Best For

  • Great pressure relief with 5.5″ comfort layer thickness
  • Great value—priced 20% less than the average hybrid
  • Moderate sinkage and low levels of bounce

Considerations

  • Low bounce gives the mattress a worse sex score
  • Longer off-gassing, took 9 days to stop smelling
  • Cooling is good, but not great

Our Verdict

The GhostBed Signature Hybrid mattress is a 12.5″ hybrid mattress made of memory foam, poly foam, pocketed coils, and a support foam base. The mattress is topped with a 1.5″ quilted cover for a plush feel.

The GhostBed Signature Hybrid is available in a single firmness level — medium-firm. This firmness is generally suitable for the widest range of sleepers, regardless of body weight or sleeping position.

This mattress has moderate sinkage and low levels of bounce. It’s a balanced feel with a restrained level of bounce. The memory foam on the top layer really helps to keep bounce in check.

In our performance tests, this mattress earned an overall score of 8.46, ranking the mattress in the bottom 35% of all mattresses tested to date.

Although the performance score is not as good as I’d like to see, the price is low, which is the real appeal of this mattress. The GhostBed Signature Hybrid is $1,199 for a queen-sized mattress, which is 20% less expensive than the average hybrid. For a hybrid on a budget, the Signature Hybrid is a solid pick.

How is GhostBed Signature Hybrid Different?

The GhostBed Signature Hybrid is a 12.5″ hybrid mattress with an overall performance level that is slightly lower than average and a price tag that is significantly less than average—a savings of 20% less than the average hybrid for a savings of $300.

Ghostbed Signature Hybrid Sitting
Ghostbed Signature Hybrid Sitting

Advantages

Besides price alone, other advantages of the Signature Hybrid include better edge support, and great pressure relief. This mattress has a 5.5″ comfort layer, which is supportive, yet also very comfortable and uses materials that help avoid pressure points.

This mattress also has a better company score. Despite only having a 101-night trial, the mattress is backed by a 25-year warranty.

Neutral Factors

This mattress has moderate sinkage and low levels of bounce. These factors are considered neutral since different sleepers may find they have different preferences.

There is no “ideal feel” when it comes to a mattress, but a mattress that comfortably falls in the middle of the data range tends to be more widely accepted than mattresses that fall at one extreme.

Disadvantages

Disadvantages of the Signature Hybrid include good (but not great) cooling performance, slightly higher levels of motion transfer, and slower material response time. This mattress also struggles with sex performance, largely due to the lower level of bounce, and has longer off-gassing (9 days vs. 6 day average).

8.0

Cooling Test

The GhostBed Signature Hybrid has good cooling. During our tests, I did not feel any significant level of heat retention around my body. However, it’s clear there is room for improvement.

Baseline Temp.

74.7° F

Max. Temp.

91.0° F

Ending Temp.

80.4° F

The mattress is equipped with a temperature-regulating fabric and cooling fibers, however, I did not experience any notable cooling on the cover. The cover simply does not have a cool-to-the-touch feel.

This cover feels similar to the cover on the less expensive Ghostbed Comfort Hybrid. Both are perfectly fine, but neither is particularly cool. This is in contrast to the Ghostbed Luxe Hybrid and Luxe Foam models, which do have a notable cool-to-the-touch feel.

If you do want a mattress with a markedly better level of cooling performance, then it would be worth the upgrade.

  • Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
  • Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
  • Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes

The Signature Hybrid has a simple, but proven hybrid design and a thicker-than-average 5.5” comfort layer. All of that extra foam is certainly limiting breathability, which in the absence of more advanced cooling materials, means that cooling performance is good, but not great.

In our objective temperature tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 91.0° F. This is 1.1° warmer than the average of 89.9° F, based on all of our tests to date.

After getting off the mattress, the temperature declined by 5.7 degrees from minutes 0 to 1, which is 1.0 degrees cooler than the average 0 to 1 minute decline of 4.7 degrees.

Heat Dissipation Over Time

Ghostbed Signature Hybrid Heat Dissipation Chart

When we consider the combination of objective data, my subjective experiences, and an analysis of the materials, I’m confident in my view that cooling is good.

Sinkage Test

The GhostBed Signature Hybrid has moderate sinkage. During our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 2.23″. This is 0.05″ more sinkage than the average sinkage depth of 2.18″, based on all of our tests to date.

Sinkage Depth

2.23″

Sinkage Feel

The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

Ghostbed Signature Hybrid Sinkage Test

The mattress creates a balanced body contouring hug. It uses a mix of quilted cover, memory foam, and poly foam to create a more even and less polarizing feel.

While the mattress does use a memory foam layer, it doesn’t have a dramatic memory foam feel. Mattresses with more memory foam relative to other foam types can create a more dramatic sinkage, more hug, more contour, and a more enveloping feel. However, that’s not the case here.

This is neither good nor bad, but it is a specific feel. If you really want a dramatic memory foam feel then this isn’t the right mattress for you. But if you prefer a more balanced feel that is neither too much nor too little with respect to sinkage, hug, and contour, then the Signature Hybrid can be a good choice.

8.0

Motion Transfer Test

The GhostBed Signature Hybrid has a low level of motion transfer. During our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 9.34 m/s². This is 8% more motion transfer than the average of 8.67 m/s².

Max. Acceleration

4.77 m/s²

Min. Acceleration

-4.57 m/s²

Accel. Range

9.34 m/s²

The Signature Hybrid’s thicker-than-average 5.5” thick comfort layer and 2.0” memory foam layer are working together to notably reduce motion and limit its transfer across the mattress.

The thick foam comfort layer also greatly reduces bounce, which further helps to keep motion transfer in check.

The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.

In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.14 seconds. Motion drops off significantly thereafter and by 0.58 seconds returns to near-zero levels.

Ghostbed Signature Hybrid Motion Transfer Chart Raw Copy

Overall, I’m exceedingly pleased with this level of motion. Typically, hybrids will have more motion duration, but what we measured here is more on par with the motion duration timeline of an all-foam mattress.

Suffice to say, that’s greatly beneficial for motion transfer and I expect most sleepers will find this level of motion to be sufficiently low.

8.4

Response Test

The GhostBed Signature Hybrid is a mixed bag for material responsiveness, with a very fast mostly recovered response time and a slow fully recovered response time.

Mostly Recovered

0.3 sec.

Fully Recovered

1.6 sec.

In our mostly recovered test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.3 seconds, which is 0.12 seconds faster than the average of 0.42 seconds, based on all of our tests to date.

In our fully recovered responsiveness test, we measured a recovery speed of 1.6 seconds, which is 0.61 seconds slower than the average of 0.99 seconds. The response dynamic is really a tale of two types of materials.

On the one hand, we have the coils and poly foam in the mattress, both of which rebound back to shape effectively instantly.

The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.

It’s these materials that are the reason the mostly recovered response time is so fast. On the other hand, we have the 2.0” memory foam layer, which takes considerably longer to fully reform back to shape.

The slower responsiveness speed of the memory foam slows down the mattress’s total responsiveness, which in turn makes ease of movement slightly more difficult.

Bounce Test

The GhostBed Signature Hybrid has a low level of bounce. During our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 7.31″. This is 1.82″ less bounce than the average of 9.13″, based on all of our tests to date.

Max. Depth

4.82″

Max. Rebound

2.49″

Total Bounce

7.31″

The Signature Hybrid is equipped with a notably thicker than average 5.5” comfort layer. In addition, 2.0” of those materials are memory foam. This combination drastically reduces the level of bounce on the mattress.

That lower level of bounce means that sex performance is significantly negatively impacted.

Max. Sinkage Depth

Max. Bounce Height

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.

In addition, ease of movement is also negatively impacted, though not nearly to the same degree as sex. All that said, bounce is a double-edged sword.

While sex and ease of movement are worse, motion transfer is better due to the level bounce. So you’ll want to consider which performance criteria are most important to you, sex and ease of movement? Or lower motion transfer?

9.4

Edge Support Test

The GhostBed Signature Hybrid has excellent sitting edge support and excellent lying edge support.

Max. Sinkage

3.25″

Lying Support

Excellent

In our sitting edge support test, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 3.25″. This is 0.75″ less sitting sinkage than the average of 4.00″, based on all of our tests to date.

While lying directly on the edge of the mattress, I felt that the support was excellent in all sleeping positions.

The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.

The Signature Hybrid is equipped with an edge support foam that runs along the entire perimeter of the mattress. This edge foam is 6.00” tall and 4.75” wide and it is without question having a substantial positive impact on both sitting and lying edge support.

The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.

Beyond the edge support foam, we have a thicker-than-average total height, a thicker-than-average comfort layer, and high-quality materials, all of which create excellent edge support.

7.8

Sex Test

The GhostBed Signature Hybrid has fair sex performance. First up, let’s talk through the positives. We have minimal noise, excellent pressure relief, and good enough cooling. Edge support also earned an excellent score.

Ghostbed Signature Hybrid Edge Support Sitting

With just 3.25” of sitting edge sinkage, the edge is quite robust and able to extend the usable surface area of the mattress for amorous activities and sleeping alike.

Bounce65%7.0Moderate
Edge Support20%9.7Excellent
Noise5%10Minimal
Pressure Relief5%9.0Excellent
Cooling5%8.0Good

Where the mattress doesn’t perform so well is with bounce. At just 7.31” of total bounce height the Signature Hybrid has a considerably lower bounce than average.

That lower bounce has a significant negative impact on sex performance. Even so, the Signature Hybrid did earn a better sex score than the more expensive Ghostbed Luxe and Luxe Hybrid models.

9.0

Pressure Relief Test

The GhostBed Signature Hybrid has an excellent level of pressure relief. During our tests, I felt no significant pressure points on my body.

The mattress is equipped with 5.5″ of comfort material, which is 1.31″ more comfort material than the average comfort layer thickness of 4.19″, based on all of our tests to date.

Comfort Layer

5.5″

Support Layer

The foam layers look and feel to be a reasonably good quality and at a quality level that is reflective of the price point. In testing the Signature Hybrid, I couldn’t help but compare it to the Ghostbed Luxe and Luxe Hybrid models, which we had recently tested.

There is some immediate softness from the comfort layer when you first lie down on the Signature Hybrid, however, it’s not as robust or comfortable as the Luxe Foam and Luxe Hybrid models. Instead, there is more pushback.

Ghostbed Signature Hybrid Pressing On Foam Layers
Ghostbed Signature Hybrid Pressing On Foam Layers

While lying on my side, I felt that my body hit a bit of a wall once my weight had sunk through the topmost soft layers within the quilted cover.

To be fair, it’s not a bad level of pressure relief at all, but certainly in comparison to Ghostbed Luxe Hybrid and Luxe Foam mattresses, there was a notable difference in terms of pressure relief and overall comfort on the mattress.

In our pressure mapping tests, we measured a max PSI of 0.70, which is well within the range I want to see. A 2.0 PSI is a high-pressure point.

All things considered, this feels like a solid, above-average hybrid, that’s a good value for the money.

When I consider our objective pressure mapping tests, material thickness, material quality, and my subjective experience on the mattress, I’m confident most sleepers will find the pressure relief to be excellent.

7.5

Off-Gassing Test

The GhostBed Signature Hybrid had a strong smell upon the initial unboxing. The mattress smelled for 9 days. This is 2.4 days longer than the average smell duration of 6.6 days.

How firm is GhostBed Signature Hybrid?

Firmness Chart

The GhostBed Signature Hybrid comes in a single firmness, 6 out of 10, which gives the mattress a medium-firm feel. Medium-firm works well for most body types and sleeping positions.

Support & Sleeping Positions

Support on the GhostBed Signature Hybrid is excellent. During our tests, I felt well supported in all sleeping positions.

The mattress is equipped with a 7.0″ support layer. This is 0.92″ thinner than the average support layer thickness of 7.92″, based on all of our tests to date.

Ghostbed Signature Hybrid Back Sleeping

The mattress utilizes zonal support. The poly foam within the core, just above the coil unit, has a reinforced layer of firmer foam in the center third of the layer.

This creates more support in the middle of the mattress, which helps reduce sagging. It also helps to create a more neutral spinal alignment for many sleepers.

Check out the table below to see the sleeper weights and sleeping positions that would be best suited for this mattress.

Sleeper WeightStomach SleeperSide SleeperBack Sleeper

In addition, the mattress is equipped with support foam that runs along the entire perimeter of the mattress. This extends the total surface area of the mattress that will feel supportive for sleeping.

Lastly, the mattress has a medium-firm feel. This firmness is appropriate to the needs of most body types and sleeping positions.

Based on all of my tests to date, an analysis of the materials, and my subjective experiences, I’m confident that most sleepers will find support on the GhostBed Signature Hybrid to be excellent.

The Cover

The GhostBed Signature Hybrid has a 1.5″ quilted cover that has tufted accents and a soft feel. According to the manufacturer, this mattress cover is designed for cooling, but in our cooling tests, it was good, but also far from great.

The sides use a reinforced fabric with vertical stitching, but there are no handles along the side of the mattress.

The Comfort Layer

The comfort layer is 5.5″ thick, including the 1.5″ quilted cover. Beneath the cover, there are two layers of foam. On top, we see a 2.00” memory foam (blue), followed by a 2.00” poly foam (white foam).

Ghostbed Signature Hybrid Measuring Comfort Layer

This 4.0″ foam assembly works with the quilted cover to provide comfort and support as sleepers engage deeper with this mattress.

The Support Layer

The support layer is 7″ thick and made of coils and foam. Directly below the poly foam from the comfort layer, there is a 6.0″ pocketed coil layer. These coils are all individually encased in a thin fabric, allowing them to move independently from each other.

The coil layer also contains a reinforced perimeter foam that is 6.00” tall x 4.75” wide. This helps to improve edge support when sitting or lying at or near the edge of the mattress.

Ghostbed Signature Hybrid Support Layer

At the very base of the mattress is a 1.0″ support foam, which is not uncommon for this type of mattress. I would have liked to have seen thicker coils, but given the value-price, I’m not hugely concerned.

Product Evolution

GhostBed first launched in 2015 and hit the market with one mattress, the GhostBed Classic.

In 2017, the GhostBed Luxe and GhostBed Flex were launched.

In May 2025, GhostBed launched the GhostBed Signature Hybrid, in addition to launching 5 other models. At the same time, Ghostbed discontinued their previous flagship models, including the Ghostbed Classic and Ghostbed Flex, and original Ghostbed Luxe.

In some ways, the new Ghostbed Signature Hybrid is a slightly worse version to the now discontinued Ghostbed Flex.
