Our Verdict

Both Loom & Leaf and Saatva mattresses come from the same parent company, Saatva, and therefore have a large number of similarities in terms of material, quality, performance, and price. Loom & Leaf is a luxury memory foam mattress and the Saatva lineup include a mix of coil, memory foam hybrid, latex hybrid, plus-sized, and even an adjustable model.

The Loom and Leaf is available in a Medium (5.5) firmness as well as a Firm (8) version. Saatva’s lineup ranges from soft (4) up to firm (8), with most models being around a medium (5) to medium-firm (6).

The Loom & Leaf is $2699 for a queen mattress. The average price among all Saatva mattresses tested to date is $2,698. This makes the Saatva average a bit higher than the Loom & Leaf price. That being said, of the 7 Saatva mattresses tested, 4 Saatvas have a price that is at or lower than the price of the Loom & Leaf (Saatva Classic, Saatva Contour5, Saatva Latex Hybrid, Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid).

The Loom & Leaf has a performance score of 8.75 and the Saatva average performance score is 9.24. In fact, all 7 tested Saatva mattresses have higher performance than the Loom & Leaf. However, if you specifically want a memory foam feel, Loom & Leaf has the obvious advantage.

Since all of these mattresses are produced by the same parent company, they are backed by a similar terms—a 365-night trial period and lifetime warranty.

Which Mattress Should You Buy?

The mattresses earning the title for “best overall” from each brand have the highest overall performance. Overall performance is determined by scores from 8 different categories including cooling, motion transfer, response time, edge support, sex performance, pressure relief, off-gassing, and company.

Sinkage and bounce are also taken into consideration, but they are not direct scoring factors.

Between Loom & Leaf and Saatva, the two top recommendations are Loom & Leaf and Saatva Classic.

The Saatva Classic is an 11.5″ coil mattress with two layers of coils, topped with a plush euro-style pillow top. It has a luxuriously soft feel with deep sinkage and extremely high bounce. The Saatva Classic is the #2 best mattress we’ve tested to date and is available in three firmness levels—Soft (4), Medium-Firm (6), and Firm (8). This high quality and variety of firmnesses make the Saatva an attractive option for a wide range of sleepers.

If you’re looking for the best-of-the-best between these two brands, I’d recommend the Loom & Leaf and Saatva Classic. Saatva has the higher overall performance and a lower price tag (34% less than the Loom & Leaf).

But they also have very different feels so it’s not all about the price and performance score. For a luxury memory foam feel with extremely deep sinkage and very low levels of bounce, Loom & Leaf is the better option.

Saatva Classic is a coil-on-coil mattress with deep sinkage and extremely high levels of bounce. If you want a mattress that is active and engaging, the Saatva Classic may be the better pick.

Both mattresses have exceptional pressure relief and high-quality materials.

For side sleepers, my top recommendations would be the Loom & Leaf and Saatva Classic. Side sleepers benefit from mattresses with thicker comfort layers and excellent pressure relief. Both of these mattresses scored a 10/10 in our pressure relief tests.

The Loom & Leaf is 12″ thick with a classic memory foam feel. It has great cooling, low motion transfer, extremely deep sinkage, and very low bounce.

Meanwhile, the Saatva Classic is a coil mattress with deep sinkage and extremely high bounce. They have dramatically different feels and also dramatically different price points.

The Loom & Leaf is $2699 for a queen and the Saatva Classic is $1799, a difference of 33.4% (or $900 in savings when you opt for the Saatva).

If you typically sleep on your back or stomach, you’ll want to opt for something with less sinkage. I’d recommend the Saatva Latex Hybrid. The Loom & Leaf could be an option if you’re a lighter-weight sleeper and don’t mind the deep sinkage of the Loom & Leaf.

Alternatively, you can go with the firm version of the Loom & Leaf, which will have less sinkage compared to the relaxed firm version that we tested.

The Saatva Latex Hybrid has a natural latex comfort layer, which gives the mattress a more generalized contour compared to the Loom & Leaf. This mattress has fantastic performance, scoring in the top 2% of all mattresses tested to date. The Saatva earns perfect 10/10 scores for low motion transfer, fast responsiveness, great edge support, and fast off-gassing.

For heavier-weighted sleepers, I’d recommend the Saatva HD. The Saatva HD is specifically designed to meet the needs of heavier-weighted sleepers.

The Saatva HD has a higher overall performance score (9.22) over the Loom & Leaf (8.75). It is also more expensive ($3,099 for a queen), but you’re getting a mattress that is better designed to support heavier bodies.

Again, the Loom & Leaf isn’t a bad mattress, but it’s just not designed for heavier sleepers. Materials are less responsive, it has extremely deep sinkage, and edge support struggles a bit as well. For these reasons, it would not be my top pick for sleepers over 250 lbs.

If cooling is a top priority for you, my top recommendations would be the Loom & Leaf and Saatva Classic. The Loom & Leaf earns a 9/10 for cooling and the Saatva Classic earns a 10/10 for cooling.

Loom & Leaf is a memory foam mattress, which is naturally not known for great cooling. And yet, for a memory foam mattress, the Loom & Leaf feels very cool and breathable. It has an organic cotton cover and cooling gel foam that helps limit heat retention and pull heat away from the body while you sleep.

The Saatva Classic has two layers of coils for maximum breathability and airflow. This mattress is active and engaging, while earning perfect 10/10 scores for cooling, edge support, pressure relief, and off-gassing.

For sleepers on a tight budget, I’d recommend the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid or Saatva Classic, although neither Loom & Leaf or Saatva brand are known as budget brands.

Both Loom & Leaf as well as Saatva are owned by the same parent company and uphold the same standards in terns of material quality, performance, and company warranties. Therefore, they have very similar price points.

The Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid and Saatva Classic have a similar price point floating between $1700-$1800/queen, depending on what deals and promos are going on.

If you struggle with back pain, my top picks would be the Loom & Leaf and Saatva RX. Both of these mattresses are high-quality mattresses, despite having different feels.

The Loom & Leaf is a 12″ memory foam mattress with extremely deep sinkage, very low bounce, and a Medium (5) or Firm (8) feel. It has a pressure relief score of 10 out of 10 with 4.5″ of comfort material above the support layer.

The Saatva RX is a 15″ hybrid with moderate sinkage and high bounce. This mattress has a Medium-Firm (6) feel and in our tests, the RX earned a 10/10 for pressure relief, backed by a 6.0″ comfort layer.

For couples looking for a mattress that enhances sex performance, I’d recommend the Saatva Classic.

In our performance tests, the Loom & Leaf earned a sex score of 6.1 and the Saatva Classic had a sex score of 9.9. This category is simply no contest.

For the best sex performance, we’re looking for high bounce, supportive edge, good cooling, good pressure relief, and minimal noise.

The Saatva Classic hits the nail on the head across all sub-categories and is a fantastic option for sleepers looking for better intimacy.

The Saatva Classic (soft version), rated a 4 out of 10 firmness, is the best soft mattress in this comparison. The Loom & Leaf has a Medium (5) or Firm (8) feel.

Check out our Best Soft Mattress guide for a full list of other mattresses we recommend instead.

The Saatva Classic (luxury firm version), rated a 6 out of 10 firmness, is the best medium-firm mattress in this comparison. The Loom & Leaf will be just a touch softer, 5.5 out of 10, with a medium feel.

  • Click here to read our full review of the Saatva Classic. (medium-firm)

Both the Loom & Leaf and Saatva Classic have a firm version of their mattress, rating an 8 out of 10 on the firmness scale.

Depending on the exact feel you’re looking for, either mattress could be a good match for you.

Firmness

Looking at all available mattresses we’ve tested, Loom & Leaf ranges in firmness from 5.5 to 8 out of 10, and Saatva mattresses range from 4 to 8 out of 10.

If you definitely want a soft feel, Saatva will be your best bet, but if you are looking for something between a medium and firm feel, either brand could work for you.

Not sure which firmness you need? Your ideal mattress firmness depends on two major factors—sleeping position and body weight. With the right firmness, your body and spine will maintain proper alignment when sleeping.

Lightweight sleepers or those who sleep on their side tend to need a softer mattress. By comparison, heavier sleepers or those who sleep on their back or stomach tend to need more support and a firmer feel.

Cooling Test

Considering cooling, both Loom & Leaf and Saatva have great performance. They have very limited levels of heat retention and are very breathable.

Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding cooling.

Cooling TestScoreBaselineMax. Temp.Ending Temp.
Loom & Leaf9.079.1°87.6°80.8°

  • Ending Temperature (after 5 minutes) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes

Below, you can watch a video of how the heat dissipates on each mattress during our cooling test. For this test, we lie on the mattress for 15 minutes, get off the mattress, and then take periodic surface-level temperature measurements.

Loom & Leaf

Saatva Classic

Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid

Saatva Contour5

The average cooling score across all mattresses tested to date is 8.7.

All 4 of the mattresses in this comparison have better performance than average. The Saatva Classic and Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid scored a 10/10 for exceptional cooling performance. Meanwhile, the Loom & Leaf and Saatva Contour5 were not far behind, with a score of 9/10.

Both the Loom & Leaf and Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid have high amounts of memory foam, which can retain more heat than other materials. That being said, both of these mattresses had great performance and the foams did not retain excessive heat.

Sinkage Test

Loom & Leaf has extremely deep sinkage and Saatva mattresses offer either deep sinkage or minimal sinkage, offering two drastically different feels.

Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding sinkage.

Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid

Loom & Leaf (2022) sinkage test

Saatva Contour5

Saatva Contour5 Sinkage Test

The average sinkage depth across all mattresses tested to date is 2.18″.

Back and stomach sleepers usually prefer less sinkage, which better maintains proper alignment of their spine. The Saatva Contour5 (1.85″) and Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid (1.88″) both have less sinkage than average and are also a good value.

Generally, side sleepers enjoy a deeper level of sinkage, as that typically translates to better pressure relief and contour. For deeper sinkage, opt for the Loom & Leaf (3.09″) or the Saatva Classic (2.4″).

Regardless of which depth you’re looking for, both sinkage levels have a mid-tier price option as well as a more luxurious option.

Motion Transfer Test

If motion transfer is a top priority for you, I’d recommend that you stick with the Loom & Leaf or Saatva Classic. These two mattresses have the lowest level of motion transfer

Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding motion transfer.

Motion Transfer TestScoreAcc. Range

The level of motion transfer on each mattress is also documented in the videos below.

Loom & Leaf

Saatva Classic

Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid

Saatva Contour5

The average motion transfer score across all mattresses tested to date is 8.2.

For the absolute lowest motion transfer, opt for the Loom & Leaf, which scored a 10/10 and had an acceleration range of only 5.02 m/s² in our tests. This is 43% less motion than the average mattress.

The 2nd best for low motion transfer is the Saatva Classic, with a score of 9.6 and an acceleration range of 5.86 m/s². Compared to the average mattress, this is still 33% less motion than average.

Both the Saatva Contour5 and Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid have higher levels of motion transfer than average. In our tests, we measured 10.11 m/s² on the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid and even more (12.29 m/s²) on the Saatva Contour5.

Response Test

Between these two brands, Saatva has a faster material response time. As mentioned above, memory foam isn’t really known for its fast recovery, so it’s not really a big surprise that the Loom & Leaf struggles.

Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding response.

Saatva Contour5

The average response score across all mattresses tested to date is 8.8.

Of these 4 mattresses, the Saatva Contour5 takes the win, being mostly recovered by 0.2 seconds and fully recovered by 0.4 seconds.

The Saatva Classic and Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid are not far behind, but have more of a near-average material responsiveness.

Loom & Leaf (2022) corner
Loom & Leaf (2022) corner

Meanwhile, the Loom & Leaf is considerably slower. The foam layers take longer than average to respond, but that feel is also what gives the mattress its iconic memory foam feel and viscoelasticity. If you’re looking for a memory foam feel, this won’t necessarily be a disadvantage.

Bounce Test

For bounce, Loom & Leaf and Saatva are on two opposite ends of the spectrum. The Loom & Leaf has very low bounce and Saatva offers either very low or extremely high bounce.

Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding bounce.

Bounce TestBounce FeelBounce Height
Loom & LeafVery Low4.72″
Saatva ClassicExtremely High14.67″

The level of bounce for each mattress is documented in the videos below.

Loom & Leaf

Saatva Classic

Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid

Saatva Contour5

The average bounce across all mattresses tested to date is 9.14″.

Mattresses with more bounce than average include the Saatva Classic (14.67″) and the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid (14.06″).

Mattresses with less bounce than average include the Loom & Leaf (4.72″) and the Saatva Contour5 (4.32″).

Mattresses with more bounce are better for ease of movement and increase sex performance. However, higher bounce also typically creates a higher level of motion transfer. So there are pros and cons when it comes to bounce.

Edge Support Test

For edge support, it’s hard to beat Saatva and the supportive feel that a coil base provides. Loom and Leaf’s memory foam design just can’t compete in this area.

Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding edge support.

Edge Support TestScoreSitting SinkageLying Support

Saatva Contour5 Edge Support

The average edge support score across all mattresses tested to date is 8.6, with 4.02″ of sinkage when seated at the edge of the mattress.

All three Saatva mattresses in this comparison have less sitting sinkage than average. The Saatva Classic and Saatva Contour5 both have only 3.0″ of sinkage and outstanding lying support.

Meanwhile, the Loom & Leaf has a sitting sinkage score of 7.5, with 6.25″ of sinkage when seated at the edge. Despite its deeper sitting sinkage, this mattress does have excellent lying support.

Sex Test

For top-notch sex performance, Saatva is the better option compared to Loom & Leaf.

Again, the inherent properties of memory foam are taking major strikes against the Loom & Leaf. This is not because Loom & Leaf is a bad mattress, but rather due to the feel of memory foam (mainly low bounce and weaker edges).

Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding sex.

The best mattresses for sex have high levels of bounce and supportive edges, are quiet and cool, and have good pressure relief.

Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid Edge Sitting
Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid edge support – sitting

Among these 4 mattresses analyzed, the Saatva Classic is the best for sex, with a sex performance score of 9.9, with the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid following close behind. Both of these mattresses have high bounce, fantastic edge support, and solid pressure relief and cooling.

The Loom & Leaf and Contour5 struggle the most with sex performance. Both of these mattresses have low bounce, which effectively kills the sex vibe.

Loom & Leaf (2022) edge support - sitting
Loom & Leaf (2022) edge support – sitting

The Contour5 does have good edge support, which is somewhat redeeming, but because bounce makes up 60% of the score, any mattress with low bounce will struggle in this category.

Pressure Relief Test

For good pressure relief, any of these mattresses could be a suitable fit. All 4 of these mattresses offer great support and limit pressure relief, regardless of your preferred sleeping position.

The Loom & Leaf, Saatva Classic, and Saatva Contour5 all have a thicker comfort layer than average, a largely contributing factor to the improved pressure relief.

The Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid has only 2.5″ of material, notably less than the 4.2″ average comfort layer thickness.

Off-Gassing Test

For off-gassing, both Loom & Leaf and Saatva have good options. Saatva, as a brand, ships all mattresses uncompressed, delivered full-sized to your address of choice.

Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding off-gassing.

The Loom & Leaf, Saatva Classic, and Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid all had no smell upon initial unboxing. This is very rare, considering that most mattresses take nearly a full week to completely off-gas (comparing 390+ mattresses tested to date).

Saatva Contour5 Materials
Saatva Contour5 Materials

The Saatva Contour5 is a memory foam mattress that had a stronger odor upon unboxing, with a smell that lasted for 3 days. While this is longer than the other mattresses, it’s still half the length of the average off-gassing duration. Especially for memory foam, 3 days isn’t too bad.

Company

Looking at the company data between these two brands, the numbers are very similar. Both Loom & Leaf and Saatva mattresses are produced by the same parent company, Saatva.
