Each best list is put through a customized performance analysis with specialized consideration given to our objective & data-driven performance tests. In addition, we consider mattress type, design, materials, value, price, and more.

For our Best Adjustable Mattress list, we based our selections on the best-scoring mattresses, according to our battery of testing and formulaic driven scoring.
Our tests analyze performance across 8 critical factors, including cooling, motion transfer, response time, edge support, sex, pressure relief, off-gassing, and company. In addition, we also test sinkage and bounce (though these are not scoring factors).
Our tests include objective and quantifiable data whenever possible. In addition, we use subjective assessment supported by data to round out our testing process.
Our scores are based on mathematical formulas and equations that utilize inputs from our data-driven testing.
In choosing the best adjustable mattresses we looked at the totality of all of our tests, scores, data, and reviews to date. We analyzed this data alongside our established best mattress framework here.
In addition to achieving a high-performance score, all mattresses on this list have the ability to adjust the firmness.
When selecting the best adjustable mattress, we’re looking at a combination of overall scoring performance, range of firmness, and US availability.
To be included within this list all mattresses:
- Had to have the ability to adjust the firmness of the mattress
- Had to be adjustable via an electronically controlled air pump. Flippable, manual layer swaps, and other manual adjustable mattresses were not considered as part of this round up.
- Had to have a performance score of 8.66 or higher.
- Had to be available for purchase within the USA.
An adjustable mattress could be defined in one of two ways—adjustable firmness or adjustable positions.
- Adjustable Firmness: A mattress with an adjustable level of firmness (usually by remote control or smartphone app).
- Adjustable Position: A mattress with an adjustable position has an adjustable base below the mattress that enables it to adjust position (IE, raise and lower head / feet). Most modern mattresses can be paired with an adjustable base.
This guide is going to specifically look at mattresses with adjustable firmnesses.

Saatva Solaire

Best For
- Luxury performance, this is the #1 best adjustable tested to date
- Exceptional cooling with very low levels of heat retention
- Wide firmness range—soft to firm (4-8 out of 10)
Considerations
- Extremely deep sinkage may be too dramatic for some back or stomach sleepers
- Expensive price point
- Worse sex score thanks to low bounce levels
Our Verdict
The Saatva Solaire is a 13″ adjustable mattress with a Euro-top cover, foam comfort layer, and adjustable air chamber support base. You can change the firmness of this mattress using a wireless remote control or through a smartphone app.
The adjustable firmness ranges from Soft (4) to Firm (8). This is an impressive range for sleepers who really aren’t sure what firmness is best for them.
We tested this mattress at the medium-firm level (6 out of 10) where we found the mattress to have an extremely deep level of sinkage and very low levels of bounce. This mattress has more contour than many others, which can be especially beneficial for side sleepers.
In our performance tests, the Solaire earned an overall score of 9.26, ranking the mattress among the top 7% of all mattresses tested to date and the #1 best adjustable mattress.
Of course, there is a price for performance, and the price isn’t cheap. A Queen Solaire is $4,599, which is 65% more expensive than the average adjustable mattress price. If you know you need adjustable firmness, this could be money well spent, but it’s certainly a feature you’ll pay big bucks for.

iSense Premier Hybrid

Best For
- Sleepers who want a pocketed coil support system
- Great pressure relief with air-filled chambers within the comfort layer
- Good cooling with limited heat retention
Considerations
- Deep sinkage, may not be ideal for all back or stomach sleepers
- Not ideal for sleepers looking for an extra soft or firm feel
Our Verdict
The iSense Hybrid Premier is a 13.5″ adjustable mattress with a thin cover, poly foam comfort layer, foam-wrapped air cylinders, and a pocketed coil base. You can adjust the mattress using a wireless remote control or a smartphone-enabled app.
The firmness of this mattress ranges from Soft (4.5) to Slightly Firm (7.5). This is a narrower firmness range than the Solaire, but still pretty broad. Since it has a coil support base, even the softer settings remain supportive.
When we tested the medium-firm settings, we found the iSense to have deep sinkage and a moderate level of bounce.
In our tests, the Hybrid Premier earned an overall score of 9.25, also ranking in the top 7% of all mattresses tested to date. This is a fantastic score from iSense, especially given the price point.
For a queen mattress, the iSense costs $2,999, nearly $1K less than the Saatva Solaire. While this is still priced higher than the average mattress, it also has higher than average performance. So it’s a case of “getting what you pay for”. If you want top-notch performance at a price that isn’t crazy high, the iSense is a good choice.

Personal Comfort Rejuvenate

Best For
- Fantastic pressure relief with deep sinkage (2.37″)
- Memory foam comfort layer with more dramatic contour
- Wide firmness range—soft to firm (4-8 out of 10)
Considerations
- Low bounce is problematic for good sex performance
- Mattress lacks support when lying at or near the edge
- 120-night trial period is shorter than average
Our Verdict
The Personal Comfort Rejuvenate is a 13″ adjustable mattress with a memory foam comfort layer, adjustable air chamber, and support foam base. Like the other mattresses listed in this guide, the Rejuvenate adjusts by adding or removing air from the central air chamber, using a remote or app.
It has a firmness range of 4 to 8 (out of 10), giving the mattress a Soft to Firm feel. This firmness range covers a very wide range of feels, making the mattress suitable for a wider range of sleepers.
When tested with a medium-firm feel (firmness level 30), the Rejuvenate has deep sinkage and low levels of bounce. Edge support when lying also provided a little more sinkage than we’d ideally like to see, but sitting edge support was very supportive.
In our tests, the Rejuvenate earned an overall score of 9.09, putting the mattress among the top 16% of all mattresses tested to date.
The price is a little high, $3,700 for a queen mattress, making it 33% more than the average adjustable mattress. But again, we see higher performance too so the cost could be justified to some sleepers.

Bryte Balance Pro

Best For
- Wide firmness range between 4 – 8, with app control
- Fantastic pressure relief performance with lots of customization
- Excellent cooling performance
Considerations
- Low bounce on all firmness levels, which lowers sex score
- Strong smell and long smell duration
- The most expensive on this list
Our Verdict
The Bryte Balance Pro mattress is a 15.50″ adjustable mattress made of 8 distinct material layers: a thin cover. memory foam, poly foam, foam-encased air cylinder zones, poly foam, support foam, and a final layer of support foam.
The Bryte Balance Pro is available in six firmness levels — soft, medium, medium-firm, slightly firm, and firm. The adjustability ranges from 0 to 100. The 0 has a soft feel (4 out of 10), and the firmest setting, 100, has a firm feel (8 out of 10). All tests were performed at 50% firmness.
Even at its firmest setting, Bryte offers deeper-than-average sinkage from the foam layers above the air cylinders. It also has low bounce, as there is very little rebound from the top layer of material.
In our performance tests, this mattress earned an overall score of 9.01, ranking the mattress in the 19% of all mattresses tested to date. We turned all of its customizable features and contour off while testing, but these features do meaningfully increase its value. However, the price tag is well out of reach of most sleepers.
The Bryte Balance Pro is $5,999 for a queen-sized mattress, which is 87% more expensive than the average adjustable mattress. Given the price and middling performance score, it’s difficult to justify choosing Bryte over other options. However, it will provide top-tier comfort and more customization than just about any other mattress on the market.

Personal Comfort Rego

Best For
- A value option compared to the Personal Comfort Rejuvenate ($1,000 in savings)
- Fantastic cooling performance with little heat retention
- Wide firmness range—soft to firm (4-8 out of 10)
Considerations
- More motion transfer than average (10.17 m/s²)
- Lower bounce levels hurt the sex performance score
- Slower off-gassing—takes 14 days to off-gas, 2X the average
Our Verdict
The Personal Comfort Rego is an 11″ adjustable mattress with a similar design to the Personal Comfort Rejuvenate, but with a thinner profile and lower price tag. It is easy to adjust using the wireless remote control or by using the Personal Comfort app.
Mattress firmness ranges from 4-8, giving the mattress a soft to firm feel. This matches the widest firmness range among all mattresses included on this list.
When tested with the mattress set to a medium-firm feel, the Rego has deep sinkage and low levels of bounce. Edge support was impressive as well, with the only real disadvantage being higher levels of motion transfer (10.17 m/s²).
In our performance tests, the Rego earned an overall score of 8.66, ranking in the bottom 49% of all mattresses tested to date.
This mattress is priced at $2,200 for a queen mattress, which is $1,500 less than the Personal Comfort Rejuvenate and 21% less than the average adjustable mattress price. While a few aspects brought down its overall score, the Rego is still close in performance to those higher on this list in many categories, while being signifciantly less expensive.
