sinkage test was conducted on the 1.0 medium firm feel; however, we also tested the 3.0 plush version and found it delivered both considerably deeper sinkage and a considerably softer feel (which we’ll discuss in the firmness section).
Motion Transfer Test
The Bedgear M3 Performance has a moderate level of motion transfer. During our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 9.80 m/s². This is 11% more motion transfer than the average of 8.81 m/s².
Accel. Range
9.80 m/s²
Motion Duration
1.30 seconds
The M3 creates more bounce than average. That extra bounce is driven by the poly foam comfort layer, thin (non-pillow top / non-quilted) cover, and hybrid design.
Ultimately, extra bounce simply means there is more energy to contend with, and as a result, a higher level of motion transfer.
In addition, I suspect the modular design is also having a negative impact on motion. When components aren’t glued into place, there can simply be more movement between those materials, creating more motion.
The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.
In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.2 seconds.
Motion begins to decline thereafter, but we do still see a notable secondary acceleration spike from 0.6 to 0.7 seconds. By 1.30 seconds, we’ve returned to near-zero levels of energy, which is 0.41 seconds longer than the average motion duration of 0.89 seconds.
Motion Transfer Over Time

The overall motion transfer picture just isn’t great. We have a considerably longer than average motion duration and a higher motion intensity than average. As a result, motion transfer leaves something to be desired.
Response Test
The Bedgear M3 Performance has an extremely fast material response.
Mostly Recovered
0.2 sec.
Fully Recovered
0.3 sec.
In our mostly recovered test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.2 seconds, which is 0.22 seconds faster than the average of 0.42 seconds, based on all of our tests to date.
In our fully recovered responsiveness test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.3 seconds, which is 0.72 seconds faster than the average of 1.02 seconds.
The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.
This is effectively an instant material recovery speed, and it’s tied for 1st with a number of other highly responsive mattresses we’ve tested previously.
The fast material recovery speed makes the mattress easy to move around on, easy to change positions, and easy to get in / out of bed. That extra fast response speed is the product of the hybrid design, thin cover, and all poly foam comfort layer.
Bounce Test
The Bedgear M3 Performance has a high level of bounce. During our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 10.79″. This is 2.08″ more bounce than the average of 8.71″, based on all of our tests to date.
Max. Depth
5.94″
Max. Rebound
4.85″
Total Bounce
10.79″
The higher bounce is a product of the hybrid design, all poly foam comfort layer, and thin non-quilted cover. More bounce is beneficial for both ease of movement and sex performance.
Max. Sinkage Depth

Max. Bounce Height

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.
However, all of that extra bounce is also having a negative impact on motion transfer. As such, it’s worth considering whether lower motion transfer or sex and ease of movement are more important to you.
Edge Support Test
The Bedgear M3 Performance has excellent sitting edge support and good lying edge support.
Max. Sinkage
3.75″
Lying Support
Good
Reinforced Edge
Yes
In our sitting edge support test, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 3.75″. This is 0.12″ less sitting sinkage than the average of 3.87″, based on all of our tests to date.
The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

While lying directly on the edge of the mattress, I felt that the support was good in all sleeping positions. This mattress is equipped with a full perimeter of support foam, reinforcing the edge of the mattress.
While this foam is absolutely helping, I still felt that edge support for lying left something to be desired.
The mattress creates quite a bit more sinkage near the edge while lying, which makes the part of the body nearer the edge feel notably lower than the rest of your body.
The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.

Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.

This dynamic creates less-than-great lying edge support. In addition, the cover of the mattress is quite slippery, which is typical of cooling covers.
This more slippery-feeling cover can further degrade edge support. All that to say, edge support is still good, but it’s fair to say it doesn’t rise to the excellent or outstanding level.
Sex Test
The Bedgear M3 Performance has excellent sex performance. All in all, the M3 has really impressive sex performance, earning excellent or outstanding scores in all 5 of our sex testing categories.

Noise is minimal, pressure relief is excellent, and cooling is outstanding.
In addition, sitting edge sinkage measured 3.75”, which is better than average and creates more robust support for sitting at the edge. This extends the usable surface area of the mattress for sex.
| Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bounce | 65% | 9.2 | Very High |
| Edge Support | 20% | 9.1 | Excellent |
| Noise | 5% | 10 | Minimal |
| Pressure Relief | 5% | 9.0 | Excellent |
| Cooling | 5% | 10 | Outstanding |
Lastly, the bounce measured 10.79”. This is notably more bounce than average, and it’s the primary driver of the better-than-average sex score.
When it comes to sex, more bounce is almost always better than less. More bounce facilitates ease of movement and staying in motion with your partner. Overall, the Bedgear M3 has fantastic sex performance.
Pressure Relief Test
The Bedgear M3 Performance has an excellent level of pressure relief. During our tests, I felt no significant pressure points on my body.
Comfort Layer
4.00″
Support Layer
8.75″
The mattress is equipped with 4.0″ of comfort material, which is 0.3″ less comfort material than the average comfort layer thickness of 4.3″, based on all of our tests to date.
In all NapLab mattress tests, we make a point to cut the mattress open and examine the material quality. In doing so, I’m pleased with what I see. The foam layers look and feel high quality, both on the body and in-hand.

Ideally, I would have liked to have seen a thicker comfort layer, but the quality of the foam material does help to make up for the slightly thinner-than-average thickness.
The M3 utilizes a thin, non-quilted cover. This cover allows the body to come into more immediate contact with the foam layers below, creating an even feel, a balanced hug, and excellent pressure relief.

This mattress is available in multiple firmness levels that can be split on the left and right sides. This is especially beneficial for couples, as each sleeper can choose their precise preferred firmness level.
In our objective pressure mapping tests, we measured a max PSI of 0.77, which is within the 1.0 PSI threshold I ideally want to see.
Pressure Map – Side Sleepers

| Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Side Sleepers | 0.11 | 0.54 |
Pressure Map – Back Sleepers

| Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Back Sleepers | 0.07 | 0.48 |
Pressure Map – Stomach Sleepers

| Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Stomach Sleepers | 0.07 | 0.77 |
When I consider our objective pressure mapping tests, material thickness, material quality, and my subjective experience on the mattress, I’m confident most sleepers will find the pressure relief to be excellent.
Off-Gassing Test
The Bedgear M3 Performance had a strong smell upon the initial unboxing. The mattress smelled for 14 days. This is 6.7 days longer than the average smell duration of 7.3 days.

Company
Bedgear mattresses come with a 30-night trial period and a 10-year warranty. Shipping is free, but returns are $199 if you end up wanting to send the mattress back.
| Company Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Data |
|---|---|---|---|

| Warranty | 20% | 8.0 | 10 years |
| Shipping | 10% | 10 | $0 |
| Country of Origin | 0% | USA |
Comparing 113+ brands tested to date, the average trial period is 193 nights, 163 nights more than Bedgear offers.
The average warranty is 13 years, which is 3 years more than this mattress, and that’s if we exclude the 41% of mattresses that offer lifetime warranties.

How firm is Bedgear M3 Performance?
The Bedgear M3 Performance mattress is available in 4 different firmness options—Plush, Medium Plush, Medium-Firm, and Firm. The choice of firmness is reflected in the firmness of the coil units.

Sleepers can choose any combination of 2 of them to put on either side of their mattress. In our tests, we chose to include the Plush and Medium-Firm options.
3.0 Plush Firmness
The Plush option has a soft feel, with a firmness rating of 4 out of 10, where 10 is the most firm.

1.0 Medium Firm
The Medium-Firm option indeed has a medium-firm feel with a 6 out of 10 rating.

2.0 Medium Plush
We didn’t test the Medium-Plush option first-hand, but I would estimate it to have a medium feel with a 5 out of 10 rating. This is a nice option for something in between Plush and the Medium-Firm version.

0.0 Firm
Finally, we also didn’t test the Firm option, but I would estimate it to have a slightly firm feel with a 7 out of 10 rating.

Again, if you’re looking for something with slightly more pushback than what we experienced on the Medium-Firm, opting for the Firm version could be a reasonable option.
Support & Sleeping Positions
Support on the Bedgear M3 Performance is excellent. During our tests, I felt well supported in all sleeping positions. The mattress is equipped with an 8.75″ support layer. This is 0.84″ thicker than the average support layer thickness of 7.91″, based on all of our tests to date.
| Support Factor | Data |
|---|---|
| Comfort Layer | 4.00″ |
| Support Layer | 8.75″ |
| Firmness | Soft, Medium, Medium-Firm, and Slightly Firm |
| Body Contour | Balanced |
| Zoned Support | No |
| Reinforced Edge | Yes |
The M3 is available in 4 firmnesses, including 0.0 firm, 1.0 medium firm, 2.0 medium plush, and 3.0 plush. We tested the medium firm and plush, with the medium firm side being the primary side we used for data collection.
Having multiple wide-running firmness options is ideal, as it helps meet the needs of a wider range of sleepers. However, the M3 takes it a step further with its internal split configuration.

This allows sleepers to choose different firmnesses for each side of the mattress. This is especially beneficial for couples with differing firmness preferences.
Check out the table below to see the sleeper weights and sleeping positions that would be best suited for this mattress.
Plush Version
| Sleeper Weight | Stomach Sleeper | Side Sleeper | Back Sleeper |

|---|---|---|---|
| Under 150 lbs. | Yes | Maybe | Yes |
| 150-250 lbs. | Yes | Maybe | Yes |
| 250-300 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
The modular design of the mattress not only allows for different firmness selections but also provides flexibility down the road.
With the modular configuration, you can easily change firmnesses in the future or replace old layers if they are no longer providing sufficient support and comfort.
Moving on, this mattress does not use zoned support. Instead, we have a consistent firmness and support from the head down to the foot.
Based on all of my tests to date, an analysis of the materials, and my subjective experiences, I’m confident most sleepers will find support on the Bedgear M3 Performance is excellent.
Design
The Bedgear M3 Performance is a 12.75″ hybrid mattress that comes in four firmness options—Soft, Medium, Medium-Firm, and Slightly Firm. It is designed as a mattress for couples with different firmness preferences.
| Design Factor | Data |
|---|---|
| Type | Hybrid |
| Thickness | 12.75″ |
| Cover Type | Thin |
| Weight | 118 lbs. |
| Has Handles | No |
| Fiberglass-Free | Yes |
| Ships in a Box | Yes |
This mattress is shipped in a box, vacuum-sealed and compressed. There are no handles on the mattress, which would have been nice to see at this price point, but it likely isn’t a deal breaker for many.

Handles can make it easier to rotate a mattress, but given that each side of the Bedgear is specifically designed for a single sleeper, you may find yourself less likely to want to rotate this mattress.

The Cover
The Bedgear M3 Performance has a thin cover. It is soft and cool to the touch, making it a good option for sleepers who struggle with heat retention.

Also, the cover is fully removable. Simply unzip the cover and toss it in the washing machine. This helps the mattress stay cleaner over many years of regular use.
The Comfort Layer
The comfort layer is 4.00″ thick and made of three layers of poly foam. There are two 1.0″ poly foam layers (light free foam and white foam), which sandwich a thicker 2.0″ poly foam layer (light yellow foam).

All three of these layers have a perforated design that is designed to improve airflow as well as the material’s response time.
Depending on the firmness that is selected, the exact makeup of the three layers can vary, but the overall thickness should remain consistent.

The Support Layer
The support layer is 8.75″ thick and made of a 7.0″ pocketed coil system followed by a 1.75″ support foam base.

Each of the coils is individually encased in a thin fabric, which allows the coils to move independently of each other, improving pressure relief and limiting noise.

There is a perimeter foam along the edge of the mattress that contains the coils in the core of the mattress and also improves edge support.
Product Evolution
The current Bedgear M3 Performance is a model that launched in October 2025, as an update to the original M3 that entered the market between 2023 and 2024.
The 2025 refresh was primarily for cooling updates, but the dual-firmness design has remained consistent since its original release.
