Latex is naturally derived by extracting from the Hevea brasiliensis tree, otherwise known as the rubber tree. This tree is located within the Amazon Basin and supplies 90% of the natural rubber used commercially.
Natural latex mattresses are known for their responsiveness, higher levels of bounce, and typically firmer feel. Being more natural, latex mattresses can be a popular choice for sleepers looking for non-toxic or certified organic options.

Latex Brands Tested To Date
Each best list is put through a customized performance analysis with specialized consideration given to our objective & data-driven performance tests. In addition, we consider mattress type, design, materials, value, price, and more.

For our Best Latex Mattress list, we based our selections on the best-scoring mattresses, according to our battery of testing and formulaic-driven scoring.
Our tests analyze performance across 8 critical factors, including cooling, motion transfer, response time, edge support, sex, pressure relief, off-gassing, and company. In addition, we also test sinkage and bounce (though these are not scoring factors).
Our tests include objective and quantifiable data whenever possible. In addition, we use subjective assessment supported by data to round out our testing process.
Our scores are based on mathematical formulas and equations that utilize inputs from our data-driven testing.
In choosing the best latex mattresses we looked at the totality of all of our tests, scores, data, and reviews to date. We analyzed this data alongside our established best mattress framework here.
In addition to achieving a high-performance score, all mattresses on this list have 100% latex comfort layers, although the support layer may be latex or pocketed coils.
When selecting the best latex mattress, we’re looking at a combination of overall scoring performance, materials, and US availability.
To be included within this list all mattresses:
- Mattress must be an all-foam latex or latex hybrid.
- All mattresses must have an overall performance score of 8.73 or higher
- Mattress must be available for purchase within the USA
Outliers that met the criteria above, but were still excluded for other various reasons are listed below.
Mattress | Score | Reason |
---|---|---|
Birch Luxe | 9.03 | Brand duplicate; performance does not beat that of the original Birch |
Avocado Green | 9.00 | Brand duplicate; performance does not beat that of the Avocado Eco |
Spindle | 8.96 | Sleepers seem to have insufficient trust in the brand |
Nautrepedic EOS | 8.95 | Super high price tag—$4700 for a queen mattress |
Sheets & Giggles Eucalyptus | 8.79 | Sleepers seem to have insufficient trust in the brand |
One exception that was made to this set of rules is the Awara Original. The Awara has an overall performance score that falls below the cutoff (8.59) but also hits a budget price point, unmatched by any other mattress in this guide—under $1,000 for a queen mattress.
To accommodate the needs of all sleepers at a wider range of price points, we have included the Awara in this guide.

- Flippable design with 2-in-1 firmness
Considerations
- Priced 60% more than the average latex foam mattress
- Very minimal sinkage, may not be great for all side sleepers
- Sex score is below average with only moderate bounce
Our Verdict
The Zenhaven mattress is a 10″ latex foam mattress with a flippable design. It uses natural latex for both comfort material and support material, with a quilted cover.
This mattress has minimal sinkage and moderate levels of bounce. It offers that classic latex feel and doesn’t include any coils.

Birch Latex Hybrid

Best For
- Extremely low motion transfer, while retaining high levels of bounce
- Exceptional cooling with hole-punched latex layers
Considerations
- Edge support is good, but not great—4.5″ of sinkage when seated at the edge
- 3.0″ comfort layer is thinner than average, not ideal for heavier sleepers
- Only 100-night trial (average is 176 nights)
Our Verdict
The Birch mattress is an 11″ thick latex hybrid mattress with a blend of pocketed coils and organic latex (GOLS certified). The natural latex comfort layer is 2.0″ thick with an organic cotton cover quilted with wool.
It has moderate sinkage and extremely high bounce. The Birch offers deeper contour, while still having a firmer feel overall.
The Birch comes in a single firmness—7 out of 10, which gives it a slightly firm feel. For a softer feel, check out the Birch Luxe, which shares many similarities but has a thicker softer cover for a medium-firm feel (6 out of 10).
This mattress has an overall score of 9.44, ranking it in the top 3% of all mattresses tested to date. This is a fantastic performance, especially given the lower price tag.
Birch costs $1,499 for a queen, which is 5% less than the average latex hybrid. Having a below-average price paired with an above-average performance is the balance we like to see.

Nolah Natural

Best For
- Exceptionally good cooling
- Near instantaneous material response
- High bounce creates great sex performance
Considerations
- Edge support is only decent, with 4.75″ of sitting sinkage compression
- Medium feel and deep sinkage could be problematic for some stomach sleepers
- Pressure relief is good, but not great
Our Verdict
The Nolah Natural has an overall thickness of 11″ and an organic hybrid design—including an organic cotton cover, natural latex comfort layers, and a pocketed coil base.
This mattress has a deep level of sinkage and high levels of bounce. Being a latex hybrid, the Nolah also has a more generalized contour, compared to the exacting contour of traditional memory foam. So even though the sinkage is deep, this mattress does not create that “stuck” feeling.
This mattress is available in a single firmness—5 out of 10 with a medium feel.
The Nolah Natural has a performance score of 9.42, which ranks it in the top 3% of all mattresses tested to date.
In addition to higher performance, it also has a price tag that is below average ($1,365 for a queen), 13% less than the average latex hybrid (a savings of $212 for a queen size). Overall, the Nolah Natural is an outstanding value for a latex hybrid.

Avocado Eco

Best For
- Very high levels of bounce and a generalized contour
- Low motion transfer, 3.72 m/s² accelerometer range
- Organic materials at a fraction of the average cost
Considerations
- Edge support struggles with 4.25″ sinkage when seated at the edge
- Deep sinkage with very high bounce provides a very specific feel
- Shorter 100-night trial period
Our Verdict
The Avocado Eco is another 10″ thick latex hybrid option made with latex foam and pocketed coils.
The Avocado Eco also has deep levels of sinkage and very high levels of bounce. This is one of the highest levels of bounce we’ve tested of any mattress to date.
This mattress comes in a single firmness (6 out of 10) with a medium-firm feel.
In our performance test, the Avocado Eco has an overall score of 9.26. This ranks in the top 8% of all mattresses tested to date and the top 17% when looking exclusively at latex hybrids.
The Avocado isn’t a cheap mattress at $1,299 for a Queen. Even so, it is still 18% less expensive than the average latex hybrid price ($1,577). Overall, the Avocado Eco is a solid mattress and a great value considering the price-to-performance ratio.

Latex Mattress Factory Luxerion Hybrid

Best For

- Sleepers looking for a latex hybrid under $1,000 (queen)
Considerations

Our Verdict
The Latex Mattress Factory Luxerion is a 12″ latex hybrid mattress that has an organic cotton cover, Talalay latex comfort layer, and pocketed coil support layer.
It has moderate sinkage and moderate levels of bounce for a balanced feel. The Luxerion Hybrid measured at 9.96″ of total bounce height, which is just slightly more than average.

Winkbed EcoCloud

Best For
- Extremely fast response time
- Fantastic edge support
- Natural materials—Talalay latex and organic cotton cover
Considerations
- Extremely high bounce leads to higher levels of motion transfer

Our Verdict
The Winkbed EcoCloud mattress is a natural latex hybrid that contains 100% natural Talalay latex, pocketed coils, and an organic cotton cover.
It has deep levels of sinkage and extremely high levels of bounce. This mattress has a very distinct feel, similar to the Nolah Natural listed above. You’ll really want to love bounce and sinkage to enjoy the feel of the EcoCloud.
