Our Verdict

The GhostBed Signature Foam mattress is a 12.5″ foam mattress made of memory foam, poly foam, and a support foam base. This mattress has a 1.5″ quilted cover as well.

The GhostBed Signature Foam is available in a single firmness level — medium-firm. This firmness is generally widely accepted among many types of sleepers

This mattress has deep sinkage and low levels of bounce. Deeper sinkage is generally preferred by side sleepers, but some stomach or back sleepers may enjoy the feel as well.

In our performance tests, this mattress earned an overall score of 8.28, ranking the mattress in the bottom 26% of all mattresses tested to date. For performance picks, this really isn’t where we want to see any mattress.

But it does have a lower-than-average price tag. The GhostBed Signature Foam is $999 for a queen-sized mattress, which is 30% less than the average mattress (considering all mattress types). But if we only compare it to foam mattresses, this GhostBed is only 5% less expensive than average (a savings of only $57).

How is GhostBed Signature Foam Different?

The GhostBed Signature Foam is a 12.5″ foam mattress with an overall performance level that is below average, but a price that is also below average. The result is a budget-friendly mattress that can easily appeal to sleepers looking for a mattress under $1,000, understanding there will be some performance sacrifices along the way.

Advantages

Aside from the low price tag, other advantages of the GhostBed Signature Foam mattress include better edge support and faster off-gassing than average as well.

The GhostBed warranty is also longer than average (average is 13 years).

Neutral Factors

This mattress has deep sinkage and low levels of bounce. Neither of these two factors are considered advantages or disadvantages, but depending on what exactly you’re looking for, sleepers may respond differently to these factors.

Ghostbed Signature Foam Lounging
Ghostbed Signature Foam Lounging

Disadvantages

Disadvantages include slightly worse cooling than average and slightly higher motion transfer levels (8% more motion than average). The response time is also a bit slower than average, 0.3 seconds to be mostly recovered and 1.6 seconds for full recovery.

Sex score takes a dip, with a score of only 7.7. This is largely due to the low levels of bounce since bounce is so critical for good sex performance.

8.0

Cooling Test

The GhostBed Signature Foam has good cooling. During our tests, I felt a slight level of heat retention around my body, but it wasn’t anything extreme. Even so, it’s clear there is room for improvement with respect to cooling.

Baseline Temp.

74.2° F

Max. Temp.

91.0° F

Ending Temp.

82.0° F

Ultimately, we have a fairly simple all-foam design that utilizes memory foam within the comfort layer. The all-foam design simply doesn’t breathe as well as a hybrid.

Ending Temp.

  • Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
  • Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
  • Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes

In addition, the memory foam layer also retains more heat than many types of poly foam will. According to Ghostbed, the mattress is equipped with a temperature-regulating fabric and cooling fibers.

However, in our tests, I did not experience any cooling feel on the cover. The cover feels perfectly fine, but it doesn’t create a cool-to-the-touch feel, in my view.

In our objective temperature tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 91.0° F. This is 1.1° more than the average of 89.9° F, based on all of our tests to date.

After getting off the mattress, the temperature declined by 5.8 degrees from minutes 0 to 1, which is 1.1 degrees cooler than the average 0 to 1 minute decline of 4.7 degrees.

Heat Dissipation Over Time

Ghostbed Signature Foam Heat Dissipation Chart

When we consider the combination of objective data, my subjective experiences, and an analysis of the materials, I’m confident in my view that cooling is good.

Sinkage Test

The GhostBed Signature Foam has deep sinkage. During our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 2.34″. This is 0.16″ more sinkage than the average sinkage depth of 2.18″, based on all of our tests to date. The mattress creates a balanced body contouring hug.

Sinkage Depth

2.34″

Sinkage Feel

Deep

The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

Ghostbed Signature Foam Sinkage Test
Ghostbed Signature Foam Sinkage Test

The mattress uses a mix of quilted cover, memory foam, and poly foam within the comfort layer. This combination of different material types helps to create a more even, balanced, and less polarizing feel.

The mattress creates a nice body contouring hug, but it’s not extreme and does not have a dramatic memory foam feel. While there is a deep sinkage level, the mattress still has a fairly high degree of pushback.

The topmost comfort foam allows for an immediate sinking into the mattress, but then we have the support layers significantly pushing back on the body.

8.0

Motion Transfer Test

The GhostBed Signature Foam has a low level of motion transfer. During our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 9.43 m/s². This is 9% more motion transfer than the average of 8.67 m/s².

Max. Acceleration

4.40 m/s²

Min. Acceleration

-5.03 m/s²

Accel. Range

9.43 m/s²

The mattress benefits from the all-foam design and inclusion of memory foam within the comfort layer. These design choices help to better dissipate energy and are the primary reason that bounce is below average at just 7.25”.

However, the mattress also has a fairly high degree of pushback, which is something we also experienced as part of our sinkage test.

That higher degree of pushback means transitional support is more abrupt, which is creating a higher level of motion transfer than average.

The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.

In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.14 seconds. Immediately after 0.14 seconds, motion drops off considerably and by 0.58 seconds we’ve returned to near-zero levels of energy.

Ghostbed Signature Foam Motion Transfer Chart

While it’s true there is absolutely room for improvement with respect to motion transfer, it’s still not bad at all. Motion duration is kept to a very reasonable level and motion intensity was only slightly higher than average.

I don’t expect most sleepers will find this motion transfer dynamic to be problematic.

8.4

Response Test

The GhostBed Signature Foam is a mixed bag for material responsiveness, with a very fast mostly recovered response time and a slow fully recovered response time.

Mostly Recovered

0.3 sec.

Fully Recovered

1.6 sec.

In our mostly recovered test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.3 seconds, which is 0.12 seconds faster than the average of 0.42 seconds, based on all of our tests to date.

In our fully recovered responsiveness test, we measured a recovery speed of 1.6 seconds, which is 0.61 seconds slower than the average of 0.99 seconds. This mattress is a tale of two foams.

The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.

On the one hand, we have highly responsive poly foams throughout the mattress. These foams are rebounding back to shape effectively instantly.

On the other hand, we also have a high-density memory foam in the comfort layer. This foam is taking several moments to rebound back to its original shape after it has been compressed. It’s this memory foam that is slowing down the total responsiveness on the mattress.

That slower response means it’s a bit more difficult to move around on the mattress. To be fair, it’s still not bad by any stretch. There are other mattresses we’ve tested with a fully recovered response time of 3 to 5 seconds.

So while there is room for improvement, for most sleepers who enjoy the all-foam feel, I don’t expect this level of material responsiveness will be a major issue.

Bounce Test

The GhostBed Signature Foam has a low level of bounce. During our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 7.25″. This is 1.88″ less bounce than the average of 9.13″, based on all of our tests to date.

Max. Depth

5.05″

Max. Rebound

2.20″

Total Bounce

7.25″

The combination of the all-foam design, in addition to the inclusion of memory foam within the comfort layer, works together to reduce bounce. Foams, especially memory foam, simply return less bounce compared to coil and hybrid mattresses.

Max. Sinkage Depth

Max. Bounce Height

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.

That lower bounce is a major reason that motion transfer is kept to a reasonable level. However, the lower bounce also means that sex performance and ease of movement are negatively impacted.

So you should consider which performance factors are most important to you when deciding on this mattress.

9.2

Edge Support Test

The GhostBed Signature Foam has excellent sitting edge support and excellent lying edge support.

Max. Sinkage

3.50″

Lying Support

Excellent

In our sitting edge support test, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 3.50″. This is 0.50″ less sitting sinkage than the average of 4.00″, based on all of our tests to date.

While lying directly on the edge of the mattress, I felt that the support was excellent in all sleeping positions.

The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.

Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

Ghostbed Signature Foam Edge Support Test With Vest

The Ghostbed Signature Foam benefits from the thicker-than-average total profile height and highly supportive base.

We’ve discussed some of the challenges with the more supportive base and less gradual transitional support and its impact on motion transfer, sinkage, and pressure relief earlier.

The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.

While there are certainly negatives in those performance areas, that more abrupt and solid pushback is greatly beneficial for edge support. It helps ensure the edge is highly supportive, doesn’t collapse, and is a usable surface area for sitting, sleeping, and sex.

Overall, I’m pleased with the level of edge support performance and don’t expect it will be an issue for most sleepers.

7.7

Sex Test

The GhostBed Signature Foam has fair sex performance. First, let’s talk through what the mattress does well. Noise is minimal and edge support is excellent.

With just 3.50” of sitting edge sinkage, the edge of the mattress is incredibly robust, which means it is an effective and usable surface for amorous activities.

Ghostbed Signature Foam Edge Support
Ghostbed Signature Foam Edge Support

Moving on we have both cooling and pressure relief, both of which earned good scores, but also scores that are far from great.

Even so, both cooling and pressure relief should be good enough for most couples so as to be a non-issue. Lastly, we have bounce at 7.25” of total bounce height.

Sex FactorFactor WeightScoreRating
Bounce65%7.0Moderate
Edge Support20%9.4Excellent
Noise5%10Minimal
Pressure Relief5%8.0Good
Cooling5%8.0Good

This is notably below the average bounce level and is the single biggest factor holding down the total sex performance on the mattress. When it comes to sex, more bounce is almost always better. The lower-than-average bounce makes sex more tiring and strenuous.

8.0

Pressure Relief Test

The GhostBed Signature Foam has a good level of pressure relief. During our tests, I felt some slight pressure on my body, but it was nothing too extreme. Overall, I found the mattress comfortable, and yet, it’s clear it doesn’t rise to the excellent or outstanding levels of pressure relief.

Comfort Layer

5.5″

Support Layer

7″

The mattress is equipped with 5.5″ of comfort material, which is 1.27″ more comfort material than the average comfort layer thickness of 4.23″, based on all of our tests to date.

In my view, the greatest pressure relief issue on the Ghostbed Signature Foam is simply the level of pushback. While the mattress does have a deep sinkage level, it also has an abrupt pushback, creating a “wall” of sorts.

What this means is the body sinks through the softer top comfort layers and then more abruptly impacts the more supportive layers.

Ghostbed Signature Foam Back Sleeping
Ghostbed Signature Foam Back Sleeping

In our tests, I found that pushback was quite abrupt and it left my body feeling some slight pressure.

To be fair, it wasn’t in all of our pressure relief tests, but it was often enough that I’m confident in my view that the more abrupt pushback is a problem area for pressure relief.

In our pressure mapping tests, we measured a max PSI of 0.89. This is within the general range I hope to see and yet, it’s also higher than many other mattresses we’ve tested.

The more expensive Ghostbed Luxe Foam had a max PSI of 0.64 and had significantly better pressure relief with a more gradual and even transitional support.

When I consider our objective pressure mapping tests, material thickness, material quality, and my subjective experience on the mattress, I’m confident most sleepers will find the pressure relief to be good and yet, also far from great.

8.6

Off-Gassing Test

The GhostBed Signature Foam had a strong smell upon the initial unboxing. The mattress smelled for 5 days. This is 1.6 days shorter than the average smell duration of 6.6 days.

How firm is GhostBed Signature Foam?

The GhostBed Signature Foam comes in a single firmness, 6 out of 10, which gives the mattress a medium-firm feel. Medium-firm works well for most body types and sleeping positions.

Firmness Chart

Support & Sleeping Positions

Support on the GhostBed Signature Foam is good. During our tests, I felt well supported in all sleeping positions. The mattress is equipped with a 7.0″ support layer.

This is 0.92″ thinner than the average support layer thickness of 7.92″, based on all of our tests to date. The mattress has a medium-firm feel, which is appropriate to most body types and sleeping positions.

Ghostbed Signature Foam Pressing On Foams
Ghostbed Signature Foam Pressing On Foams

In addition, the Ghostbed Signature Foam uses a zoned foam with the poly foam layer in the core of the mattress. This layer has a more supportive foam layer in the center third of the mattress, which helps to resist sagging and body impressions.

It also creates more support in the middle of the mattress where most sleepers carry most of their weight. All that said, this mattress isn’t ideal for all sleepers. To find the support dynamic comfortable, you’ll need first, be okay with a greater level of pushback and second, really like the all-foam feel.

Check out the table below to see the sleeper weights and sleeping positions that would be best suited for this mattress.

Sleeper WeightStomach SleeperSide SleeperBack Sleeper
Under 150 lbs.YesYesYes
150-250 lbs.YesYesYes
250-300 lbs.YesYesYes

First, this mattress has a high degree of pushback. The body sinks through the top comfort layers fairly quickly and then abruptly comes into contact with the more supportive layers.

Throughout our tests, I felt that this level of abrupt and significant supportive pushback resulted in less-than-amazing pressure relief. The second big factor to consider is that you’ll really need to like the all-foam feel.

Ghostbed Signature Foam Corner
Ghostbed Signature Foam Corner

The mattress uses a mix of a quilted cover, memory foam, and poly foam, which creates a more balanced and even feel. While it does use memory foam, it doesn’t have the dramatic and exacting hug that many memory foam mattresses create. This is neither good nor bad, but it is a more specific feel.

If you’re expecting a memory foam mattress with a dramatic hug and contour, you will be disappointed. Based on all of my tests to date, an analysis of the materials, and my subjective experiences, I’m confident that most sleepers will find support on the GhostBed Signature Foam to be good.

Design

The GhostBed Signature Foam is a 12.5″ foam mattress that comes in a single firmness option—Medium-Firm. This mattress comes in at the mid-tier level from GhostBed. (Base Tier: Comfort, Mid-Tier: Signature, Top: Luxe).

Product Evolution

GhostBed first launched in 2015 and hit the market with one mattress, the GhostBed Classic. In 2017, the GhostBed Luxe and GhostBed Flex were launched.

In May 2025, GhostBed launched the GhostBed Signature Foam, in addition to launching 5 other models. At the same time, Ghostbed discontinued their previous flagship models, including the Ghostbed Classic and Ghostbed Flex, and the original Ghostbed Luxe.

As mentioned above, the GhostBed Signature Foam mattress is the mid-tier foam mattress offered by GhostBed. For something more budget-friendly, check out the GhostBed Comfort Foam ($699 for a queen) or for something with higher performance, check out the GhostBed Luxe Foam ($1,499 for a queen).

The GhostBed Luxe Foam scored an 8.83 in our performance tests and would be a good option for sleepers who have the budget for it.
