Updated

6/18/2025 Update – In May 2025, Ghostbed discontinued the original Ghostbed Luxe and launched a new design with their Ghostbed Luxe Foam. Our tests and review below are for the new design currently being sold.

Best For

  • Great cooling performance with limited heat retention, especially for an all-foam mattress
  • Fantastic pressure relief with robust 7.0″ comfort layer
  • Plush quilted cover with very deep sinkage

Considerations

  • Very low bounce is not great for sex performance
  • Slower material response time
  • Shorter than average 101-night trial period

Our Verdict

The GhostBed Luxe Foam mattress is a 14″ foam mattress made of memory foam, poly foam, support foam, and a quilted cover. It is a more robust version of the GhostBed Comfort Foam mattress and offers advanced performance.

The GhostBed Luxe Foam is available in a single firmness level — medium-firm, 6 out of 10 on our firmness scale.

This mattress has very deep sinkage and very low levels of bounce.

In our performance tests, this mattress earned an overall score of 8.83, ranking the mattress in the top 34% of all mattresses tested to date. If we look exclusively at all-foam mattresses, that rank rises to the top 23% of all foam mattresses tested to date.

The GhostBed Luxe Foam is $1,499 for a queen-sized mattress, which is 41% more than average. If you’re on a tight budget, the Luxe Foam may be a little steep, but if you’re looking for a high-performance all-foam mattress it could be a good choice. However, performance on the GhostBed Luxe Hybrid (9.13) is better than the Luxe Foam if you’re open to a coil support system and don’t mind a slight increase in budget.

How is GhostBed Luxe Foam Different?

The GhostBed Luxe Foam is a 14″ foam mattress with an overall performance level that is better than average, but a price tag that is also more than average—$1,499 for a queen mattress, 40% more than the average foam mattress, costing sleepers an extra $433.

Advantages

Specific advantages to the GhostBed Luxe include better cooling performance, lower levels of motion transfer, and fantastic pressure relief. The mattress has a 7.0″ comfort layer thickness, which helps to eliminate pressure points, especially along the hips, spine, and neck.

Neutral Factors

This mattress has very deep sinkage and very low levels of bounce. These two factors are considered “neutral” and are more preferential, as different sleepers will have different opinions of these factors.

Ghostbed Luxe Foam 2025 Sitting
Ghostbed Luxe Foam Sitting

Disadvantages

The GhostBed Luxe does have slower material responsiveness and a worse sex score than average. Ultimately, the very low level of bounce has a dramatic negative impact on sex performance.

This won’t necessarily be a disadvantage to all sleepers, but if you’re looking for a mattress that can help improve amorous activities, this isn’t it.

9.0

Cooling Test

The GhostBed Luxe Foam has excellent cooling. During our tests, I did not feel any significant level of heat retention around my body.

Baseline Temp.

77.9° F

Max. Temp.

91.4° F

Ending Temp.

81.4° F

The mattress is equipped with a cooling cover, which does create a notable cool-to-the-touch feel. After a few minutes of lying in the same position, the cover loses some of that initial cool feeling and there is a more neutral temperature feel.

In my view, this seems to have more to do with the limited airflow due to the all-foam design, and less to do with the cover specifically.

Max. Temp.

Ending Temp.

Ghostbed Luxe Foam 2025 After Cooling Test
Ghostbed Luxe Foam After Cooling Test
  • Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
  • Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
  • Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes

The Ghostbed Luxe is also equipped with a gel and graphite-infused foam, which I expect also has some positive impact on cooling. All that said, I did find the cooling experience on the Luxe Foam to be worse than the Ghostbed Luxe Hybrid version.

That added airflow from the coils made a notable cooling difference between the two model versions, and the max temperature was 1.1° cooler on the hybrid compared to the all-foam version.

In our objective temperature tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 91.4° F. This is 1.5° warmer than the average of 89.9° F, based on all of our tests to date.

After getting off the mattress, the temperature declined by 7.3° from minutes 0 to 1, which is 2.6° cooler than the average 0 to 1 minute decline of 4.7°.

Heat Dissipation Over Time

Ghostbed Luxe Foam 2025 Heat Dissipation Chart

When we consider the combination of objective data, my subjective experiences, and an analysis of the materials, I’m confident in my view that cooling is excellent.

Sinkage Test

The GhostBed Luxe Foam has very deep sinkage. During our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 2.72″. This is 0.54″ more sinkage than the average sinkage depth of 2.18″, based on all of our tests to date.

Sinkage Depth

Sinkage Feel

The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

The mattress creates a balanced body contouring hug. The Ghosted Luxe Foam uses a mix of a quilted cover, memory foam, and poly foam. This combination of different material types creates a less polarizing feel and one that many different types of sleepers can enjoy.

The quilted cover is fairly thick at 2.0”. That thicker quilted cover creates an immediate softness and pressure relief when you first lie on the mattress. Despite the fact that we have a 1.5” memory foam layer, the mattress does not have a dramatic memory foam feel.

Ghostbed Luxe Foam 2025 Cover Pattern
Ghostbed Luxe Foam Cover Pattern

The combination of quilted cover and poly foam balances out the total comfort dynamic. To be clear, the mattress still creates a nice body contouring hug, but it’s not the same type of sharp and exacting hug that many memory foam mattresses are known for.

In my view, this is beneficial, as the total feel is less polarizing and therefore can better meet the needs of a wider range of sleep preferences.

9.2

Motion Transfer Test

The GhostBed Luxe Foam has a very low level of motion transfer. During our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 6.69 m/s². This is 23% less motion transfer than the average of 8.66 m/s².

Max. Acceleration

2.67 m/s²

Min. Acceleration

-4.02 m/s²

Accel. Range

6.69 m/s²

The mattress benefits from the all-foam design, thicker-than-average total profile, and inclusion of a 1.5” memory foam layer near the top of the comfort layer.

This combination of material and design choices reduces bounce and better disperses energy and motion.

The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.

In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.15 seconds. Immediately thereafter, we see a notable motion decline and by the time we get to 0.88 seconds, we’ve returned to near-zero levels of energy.

Ghostbed Luxe Foam 2025 Motion Transfer Chart

While the motion duration is a touch longer than I expected, I’m not overly worried given the significantly below average level of motion intensity.

Overall, I’m pleased with this level of motion transfer and I expect it will be more than low enough for most sleepers.

6.8

Response Test

The GhostBed Luxe Foam is a mixed bag for material responsiveness, with a moderate mostly recovered response time and a very slow fully recovered response time.

Mostly Recovered

0.6 sec.

Fully Recovered

2.0 sec.

In our mostly recovered test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.6 seconds, which is 0.18 seconds slower than the average of 0.42 seconds, based on all of our tests to date.

In our fully recovered responsiveness test, we measured a recovery speed of 2.0 seconds, which is 1.01 seconds slower than the average of 0.99 seconds.

The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.

In general, all foam mattresses are slower to respond compared to many other mattress types. In addition, both memory foam and quilted covers tend to be slower (compared to other material types and other cover types).

The combination of the all-foam design, quilted cover, and high-density 1.5” memory foam layer are all working together to slow the material responsiveness on this mattress.

Ghostbed Luxe Foam 2025 Sinkage Demonstration 2
Ghostbed Luxe Foam Sinkage

When you combine these elements together in a single mattress design, it creates a responsiveness speed that is notably slower than average for both our mostly and fully recovered responsiveness tests.

The slower recovery speeds make this mattress more difficult to move around on and change positions, especially when combined with the deeper sinkage level.

Bounce Test

The GhostBed Luxe Foam has a very low level of bounce. During our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 5.54″. This is 3.60″ less bounce than the average of 9.14″, based on all of our tests to date.

Max. Depth

4.45″

Max. Rebound

1.09″

Total Bounce

5.54″

The lower level of bounce is a product of the all-foam design and 1.5” higher-density memory foam layer.

These design and material choices greatly disperse energy, which means there is simply less energy available to create a higher level of bounce.

Max. Sinkage Depth

Ghostbed Luxe Foam 2025 Bounce Depth

Max. Bounce Height

Ghostbed Luxe Foam 2025 Bounce Rebound

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.

Bounce is a bit of a double-edged sword. While this lower bounce makes ease of movement and sex performance worse, it is also the reason that motion transfer is very low.

As a result, sleepers should consider the pros and cons of bounce and which is more important, sex and ease of movement or lowering motion transfer?

9.1

Edge Support Test

The GhostBed Luxe Foam has excellent sitting edge support and excellent lying edge support.

Max. Sinkage

3.75″

Lying Support

Excellent

In our sitting edge support test, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 3.75″. This is 0.25″ less sitting sinkage than the average of 4.00″, based on all of our tests to date.

The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

While lying directly on the edge of the mattress, I felt that the support was excellent in all sleeping positions.

The Ghostbed Luxe Foam mattress benefits from the thicker-than-average total profile height, high-quality materials, and medium-firm feel.

The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.

This combination of factors creates robust support for both sitting and lying edge support. Notably, the mattress does not use any type of reinforced support foam along the perimeter.

I was a bit disappointed to see this, as a perimeter support foam would have likely improved edge support from the excellent to the outstanding level. Despite this fact, edge support is still solid and should be more than sufficient for most sleepers.

7.1

Sex Test

The GhostBed Luxe Foam has fair sex performance. First up, let’s start by talking through the positives.

Noise was minimal, with both pressure relief and cooling being excellent. Overall, I found the mattress comfortable and it created no undue noise.

Ghostbed Luxe Foam 2025 Edge Support Sitting
Ghostbed Luxe Foam Edge Support Sitting

Moving on, edge support also earned an excellent score. With just 3.75” of sitting edge sinkage, the edge support is robust enough to be effective for amorous activities. The only area where sex performance is weak is bounce.

Sex FactorFactor WeightScoreRating
Bounce65%5.9Very Low
Edge Support20%9.1Excellent
Noise5%10Minimal
Pressure Relief5%10Outstanding
Cooling5%9.0Excellent

At just 5.54” of total bounce height, the level of bounce is considerably lower than average. The lower bounce means the mattress is more strenuous, tiring, and difficult to have sex on.

To be fair, that lower bounce is also the primary reason that motion transfer is so low. So there are certainly pros and cons to consider. Even so, the low bounce has a significant negative impact on sex performance.

10

Pressure Relief Test

The GhostBed Luxe Foam has an outstanding level of pressure relief. During our tests, I felt no significant pressure points on my body.

The mattress is equipped with 7.0” of comfort material, which is 2.85″ more comfort material than the average comfort layer thickness of 4.15″, based on all of our tests to date.

Comfort Layer

7.0″

Support Layer

7.0″

The mattress uses a mix of quilted cover, memory foam, and poly foam to create a balanced, even, and non-polarizing feel.

Over the years, I’ve tested many foam mattresses with memory foam comfort layers that create a hard feel and a body contour that’s so dramatic it can make many sleepers feel as if they are stuck in a crater.

Ghostbed Luxe Foam 2025 Comfort Layer Feel
Ghostbed Luxe Foam Comfort Layer Feel

The Ghostbed Luxe avoids this extreme feel and creates a more balanced hug around the body. The quilted cover, in particular, feels fantastic on my back and shoulders.

It creates an immediate softness and pressure relief when you first lie down, while the other foam layers more gradually conform to your body’s shape.

In our pressure mapping tests, we measured a max PSI of 0.64. A PSI of 2.0 is a high pressure point and the Ghostbed Luxe was nowhere near that level.

When I consider our objective pressure mapping tests, material thickness, material quality, and my subjective experience on the mattress, I’m confident most sleepers will find the pressure relief to be excellent.

Off-Gassing Test

The GhostBed Luxe Foam had a strong smell upon the initial unboxing. The mattress smelled for 5 days. This is 1.6 days shorter than the average smell duration of 6.6 days.

How firm is GhostBed Luxe Foam?

The GhostBed Luxe Foam is available in a single firmness, 6 out of 10, which gives the mattress a medium-firm feel.

Firmness Chart

This firmness is widely preferred by many sleepers for its balanced feel—not too soft, yet not too firm.

Support & Sleeping Positions

Support on the GhostBed Luxe Foam is excellent. During our tests, I felt well supported in all sleeping positions.

The mattress is equipped with a 7.0″ support layer. This is 0.93″ thinner than the average support layer thickness of 7.93″, based on all of our tests to date.

Ghostbed Luxe Foam 2025 Back Sleeping
Ghostbed Luxe Foam Back Sleeping

For a mattress to create ideal support, it must both keep the body well-supported and in a neutral spinal alignment, while also creating sufficient comfort and pressure relief.

The Ghostbed Luxe is able to accomplish that. The 7.0” comfort layer is considerably thicker than average, uses high-quality materials, and is incredibly comfortable.

Those layers provide plenty of pressure relief, which allows the body to remain supported in the same position without needing to continually adjust positions. In addition, poly foam within the core of the mattress is zoned.

Ghostbed Luxe Foam 2025 Pressing Down On Comfort Foam
Ghostbed Luxe Foam Pressing Down On Comfort Foam

It has a center section of foam that’s firmer, which will create better support and spinal alignment for sleepers. It will also better resist body impressions and sagging.

Moving on, the mattress has a medium-firm feel. Medium-firm is ideal for all sleeping positions and most body types.

Check out the table below to see the sleeper weights and sleeping positions that would be best suited for this mattress.

Sleeper WeightStomach SleeperSide SleeperBack Sleeper
Under 150 lbs.YesYesYes
150-250 lbs.YesYesYes
250-300 lbs.YesYesYes

The mattress can support up to 300 pounds on each side. Notably, this mattress feels like a significant step up over the Ghostbed Signature Foam. The feel, the support, the look, and the pressure relief are all notably better.

While the Signature Foam is a perfectly fine mattress, the Luxe Foam feels like a luxury-level mattress by comparison.

Based on all of my tests to date, an analysis of the materials, and my subjective experiences, I’m confident that most sleepers will find the support on the GhostBed Luxe Foam to be excellent.

Design

The GhostBed Luxe Foam is a 14″ foam mattress that comes in a single firmness option—Medium-Firm. It is designed to be a step up version of the more budget-friendly Ghostbed Comfort Foam and Signature Foam mattresses.

Product Evolution

GhostBed first launched in 2015 and hit the market with one mattress, the GhostBed Classic.

In 2017, the GhostBed Luxe and GhostBed Flex were launched.

In May 2025, GhostBed launched the GhostBed Luxe Foam, in addition to launching 5 other models. At the same time, Ghostbed discontinued their previous flagship models, including the Ghostbed Classic, Ghostbed Flex, and Ghostbed Luxe (the new Luxe Foam is a replacement for the original Ghostbed Luxe).

The Luxe Foam is designed to be a blend between performance and value, but it does sit at the higher end of GhostBed’s pricing range.

You can see how the new Ghostbed Luxe Foam compares to the now discontinued Ghostbed Luxe below:

In comparing the original and now discontinued Ghostbed Luxe to the new Luxe Foam model we see that performance is fairly similar between the two models

Notably, pressure relief on the new Luxe Foam is notably improved, which makes sense given the considerably thicker than average 7.0 comfort layer.

However, the new model does lose some points compared to the original version. With motion transfer being slightly worse, while response time and sex performance are notably worse.
