Our Verdict

The Novilla AiryFlow is a 15.00″ memory foam mattress made of memory foam, poly foam, and support foam. It has an all-foam construction and the high-profile design makes it an attractive pick for sleepers looking for a taller mattress.

The Novilla AiryFlow is available in a single firmness level — medium-firm. On our firmness scale, this is a 6 out of 10, where 10 is the most firm.

This mattress has deep sinkage and very low levels of bounce. For a memory foam mattress, this feel is not unexpected and is good for sleepers who want a more dramatic body contour and hug.

In our performance tests, this mattress earned an overall score of 7.65, ranking the mattress in the bottom 13% of all mattresses tested to date. But for sleepers on a tight budget, this mattress may still fit the bill.

The Novilla AiryFlow is $510 for a queen sized mattress, 51% less than the average memory foam mattress. As long as you understand the disadvantages and weaknesses in performance, the AiryFlow may still be an okay option for some people.

How is Novilla AiryFlow Different?

The Novilla AiryFlow is a 15.00″ memory foam mattress with an overall performance level that is signifcaintly below average, but also a price tag that is below the average as well. The result is a low-performing mattress at a low price.

Advantages

Aside from the price, the only significant advantage of the Novilla AiryFlow is slightly better motion transfer than average.

Novilla Airyflow Relaxing
Novilla Airyflow Relaxing

Neutral Factors

This mattress has deep sinkage and very low levels of bounce. Both bounce and sinkage are neutral factors as different sleepers will have different preferences in these categories.

Disadvantages

Disadvantages of the Airyflow include worse cooling performance, slower material responsiveness, weak edge support, and a lower sex score as well.

Pressure relief was below-average as well, which can be problematic for sleepers who struggle with pressure points, back pain, or targeted sensitive areas.

7.0

Cooling Test

The Novilla AiryFlow has fair cooling. During our tests, I felt a moderate level of heat retention around my body. This mattress has a fairly simple all foam design, including a 3.0” memory foam layer on top.

Baseline Temp.

75.4° F

Max. Temp.

91.0° F

Ending Temp.

81.1° F

All foam designs simply don’t breathe as well as designs that include coils. In addition, the top layer of memory foam simply appears to retain more heat, especially compared to many other types of foam we’ve tested.

Max. Temp.

  • Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
  • Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
  • Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes

Notably, the memory foam is gel infused, which I expect is having some type of a positive impact. And yet, it doesn’t appear to be impactful enough to make a meaningful difference for cooling.

In our objective temperature tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 91.0° F. This is 0.9° warmer than the average of 90.1° F, based on all of our tests to date.

Heat Dissipation Over Time

Novilla Airyflow V Heat Dissipation Chart

After getting off the mattress, the temperature declined by 4.2 degrees from minutes 0 to 1, which is 0.5 degrees warmer than the average 0 to 1 minute decline of 4.7 degrees.

When we consider the combination of objective data, my subjective experiences, and an analysis of the materials, I’m confident in my view that cooling is fair.

Sinkage Test

The Novilla AiryFlow has deep sinkage. During our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 2.38″. This is 0.14″ more sinkage than the average sinkage depth of 2.24″, based on all of our tests to date.

Sinkage Depth

2.38″

Sinkage Feel

Deep

Body Contour

Dramatic

The mattress creates a dramatic body contouring hug. The Airyflow has a 3.0” memory foam layer on top, which creates a significant and exacting hug around the precise shape of the body.

The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

Novilla Airyflow Sinkage Test
Novilla Airyflow Sinkage Test

The thin cover (as opposed to a quilted cover) creates more immediate and pronounced engagement with the foam layers. Ultimately, this mattress has a more dramatic and classic memory foam feel.

To enjoy the feel you’ll need to strongly prefer the feel of memory foam, including the sharper body contouring hug, lower bounce, and slower material recovery speed.

8.9

Motion Transfer Test

The Novilla AiryFlow has a low level of motion transfer. During our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 7.49 m/s². This is 15% less motion transfer than the average of 8.81 m/s².

Accel. Range

7.49 m/s²

Motion Duration

0.54 seconds

This mattress has an all foam design and a thick 3.0” layer of traditional memory foam on top. This combination creates the right material conditions to greatly absorb and disperse energy, reducing bounce, and eliminating motion transfer.

The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.

In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.2 seconds. Motion declines dramatically and immediately thereafter. By 0.54 seconds we’ve returned to near zero levels of energy, which is 0.35 seconds shorter than the average motion duration of 0.89 seconds.

Motion Transfer Over Time

Novilla Airyflow V Motion Transfer Chart

Both motion duration and motion intensity are considerably lower than average, creating an overall low level of motion transfer on the mattress. Overall, I’m pleased with this level of motion and I think most sleepers will find it more than satisfactory.

6.5

Response Test

The Novilla AiryFlow has a slow material response. In our mostly recovered test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.8 seconds, which is 0.39 seconds slower than the average of 0.41 seconds, based on all of our tests to date.

Mostly Recovered

0.8 sec.

Fully Recovered

1.4 sec.

In our fully recovered responsiveness test, we measured a recovery speed of 1.4 seconds, which is 0.38 seconds slower than the average of 1.02 seconds.

The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.

The slower material recovery speed is the product of both the all foam design, but especially the 3.0” memory foam layer. This particular memory foam formulation has a more classic design, which means a slower material responsiveness, less bounce, and a more dramatic body hug.

That slower responsiveness makes this mattress considerably harder to move around on and change positions. However, it also keeps motion transfer held to a lower level, so there are pros and cons to consider.

Bounce Test

The Novilla AiryFlow has a very low level of bounce. During our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 4.44″. This is 4.30″ less bounce than the average of 8.74″, based on all of our tests to date.

Max. Depth

4.37″

Max. Rebound

0.07″

Total Bounce

4.44″

Much like other performance categories, the lower level of bounce is a product of the 3.0” memory foam layer on top. Said memory foam layer has a more classic, traditional formulation.

Max. Bounce Height

Novilla Airyflow Bounce Rebound

The viscoelastic properties of a more traditionally formulated memory foam mean that it simply doesn’t provide much resiliency, response, or springiness.

As a result, the total bounce height in our tests is considerably lower than average.

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.

This lower level of bounce is a major reason why motion transfer is so low. However, the lower bounce also makes it harder to move around on this mattress and negatively impacts sex performance.

7.4

Edge Support Test

The Novilla AiryFlow has fair sitting edge support and fair lying edge support.

Max. Sinkage

4.75″

Lying Support

Fair

Reinforced Edge

No

In our sitting edge support test, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 4.75″. This is 0.84″ more sitting sinkage than the average of 3.91″, based on all of our tests to date.

The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.

Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

While lying directly on the edge of the mattress, I felt that the support was fair in all sleeping positions. The big problem for edge support is simply the 3.0” memory foam layer on top.

The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.

Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.

Memory foam creates lots of hug and body contour. That dynamic is great when you’re in the middle of the mattress. However, when that contouring hug occurs along the edge it creates a weakening of support at the edge.

This weakening of support creates the deeper sitting sinkage compression at the edge, while also negatively impacting lying edge support.

Notably, this mattress does not utilize any type of reinforced edge support, which is another factor in the limited edge support performance. Overall, edge support just isn’t great on the Novilla AiryFlow.

6.2

Sex Test

The Novilla AiryFlow has mediocre sex performance. First, let’s talk through the good stuff, which is limited to minimal noise and excellent pressure relief.

Novilla Airyflow Edge Support Sitting
Novilla Airyflow Edge Support Sitting

Moving on, let’s talk about the not so good stuff. Cooling and edge support earned only fair scores. Edge support in particular measured in at 4.75” of sitting edge sinkage.

This is simply a less robust level of edge support and means the edge is not especially robust. A less supportive edge limits the usable surface area of the mattress.

Sex FactorFactor WeightScoreRating
Bounce65%5.2Very Low
Edge Support20%7.8Fair
Noise5%10Minimal
Pressure Relief5%8.0Good
Cooling5%7.0Fair

Lastly, and by far the biggest issue, we have a very low level of bounce. We measured bounce at just 4.44”. When it comes to sex, more bounce is almost always better. The lower level of bounce makes the mattress more strenuous and tiring to have sex on.

To be fair, that lower bounce is a major reason that motion transfer is lower. All that said, when it comes to sex, we want bounce to be considerably higher than this in order to deliver the best performance.

8.0

Pressure Relief Test

The Novilla AiryFlow has an good level of pressure relief. During our tests, I felt no significant pressure points on my body.

Comfort Layer

6.00″

Support Layer

9.00″

The mattress is equipped with 6.0″ of comfort material, which is 1.68″ more comfort material than the average comfort layer thickness of 4.32″, based on all of our tests to date.

In all NapLab mattress tests, we make a point to cut open the mattress and examine the material quality. Overall, I think these material layers are reasonably good relative to the price point. The layers look and feel good, both on the body and in hand.

Novilla Airyflow Memory Foam
Novilla Airyflow Memory Foam

While pressure relief is good on a brand new mattress, I am concerned that we could see dramatically declining pressure relief over time. The foams used in this mattress are quite low density, coming in at 1.56 to 1.87 PCF.

Ideally, I want to see at least the primary comfort layer in the 3.0-4.0 PCF range. Lower density foams typically don’t last as long, sag earlier, and sag deeper. Moving on, this mattress has deeper sinkage and a more dramatic body contouring hug due to the traditional memory foam layer.

To enjoy the comfort dynamic that the Novilla AiryFlow creates you’ll need to strongly prefer the feel of memory foam. Lastly, in our objective pressure mapping tests we measured a max PSI of 0.56. This is well within the 1.0 PSI threshold we want to see.

When I consider our objective pressure mapping tests, material thickness, material quality, and my subjective experience on the mattress, I’m confident most sleepers will find the pressure relief to be excellent.

All things considered, I’m not particularity impressed with the length of the trial period or the warranty. I would have liked to have seen longer durations for both of those categories, but free returns is nice.

How firm is Novilla AiryFlow?

The Novilla Airyflow is available in a single firmness, medium-firm, which comes in as a 6 out of 10 on our firmness scale.

Firmness Chart

It’s available in a wide variety of sizes, from 10” up to 16”. In this review, we tested the 16” version.

A mattress of this firmness would generally be suitable for a wide range of sleepers.

Support & Sleeping Positions

Support on the Novilla AiryFlow is good. During our tests, I felt well supported by the mattress. The mattress is equipped with a 9.0″ support layer. This is 1.1″ thicker than the average support layer thickness of 7.9″, based on all of our tests to date.

Support FactorData
Comfort Layer 6.00″
Support Layer 9.00″
Firmness Medium-Firm
Body Contour Dramatic
Zoned Support No
Reinforced Edge No

For a mattress to create ideal support it needs to both fully support the body, keeping the spine in a neutral alignment, while also providing sufficient pressure relief.

The Airyflow mattress met both of those requirements. This mattress has a medium-firm feel, which is ideal for most body types and sleeping positions. This mattress does not use any type of zoned support. Instead, have a consistent firmness from head to foot of the mattress.

Sleeper WeightStomach SleeperSide SleeperBack Sleeper
Under 150 lbs.YesYesYes
150-250 lbs.YesYesYes
250-300 lbs.YesYesYes

In my view, the biggest support challenge with this mattress is simply the 3.0” memory foam layer on top. This memory foam creates a dramatic and exacting body contouring hug.

It has a slower material recovery speed, which makes it harder to move around on the mattress and change positions. That memory foam dynamic simply creates a more polarizing feel.

Some sleepers love it, some hate it. You’ll want to be sure that you enjoy a more traditional memory foam feel in order to feel well supported by this mattress.

Based on all of my tests to date, an analysis of the materials, and my subjective experiences, I’m confident most sleepers will find support on the Novilla AiryFlow is good.

Design

The Novilla AiryFlow is a 15.00″ memory foam mattress that comes in a single firmness option—Medium-Firm. I will add here, that according to the manufacturer, the AiryFlow should be a 16″ thick mattress, but the mattress we tested was short of that.

Even at full expansion, the AiryFlow mattress only measured 15″ thick, 1.0″ thinner than the targeted 16″ thickness.

The Cover

The Novilla AiryFlow has a thin cover that is soft and stretchy. It is gray in color with a diagonal geometric pattern. The light gray cover on top wraps the edge of the mattresses before transitioning to a darker gray fabric at the base.

There are no handles or anything fancy on this mattress, but the cover does its job and Novilla adds a light mint green cording accent where the two different covers meet.

The Comfort Layer

The comfort layer is 6.00″ thick and made of two layers of foam. At the top of the mattress is a 3.0″ memory foam (blue) followed by a secondary 3.0″ poly foam layer (gray).
