Best For

  • Lower levels of motion transfer (only 6.79 m/s²)
  • Low price—under $500 for a queen mattress while maintaining near-average performance
  • Faster material response time

Considerations

  • 100-night trial period is shorter than average
  • Low bounce makes it less than ideal for good sex performance
  • Cooling is okay, but worse than average

Our Verdict

The SweetNight Coolnest mattress is a 15.5″ foam mattress made of a blend of comfort foams with a convoluted support foam base and a thin cover.

The mattress is available in a single firmness level — medium.

This mattress has moderate sinkage and low levels of bounce. It has a somewhat restrained feel and the lower levels of bounce can be less than ideal for couples looking for the best amorous activity performance.

In our performance tests, this mattress earned a spot in the bottom 32% of all mattresses tested to date. Although the performance isn’t incredible, the Coolnest’s bigger advantage is the low price tag.

The SweetNight Coolnest is $499 for a queen-sized mattress (14″ version), which is 54% less than the average foam mattress. This adds up to a savings of $589 compared to the average. If you’re on a tight budget and don’t mind giving up in some performance areas, the SweetNight Coolnest could be a perfectly fine option.

Please note – there are 3 versions of this mattress, 12″, 14″, and 16″. We tested the 16″ version. Pricing varies slightly between each version, with thinner versions being slightly less expensive.

How is SweetNight Coolnest Different?

The SweetNight Coolnest is a 15.5″ foam mattress with an overall performance level that is below average while having a price tag that is also below average. The result is a foam mattress designed for sleepers with lower budgets who don’t mind skipping out on some other bells and whistles.

Sweetnight Coolnest Relaxing
Sweetnight Coolnest Relaxing

Advantages

Beyond the price, other advantages of the SweetNight Coolnest include lower levels of motion transfer, faster material response time, and a thicker profile. The 15.5″ total thickness also allows for a thicker comfort layer, 5″ thick, which is 0.8″ thicker than the 4.2″ average comfort layer.

Neutral Factors

This mattress has moderate levels of sinkage and low levels of bounce. Edge support is very near-average as well, making it a bit of a neutral factor.

Disadvantages

Disadvantages of the Coolnest include worse cooling performance, lower sex score, and less-than-ideal company policies. This mattress has a shorter trial period and a shorter warranty as well.

8.0

Cooling Test

The SweetNight Coolnest has good cooling. During our tests, I felt a slight level of heat retention around my body, but it was pretty minor overall.

Baseline Temp.

73.6° F

Max. Temp.

91.0° F

Ending Temp.

78.4° F

The mattress is equipped with a cooling cover, which does have a notable cool-to-the-touch feel when you first lie on it. However, the cover loses much of the cool feel after you’ve been lying in the same position for a while. However, when changing position and moving to a new spot on the mattress you will have that cooler feel initially.

Max. Temp.

Ending Temp.

Sweetnight Coolnest After Cooling Test
Sweetnight Coolnest After Cooling Test
  • Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
  • Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
  • Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes

The cover also has a thinner design, which helps promote airflow. We also have a gel memory foam, which helps to resist heat retention.

All that said, while the gel memory foam and cooling cover are absolutely helping, they are no cooling miracle workers. This is still an all-foam design and uses more budget-friendly materials and foams. As a result, cooling performance just isn’t able to rise to the absolute best levels.

Heat Dissipation Over Time

Sweetnight Coolnest Heat Dissipation Chart

In our objective temperature tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 91.0° F. This is 1.2° warmer than the average of 89.8° F, based on all of our tests to date. When we consider the combination of objective data, my subjective experiences, and an analysis of the materials, I’m confident in my view that cooling is good.

Sinkage Test

The SweetNight Coolnest has moderate sinkage. During our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 2.12″. This is 0.05″ less sinkage than the average sinkage depth of 2.17″, based on all of our tests to date.

Sinkage Depth

2.12″

Sinkage Feel

Moderate

The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

Sweetnight Coolnest Sinkage Test

The mattress creates a dramatic body contouring hug. The thin knit cover allows the body to more significantly engage with the foam layers. Having a 2.0” gel memory foam creates a more exacting hug around the precise shape of your body.

Despite the more significant hug around the body, the sinkage depth isn’t overly deep. As a result, I did not feel trapped or “stuck” in the foam layers. The foam layers have a fast material responsiveness, which definitely helps as well.

9.2

Motion Transfer Test

The SweetNight Coolnest has a very low level of motion transfer. During our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 6.79 m/s². This is 22% less motion transfer than the average of 8.74 m/s².

Max. Acceleration

2.91 m/s²

Min. Acceleration

-3.88 m/s²

Accel. Range

6.79 m/s²

The Coolnest has a number of materials and design elements helping to reduce motion. First and foremost, the all-foam design is ideal for lowering motion, as foams simply disperse energy better than coils.

In addition, the thin, looser cover easily slides with sleeper movements, instead of tugging back and forth. Lastly, the mattress has a below-average level of bounce, which ensures new sources of energy and motion aren’t dramatic.

The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.

In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.14 seconds. Motion drops off significantly thereafter and by 0.94 seconds we return to near-zero levels of energy.

Sweetnight Coolnest Motion Transfer Chart
Sweetnight Coolnest Motion Transfer Chart

While the motion duration was longer than average, given the considerably below-average motion intensity, I’m not overly concerned by it. I expect most sleepers will find motion to be a non-issue on the Coolnest mattress.

9.7

Response Test

The SweetNight Coolnest has an extremely fast mostly recovered response time and a very fast fully recovered response time.

Mostly Recovered

0.2 sec.

Fully Recovered

0.6 sec.

In our mostly recovered test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.2 seconds, which is 0.23 seconds faster than the average of 0.43 seconds, based on all of our tests to date.

In our fully recovered responsiveness test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.6 seconds, which is 0.38 seconds faster than the average of 0.98 seconds.

The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.

At these speeds, the material response is essentially instant. The foams rebound back to shape incredibly quickly. The fast material response ensures the mattress is easy to move around on and avoids any type of a stuck feeling.

Bounce Test

The SweetNight Coolnest has a low level of bounce. During our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 7.26″.

Max. Depth

2.62″

Max. Rebound

4.64″

Total Bounce

7.26″

This is 1.98″ less bounce than the average of 9.24″, based on all of our tests to date. When we look at the material layers, it’s easy to see why we have such a low bounce.

We have an all-foam design with a thicker-than-average 5.0” comfort layer and a 2.0” layer of memory foam. Foams simply don’t return significant bounce and that is doubly true of memory foam.

Max. Sinkage Depth

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.

The lower bounce is the single biggest factor helping to reduce motion transfer. That said, lower bounce also has a negative impact on ease of movement and sex performance. As a result, there are pros and cons to consider with the bounce level.

8.4

Edge Support Test

The SweetNight Coolnest has good sitting edge support and good lying edge support.

Max. Sinkage

4.00″

Lying Support

Good

In our sitting edge support test, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 4.00″. This is 0.03″ less sitting sinkage than the average of 4.03″, based on all of our tests to date.

The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.

Sitting, 140 lbs.

Lying edge support has a similar performance level. While lying directly on the edge of the mattress, I felt that the support was good in all sleeping positions.

The biggest factor helping the SweetNight create better edge support performance is simply the total 15.5” profile.

The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.

This is considerably thicker than the average mattress height of 12”. All of the extra foam helps to create a more robust support when sitting or lying near the edge.

While edge support is far from incredible, it’s also perfectly fine and I don’t expect it will be an issue for most sleepers.

7.6

Sex Test

The SweetNight Coolnest has fair sex performance. On the positive side, noise is minimal, and edge support is good. With just 4.0” of sitting edge sinkage, the edge is supportive enough for most dances without pants.

Sweetnight Coolnest Edge Support Sitting
Sweetnight Coolnest Edge Support Sitting

In the middling performance we have cooling and pressure relief, both of which earned good scores, even if they aren’t amazing. Nevertheless, neither is critically important for sex performance, so they should be sufficient for most sleepers.

Sex FactorFactor WeightScoreRating
Bounce65%7.0Moderate
Edge Support20%8.8Good
Noise5%10Minimal
Pressure Relief5%8.0Good
Cooling5%8.0Good

Where the mattress struggles for sex performance is bounce. At 7.26” of bounce, the SweetNight Coolnest has considerably less bounce than average. That lower bounce makes sex more strenuous and difficult on the mattress. Bounce is the single biggest factor that’s detrimental to the score.

8.0

Pressure Relief Test

The SweetNight Coolnest has a good level of pressure relief. During our tests, I felt no significant pressure points on my body. Overall, I found the mattress comfortable to lie on.

The mattress is equipped with 5.0″ of comfort material, which is 0.84″ more comfort material than the average comfort layer thickness of 4.16″, based on all of our tests to date.

Comfort Layer

5.0″

Support Layer

10.5″

All of that extra foam has a big impact on comfort, as it helps create pressure relief and transitional support into the more supportive foundational layers.

When I cut open the mattress to examine foam quality I’m generally pleased with what I see. The foams are all of reasonably good quality and all foams feel good on the body and in hand.

Given the $500 price point, I’m more than pleased with both the quantity and quality of foam layers.

Sweetnight Coolnest Side Sleeping
Sweetnight Coolnest Side Sleeping

In our objective pressure mapping tests we measured a max PSI of 0.97. This is well below the high pressure point benchmark of a 2.0 PSI and well within the pressure range we want to see.

While pressure relief is no miracle worker, at this price point it does far more right than it does wrong.

When I consider the material thickness, material quality, and my subjective experience on the mattress, I’m confident most sleepers will find the pressure relief to be good.

8.3

Off-Gassing Test

The SweetNight Coolnest had a strong smell upon the initial unboxing. The mattress smelled for 6 days. This is 0.5 days shorter than the average smell duration of 6.5 days.

How firm is SweetNight Coolnest?

The SweetNight Coolnest is available in a single firmness level, medium.

Firmness Chart 5

The medium feel comes in at a 5 out of 10 on our firmness scale, where 10 is the most firm.

Support & Sleeping Positions

Support on the SweetNight Coolnest is good. During our tests, I felt well-supported in all sleeping positions. The mattress is equipped with a 10.5″ support layer.

This is 2.6″ thicker than the average support layer thickness of 7.9″, based on all of our tests to date. In addition, the support layer is cut with zonal channels.

These 5-zoned channels help create more appropriate support to the different parts of your body.

The mattress is available in a single firmness, medium. For the vast majority of sleepers, a medium feel is appropriate to create sufficient support and comfort for all sleeping positions.

Sweetnight Coolnest Corner 2

The Coolnest uses a simple, but proven design. This is a thicker-than-average 15.5” all-foam mattress that uses a 5.0” comfort layer. All of the extra foam layers, the thicker-than-average design, and the thicker-than-average comfort layer all contribute to the robust support the mattress is able to create.

The foam layers are able to deliver sufficient comfort, while gently transitioning bodies into the more supportive layers. Many cheaper mattresses struggle with support due to their limited comfort layer thickness, which can create a more abrupt feeling like your body hits a wall of sorts.

Suffice it to say, that’s not the case here and it’s a really solid performance, especially considering the price.

Based on all of my tests to date, an analysis of the materials, and my subjective experiences, I’m confident most sleepers will find support on the SweetNight Coolnest is good.

It is also a very budget-friendly mattress, in a market where it is pretty rare to find a reasonably good quality 15.5″ thick mattress for under $500.

If you’re specifically looking for a high-profile mattress and don’t have a lot to spend, the Coolnest could be an attractive option.

The Cover

The SweetNight Coolnest has a thin cover with an embossed arched pattern across the surface. It sits taut on the mattress and lacks any tufting details or quilted stitching.

Sweetnight Coolnest Top Corner

There are no handles on the sides and overall the mattress cover feels fairly basic—design decisions likely made to help keep the overall cost down.

The Comfort Layer

The comfort layer is 5.0″ thick and made of three layers of foam. On top, we see a 1.0” poly foam followed by a 2.0” memory foam (blue). This second layer has some small channels cut for better material response and breathability.

Sweetnight Coolnest Memory Foam Layer

The last foam within the comfort layer is a 2.0” poly foam. This foam acts as a transitional material between the comfort layer and the support layer.

The Support Layer

The support layer is 10.5″ thick and made of a 4″ poly foam layer followed by a 6.5″ base support foam. This base foam is pretty interesting in that it has very deep channel-cut grooves, a linear 2″ void that spans the entire width of the mattress.

There are also little foam pieces that wedge into these grooves toward the edges of the mattress for improved support when seated or lying at the edge of the mattress.

Product Evolution

The SweetNight Coolnest launched in April 2025. Since its initial release, there have been no major changes to the materials or design of the mattress.
