How is Ghostbed Luxe Hybrid Different?
The Ghostbed Luxe Hybrid is a 14″ hybrid mattress with an overall performance level that is better than the average mattress, but also a price that is slightly higher than average.

Advantages
Even with the higher price, the GhostBed Luxe has numerous categories that perform better than average. It scores a 10/10 for exceptional cooling performance, motion transfer is slightly better than average, and lying edge support is excellent.
Neutral Factors
This mattress has deep sinkage and low levels of bounce. These two factors are more preferential than anything else, but it is important to consider if you know you’re looking for a specific feel.
Disadvantages
The Luxe Hybrid does have a slightly slower material response time and edge support is a little lacking. When sitting at or near the edge, we experienced 4.50″ of sinkage, where 4.0″ is the average level.
The mattress also has lower levels of bounce so sex performance is worse than average. If you’re looking for an active, high-energy mattress for intimacy, this likely isn’t the best pick for you.
Ghostbed has a 101-night trial, which is 69 nights shorter than the 170-night trial period.
Cooling Test
The Ghostbed Luxe Hybrid has outstanding cooling. During our tests, I did not feel any significant level of heat retention around my body.
Baseline Temp.
73.9° F
Max. Temp.
90.3° F
Ending Temp.
77.9° F
The mattress is equipped with a cooling cover, which creates a notable cool-to-the-touch feel when you initially lie down on the mattress.
Even after lying in the same position for 15 minutes the mattress cover maintained much of its cooling feel. Beyond the cooling cover, the mattress utilizes a graphite and gel-infused poly foam, which seems to do a nice job at resisting heat.
Max. Temp.

Ending Temp.

- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
Lastly, we have the hybrid design itself, which brings extra airflow into the mattress. This combination of design and material choices works together to create fantastic cooling performance.
In our objective temperature tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 90.3° F. This is 0.5° more than the average of 89.8° F, based on all of our tests to date.
After getting off the mattress, the temperature declined by 5.6° from minutes 0 to 1, which is 0.9° cooler than the average 0 to 1 minute decline of 4.7°.
Heat Dissipation Over Time

When we consider the combination of objective data, my subjective experiences, and an analysis of the materials, I’m confident in my view that cooling is outstanding.
Sinkage Test
The Ghostbed Luxe Hybrid has deep sinkage. During our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 2.49″. This is 0.31″ more sinkage than the average sinkage depth of 2.18″, based on all of our tests to date.
Sinkage Depth
2.49″
Sinkage Feel
Deep
The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

The mattress creates a balanced body contouring hug using a mix of foam and material types to help create a more even and less polarizing feel. The Ghostbed Luxe Hybrid is equipped with a quilted cover, graphite and gel-infused poly foam, poly foam, and pocketed coils.
This combination of layers works together to create fantastic pressure relief and body contouring hug, without said hug being too extreme or overly enveloping (as many memory foam mattresses can be ).
This mattress doesn’t create any type of a stuck feel or excessive hug. That said, there is still a body contouring and a moderate level of hug, but that feel is more relaxed, balanced, and even.
Motion Transfer Test
The Ghostbed Luxe Hybrid has a low level of motion transfer. During our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 7.66 m/s². This is 11% less motion transfer than the average of 8.65 m/s².
Max. Acceleration
3.06 m/s²
Min. Acceleration
-4.60 m/s²
Accel. Range
7.66 m/s²
The combination of a thick total comfort layer and a thick quilted cover both help to notably reduce motion transfer. The material choices and design also create a level of bounce that is well below average.
When bounce is more restrained, there is simply less energy capable of creating disruptive motion transfer.
The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.
In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.14 seconds. Motion drops off immediately thereafter and by 0.65 seconds, we’ve returned to near-zero levels of energy.

Overall, I’m pleased with this level of motion. Motion intensity is well below average, and motion duration, while not the best we’ve seen, is sufficiently fast enough to be a non-issue.
I don’t expect most sleepers will find this level of motion transfer to be a problem.
Response Test
The Ghostbed Luxe Hybrid is a mixed bag for material responsiveness, with a fast mostly recovered response time and a moderate fully recovered response time.
Mostly Recovered
0.4 sec.
Fully Recovered
1.0 sec.
In our mostly recovered test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.4 seconds, which is 0.02 seconds faster than the average of 0.42 seconds, based on all of our tests to date.
In our fully recovered responsiveness test, we measured a recovery speed of 1.0 seconds, which is 0.02 seconds slower than the average of 0.98 seconds.
The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.
The fastest responsiveness mattresses we’ve tested mostly recover within 0.2 seconds and fully within 0.3 seconds. Suffice to say, the Ghostbed Luxe Hybrid isn’t quite at that level.
Even so, it’s not bad by any stretch. A 0.4-second mostly recovered time is solid. In addition, the 1.0-second full recovery, while not the bets we’ve measured, shouldn’t be an issue for most sleepers.

The topmost layer of comfort foam, which feels a bit like a poly foam and a bit like a memory foam (we’re calling it a poly foam in our materials analysis), is certainly slowing down the total material responsiveness slightly.
The other poly foam layers and the coil layer spring back to shape effectively instantly. The Ghostbed Luxe Hybrid benefits in that the body contouring hug isn’t excessive or overly enveloping. This helps aid in ease of movement and prevents any type of a “stuck” feel.
Bounce Test
The Ghostbed Luxe Hybrid has a low level of bounce. During our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 6.92″. This is 2.22″ less bounce than the average of 9.14″, based on all of our tests to date.
Max. Depth
5.23″
Max. Rebound
1.69″
Total Bounce
6.92″
The thicker-than-average foam comfort layer, thick and densely packed quilted cover, and higher density poly foam top layer are all working together to reduce bounce.
The lower bounce does have a negative impact on ease of movement; however, that negative impact is balanced out by the reasonably fast response time. Where the lower bounce is more problematic is for sex performance, which we’ll discuss more just a bit down the page.
Max. Sinkage Depth

Max. Bounce Height

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.
All that said, bounce is a double-edged sword. While low bounce is a negative for ease of movement and sex, it is also a major reason that motion transfer is lower. So there are pros and cons to consider.
Edge Support Test
The Ghostbed Luxe Hybrid has good sitting edge support and excellent lying edge support.
Max. Sinkage
4.50″
Lying Support
Excellent
In our sitting edge support test, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 4.50″. This is 0.50″ more sitting sinkage than the average of 4.00″, based on all of our tests to date.
At this sitting sinakge level, the performance is perfectly fine, but also far from amazing. While sitting with the weighted vest you can clearly see a more noted level of compression.
The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

While lying directly on the edge of the mattress, I felt that the support was excellent in all sleeping positions. The Luxe Hybrid uses a 6.0” layer of support foam that runs along the entire perimeter of the mattress.
The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.

Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.

This foam is greatly helping to improve lying edge support, but it doesn’t appear to be making as big of an impact for sitting edge support.
Beyond the edge support foam, we have high-quality materials and a thicker-than-average total profile, both of which are also helping to create more robust edge support.
Sex Test
The Ghostbed Luxe Hybrid has fair sex performance. First up, let’s talk through the positives. Noise is minimal and both pressure relief and cooling are outstanding. So no issues with respect to comfort and excessive sound.

For edge support we had a good level of performance, but also one that is worse than average. When edge support isn’t as robust it can mean the usable surface area of the mattress simply isn’t as big.
Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
---|---|---|---|
Bounce | 65% | 6.8 | Low |
Edge Support | 20% | 8.1 | Good |
Noise | 5% | 10 | Minimal |
Pressure Relief | 5% | 10 | Outstanding |
Cooling | 5% | 10 | Outstanding |
All that said, the most significant problem area for sex is the level of bounce. At 6.92” of bounce, it’s just not enough to create ideal sex performance on the mattress.
The lack of bounce makes sex more strenuous, difficult, and tiring. While the Ghostbed Luxe Hybrid excels in many areas, sex is not among them.
Pressure Relief Test
The Ghostbed Luxe Hybrid has an outstanding level of pressure relief. During our tests, I felt no pressure points on my body.
Comfort Layer
7.0″
Support Layer
6.5″
The Luxe Hybrid creates a comfortable, balanced, and even feel that most sleepers and body types will enjoy. The mattress is equipped with 7.0″ of comfort material, which is 2.83″ more comfort material than the average comfort layer thickness of 4.17″, based on all of our tests to date.
That significantly thicker-than-average comfort layer is paying big dividends when it comes to pressure relief and comfort. In addition, the design and material layering where we have a quilted cover, multiple types of poly foam, and a hybrid design are all coming together to deliver fantastic pressure relief.
You can feel the top poly foam contouring and hugging the body, but it’s restricted by the quilted cover and poly foam within the core in a way that helps avoid any type of stuck feel or excessive hug.

In our pressure mapping tests, we measured a max PSI of 0.91. This is well within the ideal pressure range we hope to see and nowhere near the 2.0 PSI that represents a severely high pressure point.
Pressure Map – Side Sleepers

Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
---|---|---|
Side Sleepers | 0.13 | 0.91 |
Pressure Map – Back Sleepers

Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
---|---|---|
Back Sleepers | 0.08 | 0.70 |
Pressure Map – Stomach Sleepers

Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
---|---|---|
Stomach Sleepers | 0.09 | 0.52 |
When I consider our objective pressure mapping tests, material thickness, material quality, and my subjective experience on the mattress, I’m confident most sleepers will find the pressure relief to be outstanding.
Off-Gassing Test
The Ghostbed Luxe Hybrid had a strong smell upon the initial unboxing. The mattress smelled for 5 days. This is 1.6 days shorter than the average smell duration of 6.6 days

Company
GhostBed mattresses come with a 101-night trial period and a 25-year warranty. Shipping and returns are both free.
Company Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Data |
---|---|---|---|
Trial Period | 15% | 8.0 | 101 nights |
Warranty | 10% | 10 | 25 years |
Shipping | 5% | 10 | $0 |
Returns | 20% | 10 | $0 |
Trust | 50% | 9.0 | Excellent |
Country of Origin | 0% | USA |
Comparing 101+ brands tested to date, the average trial period is 170 nights, 69 nights more than GhostBed offers. The average warranty is 13 years, so GhostBed’s 25-year warranty is significantly longer than average.
That being said, 41% of all mattress brands we’ve tested offer lifetime warranties so while GhostBed is longer than the 13-year average, it is obviously shorter than the lifetime warranty.

How firm is Ghostbed Luxe Hybrid?
The GhostBed Luxe Hybrid is available in a single firmness, 6 out of 10, which gives the mattress a medium-firm feel.

This firmness is widely preferred by many sleepers for its balanced feel—not too soft, yet not too firm.
Support & Sleeping Positions
Support on the Ghostbed Luxe Hybrid is excellent. During our tests, I felt well supported in all sleeping positions. The mattress is equipped with a 6.5″ support layer.
This is 1.43″ thinner than the average support layer thickness of 7.93″, based on all of our tests to date.
While the support layer is moderately thinner than average, the total profile height of the mattress is thicker than average. In addition, the comfort layer is also thicker than average.
While we would have to have seen a thicker-than-average support layer, the extra comfort materials certainly have a positive impact on the total support dynamic as well.

The Luxe Hybrid creates zoned support by using a reinforced foam layer in the core of the mattress in the center third position. This layer helps to prevent body impressions and sagging in the middle of the mattress.
In addition, the medium-firm feel makes this mattress a good choice for the vast majority of body types and sleeping positions.
With respect to material quality in both terms of foams and coils, I’m pleased with what I see. All materials look and feel high quality.
Check out the table below to see the sleeper weights and sleeping positions that would be best suited for this mattress.
Sleeper Weight | Stomach Sleeper | Side Sleeper | Back Sleeper |
---|---|---|---|
Under 150 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
150-250 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
250-300 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Based on all of my tests to date, an analysis of the materials, and my subjective experiences, I’m confident that most sleepers will find support on the Ghostbed Luxe Hybrid is excellent.

The Cover
The Ghostbed Luxe Hybrid has a plush 2.0″ thick quilted cover. Subtle stitching details give the mattress a soft, yet structured feel.

This mattress uses GhostBed’s Ice cover, designed specifically for enhanced cooling performance, by integrating temperature-regulating cooling fibers within every stitch.
The Comfort Layer
The comfort layer is 7.0″ thick and made of three layers of poly foam. There is a 1.5″ gray poly foam on top, a 1.5″ white poly foam in the middle, and a 2.0″ transitional poly foam at the base of the stack.

These three layers work together to provide a comfort dynamic that is thicker and more impressive than the GhostBed Signature Hybrid. If you’re looking for better pressure relief and comfort, upgrading to the Luxe Hybrid may be an appropriate choice.
The Support Layer
The support layer is 6.5″ thick and made of pocketed coils and support foam. The coils are on the shorter side, only 6.0″ high. Typically, coils within a 12″ hybrid are 8.0″ high, but that doesn’t necessarily mean worse performance.

The coils are backed by a 1.5″ foam base, which provides additional support to the layers above.
Product Evolution
GhostBed first launched in 2015 and hit the market with one mattress, the GhostBed Classic.
In 2017, the GhostBed Luxe and Ghostbed Flex were launched.
In May 2025, Ghostbed launched the Ghostbed Luxe Hybrid (in addition to launching 5 other models). The Ghostbed Luxe Hybrid is the replacement for the Ghostbed Flex.
You can see how the Ghostbed Flex compares to the Luxe Hybrid below:
Ghostbed Flex

Ghostbed Luxe Hybrid

Specs | Ghostbed Flex (Discontinued) | Ghostbed Luxe Hybrid (Current Version) |
---|---|---|
Overall Score | 9.15 | 9.13 |
Thickness | 13″ | 14″ |
Firmness | Medium-Firm (6) | Medium-Firm (6) |
Cover | Quilted Cover | Quilted Cover |
Comfort Layer | 1.5″ Quilted Cover 1.0″ Memory Foam 1.0″ Poly Foam | 2.0″ Quilted Cover 1.5″ Poly Foam 1.5″ Poly Foam 2.00″ Poly foam |
Support Layer | 8.5″ Pocketed Coils 1.0″ support foam | 6.0″ Pocketed Coils 1.0″ Support Foam |
In terms of performance, both the now discontinued Ghostbed Flex and the new Ghostbed Luxe Hybrid are very similar. Performance on the Ghostbed Flex was more well rounded, with no real weak spots.
However, performance on the Luxe Hybrid is notably better with respect to pressure relief and cooling, while being notably worse for sex performance.
The biggest material / design change is the dramatic increase in foam comfort layers on the new Luxe Hybrid. With the launch of the Luxe Hybrid we saw the comfort layer increase from 3.5″ to 7.0″. That is a massive increase. That design change makes it easy to see why pressure relief is so much better on the new Luxe Hybrid.
