Amerisleep relies on its BioPur foam for its primary comfort layer, which is plant-based, responsive, and breathable. All Amerisleep foams are CertiPur-US certified, which means they meet a number of strict regulations.

CertiPur-Us certified foams are:

  • Made without ozone depleters
  • Made without PBDEs or the following Tris flame retardants: TCEP, TDBPP, TDCPP or TEPA
  • Made without mercury, lead, and other heavy metals
  • Made without formaldehyde
  • Made without phthalates regulated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission
  • Low VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) emissions for indoor air quality (less than 0.5 parts per million)

We test every mattress for off-gassing odor as we unbox the mattress and record the smell intensity and duration of off-gassing. With Amerisleep, here were our findings.

As you can see, all Amerisleep mattresses still emit a strong odor out of the box and the smell lingers for about a week.

For some context, the average off-gassing duration is 6 days, the average of over 220+ mattresses tested to date.

Off-gassing smells are pretty typical of all boxed mattresses and are not necessarily signs of a toxic mattress.

For example, notice how the Amerisleep Organica, an organic latex hybrid, still off-gasses for 8 days, despite the use of fully organic materials (organic cotton, wool, and natural latex).
