How is the Allswell Cool Different?
Wondering how the Allswell Cool mattress separates itself from other hybrids in the industry? Check out the quick points below:
#1. Budget
The Allswell Cool offers a cooling hybrid for under $1,000. This is a pretty big ask with the current market. If budget is one of the biggest drivers in deciding then the Allswell may certainly fit the bill.

#2. Balanced Feel
This mattress uses a great blend of materials that combine to produce a balanced feel. The top poly foam is great for fast response, memory foam helps with pressure relief, and the support coils provide fantastic ounce.
Cooling Test
Cooling performance on the Allswell Cool mattress is good, but it’s not a miracle worker. During our tests, I did not feel any significant level of heat retention.
Baseline Temp.
80.2° F
Max Temp.
88.0° F
Ending Temp.
84.7° F
However, our objective surface level temperature measurements leave something to be desired.
Max Temp.

Ending Temp

- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
In terms of design, the Allswell has a lot going for it that helps keep it cooler. Most importantly, it has a relatively thin foam comfort layer. The more foam in a mattress, the greater potential for heat to be absorbed into said foam.
The Allswell Cool uses 3.0” of comfort foam on top of coils. While only 3.0” of foam does limit the pressure relief potential, in terms of cooling, it is beneficial.
The 8.0” pocketed coil layer creates plenty of airflow.
These two design elements work together to keep the mattress cooler. Looking at our objective data, we measured a maximum surface level temperature of 88.0° F. This is notably better than the average max temp (based on all of our tests to date).
While I’m pleased that the max temperature is better than average, the heat dissipation curve data is concerning.
From minutes 0 to 1 we measured a temperature decline of 2.0° F. On average, we typically see mattresses reduce 3.8° F from minutes 0 to 1.
Heat Dissipation Over Time
Time Elapsed | Temperature |
---|---|
1 minute | 86.0° |
2 minutes | 85.2° |
3 minutes | 84.9° |
4 minutes | 84.6° |
5 minutes | 84.7° |
The temperature step-down from minutes 1 to 5 continued gradually, but only very slightly. Over the 5-minute recording period, we measured a 3.3° F reduction. On average, mattresses typically are able to reduce their surface level temperature by 6.4°.
While I was pleased with my subjective cooling experience on the mattress, when we assess the objective data it’s a less than great cooling performance for the Allswell.
Sinkage Test
The Allswell Cool has a deep level of sinkage. In our tests, we measure a sinkage depth of 2.43”. This is 0.21” deeper than the average sinkage based on all of our tests to date, which is 2.22”.
The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

There is a fairly deep level of sinkage for heavier weighted parts of the body. Butt, mid-section, shoulders, and basically anywhere that my body is poking into the mattress, it allows for more sinkage and a deeper contour.
The contour is fairly balanced. While it does use a 1.5” memory foam layer in the core, it’s still a more generalized and restrained feeling. Only having 3.0” of foam will create this type of a feel.

Furthermore, placing poly foam on top of a memory foam core reinforces said feel. The feel is far more traditional compared to many hybrid and all-foam mattresses I’ve tested. It’s not bad, it’s just closer to a more traditional coil mattress.
For those who prefer a more classic feel, the Allswell Cool can be a great option.
Motion Transfer Test
The Allswell Cool has a high level of motion transfer. In our tests, we measured 12.05 m/s² of acceleration range. This is nearly double the average motion transfer we have tested to date (based on all of our tests).
The level of motion transfer is documented in the video below.
On average, we have measured 6.42 m/s² of acceleration range. When we consider the material layers and design of the mattress this level of motion isn’t surprising. The Allswell Cool only uses 3.0” of comfort material on top.
Furthermore, the top most layer is a responsive poly foam. Neither the total foam thickness nor the responsive polyfoam are doing much to absorb energy.
As a result, you have a thinner, more responsive layer on top of a coil unit. These materials together create more motion.
Max. Acceleration
4.98 m/s²
Min. Acceleration
-7.07 m/s²
Accel. Range
12.05 m/s²
In the sinkage section, I wrote that the mattress has a more traditional coil-type feel. Coil mattresses are also known for their less-than-great motion transfer. If we look at our motion transfer chart we can see motion peaks between 0.00 and 0.21 seconds.

A moderate level of motion persists up until 0.71 seconds and it’s 1.28 seconds before motion returns to near zero levels. Both the motion peaks and motion duration are well above the low motion thresholds I look for.
The mattresses with the least motion transfer have a total acceleration range of 2-4 m/s² and are able to disperse all significant energy within 0.3 seconds. Suffice to say, the Allswell Cool is significantly worse than this mark.
If you sleep with a partner who is easily disturbed (or perhaps you are that partner) the Allswell may not be an ideal choice.
Response Test
The Allswell Cool mattress has a fast response time. In our tests, we measured a mostly recovered response time of 0.4 seconds and a fully recovered response time of 1.1 seconds.
Mostly Recovered
0.4 sec.
Complete Recovery
1.1 sec.
The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.
The mostly recovered measurement is slightly faster than average, while the fully recovered response time is slightly worse than average.
Based on all of our tests to date, we have measured an average mostly recovered response time of 0.52 seconds and an average fully recovered response time of 0.97 seconds.

While these aren’t the absolute fastest material response times we’ve tested, they are still more than speedy enough for the vast majority of sleepers.
Response simply needs to be fast enough to adapt to changes in movement to help aid in adaptive support and ease of movement. To those ends, the Allswell Cool is plenty fast enough.
Bounce Test
The Allswell Cool mattress has a very high level of bounce. In our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 10.89”.
In general, I like to see mattresses with 8-12” of total bounce. Bounce within this range is enough to see the benefits of bounce while avoiding excess motion or a trampoline feel.
Max. Depth
5.72″
Max. Rebound
5.17″
Total Bounce
10.89″
While the mattress doesn’t avoid the excess motion, it’s far from a trampoline feel. The bounce feels quite balanced within the larger context of overall mattress performance.
Max. Sinkage Depth

Max Bounce Height

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.
With a little more bounce the mattress is easier to move around on, enjoys a more traditional feel, and is better for sex. Allswell’s 10.89” of bounce is well within the bounce sweet spot that we look for.
Edge Support Test
The Allswell Cool has good edge support sitting and better support for lying. In our sitting edge support tests, we measured a total sinkage of 4.0” while sitting directly on the edge.
Max Sinkage
4.00″
Lying Support
Excellent
This is 0.61” less sinkage than the average (less is always better) of 4.61”. Ideally, I like to see 4.0” of sitting sinkage or less.
The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

Less sinkage while sitting on the edge means greater support, which makes the edge more comfortable to sit on while watching tv, getting ready, lounging, and amorous activities.
Edge support while lying directly on the edge is equally as impressive. While lying on the edge I felt well supported in all sleeping positions.
The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.

Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.

The Allswell uses a Quantum Edge coil system from Legett & Platt.
This coil system is one of the most popular in the world and used by numerous mattress brands due to its excellent support, in addition to the reinforced coils along the edge.
Sex Test
To score sex performance we look at a number of different factors that all play a role in quality sex. Three of the most important factors include:
Sex Bounce
10
Edge Support
9.5
Noise
10
In addition to the factors above, there are a few other things to consider as well, like pressure relief and cooling.

Here’s a look at our complete sex formula:
Sex Score Formula = (Bounce * 0.6) + (Edge Support * 0.2) + (Noise * 0.1) + (Pressure Relief * 0.05) + (Cooling * 0.05)
We use the following scores, plugged into the formula, to derive a sex score for each mattress.
Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
---|---|---|---|
Bounce | 65% | 9.3 | Very High |
Edge Support | 20% | 8.8 | Good |
Noise | 5% | 10 | Minimal |
Pressure Relief | 5% | 9.0 | Excellent |
Cooling | 5% | 8.0 | Good |
This mattress has fantastic bounce, which is great for sex performance. It also offers minimal noise and good edge support.

Overall, based on these features, it’s no surprise that the Allswell scored high for sex.
Pressure Relief Test
Pressure relief on the Allswell Cool mattress is excellent. During our tests, I felt ample pressure relief in all sleeping positions.
Comfort Layer
3.0″
Support Layer
9.0″
For most sleepers and body types, the design and material layers of the Allswell will create enough pressure relief.
However, I am concerned for larger weighted sleepers, especially over 250 pounds.
Larger bodies put more pressure on the mattress, which requires greater material thickness and/or material density to create proper pressure relief.
With only 3.0” of total comfort foam that’s just not enough to create ideal pressure relief for heavier bodies.

If you’re over 250 pounds I would advise caution when considering this mattress, especially for side sleepers.
For lighter and moderate weight bodies I am less concerned about the 3.0” comfort layer.
For most non-heavy weight sleepers it will be sufficiently thick enough to create a proper level of pressure relief.
Off-Gassing Test
Off-gassing on the Allswell Cool was good, but a little longer than average.
Initial Smell Strength
Strong
Off-Gassing Period
6 days
Out of the box, the smell was pretty strong. It took 6 full days for the mattress to completely off-gas.

To help speed up this process, set up your mattress in a well-ventilated room and leave off any bedding. This increased the airflow circulating through the mattress and may allow it to off-gas faster.
Company
As a company, Allswell offers a 100-night trial period and a 10-year warranty. Shipping and returns are both free.
Company Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Data |

How firm is the Allswell Cool?
The Allswell Cool mattress is a 5 out of 10 on the firmness scale. It has a standard medium feel, but would be considered slightly softer than other medium-firm mattresses that often come in around a 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale.

Support & Sleeping Positions
Overall, I found support on the Allswell Cool mattress to be excellent. During our tests, I felt well supported in all sleeping positions.
My primary support concern is for heavier weighted sleepers. My concern is centered around the same basic material layer choices that create potential problems for pressure relief.
With only 3.0” of comfort foam, heavier bodies are more likely to sink straight through those and into the more supportive coil system.
Sleeper Weight | Stomach Sleepers | Side Sleepers | Back Sleepers |
---|---|---|---|
Under 150 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
150-250 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
250-300 lbs. | Maybe | Maybe | Maybe |
While I have no doubts in the coil system’s ability to support sleepers, the greater issue lies in the potential pressure relief problems.
Mattresses that cannot fully relieve pressure end up creating pressure points for sleepers due to a more abrupt body engagement with the support layers (the pocketed coil unit in this case).

These pressure points can then negatively impact the overall support performance. All that to say, in my view, the Allswell Cool will create perfectly acceptable support for sleepers up to 250 pounds.
However, for sleepers over 250 pounds, I am concerned it has the potential to create pressure point issues and therefore support issues as a consequence.
Design
The Allswell Cool mattress is a 12″ high mattress that is designed for a balanced feel and cooling performance.
It has a medium feel and a firmness of 5 out of 10 on the firmness scale. Overall, it’s a nice option for a wide range of sleepers with varying preferences.

How does it feel?
The Allswell Cool has a more traditional feel, like innerspring mattresses. The foams are fairly restrained in their contouring hug due to the style of cover and relatively thin comfort layer of only 3.0”

Materials
The Allswell Cool has four layers of material.
From top to bottom, here is the breakdown:
- 1.5″ copper poly foam
- 1.5″ memory foam
- 8.0″ pocketed coils
- 1.0″ support foam

The Cover
The cover of the Allswell Cool mattress is a 1.0″ quilted gel cooling fabric with a diamond-tufted pattern.

The sides of the mattress use a reinforced fabric in a darker color that helps to provide structure to the mattress and contrast, aesthetically.
The Comfort Layer
The comfort layer of the Allswell Cool mattress includes two layers of foam. On the top layer is a 1.5″ copper memory foam for reinforced cooling and fast response.
The second layer is a 1.5″ memory foam layer for pressure relief and contour.

Both of these layers work together to create a balanced feel and ease the transition into the coil support layer below.
The Support Layer
The support layer of the Allswell is an 8.0″ thick pocketed coil system. These coils are individually encased in a thin fabric which allows the coils to move independently from one another.

Product Evolution
The Allswell mattress was introduced in 2018 with a focus on providing low-cost, bed-in-a-box options. The company launched with a handful of products, but the Allswell Cool didn’t hit the mattress market until Summer of 2022.
The Allswell Cool is a higher price point than the original Allswell, but for sleepers who are specifically looking for improved cooling performance vs. the original Allswell, it’s the better option.
There have been no major design, material, or construction changes to the Allswell Cool mattress since it launched in the Summer of 2022.
Other Mattresses to Consider
For three other top-rated options similar to the Allswell Cool, you may want to check out one of the mattresses below.
For Luxury

Bear Elite Hybrid
2″ Quilted Cover, 14″ High
The Bear Elite Hybrid has a 14″ profile and a 5″ comfort layer. Like the Allswell, it has a balanced feel, but much more of a luxury feel. The 2″ quilted cover alone is 2X the thickness of the cover on the Allswell.
For Firmness

Nest Bedding Sparrow
Interchangeable Firmness Levels
The Nest Bedding Sparrow comes in three different firmness levels. If you prefer a softer or firmer feel than the 5 out of 10 on the Allswell, Nest Bedding is a great option.
For Larger Sleepers

Winkbed
5.0″ of Comfort Material
The Winkbed mattress is a higher-profile hybrid than the Allswell and also comes with a higher price tag. But if you’re specifically looking for maximum pressure relief and support for heavier sleepers, the Winkbed is a fantastic option.

The Allswell Cool mattress is covered by a 10 year warranty. As such, we expect the mattress to remain supportive for at least 10 years.
One Allswell mattress is made in Phoenix, AZ, but most of their other products are made within a larger network of “mills, artisans and suppliers from all over the world”. It’s unclear exactly where they are manufactured.
Yes. Walmart owns Allswell although the Allswell website doesn’t emphasize this relationship on the Allswell site.
In 2018, Allswell sought to reach more ladies in their target market by renaming the traditional King-sized mattress to the “Supreme Queen”. On the site today, it’s simply called the “King” so it’s a little unclear what happened to the name change.
