How is Origin Adapt Hybrid Different?
The Origin Adapt Hybrid is a 12″ hybrid mattress with an overall performance level that is slightly lower than average and a price that is significant lower than average—only $629 for a queen.

Advantages
Besides the obvious price advantage, other pros of the Origin Adapt Hybrid include lower levels of motion transfer, and better pressure relief. It has 4.0″ comfort layer, which is 0.1″ thinner than the average, but still feels comfortable.
Lastly, the Adapt has a 365-night trial and lifetime warranty, both longer than the average.
Neutral Factors
This mattress has moderate levels of sinkage and low levels of bounce.
Disadvantages
Disadvantages include higher levels of heat retention, slower material response time, and struggling edge support (especially when lying at or near the edge).
Cooling Test
The Origin Adapt Hybrid has fair cooling. During our tests, I felt a moderate amount of heat retention around my body. The Origin doesn’t feel hot, but it is certainly warm all over.
Baseline Temp.
74.4° F
Max. Temp.
92.2° F
Ending Temp.
80.7° F
Max. Temp.

Ending Temp.

- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
The mattress has a fairly typical hybrid design with 4.0” of comfort material atop an 8.0” coil unit. The coils are helping to bring air into the mattress. However, it’s not enough to offset the heat retention caused by the foams.
The 2.0” poly foam layer and 2.0” quilted cover just don’t seem to breathe especially well.
In our objective temperature tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 92.2° F. This is 2.4° more than the average of 89.8° F, based on all of our tests to date.
Heat Dissipation Over Time

When we consider the combination of objective data, my subjective experiences, and an analysis of the materials, I’m confident in my view that cooling is fair.
Sinkage Test
The Origin Adapt Hybrid has moderate sinkage. During our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 2.01″. This is 0.15″ less sinkage than the average sinkage depth of 2.16″, based on all of our tests to date.
Sinkage Depth
2.01″
Sinkage Feel
Moderate
The mattress creates a balanced body contouring hug and has more of a memory foam feel. However, it’s not overly dramatic or excessively hugging the body. Certainly the more restrained level of sinkage helps mitigate any type of extreme hug feeling.
The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

Even so, the foams do feel denser and create a more conforming feel around the precise shape of the body. Overall, I’m pleased with this feel. In our tests, I found it created great pressure relief, which we’ll discuss later in the review, and a comfortable, supportive feel.
Motion Transfer Test
The Origin Adapt Hybrid has a very low level of motion transfer. During our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 6.22 m/s².
Max. Acceleration
2.47 m/s²
Min. Acceleration
-3.75 m/s²
Accel. Range
6.22 m/s²
The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.
This is 29% less motion transfer than the average of 8.74 m/s². The combination of 4.0” of comfort material, denser feeling 2.0” poly foam layer, and lower bounce are all contributing to a lower level of motion transfer. The low bounce in particular is greatly beneficial, as that helps to simply reduce the total level of energy rebounded by the mattress.
In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.22 seconds. There is a modest secondary spike from 0.44 to 0.65 seconds. Even so, by 0.87 seconds we return to near zero levels of energy.

While the motion duration persisted for longer than average, it was nothing extreme. Given that the total motion transfer level was considerably lower than average, I am more than pleased with the complete picture of motion on the mattress and I don’t expect it will be an issue for most sleepers.
Response Test
The Origin Adapt Hybrid is a mixed bag for material responsiveness, with a fast mostly recovered response time and a slow fully recovered response time. In our mostly recovered test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.5 seconds, which is 0.07 seconds slower than the average of 0.43 seconds, based on all of our tests to date.
Mostly Recovered
0.5 sec.
Fully Recovered
1.4 sec.
In our fully recovered responsiveness test, we measured a recovery speed of 1.4 seconds, which is 0.43 seconds slower than the average of 0.97 seconds.
The majority of the materials within the Origin Adapt rebound to shape incredibly quickly. However, it does take a couple of moments before the entirety of the mattress is able to recover to its original shape.
The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.
The fast “mostly recovered response time” makes the mattress easy to move around on and avoids any type of a stuck feeling.
That said, if you are super sensitive to material responsiveness, you could find the 1.4 second full recovery speed feels a bit slow.
Bounce Test
The Origin Adapt Hybrid has a low level of bounce. During our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 7.50″. This is 1.78″ less bounce than the average of 9.28″, based on all of our tests to date.
Max. Depth
4.36″
Max. Rebound
3.14″
Total Bounce
7.50″
The Origin has a fairly substantial comfort layer with 4.0” of comfort material and is also equipped with a quilted cover stuffed with wool. Wool quilting in particular is able to significantly reduce bounce.
Max. Sinkage Depth

Max. Bounce Height

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.
The airy and loose nature of wool batting helps to disperse energy over a larger area, which keeps bounce to a minimum. That lower bounce is the biggest reason we measured lower motion transfer.
However, the lower bounce also negatively impacts sex performance. So there are pros and cons worth considering based on your preferences.
Edge Support Test
The Origin Adapt Hybrid has excellent sitting edge support and fair lying edge support. In our sitting edge support test, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 3.50″. This is 0.54″ less sitting sinkage than the average of 4.04″, based on all of our tests to date.
Max. Sinkage
3.50″
Lying Support
Fair
Even while sitting directly on the edge of the mattress, the Origin did a fantastic job at retaining its shape and fully supporting the weight. While sitting support was excellent, lying edge support left something to be desired.
The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

While lying directly on the edge of the mattress, I felt that the support was only fair in all sleeping positions.
The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.

Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.

The Origin is equipped with reinforced coils along the edge. While those coils are likely having a positive impact for sitting edge support, they don’t feel as impactful for lying edge support.
In addition, the quilted cover has a bit of a downward curvature of material at the edge of the mattress. This design choice creates a weakening of support at the edge while lying. My body is lying at a slight angle when on the absolute edge, which just isn’t an ideally supportive feel.
All things considered, it’s not bad by any stretch, but when comparing it to other mattresses with better edge support, it’s clear it could be better.
Sex Test
The Origin Adapt Hybrid has fair sex performance. On the positive side, noise is minimal and both sitting edge support and pressure relief are excellent. That being said, both bounce and cooling leave something to be desired.

In our bounce test, we measured just 7.50” of bounce height, which is considerably lower than the average. That lower bounce simply means there is less energy returned to couples during the dance without pants.
Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
---|---|---|---|
Bounce | 65% | 7.2 | Moderate |
Edge Support | 20% | 9.4 | Excellent |
Noise | 5% | 10 | Minimal |
Pressure Relief | 5% | 9.0 | Excellent |
Cooling | 5% | 7.0 | Fair |
Less bounce makes sex more difficult, strenuous, and tiring. Lastly, cooling performance was only fair, which can decrease the total comfort for couples on the mattress.
Pressure Relief Test
The Origin Adapt Hybrid has an excellent level of pressure relief. During our tests, I felt no notable pressure points on my body. The mattress was comfortable in all sleeping positions and created ample pressure relief.
Comfort Layer
4.0″
Support Layer
8.0″
The mattress is equipped with 4.0″ of comfort material, including a 2.0” cover quilted with wool and 2.0” poly foam layer.
The Origin Adapt Hybrid has 0.14″ less comfort material than the average comfort layer thickness of 4.14″, based on all of our tests to date. Even so, the mattress created an above average level of pressure relief performance.
I was pleased with the relative quality level of the foam used in the mattress. While these aren’t the absolute highest quality foam I’ve seen, they are still perfectly fine, especially considering the price point.

In our objective pressure mapping tests, we measured a max PSI of 0.89. A 2.0 PSI is a high pressure point and the Origin Adapt came nowhere near that level.
When I consider the material thickness, material quality, and my subjective experience on the mattress, I’m confident most sleepers will find the pressure relief to be excellent.
Pressure Map – Side Sleepers

Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |

Off-Gassing Test
The Origin Adapt Hybrid had a strong smell upon the initial arrival. The mattress smelled for 5 days.

Comparing 96+ brands tested to date, the average trial period is 179 nights, 186 nights less than that Origin offers. The Origin Adapt also offers a lifetime warranty.
How firm is Origin Adapt Hybrid?
The Origin Adapt Hybrid is available in a single firmness level — a 6 out of 10, where 10 is the most firm. This gives the mattress a medium-firm feel.

Support & Sleeping Positions
Support on the Origin Adapt Hybrid is excellent. During our tests, I felt well supported in all sleeping positions.
The mattress is equipped with an 8.0″ support layer. This is 0.12″ thicker than the average support layer thickness of 7.88″, based on all of our tests to date. The coil unit uses 2,040+ individual coils and is zoned, meaning it creates more support in the center third of the mattress and less support at the head and foot.
This helps to bring the spine into a more neutral alignment, reducing pressure points and improving the total support experience. The Origin created excellent pressure relief, which helps ensure you can lie in the same position for extended periods of time comfortably.

The mattress has a medium-firm feel, which is appropriate to all sleeping positions and body weights.
Check out the table below to see the sleeper weights and sleeping positions that would be best suited for this mattress.
Sleeper Weight | Stomach Sleeper | Side Sleeper | Back Sleeper |
---|---|---|---|
Under 150 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
150-250 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
250-300 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Overall, I’m pleased with the support dynamic and expect it will be more than sufficient for sleepers up to 300 pounds per side.
Based on all of my tests to date, an analysis of the materials, and my subjective experiences, I’m confident most sleepers will find support on the Origin Adapt Hybrid is excellent.

The Cover
The Origin Adapt Hybrid has a 2.0″ quilted cover topped with a thin Tencel fabric, designed for advanced cooling. Beneath the fabric is a wool liner with both a thin memory foam and thin poly foam layer quilted within the cover.

The Comfort Layer
Beneath the cover, we start to note some discrepancies between what the manufacturer says there should be and what we visibly see on the mattress we tested.
According to the manufacturer, there should be three layers of foam within the comfort layer—a bamboo memory foam, an “Orthopedic HexaGrid” and a graphite cooling foam.

(From Manufacturer)

(In-House Testing)
Seemingly the wool, bamboo memory foam, and hexagrid foam are all quilted within the cover. These layers are all incredibly thin, as all 3 account for the total 2.0″ quilted cover.
Furthermore, the manufacturer appears to show a channel-cut design in a hexagon pattern for better breathability and a faster material response time.
But within the foam we tested in person, I’m just not seeing it within the poly foam layer.

In addition, the graphite cooling foam is missing entirely.
The Support Layer
The support layer appears to be exactly what it says it is—an 8.0″ thick layer made of pocketed coils. There are over 2,000 steel springs, with each coil being individually encased in a thin fabric.

According to the manufacturer, there are 8 zones on this mattress, with varying degrees of spring density depending on what part of the mattress you’re lying on.
Product Evolution
The Origin Adapt line has been around since 2018. While exact changes over the years are a bit unclear, we do know that the company rebranded the Adapt line in 2024 and renamed the Origin Adapt Hybrid at that time.
The version distributed today is the same as the version manufactured after the 2024 rebrand.
