Our Verdict
The Beautyrest Silver DualCool is a 14.50″ hybrid mattress made of memory foam, poly foam, and pocketed coils. It is a Costco-exclusive mattress, meaning it is only available via the Costco warehouse—membership required.
The Beautyrest Silver DualCool is available in a single firmness level — medium. On our firmness scale, this comes in a 5 out of 10, where 10 is the most firm.
This mattress has deep sinkage and moderate levels of bounce. It has a balanced contour as well, which would generally be an attractive feel for a wide range of sleepers. That said, this mattress falls short in many areas.
In our performance tests, this mattress earned an overall score of 7.91, ranking the mattress in the bottom 15% of all mattresses tested to date. And if we look exclusively at hybrids, that rank drops even lower to the bottom, 10% of all hybrids.
The Beautyrest Silver DualCool is $649 for a queen-sized mattress, which is 57% less expensive than the average hybrid. If you’re on a tight budget, this can be an okay option, as long as you’re okay with the performance disadvantages.

How is Beautyrest Silver DualCool Different?
The Beautyrest Silver DualCool is a 14.50″ hybrid mattress with an overall performance level that is significantly below average, but a price that is also significantly below average. The result is a lower performance mattress, but one that also saves sleepers over $850 compared to the average queen mattress.
Advantages
Aside from the obvious cost savings, other advantages of the DualCool include faster off-gassing and a slightly better sex score.
Neutral Factors
This mattress has deep sinkage and a moderate level of bounce. Both of these are considered “neutral” since these factors are fairly preferential.
Response time is also right at the average level, making it a bit of a neutral factor as well.

Disadvantages
Disadvantages include worse cooling, higher levels of motion transfer, and worse edge support when lying at the edge of the mattress.
Pressure relief was very disappointing, earning only a score of 6.0, where the average score is 8.6. For a hybrid, the price is low, but the overall performance is also considerably below average in many categories.
Cooling Test
The Beautyrest Silver DualCool has good cooling. During our tests, I felt a slight level of heat retention around my body, but it was nothing extreme.
Baseline Temp.
74.2° F
Max. Temp.
90.8° F
Ending Temp.
80.1° F
This mattress is a hybrid design, meaning we have layers of foam on top of a coil unit. The coil unit brings plenty of airflow into the mattress. In addition, the foam layers are primarily poly foam, except for a thin 0.50” memory foam layer. Using mostly poly foam is preferable to memory foam, as poly foam typically retains less heat.
Max. Temp.

Ending Temp.

- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
In our objective temperature tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 90.8° F. This is 0.7° warmer than the average of 90.1° F, based on all of our tests to date.
After getting off the mattress, the temperature declined by 5.6 degrees from minutes 0 to 1, which is 0.9 degrees cooler than the average 0 to 1 minute decline of 4.7 degrees.
Heat Dissipation Over Time

When we consider the combination of objective data, my subjective experiences, and an analysis of the materials, I’m confident in my view that cooling is good.
Sinkage Test
The Beautyrest Silver DualCool has deep sinkage. During our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 2.54″. This is 0.30″ more sinkage than the average sinkage depth of 2.24″, based on all of our tests to date.
Sinkage Depth
2.54″
Sinkage Feel
Deep
Body Contour
Balanced
The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

The mattress creates a balanced body contouring hug. While we do have a thicker-than-average comfort layer, 4.75” of the 5.25” comfort layer is poly foam. The poly foam creates a more balanced, even hug.
This is in contrast to comfort layers with more memory foam, which typically create a more dramatic and exacting hug. Beautyrest is marketing this as a hybrid mattress; however, in my view, it has more of an innerspring type feel.
The foams used are less body-conforming, highly responsive, and don’t feel particularly dense. This feel, in combination with the deeper sinkage, creates a situation where you feel more of the coil layers and, in general, a more innerspring style feel.
This isn’t good or bad, but it is a more specific feel. You’ll want to prefer more of an innerspring type of feel to enjoy this mattress.
Motion Transfer Test
The Beautyrest Silver DualCool has a moderate level of motion transfer. During our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 11.14 m/s². This is 26% more motion transfer than the average of 8.81 m/s².
Accel. Range
11.14 m/s²
Motion Duration
1.12 seconds
The higher motion is the product of the hybrid design and poly foam comfort layer. These particular poly foams are highly responsive, which is great for ease of movement.
However, the highly responsive, resilient, less dense, and springy nature of the poly foams means they deliver more bounce and aren’t able to mitigate motion as effectively.
The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.
In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.2 seconds. Motion declines thereafter, but we do see a modest secondary energy spike from 0.5 to 0.6 seconds.
By 1.12 seconds, we’ve returned to near-zero levels of energy, which is 0.23 seconds longer than the average motion duration of 0.89 seconds.
Motion Transfer Over Time

Both motion duration and motion intensity were worse than average. As a result, the total motion transfer experience leaves something to be desired.
Response Test
The Beautyrest Silver DualCool is a mixed bag for material responsiveness, with a very fast mostly recovered response time and a moderate fully recovered response time.
Mostly Recovered
0.3 sec.
Fully Recovered
1.2 sec.
In our mostly recovered test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.3 seconds, which is 0.11 seconds faster than the average of 0.41 seconds, based on all of our tests to date.
In our fully recovered responsiveness test, we measured a recovery speed of 1.2 seconds, which is 0.18 seconds slower than the average of 1.02 seconds. The mixed material responsiveness speeds are a product of the mixed foam types.
The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.
The poly foam and coils within the mattress spring back to shape effectively instantly.
However, the 0.50” memory foam layer below the pillow top takes longer to fully reform back to its original shape after it has been compressed. This memory foam layer is slowing down the total material recovery speed on the mattress.
Bounce Test
The Beautyrest Silver DualCool has a moderate level of bounce. During our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 9.10″. This is 0.36″ more bounce than the average of 8.74″, based on all of our tests to date.
Max. Depth
5.11″
Max. Rebound
3.99″
Total Bounce
9.10″
Hybrid mattresses typically create more bounce and that’s exactly what we measured here. While the mattress does use a thicker-than-average 5.25” comfort layer, the foams are almost all poly foam that is highly resilient, springy, and responsive.
Max. Sinkage Depth

Max. Bounce Height

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.
Those foams, in combination with the coil support layer, deliver a higher-than-average level of bounce. The increased bounce helps improve ease of movement and sex performance. However, it’s also a notable reason why motion transfer is worse.
Edge Support Test
The Beautyrest Silver DualCool has outstanding sitting edge support and fair lying edge support.
Max. Sinkage
3.00″
Lying Support
Fair
Reinforced Edge
Yes
In our sitting edge support test, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 3.00″. This is 0.91″ less sitting sinkage than the average of 3.91″, based on all of our tests to date.
The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

While lying directly on the edge of the mattress, I felt that the support was fair in all sleeping positions. The big problem with lying edge support is simply the pillow top cover design, which has a significant downward curvature at the edge.
The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.

Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.

The downward curving cover causes the body to lie at an angle, where you can feel that the part of the body nearest the edge is significantly lower than the part of the body nearer the middle of the mattress. This creates a significant weakening of lying edge support.
Notably, this mattress does contain a full perimeter of reinforced foam running along the edge of the mattress. Certainly, that edge support foam is helping, especially for sitting. All that said, the edge foam isn’t enough to overcome the weakened edge support created by the pillow top for lying on the mattress.
Sex Test
The Beautyrest Silver DualCool has good sex performance. First up, let’s talk about the things the DualCool does best. Noise is minimal, which enables stealthier sessions. In addition, edge support is outstanding, with just 3.00” of sitting edge sinkage.

A more robust sitting edge increases the usable surface area and is a boon for amorous activities. With good, but not amazing scores, we have both cooling and bounce.
Bounce measured in at 9.10”. That’s better than average, but only slightly. When it comes to sex, more bounce is almost always better and this mattress could have earned a better score with a higher level of bounce.
| Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bounce | 65% | 8.2 | High |
| Edge Support | 20% | 10 | Outstanding |
| Noise | 5% | 10 | Minimal |
| Pressure Relief | 5% | 6.0 | Mediocre |
| Cooling | 5% | 8.0 | Good |
Lastly, we have pressure relief, which is by far the weakest performer for sex. This mattress simply isn’t especially comfortable and lacks pressure relief, in my view.
Even so, the Silver DualCool performs well where it matters the most, specifically bounce and edge support. As a result, the overall sex experience is slightly better than average.
Pressure Relief Test
The Beautyrest Silver DualCool has a mediocre level of pressure relief. During our tests, I felt notable pressure points on my body and in general found the mattress to be uncomfortable.
Comfort Layer
5.25″
Support Layer
9.25″
The mattress is equipped with 5.25″ of comfort material, which is 0.93″ more comfort material than the average comfort layer thickness of 4.32″, based on all of our tests to date.
While I’m pleased to see a thicker-than-average comfort layer, I’m not pleased by the quality of the specific foams.

In all NapLab mattress tests, we make a point to cut the mattress open to examine the material layers. In that examination of the Silver DualCool, I am really disappointed with what I see.
The material quality looks and feels poor, both on the body and in-hand. The foams have a notable crunchiness to them like so many other mattresses we’ve tested from Costco.

Beyond what my hands and eyes can tell when I touch the foams, when I lie on the mattress, it just feels entirely uncomfortable. The crunchier foams feel more dried out and created notable pressure and discomfort during my tests.
Given the foam quality, I really don’t expect this mattress to last especially long, as lower-quality foams typically create earlier and deeper sagging / body impressions.
Pressure Map – Side Sleepers

| Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Side Sleepers | 0.10 | 0.50 |
Pressure Map – Back Sleepers

| Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |

| Back Sleepers | 0.06 | 0.33 |
Pressure Map – Stomach Sleepers

| Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Stomach Sleepers | 0.07 | 0.37 |
When I consider our objective pressure mapping tests, material thickness, material quality, and my subjective experience on the mattress, I’m confident most sleepers will find the pressure relief to be mediocre.
Off-Gassing Test
The Beautyrest Silver DualCool had a strong smell upon the initial arrival. The mattress smelled for 4 days. This is 3.3 days shorter than the average smell duration of 7.3 days.

Company
Beautyrest mattresses come with a 365-night trial period and a lifetime warranty. Shipping and returns are both free.
| Company Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Data |
|---|---|---|---|
| Returns | 40% | 10 | $0 |
| Trial Period | 30% | 10 | 365 nights |
| Warranty | 20% | 10 | Lifetime |
| Shipping | 10% | 10 | $0 |
| Country of Origin | 0% | USA |
Comparing 110+ brands tested to date, the average trial period is 180 nights, 185 nights less than Beautyrest offers. The average warranty is 13 years and 41% of mattresses offer lifetime warranties.

Costco mattresses are backed by a “100% Satisfaction Guarantee” policy. Under these terms, mattresses can be returned virtually any time after purchase for a full refund, assuming the mattress is in usable condition (ie: no tears, major stains, or water damage).
While Costco doesn’t call it a “trial period”, in my view, this is functionally the same as a trial period, since you’re able to return the mattress for essentially any reason and get a full refund. While Costco’s return policy doesn’t have a hard limit, we’ve listed it as 365 nights (this is the max we’ve seen other brands offer and also means it earns a 10/10 trial period score).
How firm is Beautyrest Silver DualCool?
The Beautyrest Silver DualCool is available in a single firmness. It has a medium feel, which is 5 out of 10 on our firmness scale.

Beautyrest is rating this as a plush mattress. While it is softer than most other Beautyrest models we’ve tested, I don’t think it is soft enough to be classified as plush.
Support & Sleeping Positions
Support on the Beautyrest Silver DualCool is fair. During our tests, I felt reasonably well supported, but I also felt significant pressure and discomfort, which weakens the total support experience on the mattress.
| Support Factor | Data |
|---|---|
| Comfort Layer | 5.25″ |
| Support Layer | 9.25″ |
| Firmness | Medium |
| Body Contour | Balanced |
| Zoned Support | No |
| Reinforced Edge | Yes |
For a mattress to create ideal support, it needs to create sufficient support, keeping the spine in a neutral alignment, while also creating sufficient comfort.
This mattress fails to deliver enough comfort, which creates pressure relief issues, which makes it hard to lie comfortably in the same position for an extended period of time. As a result, overall support on the mattress simply isn’t ideal, in my view.

Check out the table below to see the sleeper weights and sleeping positions that would be best suited for this mattress.
| Sleeper Weight | Stomach Sleeper | Side Sleeper | Back Sleeper |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under 150 lbs. | Maybe | Yes | Yes |
| 150-250 lbs. | Maybe | Yes | Yes |
| 250-300 lbs. | Maybe | Yes | Yes |
The mattress is equipped with a 9.25″ support layer. This is 1.35″ thicker than the average support layer thickness of 7.9″, based on all of our tests to date. This mattress has a medium feel, 5 out of 10 on our firmness scale.
This firmness is ideal for most body types and sleeping positions. That said, this mattress does also have a thicker-than-average sinkage depth at 2.54”.
While this depth is great for side sleepers, it could be a bit too much for some stomach and back sleepers, depending on your preferences.

Lastly, this mattress does not utilize zoned support. Instead, we have a consistent firmness from head to foot of the mattress.
Based on all of my tests to date, an analysis of the materials, and my subjective experiences, I’m confident that most sleepers will find support on the Beautyrest Silver DualCool is fair.
Design
The Beautyrest Silver DualCool is a 14.50″ hybrid mattress that comes in a single firmness option—Medium. That’s a 5 out of 10 on our firmness scale.
Beautyrest is marketing this as a soft / plush mattress. However, in my testing I found it had a medium feel, not a soft / plush feel.
This mattress is designed as a budget-friendly, high-profile hybrid for sleepers who want the look of a thicker mattress, but don’t want to spend over 1K to get it.
| Design Factor | Data |
|---|---|
| Type | Hybrid |
| Thickness | 14.50″ |
| Cover Type | Pillow Top |
| Weight | 91 lbs. |
| Has Handles | Yes |
| Fiberglass-Free | Yes |
| Ships in a Box | No |
The mattress has a pillow top cover and handles on the side, making it easier to transport or rotate the mattress for better longevity. It is also fiberglass-free.

This mattress is not vacuum-rolled in a box and instead arrives at its full size. For some sleepers who want a hands-free setup, this is a great option. While others may see it as a disadvantage, if you have to navigate tight stairwells or are moving with the mattress before you unpack it.

The Comfort Layer
The comfort layer is 5.25″ thick, including the pillow top cover, and also includes two additional foam layers. There is a 0.50″ memory foam directly below the pillow top cover, followed by a 2.0″ poly foam.

These two foams, combined with the pillow top cover, give the DualCool hybrid a thicker comfort layer than average. For reference, the average comfort layer is 4.31″ thick.
The Support Layer
The support layer is 9.25″ thick and made of an 8.0″ pocketed coil unit, with reinforced coils used at the perimeter of the mattress. At the base of the mattress is a 1.25″ fiber batting.

Product Evolution

There isn’t an official “release day” publicly stated by Beautyrest or Costco, but this model has been on the market for a couple of years now and continues to be sold while supplies last.
The Beautyrest Silver collection dates as early as 2017, with the brand making slight modifications and releasing new sub-models within the collection over the years.
