Our Verdict
The Latex Mattress Factory Organic Latex Essential is a 6.5″ latex foam mattress made of two layers of natural latex with an organic cotton bamboo cover. This mattress has a natural wool fire-retardant layer stitched into the top cover.
The Latex Mattress Factory Organic Latex Essential is available in a single firmness level — slightly firm. Being that it is a thinner mattress (47% thinner than average), this mattress’s firmer feel helps to still provide support.
This mattress has deep sinkage and low levels of bounce. The deep sinkage may cause some issues for some sleepers. Too much sinkage can lead to pressure point issues, especially on a mattress that is only 6.5″ thick.
In our performance tests, this mattress earned an overall score of 8.19, ranking the mattress in the bottom 23% of all mattresses tested to date.
The Latex Mattress Factory Organic Latex Essential is $879 for a queen-sized mattress, which is 46% less than the average latex foam mattress. Furthermore, you’ll be hard pressed to find a latex foam mattress for under $1,000. Of all the latex foam mattresses we’ve tested, the average cost is $1,638. The only latex foam mattress that has a lower price tag than the LMF Organic Latex is the Sleep EZ Roma.

How is Latex Mattress Factory Organic Latex Essential Different?
The Latex Mattress Factory Organic Latex Essential is a 6.5″ latex foam mattress with an overall performance level that is below the average level and a price tag that is also well below average.

Advantages
Specific advantages of the LMF Organic Latex Essential mattress includes better cooling performance, faster material responsiveness, and better edge support. When seated at the edge, this mattress only measured 2.25″ of sinkage.
Neutral Factors
This mattress has deep sinkage and low levels of bounce. Both bounce and sinkage are considered neutral factors since different sleepers may have different feelings about these levels.
If you want more engagement with a bit of a restrained feel, this mattress may be just what you’re looking for. Likewise, if you’re looking for more pushback or reinforced support along the spine, the feel of this mattress might not sit right.
Disadvantages
Disadvantages include higher levels of motion transfer, 26% more than the average mattress, and the sex score was slightly below average (largely due to the lower level of bounce). Pressure relief struggles as well, with a comfort layer that is 0.7″ thinner than the average.
The off-gassing duration is slightly longer than average, but not by much— 8 days compared to the average duration of only 7 days.
As a company, Latex Mattress Factory has a trial period that is shorter than average (100 nights compared to the 175-night average) and a shorter warranty also. Comparing 96+ companies tested to date, the average warranty is at least 13 years and that’s excluding 39% of mattresses that offer lifetime warranties.
Cooling Test
The Latex Mattress Factory Organic Latex Essential has excellent cooling. During our tests, I did not feel any significant level of heat retention around my body.
Baseline Temp.
79.1° F
Max. Temp.
90.3° F
Ending Temp.
81.0° F
The mattress did a nice job at maintaining a reasonable temperature on the surface. Aside from a thin cotton quilted cover, the material components of this mattress are 100% latex.
Max. Temp.

Ending Temp.

- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
Latex as a material type resists heat better than many types of memory and poly foam. In addition, the latex includes aeration holes that further help to facilitate airflow and breathability.
In our objective temperature tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 90.3° F. This is 0.5° more than the average of 89.8° F, based on all of our tests to date.
Heat Dissipation Over Time

When we consider the combination of objective data, my subjective experiences, and an analysis of the materials, I’m confident in my view that cooling is excellent.
Sinkage Test
The Latex Mattress Factory Organic Latex Essential has deep sinkage. During our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 2.47″. This is 0.30″ more sinkage than the average sinkage depth of 2.17″, based on all of our tests to date.
Sinkage Depth
2.47″
Sinkage Feel
Deep
The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

Heavier parts of the body sink down into the mattress, but lighter parts of the body, including arms, legs, and head, do not sink deeply. The mattress creates more of a floating feel where the body lies more “on” the mattress as opposed to sinking down “in” the mattress.
There is very little body contouring and very little hug. The mattress creates more of a restrained and generalized contour around the body.
Despite the fact that we have 3” of medium firmness Dunlop latex on top, the mattress feels slightly firm. Certainly, the thin total profile and thin cotton cover are contributing to this slightly firm feel.
Motion Transfer Test
The Latex Mattress Factory Organic Latex Essential has a moderate level of motion transfer. During our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 11.02 m/s².
Max. Acceleration
5.65 m/s²
Min. Acceleration
-5.37 m/s²
Accel. Range
11.02 m/s²
This is 27% more motion transfer than the average of 8.70 m/s². Latex as a material type is highly responsive, springy, bouncy, jiggly, and as such, simply creates more motion compared to many types of poly foam and memory foam.
The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.
Given that this mattress consists of 6.0” of latex and a very small amount of cotton, it was no surprise to see the higher level of motion transfer. In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.13 seconds.

Motion drops off thereafter, and by 0.86 seconds, we return to near-zero levels of energy. The Latex Essential has a high motion intensity and longer than average motion duration, both of which create a worse-than-average level of motion transfer.
Response Test
The Latex Mattress Factory Organic Latex Essential has an extremely fast material response. In our mostly recovered test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.2 seconds, which is 0.23 seconds faster than the average of 0.43 seconds, based on all of our tests to date.
Mostly Recovered
0.2 sec.
Fully Recovered
0.3 sec.
In our fully recovered responsiveness test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.3 seconds, which is 0.68 seconds faster than the average of 0.98 seconds. These responsiveness speeds are effectively instant and tied for 1st with a number of other mattresses we’ve previously tested.
The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.
Latex is able to spring back into shape incredibly quickly. This fast material responsiveness ensures that the mattress is always easy to move around on and will never create a stuck feeling for sleepers.
Bounce Test
The Latex Mattress Factory Organic Latex Essential has a low level of bounce. During our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 7.82″.
Max. Depth
5.35″
Max. Rebound
2.47″
Total Bounce
7.82″
This is 1.38″ less bounce than the average of 9.20″, based on all of our tests to date. Latex as a material type creates more bounce compared to most types of memory and poly foam.
The same is true on this mattress. However, this mattress is incredibly thin at just 6.5” thick.
Max. Sinkage Depth

Max. Bounce Height

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.
The below-average mattress thickness, in combination with the quilted cotton cover, serves to suppress the total level of bounce.
While the lower bounce does negatively impact sex performance, the lower bounce is also a notable reason motion transfer was kept to a reasonably low level.
Edge Support Test
The Latex Mattress Factory Organic Latex Essential has outstanding sitting edge support and good lying edge support.
Max. Sinkage
2.25″
Lying Support
Good
In our sitting edge support test, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 2.25″. This is 1.76″ less sitting sinkage than the average of 4.01″, based on all of our tests to date.
Typically, latex struggles more with the sitting edge support. However, the thin 6.5” total profile is helping this mattress create better sitting edge support as the more intensely compressed layers are able to better resist any type of material collapse.
The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

While sitting edge support was fantastic, lying edge support wasn’t as impressive. While lying directly on the edge of the mattress, I felt that the support was good, but far from great, in all sleeping positions.
The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.

Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.

The edge of the mattress felt a bit squishy while lying on it, which leads to a less-than-great experience for sleeping near the edge.
Notably, this mattress contains no perimeter edge foam or other reinforced edge materials. These factors, in combination with the all latex design, create some room for improvement for lying edge support.
Sex Test
The Latex Mattress Factory Organic Latex Essential has good sex performance. On the positive side, noise is minimal, cooling is excellent, and sitting edge support is outstanding.

With just 2.25” of sitting edge sinkage, the edge is surprisingly robust for sitting. That said, both pressure relief and bounce leave much to be desired.
The limited 6.5” total profile means there just isn’t as much material as is ideal to create better pressure relief. In addition, we measured just 7.82” of total bounce height.
This is considerably lower than the average level of bounce and it means the mattress is more strenuous and tiring to have sex on.
Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
---|---|---|---|
Bounce | 65% | 7.4 | Moderate |
Edge Support | 20% | 10 | Outstanding |
Noise | 5% | 10 | Minimal |
Pressure Relief | 5% | 7.0 | Fair |
Cooling | 5% | 9.0 | Excellent |
Despite these issues, the total amorous activity performance is still good, even if it’s far from great.
Pressure Relief Test
The Latex Mattress Factory Organic Latex Essential has a fair level of pressure relief. During our tests, I felt minor pressure points on my body.
The mattress is equipped with 3.5″ of comfort material, which is 0.3″ more comfort material than the average comfort layer thickness of 4.2″, based on all of our tests to date.
Comfort Layer
3.5″
Support Layer
3.0″
The real problem with the pressure relief is simply the total thickness. At just 6.5” thick, this mattress is considerably thinner than the average total thickness.
The limited total comfort layer and support layer mean there is simply less material that’s able to disperse, comfort, and support your body weight.
It’s this dynamic that allows for increases in pressure points and a limited total comfort dynamic.

In our pressure mapping tests, we measured a max PSI between 0.83 and 1.26. These aren’t so high as to be considered red flags, but they are certainly not great. Ideally, we want to see pressure in the 0.50 PSI range.
In our pressure mapping tests it’s easy to see the more noted pressure spots, especially on the hips, head, shoulders, and feet. Essentially, there is more pressure in any spot where you have more weight isolated to a single spot.
All that said, pressure isn’t bad by any stretch, but it’s also far from amazing.
Pressure Map – Side Sleepers

Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
---|---|---|
Side Sleepers | 0.15 | 0.99 |
Pressure Map – Back Sleepers

Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
---|---|---|
Back Sleepers | 0.09 | 0.83 |
Pressure Map – Stomach Sleepers

Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
---|---|---|
Stomach Sleepers | 0.11 | 1.26 |
At the end of the day, this is a super budget-friendly mattress, and it has a certain functional limit in terms of pressure relief due to the limited quantity of materials included. Given the price point for latex, this is a perfectly reasonable and expected level of pressure relief.
Off-Gassing Test
The Latex Mattress Factory Organic Latex Essential had a strong smell upon the initial unboxing. The mattress smelled for 8 days. This is 1.5 days longer than the average smell duration of 6.5 days.
Initial Smell Strength
Strong
Off-Gassing Period
8 days

While the smell is strong, it isn’t as offensive as a typical memory or poly foam smell. It’s got a rubber smell, which is typical of latex.
Company
Latex Mattress Factory mattresses come with a 100-night trial period and a 10-year warranty. Shipping is free. Returns are $99.
Company Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Data |
---|---|---|---|
Trial Period | 15% | 8.0 | 100 nights |
Warranty | 10% | 8.0 | 10 years |
Shipping | 5% | 10 | $0 |
Returns | 20% | 7.0 | $99 |
Trust | 50% | 8.0 | Good |
Country of Origin | 0% | Sri Lanka |
Needless to say, having to pay anything to return a mattress isn’t ideal. Most mattresses we’ve tested don’t charge for returns. That said, perhaps it can be forgiven due to the sub $1K price point.

Comparing 98+ brands tested to date, the average trial period is 175 nights, 75 nights more than Latex Mattress Factory offers.
The average warranty is 13 years, which is 3 years more than this mattress, and that’s if we exclude the 39% of mattresses that offer lifetime warranties.
How firm is Latex Mattress Factory Organic Latex Essential?
The Latex Mattress Factory Organic Latex Essential mattress is available in a single firmness, 7 out of 10, giving the mattress a slightly firm feel.

Support & Sleeping Positions
Support on the Latex Mattress Factory Organic Latex Essential is fair. During our tests, I felt reasonably well supported in all sleeping positions. Even so, it’s clear support has room for improvement.
The mattress is equipped with a 3.0″ support layer. This is 4.89″ thinner than the average support layer thickness of 7.89″, based on all of our tests to date.

The greatest weakness of the Latex Mattress Factory mattress is simply the thickness. At 6.5” thick the mattress is about half the thickness of the average mattress.
The limited comfort layer and limited support layer mean more pressure is created, which means that it can be harder to stay in the same position for an extended period of time.
In addition, latex in general has trouble supporting heavier-weight bodies, especially over 250 pounds. This trouble can include latex mattresses that are 10-12” thick. The trouble supporting heavier-weighted bodies is even more of an issue when there is less material, as there is with this mattress.

As a result, I don’t feel confident this mattress will meet the support needs of most sleepers 200 pounds and heavier. Lastly, this mattress has a slightly firm feel. This feel is best for back and stomach sleepers and less great for side sleepers.
Check out the table below to see the sleeper weights and sleeping positions that would be best suited for this mattress.
Sleeper Weight | Stomach Sleeper | Side Sleeper | Back Sleeper |
---|---|---|---|
Under 150 lbs. | Yes | Maybe | Yes |
150-250 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
250-300 lbs. | No | No | No |
Based on all of my tests to date, an analysis of the materials, and my subjective experiences, I’m confident most sleepers will find support on the Latex Mattress Factory Organic Latex Essential is fair.

This mattress is designed to target a group of sleepers looking for natural materials at a price point that is comfortably under $1,000. It uses high-quality materials, but given the lower price tag, there is simply not as much material as what we’ve seen from other higher-priced latex mattresses.
Materials
The Latex Mattress Factory Organic Latex Essential is 6.5″ thick and is entirely made of latex foam with a bamboo cotton cover. From top to bottom, here is a full list of the materials used in this mattress:
- 1.0″ quilted cover
- 2.5” latex foam
- 3.0” latex foam

I will note, at only 6.5″ thick, this mattress is 5.6″ thinner than the average mattress thickness (12.1″). To look at it another way, that equates to 47% less material than average.
For lightweight sleepers, this may not be as big of an issue, but for heavier sleepers, this thin of mattress can easily be problematic.
The Law Tag outlines the full breakdown of materials included in this mattress.
- Materials
- 100% natural latex
- Organic Bamboo Cotton Cover Top Panel
- Organic Woven Cloth Bottom Panel
- Manufactured By: Wolfe Mfg. 5365 N 51st Avenue Glendale, AZ 85301
- Date of Manufacture:
- Model: Bamboo Cover
The Cover
The Latex Mattress Factory Organic Latex Essential has a thin organic bamboo cover. A wool lining helps to provide fire-resistant properties and meet safety regulations with a more natural approach.

The Comfort Layer
The comfort layer is 2.5″ thick and made of a single layer of latex. This layer sits directly below the wool layer within the cover.

The latex is perforated, which helps to create a sleeping surface that is breathable and responsive to sleeper movements.
The Support Layer
The support layer is 3.0″ thick and is also made of natural latex, like the comfort layer above.

This layer also lacks the hole-punched perforations that the layer above has, reinforcing its job as a supportive foundation layer.
Product Evolution
The LMF Luxerion and LMF Luxerion Hybrid were originally launched in 2023, added to the Latex Mattress Factory lineup as the first fully assembled mattresses sold on the website.
Originally, LMF catered to DIY mattresses. The company would sell individual components, and sleepers would purchase layers separately to build a unique mattress. LMF does still sell the individual mattress components if you prefer to build your own.
In 2024, the Organic Latex Essential was added to the collection as budget-friendly organic latex option. Since its release, there have been no major changes made to the mattress.
Other Mattresses to Consider
The LMF Organic Latex Essential mattress is a bit of a rare breed, being a 100% latex foam mattress priced under $1,000. We have not tested any other latex foam mattress that can come in at this price point, besides this mattress.
That being said, opting for a latex hybrid mattress may get you a familiar feel, and because it has a coil support, not latex, it is oftentimes more affordable.
With that in mind, see below for three top-rated latex hybrids under $1,000 that you may want to consider.
For Performance

Latex Mattress Factory Luxerion Hybrid
An LMF Alternative
The Latex Mattress Factory Luxerion Hybrid is a 12″ latex hybrid with moderate sinkage and moderate bounce. It has a balanced feel and a 4.5″ comfort layer. This mattress is made by the same company and is priced slightly higher ($979 for a queen), but you’re also getting a better-performing mattress.
For Alternate Firmness

Silk & Snow Organic
Extremely Deep Sinkage
The Silk & Snow Organic is a 12″ latex hybrid that comes in three firmness options—soft, medium, and slightly firm. It has extremely deep sinkage and moderate bounce. If you’re looking for more sinkage, but still want the generalized contour of latex, this could be a solid option. The main disadvantage to this mattress is higher levels of motion transfer and longer off-gassing.
For Lifetime Warranty

Awara
Great Cooling + Fast Response
The Awara mattress is a 10″ latex hybrid with a medium-firm feel. It has moderate sinkage and bounce, like the LMF Luxerion, and a low price tag under $1,000. If you’re looking for great cooling, fast material response, and great edge support (all on a budget), the Awara is a fantastic option to consider.
