How is Origin LumbarCloud Different?
The Origin LumbarCloud is a 14.25″ hybrid mattress with an overall performance level that is better than average and a price that is below average.

Advantages
Advantages of the Origin LumbarCloud include better cooling performance, lower levels of motion transfer, slightly faster response time, and better edge support.
In addition, the Origin has a 365-night trial period and lifetime warranty. These can be great perks if you’re unsure about whether or not the mattress will work long-term.
Neutral Factors
This mattress has moderate sinkage and moderate bounce, giving the mattress a balanced feel. The LumbarCloud also earns an average sex score, which makes that category a bit of a neutral factor as well.
Disadvantages
The biggest disadvantage of the Origin LumbarCloud is a longer off-gassing duration. In our tests, this mattress took twice as long for the odor to fully dissipate upon unboxing. If you’re sensitive to strong smells, this could be a bigger factor to consider.
Cooling Test
The Origin LumbarCloud has excellent cooling. During our tests, I did not feel any significant level of heat retention around my body.
Baseline Temp.
76.7° F
Max. Temp.
89.1° F
Ending Temp.
81.0° F
This mattress uses a hybrid design and a layer of microcoils, which brings ample airflow into the mattress.
In addition, we have a layer of graphite-infused poly foam that is helping to resist heat retention. Lastly, the primary comfort layers are poly foam and we only have a limited 1.0” memory foam layer.
Max. Temp.

Ending Temp.

- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
Poly foam typically retains less heat and breathes better than memory foam, so that’s another boost for cooling. Overall, the Origin LumbarCloud is equipped with material and design choices that allow it to deliver excellent cooling performance.
In our objective temperature tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 89.1° F. This is 0.9° less than the average of 90.0° F, based on all of our tests to date.
After getting off the mattress, the temperature declined by 3.3 degrees from minutes 0 to 1, which is 1.5 degrees warmer than the average 0 to 1 minute decline of 4.8 degrees.
Heat Dissipation Over Time

When we consider the combination of objective data, my subjective experiences, and an analysis of the materials, I’m confident in my view that cooling is excellent.
Sinkage Test
The Origin LumbarCloud has moderate sinkage. During our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 2.12″.
This is 0.10″ less sinkage than the average sinkage depth of 2.22″, based on all of our tests to date. The mattress creates a balanced body contouring hug.
Sinkage Depth
2.12″
Sinkage Feel
Moderate
Body Contour
Balanced
The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

The 1.0” memory foam layer beneath the cover is helping to create a more noted contour around the body. However, the combination of pillow top cover, mostly poly foam comfort layers, and microcoil layer help to balance out the overall feel.
When we combine this balanced feel, even hug, and moderate sinkage depth, the mattress creates a non-polarizing feel that many different types of sleepers can enjoy.
Motion Transfer Test
The Origin LumbarCloud has a very low level of motion transfer. During our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 5.55 m/s². This is 37% less motion transfer than the average of 8.76 m/s².
Accel. Range
5.55 m/s²
Motion Duration
0.77 seconds
This mattress is equipped with a considerably thicker-than-average 5.5” comfort layer. More comfort material, especially more foam comfort material, helps to disperse energy, thereby reducing motion.
In addition, all of those extra foam layers and pillow top cover reduce bounce.
The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.
We measured a lower-than-average level of bounce, which simply means there is less energy being returned by the coil layer. This combination means fantastically low motion transfer.
In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.2 seconds. Motion drops off notably thereafter.
By 0.77 seconds, we’ve returned to near-zero levels of energy, which is 0.11 seconds shorter than the average motion duration of 0.88 seconds.
Motion Transfer Over Time

In our tests, we measured below-average motion intensity and a shorter-than-average motion duration.
This combination means motion transfer is very low and is a major boon for those who share a bed.
Response Test
The Origin LumbarCloud is a mixed bag for material responsiveness, with a very fast mostly recovered response time and a moderate fully recovered response time.
Mostly Recovered
0.3 sec.
Fully Recovered
1.1 sec.
In our mostly recovered test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.3 seconds, which is 0.11 seconds faster than the average of 0.41 seconds, based on all of our tests to date.
In our fully recovered responsiveness test, we measured a recovery speed of 1.1 seconds, which is 0.08 seconds slower than the average of 1.02 seconds. The material recovery speeds vary widely in this mattress.
Most of the materials, including coils, microcoils, and poly foam layers rebound back to shape effectively instantly.
However, the 1.0” memory foam layer takes a couple of moments to recover back to its original shape after it has been compressed.
The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.
This 1.0” memory foam layer slows down the total responsiveness speed on the mattress, which is why we see that fully recovered time being slightly slower than average.
Even so, these responsiveness speeds aren’t bad by any stretch. The material recovery was more than fast enough that I never felt stuck in the mattress or had any difficulty moving around on the mattress.
Bounce Test
The Origin LumbarCloud has a moderate level of bounce. During our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 8.39″. This is 0.42″ less bounce than the average of 8.81″, based on all of our tests to date.
Max. Depth
5.78″
Max. Rebound
2.61″
Total Bounce
8.39″
This mattress has multiple material layers that are working together to reduce bounce, including the 1.0” memory foam, pillow top cover, and microcoils. All of these layers disperse energy and aren’t especially resilient or bouncy.
Even so, we do have responsive poly foams and an 8.75” coil layer that are providing more bounce. So while bounce is lower than average, it’s only slightly below average.
Max. Sinkage Depth

Max. Bounce Height

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.
The below-average level of bounce is a major reason why we measured better-than-average motion transfer. Even so, that lower bounce also has a negative impact on sex. So there are pros and cons worth considering.
Edge Support Test
The Origin LumbarCloud has excellent sitting edge support and excellent lying edge support.
Max. Sinkage
3.75″
Lying Support
Excellent
Reinforced Edge
Yes
In our sitting edge support test, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 3.75″. This is 0.18″ less sitting sinkage than the average of 3.93″, based on all of our tests to date.
The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

While lying directly on the edge of the mattress, I felt that the support was excellent in all sleeping positions.
This mattress is equipped with reinforced coils that run along the entire perimeter of the mattress. These coils certainly have a significant positive impact on edge support.
The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.

Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.

In addition, the moderate sinkage depth, medium-firm feel, material quality, and considerably thicker than average total height are also working to deliver fantastic edge support.
I expect most sleepers will find this level of edge support to be more than satisfactory.
Sex Test
The Origin LumbarCloud has good sex performance. On the positive side, this mattress is quiet and has excellent pressure relief, cooling, and edge support.

In our edge support tests, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 3.75”.
The mattress is equipped with reinforced edge support coils that run along the entire perimeter. These coils are creating a robust edge, which extends the usable surface area of the mattress.
| Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bounce | 65% | 7.7 | Moderate |
| Edge Support | 20% | 9.1 | Excellent |
| Noise | 5% | 10 | Minimal |
| Pressure Relief | 5% | 9.0 | Excellent |
| Cooling | 5% | 9.0 | Excellent |
Lastly, we have bounce, which we measured at 8.39”. This is lower bounce than average and not as high as we ideally like to see.
When it comes to sex, more bounce is almost always better and the lack of bounce here is the greatest single detractor to amorous activity performance.
Pressure Relief Test
The Origin LumbarCloud has an excellent level of pressure relief. During our tests, I felt no significant pressure points on my body.
Comfort Layer
5.50″
Support Layer
8.75″
The mattress is equipped with 5.5″ of comfort material, which is 1.24″ more comfort material than the average comfort layer thickness of 4.26″, based on all of our tests to date.
The material quality looks reasonably good, certainly not the best we’ve tested, but it’s also better than many others we’ve tested. Notably, the material quality and build quality are considerably better than the Origin Adapt.
In fact, I was quite shocked at just how impressive everything looks and feels in the mattress compared to the Adapt model.

In our objective pressure mapping tests, we measured a max PSI of 0.56. This is well within the 1.0 PSI threshold I ideally want to see.
Pressure Map – Side Sleepers

| Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Side Sleepers | 0.12 | 0.41 |
Pressure Map – Back Sleepers

| Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Back Sleepers | 0.07 | 0.56 |
Pressure Map – Stomach Sleepers

| Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Stomach Sleepers | 0.07 | 0.33 |
When I consider our objective pressure mapping tests, material thickness, material quality, and my subjective experience on the mattress, I’m confident most sleepers will find the pressure relief to be excellent.
Off-Gassing Test
The Origin LumbarCloud had a strong smell upon the initial unboxing. The mattress smelled for 14 days. This is 6.9 days longer than the average smell duration of 7.1 days.

How firm is Origin LumbarCloud?
The Origin LumbarCloud is available in a single firmness, medium-firm, rating a 6 out of 10 on our firmness scale.

A mattress with this firmness is generally suitable for a wide range of sleepers, with varying preferences and sleeping positions.
Support & Sleeping Positions
Support on the Origin LumbarCloud is excellent. During our tests, I felt well supported during our tests.
The mattress is equipped with an 8.75″ support layer. This is 0.85″ thicker than the average support layer thickness of 7.9″, based on all of our tests to date.
| Support Factor | Data |
|---|---|
| Comfort Layer | 5.50″ |
| Support Layer | 8.75″ |
| Firmness | Medium-Firm |
| Body Contour | Balanced |
| Zoned Support | Yes |
| Reinforced Edge | Yes |
The LumbarCloud utilizes zoned support, which simply means it provides more support in the middle of the mattress, as well as more targeted support for different zones on the mattress (head, shoulders, mid-section, legs, etc.).
Zoned support helps to prevent mattress sagging, provides better support, and improves spinal alignment, which creates a more neutral alignment and alleviates pressure points.

According to the product page, this mattress has up to 2,040 individually wrapped coils. That feels quite high to me and I’m not sure how they are hitting that number. Even so, the overall support experience on this mattress is excellent.
The mattress is also equipped with reinforced coils along the perimeter, which improves edge support, extending the usable surface area of the mattress.
Lastly, LumbarCloud is available in a single firmness, medium-firm, which is ideal for most body types and sleeping positions.
Check out the table below to see the sleeper weights and sleeping positions that would be best suited for this mattress.
| Sleeper Weight | Stomach Sleeper | Side Sleeper | Back Sleeper |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under 150 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| 150-250 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| 250-300 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Based on all of my tests to date, an analysis of the materials, and my subjective experiences, I’m confident that most sleepers will find support on the Origin LumbarCloud is excellent.
