Best For
- Outstanding cooling performance
- Fantastic pressure relief, especially for a mattress under $1,000
- Less motion transfer than average—good for couples
Considerations

- Costco-exclusive, no trial period and you must have a membership to purchase
- Response time is slightly slower than average
Our Verdict
The Novaform Legacy Premier is a 14.25″ hybrid mattress made of poly foam, memory foam, and a coil base. This mattress has a plush pillow top cover and is the best scoring Novaform mattress that I’ve tested to date.
The Novaform Legacy Premier is available in two firmness levels — medium and firm. This review is a test of the Medium version, which had a medium-firm feel (6 out of 10), just a touch firmer than expected based on Novaform’s assessment.
This mattress has very deep sinkage and moderate levels of bounce. This dynamic can be great for all sleeping positions, but the deeper sinkage will be especially appreciated by side sleepers. The firm version would be a better match for stomach or back sleepers.
In our performance tests, this mattress earned an overall score of 8.44, ranking the mattress in the bottom 35% of all mattresses tested to date. Looking exclusively at hybrids, that rank dips even lower to the bottom 27% of all mattresses. Despite its shortcomings, it still had an advantage: a low price.
The Novaform Legacy Premier is $1,000 for a queen-sized mattress, which is 34% less expensive than average. If you’re on a budget (and also a Costco member), the Legacy Premier is a great option to consider and the best mattress we’ve seen from Novoform to date.

How is Novaform Legacy Premier Different?
The Novaform Legacy Premier is a 14.25″ hybrid mattress with an overall performance level that is just slightly below the average level, but also a price that is significantly less than average. The result is a solid value hybrid under $1K with pretty good performance across the board.
Advantages
Specific advantages of the Legacy Premier include better cooling performance, lower levels of motion transfer, better edge support, better sex than average, and better pressure relief.
Honestly, this is quite a few advantages for a mattress that is still sub-$1,000 for a queen.
Neutral Factors
This mattress has very deep sinkage and moderate levels of bounce. These are neutral factors because different sleepers have different preferences in these areas, but ultimately, this dynamic is suitable for a wide range of preferences.

Disadvantages
Disadvantages to the Novaform would be slow off-gassing and limited availability as it’s a Costco exclusive.
This mattress took 16 days to fully off-gas and had quite a strong odor upon unboxing.
Also, being a Costco-exclusive mattress, you’ll need a membership to purchase the Legacy Premier, which costs a minimum of $60/year. Costco mattresses are not backed by the same type of trial period that many other mattress manufacturers offer, although you can still return the mattress in many cases.
Cooling Test
The Novaform Legacy Premier has excellent cooling. During our tests, I did not feel any significant level of heat retention around my body.
Baseline Temp.
78.7° F
Max. Temp.
89.7° F
Ending Temp.
82.4° F
This mattress uses a hybrid design. We have multiple layers of high-quality foam on top of a pocketed coil unit. The foam layers seem to breathe well and the coil unit is bringing ample airflow into the mattress.
According to the product page, the mattress is equipped with a “cool-touch cover”.
In our tests, I found that the cover has a very slight level of cooling; that said, it’s far from the best cooling covers we’ve tested to date. Even so, overall cooling performance is solid.
Max. Temp.

Ending Temp.

- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
In our objective temperature tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 89.7° F. This is 0.3° cooler than the average of 90.0° F, based on all of our tests to date.
After getting off the mattress, the temperature declined by 4.1 degrees from minutes 0 to 1, which is 0.7 degrees cooler than the average 0 to 1 minute decline of 4.8 degrees.
Heat Dissipation Over Time

When we consider the combination of objective data, my subjective experiences, and an analysis of the materials, I’m confident in my view that cooling is excellent.
Sinkage Test
The Novaform Legacy Premier has very deep sinkage. During our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 2.67″. This is 0.43″ more sinkage than the average sinkage depth of 2.24″, based on all of our tests to date.
Sinkage Depth
2.67″
Sinkage Feel
Very Deep
Body Contour
Balanced
The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

The Legacy Premier creates a balanced body contouring hug. This mattress is equipped with a mix of different foam types, in addition to the pillow top cover.
This combination helps to create a balanced, even, and less polarizing feel that many different types of sleepers can enjoy. Overall, I’m really pleased with the total feel and comfort dynamic.
This is, without question, my favorite Novaform mattress I’ve tested to date. It looks better, feels better, and seems to be a notable step up in terms of material quality.
Motion Transfer Test
The Novaform Legacy Premier has a low level of motion transfer. During our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 7.66 m/s². This is 13% less motion transfer than the average of 8.77 m/s².
Accel. Range
7.66 m/s²
Motion Duration
0.91 seconds
The lower motion transfer level is the product of the incredibly thick comfort layer. This comfort layer is 7.25” thick, which is considerably thicker than the 4.29” average comfort layer thickness, based on all of our tests to date.
That super thick mix of pillow top, memory foam, and poly foam are working together to reduce bounce, dissipate energy, and reduce motion. In addition, the very deep 2.67” of sinkage is also helping to keep motion lower.
The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.
In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.2 seconds. Motion begins to decline thereafter, but remains spiky until 0.6 seconds.
By 0.91 seconds, we’ve returned to near-zero levels of energy, which is 0.03 seconds longer than the average motion duration of 0.88 seconds.
Motion Transfer Over Time

While motion duration is about average, the motion intensity is notably below average. Overall, I’m pleased with this level of motion and don’t expect it will be a problem for most sleepers.
Response Test
The Novaform Legacy Premier is a mixed bag for material responsiveness, with a fast mostly recovered response time and a moderate fully recovered response time.
Mostly Recovered
0.4 sec.
Fully Recovered
1.1 sec.
In our mostly recovered test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.4 seconds, which is 0.01 seconds faster than the average of 0.41 seconds, based on all of our tests to date.
In our fully recovered responsiveness test, we measured a recovery speed of 1.1 seconds, which is 0.09 seconds slower than the average of 1.01 seconds.
The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.
The comfort material on this mattress is mostly poly foam and coils, both of which rebound back to shape incredibly quickly. That said, we do have a layer of memory foam within the core of the mattress that slows down the total mattress responsiveness slightly.
Even so, these recovery speeds are about average, and I don’t expect it to be problematic for most sleepers. These response speeds did not inhibit ease of movement or create any type of “stuck” feeling.
Bounce Test
The Novaform Legacy Premier has a moderate level of bounce. During our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 8.75″. This is 0.01″ less bounce than the average of 8.76″, based on all of our tests to date.
Max. Depth
6.14″
Max. Rebound
2.61″
Total Bounce
8.75″
Bounce on the Legacy Premier is a mix of competing factors. We have the tall coil unit and poly foams, adding springiness to the mattress.
However, we also have a super thick 7.25” comfort layer, pillow top, very deep sinkage depth, and 1.5” memory foam layer that are all suppressing bounce.
Max. Sinkage Depth

Max. Bounce Height

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.
The result of this confluence of factors is a nearly exact average level of bounce. The average bounce level is a major reason that we saw motion transfer lower than average.
However, when we see bounce at this level, we also see weaker sex performance, so there are pros and cons worth considering here.
Edge Support Test
The Novaform Legacy Premier has excellent sitting edge support and good lying edge support.
Max. Sinkage
3.25″
Lying Support
Good
Reinforced Edge
Yes
In our sitting edge support test, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 3.25″. This is 0.67″ less sitting sinkage than the average of 3.92″, based on all of our tests to date.
The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

While lying directly on the edge of the mattress, I felt that the support was good in all sleeping positions. This mattress is equipped with reinforced coils along the perimeter of the mattress.
While these edge support coils make a notable impact for sitting edge support, they weren’t as impactful for lying edge support.
The 2.0” of mattress surface that is closest to the edge curves downward dramatically compared to the middle area on the mattress.
The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.

Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.

This downward curvature creates a weakening of support if you’re sleeping near the absolute edge. While lying near the edge of the mattress, I felt that support was good, though it’s clear it also doesn’t rise to the excellent or outstanding level.
Sex Test
The Novaform Legacy Premier has good sex performance. First, let’s talk through what the mattress does well. Noise is minimal, while cooling, pressure relief, and edge support all earned excellent scores.

Performance in these 4 areas was fantastic. Even so, that still leaves our 5th testing area, bounce.
Bounce earned a good score, but also one that is far from amazing. We measured a total bounce height of 8.75”. While this is about average, when it comes to sex, being average is not where we want to be.
| Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bounce | 65% | 8.0 | High |
| Edge Support | 20% | 9.7 | Excellent |
| Noise | 5% | 10 | Minimal |
| Pressure Relief | 5% | 9.0 | Excellent |
| Cooling | 5% | 9.0 | Excellent |
The relatively limited bounce, especially combined with the very deep sinkage and super thick 7.25” comfort layer, simply makes sex on this mattress more strenuous and more tiring.
All that to say, while sex performance isn’t perfect, it’s not bad either. Performance in 4 out of our 5 amorous testing categories is great and bounce is still average.
Pressure Relief Test
The Novaform Legacy Premier has an excellent level of pressure relief. During our tests, I felt no significant pressure points on my body.
Comfort Layer
7.25″
Support Layer
7.00″
The mattress is equipped with 7.25″ of comfort material, which is 2.96″ more comfort material than the average comfort layer thickness of 4.29″, based on all of our tests to date.
In all mattress tests, we make a point to open up the cover so we can examine the material layers, quality, and build. Overall, I’m pleased with what I see. The material quality looks and feels good, both on the body and in-hand.

To be fair, it’s far from the best we’ve seen, but it’s still a good and reasonable quality and thickness at this price point.
This mattress uses a mix of different foam types, including poly foam, memory foam, coils, and a pillow top. This mix of materials creates a balanced, even, and non-polarizing feel that many types of sleepers can enjoy.
In our objective pressure mapping tests, we measured a max PSI of 0.54. This is well within the 1.0 PSI threshold that we ideally want to see.
Pressure Map – Side Sleepers

| Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Side Sleepers | 0.10 | 0.35 |
Pressure Map – Back Sleepers

| Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Back Sleepers | 0.06 | 0.54 |
Pressure Map – Stomach Sleepers

| Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Stomach Sleepers | 0.07 | 0.33 |
When I consider our objective pressure mapping tests, material thickness, material quality, and my subjective experience on the mattress, I’m confident most sleepers will find the pressure relief to be excellent.
Off-Gassing Test
The Novaform Legacy Premier had a strong smell upon the initial unboxing. The mattress smelled for 16 days. This is 8.8 days longer than the average smell duration of 7.2 days.
Initial Smell Strength

Off-Gassing Period

Company
The Novaform Legacy Premier does not come with any trial period; however, it is backed by a 20-year warranty. Shipping and returns are both free.
| Company Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Data |
|---|---|---|---|
| Returns | 40% | 10 | $0 |
| Trial Period | 30% | 0 | 0 nights |
| Warranty | 20% | 8.0 | 20 years |
| Shipping | 10% | 10 | $0 |
| Country of Origin | 0% | USA |
Costco mattresses are backed by a “100% Satisfaction Guarantee,” meaning you can return the mattress after any amount of time and for any reason. The only caveat is that the mattresses must be clean and free of any bed bugs. Dirty mattresses will not be accepted for return.
All that said, this is not the same as a trial period. Novaform does not provide a trial period separate from Costco, and in our chats with Costco customer service, they made it clear that Costco does not provide any trial period for their mattresses.

Comparing 107+ brands tested to date, the average trial period is 172 nights and the average warranty is 13 years, 7 years less than what Novaform offers. Additionally, 41% of mattresses offer lifetime warranties, a significant jump over the Icon.
How firm is Novaform Legacy Premier?
The Novaform Legacy Premier is available in medium and firm. We tested the medium, which is a 6 out of 10, medium-firm feel.

Based on materials and mattress design, I would estimate the Firm version to be an 8 out of 10, with firm feel.
Support & Sleeping Positions
Support on the Novaform Legacy Premier is excellent. During our tests, I felt well supported in all sleeping positions.
| Support Factor | Data |
|---|---|
| Comfort Layer | 7.25″ |
| Support Layer | 7.00″ |
| Firmness | Medium-Firm and Firm |
| Body Contour | Balanced |
| Zoned Support | Yes |
| Reinforced Edge | Yes |
The mattress is equipped with a 7.0″ support layer. This is 0.91″ thinner than the average support layer thickness of 7.91″, based on all of our tests to date.
For a mattress to create ideal support, it needs to both support the body, keeping the spine in a neutral alignment, while also creating sufficient pressure relief and comfort. The Legacy Premier meets both of those requirements.

This mattress is available in a medium and firm feel. We tested the medium, which has a medium-firm feel, 6 out of 10 firmness. The medium feel will be ideal for the vast majority of sleepers.
Check out the table below to see the sleeper weights and sleeping positions that would be best suited for this mattress.
Medium Version
| Sleeper Weight | Stomach Sleeper | Side Sleeper | Back Sleeper |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under 150 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| 150-250 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| 250-300 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Firm Version
| Sleeper Weight | Stomach Sleeper | Side Sleeper | Back Sleeper |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under 150 lbs. | Yes | No | Yes |
| 150-250 lbs. | Yes | No | Yes |
| 250-300 lbs. | Yes | No | Yes |
This mattress is equipped with zoned support, including a zoned pocketed coil unit and an extra layer of poly foam in the center third of the mattress.
This combination of reinforced materials creates more robust, strong support in the center third of the mattress. This helps improve support, maintain a neutral spinal alignment, and resist sagging over time.
Based on all of my tests to date, an analysis of the materials, and my subjective experiences, I’m confident that most sleepers will find support on the Novaform Legacy Premier excellent.
Design
The Novaform Legacy Premier is a 14.25″ hybrid mattress that comes in two firmness options—Medium-Firm and Firm. In this review, we tested the Medium version.
| Design Factor | Data |
|---|---|
| Type | Hybrid |
| Thickness | 14.25″ |
| Cover Type | Pillow Top |
| Weight | 125 lbs. |
| Has Handles | Yes |
| Fiberglass-Free | Yes |
| Ships in a Box | Yes |
Considering the low price, I was a little surprised to see nicer features like a pillow top cover, high profile design, and handles on the sides of the mattress.

Typically, these features would be reserved for more expensive mattresses, but it’s great to see them included here.

The Cover
The Novaform Legacy Premier has a 1.75″ pillow top cover with a diamond-tufted stitching pattern. The top is made from a mix of polyester, olefin, and spandex, giving it softness and stretch.

The Comfort Layer
The comfort layer is 7.25″ thick and includes the 1.75″ pillow top, followed by three additional layers of comfort foam. Directly below the pillow top is a 2.5″ poly foam layer. Next is a 1.5″ poly foam, followed by a 1.5″ memory foam.
The memory foam has a convoluted design that helps it to limit heat retention and maintain a fast material response time.

The Support Layer
The support layer is 7.00″ thick and made of a 6.0″ pocketed coil support followed by a 1.0″ support foam base. While the coils are a bit shorter than competitors (many other hybrids use 8.0″ coils), the thicker comfort layer does help to make up for the thinner support materials.
Each coil is individually encased in a thin fabric that allows them to more independently and not as a full unit (like traditional innerspring mattresses).

Below the coils is a 1.0″ support foam base. This foam acts as a strong foundation for all of the layers above and also helps the mattress to maintain its shape and form.
Product Evolution
The Novaform Legacy Premier was launched in August 2024, and since its release, there have been no major changes made to the design of the mattress.
The addition of the Legacy Premier to the Costco lineup gives Novaform 9 unique collections available exclusively at Costco.

- Novaform Advanced Back Support Plus
- Novaform ComfortGrande
- Novaform ComfortGrande Plus
- Novaform ComfortLuxe
