Our Verdict
The Beautyrest BR800 is a 12.50″ Costco-Exclusive coil mattress made of a poly foam supported by coils. Although it does contain some foam and a plush pillow top, the BR800 is still considered to be a coil mattress.
The Beautyrest BR800 is available in a single firmness level — medium-firm. This firmness is a 6 out of 10 in our firmness scale, the most popular firmness among a wide range of sleepers.
This mattress has extremely deep sinkage and moderate levels of bounce. You will really need to enjoy lots of sinkage to find this mattress comfortable.
In our performance tests, this mattress earned an overall score of 7.54, ranking the mattress in the bottom 9% of all mattresses tested to date.
The Beautyrest BR800 is $500 for a full-sized mattress. This mattress is not available in queen size (or larger). The average coil mattress is $964 for a queen-size, so the Beautyrest provides quite a bit of savings. But these savings do come at the expense of overall performance.

How is Beautyrest BR800 Different?
The Beautyrest BR800 is a 12.50″ coil mattress with an overall performance level that is significantly below average, but also a price that falls well below the average as well. For sleepers who are on a tight budget, aren’t picky about performance, and want a coil feel, the BR800 could be an option, and yet, it clearly leaves much to be desired.
Advantages
Aside from low price, other advantages of the BR800 include better edge support and a higher sex score.
Neutral Factors
This mattress has extremely deep sinkage and a moderate level of bounce. Both bounce and sinkage are neutral factors, as different sleepers will have different preferences.

Disadvantages
The Beautyrest falls short in many different areas, including worse cooling, very high levels of motion transfer, and slower response time.
Other disadvantages include poor pressure relief and strong off-gassing.
Cooling Test
The Beautyrest BR800 has good cooling. During our tests, I felt a slight level of heat retention around my body. Fortunately, it was nothing extreme or super hot.
Baseline Temp.
75.2° F
Max. Temp.
91.3° F
Ending Temp.
80.1° F
This mattress uses a thinner-than-average comfort layer, which, while not ideal for comfort and pressure relief, is beneficial for cooling.
With less foam, there is simply less material that can easily absorb and retain heat. In addition, we have a tall coil unit that helps bring more airflow into the mattress, further improving cooling.
Max. Temp.

Ending Temp.

- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
In my view, where this mattress struggles the most is with the foam quality. Overall, I’m really unimpressed with the foams. They look and feel cheap. Those foams seem to be holding onto more heat and simply not breathing especially well.
In our objective temperature tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 91.3° F. This is 1.2° warmer than the average of 90.1° F, based on all of our tests to date.
After getting off the mattress, the temperature declined by 4.8 degrees from minutes 0 to 1, which is 0.1 degrees cooler than the average 0 to 1 minute decline of 4.7 degrees.
Heat Dissipation Over Time

When we consider the combination of objective data, my subjective experiences, and an analysis of the materials, I’m confident in my view that cooling is good, but also far from great.
Sinkage Test
The Beautyrest BR800 has extremely deep sinkage. During our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 3.05″. This is 0.81″ more sinkage than the average sinkage depth of 2.24″, based on all of our tests to date.
Sinkage Depth
3.05″
Sinkage Feel
Extremely Deep
Body Contour
Balanced
The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

The mattress creates a balanced body contouring hug and has a more classic coil type of a feel. While it does have an extremely deep level of sinkage, the foams don’t wrap or significantly contour the body.
You can really feel the engagement of the coil layers below, which are highly springy and resilient. This isn’t good or bad, but it is a very specific feel. You’ll really need to love the feel of a classic coil / innerspring mattress to be comfortable on this mattress.
Motion Transfer Test
The Beautyrest BR800 has a very high level of motion transfer. During our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 15.44 m/s². This is 75% more motion transfer than the average of 8.80 m/s².
Accel. Range
15.44 m/s²
Motion Duration
1.15 seconds
The BR800 has a more classic innerspring mattress design and with that comes a massive increase in motion transfer. This mattress uses a thinner-than-average comfort layer and also foam types that aren’t especially dense.
This means there is less material that could disperse and reduce bounce and all that’s left is a tall 8.0” coil unit. That coil unit is creating significant bounce, energy, and motion.
The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.
In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.2 seconds. Motion declines thereafter, but we still see a significant secondary energy spike from 0.6 to 0.7 seconds.
Motion Transfer Over Time

By 1.15 seconds, we’ve returned to near-zero levels of energy, which is 0.27 seconds longer than the average motion duration of 0.88 seconds. Both motion intensity and motion duration are considerably worse than average. As a result, total motion transfer on the mattress is very high.
Response Test
The Beautyrest BR800 is a mixed bag for material responsiveness, with a fast mostly recovered response time and a moderate fully recovered response time.
Mostly Recovered
0.4 sec.
Fully Recovered
1.1 sec.
In our mostly recovered test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.4 seconds, which is 0.01 seconds faster than the average of 0.41 seconds, based on all of our tests to date.
In our fully recovered responsiveness test, we measured a recovery speed of 1.1 seconds, which is 0.09 seconds slower than the average of 1.01 seconds.
The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.
While these material recovery speeds aren’t instant, they aren’t slow either. The combination of poly foam instead of memory foam, a thinner-than-average comfort layer, and a tall coil unit is all working together to deliver quick material recovery.
This average material recovery speed is more than fast enough to facilitate good ease of movement and prevent any type of a “stuck” feeling on the mattress.
Bounce Test
The Beautyrest BR800 has a moderate level of bounce. During our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 9.45″. This is 0.70″ more bounce than the average of 8.75″, based on all of our tests to date.
Max. Depth
5.81″
Max. Rebound
3.64″
Total Bounce
9.45″
The higher-than-average bounce is a product of the thinner-than-average comfort layer and tall 8.0” coil unit.
This mattress has a more traditional coil, innerspring style feel and that feel creates considerable bounce, springiness, and resiliency on the mattress.
Max. Sinkage Depth

Max. Bounce Height

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.
The increase in bounce helps to facilitate ease of movement and improve sex performance. However, that higher bounce is also part of the reason why motion transfer is higher.
Edge Support Test
The Beautyrest BR800 has excellent sitting edge support and excellent lying edge support.
Max. Sinkage
3.25″
Lying Support
Excellent
Reinforced Edge
Yes
In our sitting edge support test, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 3.25″. This is 0.67″ less sitting sinkage than the average of 3.92″, based on all of our tests to date.
The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

While lying directly on the edge of the mattress, I felt that the support was excellent in all sleeping positions. This mattress is equipped with support foam that wraps the entire perimeter of the mattress.
That support foam is doing some serious heavy lifting, at least for lying edge support, where it is notably improving performance.
The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.

Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.

Overall, I’m really pleased and impressed with the level of edge support. Often, cheaper mattresses can really struggle with edge support.
However, in this case, the perimeter edge support foam seems to be having an outsized and positive impact on edge support performance.
Sex Test
The Beautyrest BR800 has good sex performance. First, let’s talk through the positives. Noise was minimal while edge support earned an excellent score.
With just 3.25” of sitting edge sinkage, the edge is a well-supported and usable part of the mattress. In addition, both cooling and bounce earned good scores.

We measured bounce at 9.45”, which is notably more than average. The higher-than-average bounce level helps to facilitate amorous activities by making it easier and less tiring to have sex on the mattress.
| Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bounce | 65% | 8.4 | High |
| Edge Support | 20% | 9.7 | Excellent |
| Noise | 5% | 10 | Minimal |
| Pressure Relief | 5% | 6.0 | Mediocre |
| Cooling | 5% | 8.0 | Good |
The one area where performance lacks is pressure relief. Overall, I am just not impressed with the quality of the comfort foams and the feel they provide for both sleep and during amorous activities.
Those foams set the stage of a mediocre level of pressure relief and have a negative impact on sex performance.
Even so, pressure relief is a relatively small part of sex performance, and the other 4 factors combine to deliver an above-average level of sex performance.
Pressure Relief Test
The Beautyrest BR800 has a mediocre level of pressure relief. During our tests, I felt notable pressure points on my body. In general, I did not find the mattress to be comfortable.
Comfort Layer
3.50″
Support Layer
9.00″
The mattress is equipped with 3.5″ of comfort material, which is 0.81″ less comfort material than the average comfort layer thickness of 4.31″, based on all of our tests to date.
In all mattress tests, we make a point to cut the mattress open to examine the material layers. In doing so, I was extremely disappointed by the quality level of the foam layers.

The foams look and feel incredibly cheap and low-quality. When I run my fingers across the foams, I can feel and hear how dry they are.
There is a notable “crunchiness” to the foams, which is something I typically associat with lower-quality foams and foams that are at the end of their usable life.
I am really concerned that this mattress will not last especially long and will develop problems with sagging and body impressions more quickly.
Pressure Map – Side Sleepers

| Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Side Sleepers | 0.07 | 0.27 |
Pressure Map – Back Sleepers

| Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |

| Back Sleepers | 0.05 | 0.50 |
Pressure Map – Stomach Sleepers

| Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Stomach Sleepers | 0.05 | 0.21 |
When I consider our objective pressure mapping tests, material thickness, material quality, and my subjective experience on the mattress, I’m confident most sleepers will find the pressure relief to be mediocre.
Off-Gassing Test
The Beautyrest BR800 had a strong smell upon initial arrival. The mattress smelled for 11 days. This is 3.7 days longer than the average smell duration of 7.3 days.

Company
Beautyrest mattresses come with a 365-night trial period and a 10-year warranty. Shipping and returns are both free.
| Company Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Data |
|---|---|---|---|
| Returns | 40% | 10 | $0 |
| Trial Period | 30% | 10 | 365 nights |
| Warranty | 20% | 8.0 | 10 years |
| Shipping | 10% | 10 | $0 |
| Country of Origin | 0% | USA |
Comparing 107+ brands tested to date, the average trial period is 170 nights. The average warranty is 13 years, which is 3 years more than this mattress, and that’s if we exclude the 41% of mattresses that offer lifetime warranties.

Costco mattresses are backed by a “100% Satisfaction Guarantee” policy. Under these terms, mattresses can be returned virtually any time after purchase for a full refund, assuming the mattress is in usable condition (ie: no tears, major stains, or water damage).
While Costco doesn’t call it a “trial period”, in my view, this is functionally the same as a trial period, since you’re able to return the mattress for essentially any reason and get a full refund. While Costco’s return policy doesn’t have a hard limit, we’ve listed it as 365 nights (this is the max we’ve seen other brands offer and also means it earns a 10/10 trial period score).
How firm is Beautyrest BR800?
The Beautyrest BR800 is available in a single firmness, giving the mattress a medium-firm feel. In our firmness tests, this is 6 out of 10 on our firmness scale.

This feel is generally suitable for the widest range of sleepers, as it provides a nice balance of support and pressure relief.
Support & Sleeping Positions
Support on the Beautyrest BR800 is mediocre. During our tests, I felt that support was significantly lacking.
For a mattress to create ideal support, it needs to fully support the body, keeping the spine in neural alignment, while also providing sufficient comfort. In my view, this mattress failed to deliver in both of these areas.
| Support Factor | Data |
|---|---|
| Comfort Layer | 3.50″ |
| Support Layer | 9.00″ |
| Firmness | Medium-Firm |
| Body Contour | Balanced |
| Zoned Support | No |
| Reinforced Edge | Yes |
With respect to pressure relief specifically, I found this mattress is simply uncomfortable and created notable pressure points.
The foam quality is severely lacking, and beyond being uncomfortable today, I fear that with time the foam quality is going to be an increasing problem. This mattress will be more likely to develop problematic body impressions and sag more quickly and deeply.

These pressure relief issues are compounded by a general lack of support. This mattress has an astounding 3.05” of sinkage into the mattress. This is the 11th deepest sinkage we’ve measured to date.
Deeper sinkage doesn’t necessarily mean support will be worse, but when you have deeper sinkage, it typically also requires more robust materials to make sure the body is well supported.

Check out the table below to see the sleeper weights and sleeping positions that would be best suited for this mattress.
| Sleeper Weight | Stomach Sleeper | Side Sleeper | Back Sleeper |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under 150 lbs. | No | Maybe | No |
| 150-250 lbs. | No | Maybe | No |
| 250-300 lbs. | No | Maybe | No |
In my view, this mattress just doesn’t provide the level of support needed to create ideal comfort. This very deep sinkage means this mattress isn’t a great choice for stomach or back sleepers.
In my view, this sinkage depth works best for side sleepers. The mattress is equipped with a 9.0″ support layer. This is 1.09″ thicker than the average support layer thickness of 7.91″, based on all of our tests to date.

Lastly, this mattress does not utilize zoned support. Instead, we have a consistent firmness from head to foot.
Based on all of my tests to date, an analysis of the materials, and my subjective experiences, I’m confident that most sleepers will find support on the Beautyrest BR800 to be mediocre.

The Cover
The Beautyrest BR800 has a 2.5″ thick pillow top cover. It is soft to the touch and has quilted accents on the top of the mattress. Given the overall thickness of the cover, this mattress has deeper sinkage and a very plush feel.

The Comfort Layer
The comfort layer is 3.50″ thick, which includes the 2.5″ pillow top cover as well as the 1.0″ poly foam layer below the cover.

There is a blended fiber batting layer that separates the cover from the poly foam comfort layer.
The Support Layer
The support layer is 9.00″ thick and made of 8.0″ pocketed coils followed by a 1.0″ support foam base. This is a pretty standard support layer that we see on coil mattresses as well as many hybrids.

Product Evolution
The Beautyrest BR800 launched in 2019.
During the years since launch Beautyrest has sold a number of different versions, including a firm, medium, and plush pillow top. In addition, certain models / SKUs were only sold at specific retailers, including the Beautyrest BR800 Greenwod Firm (at Mattress Firm).
The exact design changes and differences from model to model and retailer to retailer are unclear.
