Our Verdict
The Sleeping Duck Mach II is a 12.50″ hybrid mattress made of poly foam and a pocketed coil base. The top portion of the mattress has a zipper, which allows easy access to the foam layers.
The Sleeping Duck Mach II is available in four firmness levels — soft, medium-firm, slightly firm, and firm. On the website, you are only able to order medium or firm. However, if you decide it’s too soft / too firm, you can then request Sleeping Duck send you the soft or extra firm version.
In this review, we tested the medium version.
This mattress has very deep sinkage and high levels of bounce. While this deeper sinkage may not be for all sleepers, sleepers who like deeper engagement may enjoy this mattress. Opting for a firmer version of the Sleeping Duck will yield less sinkage, as we measured when we tested firmer foam layers of this mattress.
In our performance tests, this mattress earned an overall score of 8.94, ranking the mattress in the top 24% of all mattresses tested to date.
The Sleeping Duck Mach II is $2,299 for a queen-sized mattress, which is 51% more expensive than average. This is an additional cost of over $700. While the price is spendy, if you want the benefit of easy-to-swap foam layers, the Sleeping Duck could certainly be a quality option.

How is Sleeping Duck Mach II Different?
The Sleeping Duck Mach II is a 12.50″ hybrid mattress with an overall performance level that is well above average and a price tag that is also above average.
The result is a high-quality mattress with a higher cost to justify the better build quality and a more flexible firmness range.
Advantages
Advantages of the Sleeping Duck include better cooling performance, fast material responsiveness, fantastic edge support, and great sex performance as well.
Pressure relief is excellent also, with a score of 9.0 and a 4.25″ comfort layer. Overall, the mattress is 12.5″ thick, slightly thicker than the average.
Neutral Factors
This mattress has very deep sinkage and high levels of bounce. Both of these factors are considered “neutral” since different sleepers will have different preferences in these areas.

Disadvantages
The primary disadvantages of the Sleeping Duck is the higher levels of motion transfer.
Additionally, the Sleeping Duck has a higher sticker price, 51% more than the average hybrid. Granted, you’re getting extra flexibility within the mattress firmness, but that may not be a worth the higher price for all sleepers.
Cooling Test
The Sleeping Duck Mach II has excellent cooling. During our tests, I did not feel any significant level of heat retention around my body.
Baseline Temp.
78.3° F
Max. Temp.
90.5° F
Ending Temp.
83.0° F
That said, it’s clear the cooling performance did not rise to the outstanding level either. This mattress benefits from the hybrid design, which brings extra airflow into the mattress. In addition, this mattress uses all poly foam comfort layers instead of memory foam, which further helps to avoid heat retention.
Max. Temp.

Ending Temp.

- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
Lastly, the Mach II is equipped with what Sleeping Duck calls their “BreatheTech Cover”. The cover does facilitate good breathability, though it does not have any type of cool-to-the-touch feel.
In our objective temperature tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 90.5° F. This is 0.5° warmer than the average of 90.0° F, based on all of our tests to date.
After getting off the mattress, the temperature declined by 2.9 degrees from minutes 0 to 1, which is 1.9 degrees less cooling than the average 0 to 1 minute decline of 4.8 degrees.
Heat Dissipation Over Time

When we consider the combination of objective data, my subjective experiences, and an analysis of the materials, I’m confident in my view that cooling is excellent.
Sinkage Test
The Sleeping Duck Mach II has very deep sinkage. During our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 2.68″. This is 0.45″ more sinkage than the average sinkage depth of 2.23″, based on all of our tests to date. The mattress creates a balanced body contouring hug.
Sinkage Depth
2.68″
Sinkage Feel
Very Deep
Body Contour
Balanced
The level of sinkage (on the medium version) is documented in the image below.

That said, the sinkage dynamic will be notably different based on the firmness. The Mach II is available in 4 firmness levels.
The 2.68” sinkage depth and balanced body contour are based on the medium version.
Below you can see sinkage levels for all four firmness options (soft, medium, firm, and extra firm).
Sinkage – Soft – 2.92″

Sinkage – Medium – 2.68″

Sinkage – Firm – 2.58″

Sinkage – Extra Firm – 2.15″

The soft version has 2.92” of sinkage and a more dramatic body contouring hug. However, since this mattress uses all poly foam within the comfort layer, it has a more generalized, less exacting, and gentle type of a hug.

The firm version has 2.58” of sinkage, a higher degree of pushback, and less body contouring hug.
Lastly, the extra firm version only has 2.15” of sinkage. It has the highest degree of pushback and very little body hug.
Motion Transfer Test
The Sleeping Duck Mach II has a moderate level of motion transfer. During our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 10.67 m/s². This is 22% more motion transfer than the average of 8.77 m/s².
The higher-than-average level of motion transfer results from a combination of the hybrid design, poly foam comfort layer, and high level of bounce.
Accel. Range
10.67 m/s²
Motion Duration
1.02 seconds
In our bounce tests, we measure 10.41” of bounce height, which is considerably more than average. That extra bounce is great for ease of movement and sex, but also means there is simply more energy transferred.
The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.
In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.2 seconds. Motion declines notably thereafter, but we do see a smaller secondary energy spike around 0.6 seconds.
Motion Transfer Over Time

By 1.02 seconds, we’ve returned to near-zero levels of energy, which is 0.13 seconds longer than the average motion duration of 0.89 seconds. Both motion intensity and motion duration are worse than average.
Response Test
The Sleeping Duck Mach II has an extremely fast mostly recovered response time and a very fast fully recovered response time.
Mostly Recovered
0.2 sec.
Fully Recovered
0.4 sec.
In our mostly recovered test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.2 seconds, which is 0.21 seconds faster than the average of 0.41 seconds, based on all of our tests to date.
In our fully recovered responsiveness test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.4 seconds, which is 0.61 seconds faster than the average of 1.01 seconds.
The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.
This is an incredibly fast material recovery speed. The fast response ensures ease of movement is excellent and the mattress never creates any type of a stuck feel.
The combination of all poly foam comfort layers and hybrid design are working together to facilitate excellent material recovery speeds.
Bounce Test
The Sleeping Duck Mach II has a high level of bounce. During our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 10.41″. This is 1.64″ more bounce than the average of 8.77″, based on all of our tests to date.
Max. Depth
6.01″
Max. Rebound
4.40″
Total Bounce
10.41″
The higher-than-average bounce is a product of the all poly foam comfort layer and hybrid design. The coil unit in particular feels extraordinarily robust and supportive.
We see that extra supportive feel coming through with the incredible edge support. As such, it makes sense that we’d also see that extra supportive feel delivering higher than average bounce.
Max. Sinkage Depth

Max. Bounce Height

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.
The increased bounce is beneficial for improving ease of movement and sex performance; however, it’s also a primary reason that motion transfer is worse than average.
Edge Support Test
The Sleeping Duck Mach II has outstanding sitting edge support and outstanding lying edge support.
Max. Sinkage
2.75″
Lying Support
Outstanding
Reinforced Edge
Yes
In our sitting edge support test, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 2.75″. This is 1.18″ less sitting sinkage than the average of 3.93″, based on all of our tests to date.
The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

While lying directly on the edge of the mattress, I felt that the support was outstanding in all sleeping positions. This mattress is equipped with two rows of reinforced edge coils that run along the entire perimeter of the mattress.
The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.

Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.

Those edge coils, in addition to the high-quality comfort foams and robust coil unit, are working together to create fantastic edge support for both sitting and lying.
Overall, edge support is fantastic and I expect it will be more than satisfactory for most sleepers.
Sex Test
The Sleeping Duck Mach II has excellent sex performance. When it comes to sex, there just aren’t any notable weak spots.

All 5 of our sex score factors earned excellent or outstanding scores and the overall score is significantly better than average. Bounce is by far the most critical factor for sex; the Mach II has significantly more bounce than average.
That extra bounce height helps make sex easier, less strenuous, and more enjoyable. Likewise, the mattress has outstanding edge support.
| Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bounce | 65% | 9.0 | Very High |
| Edge Support | 20% | 10 | Outstanding |
| Noise | 5% | 10 | Minimal |
| Pressure Relief | 5% | 9.0 | Excellent |
| Cooling | 5% | 9.0 | Excellent |
The more robust edge extends the usable surface area of the mattress and enables a wider range of amorous activities. Overall, I’m exceedingly pleased with the sex performance and I expect most couples will find it more than satisfactory.
Pressure Relief Test
The Sleeping Duck Mach II has an excellent level of pressure relief. During our tests, I did not feel any significant pressure points on my body. All that said, it’s also fair to say that pressure relief wasn’t perfect.
Comfort Layer
4.25″
Support Layer
8.25″
The Sleeping Duck Mach II has 0.04″ less comfort material than the average comfort layer thickness of 4.29″, based on all of our tests to date.
While being around average for the comfort layer is great, I do think this mattress would benefit tremendously from another 1-2” of comfort material. The average comfort layer thickness, especially when combined with a highly supportive coil unit, simply left me wanting a bit more padding and pressure relief.
All that to say, there is nothing wrong or bad with this mattress design, but it does feel a bit lacking compared to other US mattresses at this price point.

In all mattresses we test, we make a point to cut the mattress open so we can see exactly what’s going on with the material layers. Overall, I’m pleased with what I see. The materials look and feel high quality, both on the body and in-hand.
In our objective pressure mapping tests, we measured a max PSI of 0.54. This is well within the 1.0 PSI threshold that I want all mattresses to be within.
Pressure Map – Side Sleepers

| Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Side Sleepers | 0.10 | 0.27 |
Pressure Map – Back Sleepers

| Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Back Sleepers | 0.06 | 0.52 |
Pressure Map – Stomach Sleepers

| Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Stomach Sleepers | 0.07 | 0.54 |
When I consider our objective pressure mapping tests, material thickness, material quality, and my subjective experience on the mattress, I’m confident most sleepers will find the pressure relief to be excellent.
Off-Gassing Test
The Sleeping Duck Mach II had a strong smell upon the initial unboxing. The mattress smelled for 7 days. This is 0.2 days shorter than the average smell duration of 7.2 days.

The Sleeping Duck Mach II is available in 4 firmness options—soft, medium, firm, and extra firm. It is also available in a half-and-half configuration for couples with different needs.

On the website, you are only able to order medium or firm. However, if you decide it’s too soft / too firm you can then request Sleeping Duck send you the soft or extra firm version.

We have all 4 inserts and have tested all 4 for firmness. We also did sinkage test measurements for all 4. Beyond that, all tests were conducted on the medium version.
Support & Sleeping Positions
Support on the Sleeping Duck Mach II is excellent. During our tests, I felt well supported in all sleeping positions.
| Support Factor | Data |
|---|---|
| Comfort Layer | 4.25″ |
| Support Layer | 8.25″ |
| Firmness | Soft, Medium-Firm, Slightly Firm, and Firm |
| Body Contour | Balanced |
| Zoned Support | Yes |
| Reinforced Edge | Yes |
The mattress is equipped with an 8.25″ support layer. This is 0.34″ thicker than the average support layer thickness of 7.91″, based on all of our tests to date. This mattress is available in 4 firmness options.
When you first order, you can choose medium or firm (as well as a half-and-half configuration). However, if you find that the firmness is too soft or too firm, you can then request a soft or extra firm insert to swap out your comfort layer.

Having so many different firmness options is fantastic, as it dramatically increases the likelihood that you’ll find a comfort and support dynamic that works well for your body. This mattress is equipped with zoned support and reinforced edge support coils along the perimeter.

Zoned support helps create more targeted support for different parts of the body, improving support, pressure relief, and reducing body impressions over time. When we consider the complete picture of materials, design, and firmness, I’m really happy with the mattress.

Material quality is excellent and the coil unit in particular is especially supportive and robust.
Based on all of my tests to date, an analysis of the materials, and my subjective experiences, I’m confident that most sleepers will find support on the Sleeping Duck Mach II excellent.

The Cover
The Sleeping Duck Mach II has a thin quilted cover with a zipper closure that makes it easy to access the inner layers of this mattress.

The Comfort Layer
The comfort layer is 4.25″ thick and made of two layers of foam. In our tests of the medium version, there were two poly foam layers.

The top layer is a 1.75″ poly foam, encased in a thin blue fabric. The layer below is a 2.50″ poly foam, encased in a white fabric.
The thin lining on each of the foams makes it easier to handle the foam and zip it all together. Together, these layers give the mattress the appearance of a more traditional pillow top design from the side of the mattress.
The Support Layer
The support layer is 8.25″ thick and made of a pocketed coil unit. It has reinforced coils at the end of the mattress and zoned coiling throughout.

Zoned coils help improve pressure relief and reinforced edge coils are great when sitting or lying at or near the edge.
Product Evolution
Sleeping Duck has been in business since 2014 and launched their Mach II hybrid in late 2020.
Our initial test of this mattress was at the end of 2025. We will update this section if / when there are notable design or material changes to the mattress.
