Best For
- Good pressure relief for sleepers of all positions
- Value priced under $1,000 for a queen mattress
- Nice edge support, less sinkage than average when seated at the edge of the mattress
Considerations
- Higher levels of motion transfer, 19% more than the average mattress
- Slower off-gassing may be concerning for sensitive sleepers
- 101-night trial period is shorter than average
Our Verdict
The GhostBed Comfort Hybrid mattress is an 11″ hybrid mattress made of poly foam, pocketed coils, and a support foam base. It has a thin, stretchy cover with a reinforced fabric on the sides of the mattress.
The GhostBed Comfort Hybrid is available in a single firmness level — medium-firm. For most sleepers, medium-firm is the ideal firmness level.
This mattress has moderate sinkage and moderate levels of bounce. These levels give the mattress a balanced feel, suitable for a wide range of sleeper preferences.
In our performance tests, this mattress earned an overall score of 8.63, ranking the mattress in the bottom 45% of all mattresses tested to date. If we look exclusively at hybrids, that rank drops even lower to the bottom 38% of all hybrid mattresses tested.
All that being said, this mattress does have some advantages when it comes to price. The GhostBed Comfort Hybrid is $1,049 for a queen-sized mattress, which is 32% less than the average hybrid. For sleepers on a budget, this can be an attractive price point, which makes it easier to overlook the cooling performance and high level of motion transfer.

How is GhostBed Comfort Hybrid Different?
The GhostBed Comfort Hybrid is an 11″ hybrid mattress with an overall performance level that is better than average and a price tag that is also lower than average, among hybrids.

Advantages
Beyond the low price, other advantages of the GhostBed include faster material responsiveness and better edge support as well, both for sitting and lying support. Sex performance, pressure relief, and company score are categories that performed above-average as well.
Neutral Factors
Neutral factors include moderate sinkage and moderate bounce. These factors are considered neutral since different sleepers will have different preferences in this area.
Disadvantages
Disadvantages of the GhostBed Comfort Hybrid include worse cooling performance as well as higher levels of motion transfer.
The mattress also took 8 days to fully off-gas, one day longer than the average.
Cooling Test
The GhostBed Comfort Hybrid has good cooling. During our tests, I felt a slight level of heat retention, but it was nothing I would describe as hot.
Baseline Temp.
75.9° F
Max. Temp.
90.9° F
Ending Temp.
80.7° F
The mattress uses a layer of pocketed coils for support, those coils help to bring air into the mattress. In addition, Ghostbed’s product page says, “…[the] Ghost Ice cover provides a subtle cool-to-the-touch surface…”.
Max. Temp.

Ending Temp.

- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
In our tests, I did not feel that the cover created any notable cooling sensation. To be fair, the fabric seems to be good quality and the thin non-quilted design improves breathability. Even so, it wasn’t enough to overcome the slight heat retention issues we experienced during our tests.
In our objective temperature tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 90.9° F. This is 1.0° more than the average of 89.9° F, based on all of our tests to date.
After getting off the mattress, the temperature declined by 6.4 degrees from minutes 0 to 1, which is 1.6 degrees cooler than the average 0 to 1 minute decline of 4.8 degrees.
Heat Dissipation Over Time

When we consider the combination of objective data, my subjective experiences, and an analysis of the materials, I’m confident in my view that cooling is good.
Sinkage Test
The GhostBed Comfort Hybrid has moderate sinkage. During our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 2.14″. This is 0.06″ less sinkage than the average sinkage depth of 2.20″, based on all of our tests to date.
Sinkage Depth
2.14″
Sinkage Feel
Moderate
The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

The mattress creates a balanced body contouring hug. The top-most foam layer is relatively soft, allowing for immediate sinkage, hug, and pressure relief. However, that higher-performance comfort foam up top is just 2.0” thick.
As a result, the body does come more into contact with the support coil unit, which creates more immediate pushback. In addition, the thin cover on the mattress creates more direct engagement with the foam layers, which helps create more hug around the body.

Even so, it’s not at a level I would call a “dramatic” hug. The mattress uses only poly foam, as opposed to memory foam. The poly foam is highly responsive and doesn’t create any type of a “stuck” feel, which many types of memory foam will.
Motion Transfer Test
The GhostBed Comfort Hybrid has a moderate level of motion transfer. During our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 10.47 m/s². This is 19% more motion transfer than the average of 8.80 m/s².
Accel. Range
10.47 m/s²
Motion Duration
1.13 seconds
The Comfort Hybrid has a combination of factors creating higher bounce and higher motion. The thinner-than-average total height of the mattress, thinner-than-average comfort layer, use of all poly foam instead of memory foam, and the thin cover create the right conditions for more motion transfer.
The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.
This material design created more bounce than average. In addition, the highly responsive and spring materials mean that energy doesn’t easily disperse; instead, it rebounds.
In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.2 seconds. Motion drops off notably thereafter, but we do see a modest secondary spike from 0.50 to 0.65 seconds.
It takes 1.13 seconds for the motion to return to near-zero levels of energy.
Motion Transfer Over Time

This motion duration is slightly longer than the average of 0.99 seconds. All things considered, motion transfer on the Comfort Hybrid just isn’t great. Both motion intensity and motion duration are worse than average.
Response Test
The GhostBed Comfort Hybrid has an extremely fast material response. In our mostly recovered test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.2 seconds, which is 0.2 seconds faster than the average of 0.4 seconds, based on all of our tests to date.
Mostly Recovered
0.2 sec.
Fully Recovered
0.3 sec.
In our fully recovered responsiveness test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.3 seconds, which is 0.69 seconds faster than the average of 0.99 seconds. These response speeds are effectively instant.
The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.
The mattress is able to rebound back to shape immediately, which facilitates great ease of movement and prevents any type of stuck feeling.
Bounce Test
The GhostBed Comfort Hybrid has a moderate level of bounce. During our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 9.40″. This is 0.45″ more bounce than the average of 8.95″, based on all of our tests to date.
Max. Depth
5.04″
Max. Rebound
4.36″
Total Bounce
9.40″
The higher bounce is the result of the same material and design choices that also delivered higher-than-average motion transfer. The thinner total height, thinner comfort layer, use of highly responsive poly foam, and thin cover are all working together to create higher bounce.
Max. Sinkage Depth

Max. Bounce Height

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.
That higher bounce is greatly beneficial for ease of movement and sex performance, but as we noted in our motion transfer tests, it’s also the reason for the higher motion transfer.
Edge Support Test
The GhostBed Comfort Hybrid has excellent sitting edge support and excellent lying edge support.
Max. Sinkage
3.75″
Lying Support
Excellent
In our sitting edge support test, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 3.75″. This is 0.2″ less sitting sinkage than the average of 3.95″, based on all of our tests to date.
The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

While lying directly on the edge of the mattress, I felt that the support was excellent in all sleeping positions. The mattress is equipped with reinforced edge support coils as well as a support foam that wraps the entire perimeter. The edge support foam is 3.5″ wide and 5.0″ tall.
The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.

Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.

This combination of firmer coils and foam are having a significant positive impact on both lying and sitting edge support. It’s quite rare to see a mattress with both reinforced edge coils and perimeter support foam, and rarer yet at this price point.

Suffice to say, it’s fantastic to see these design and material choices in the mattress and it’s clear they are a major reason for the strong edge support.
Sex Test
The GhostBed Comfort Hybrid has good sex performance. On the positive side, noise is minimal and both pressure relief and edge support are excellent.
With just 3.75” of sitting edge sinkage, the edge support is better than average and highly supportive, making the edge a usable part of the mattress for amorous activities.

Moving on, cooling earned a good score, even if it’s far from perfect. Nevertheless, it will be good enough for most couples. Lastly, we have bounce, which also earned a good, but not great score.
Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
---|---|---|---|
Bounce | 65% | 8.4 | High |
Edge Support | 20% | 9.1 | Excellent |
Noise | 5% | 10 | Minimal |
Pressure Relief | 5% | 9.0 | Excellent |
Cooling | 5% | 8.0 | Good |
With 9.40” of bounce height, the Comfort Hybrid has slightly more bounce than average. Even so, when it comes to bounce more is almost always better and the mattress would have certainly benefited from an increased bounce height.
Pressure Relief Test
The GhostBed Comfort Hybrid has an excellent level of pressure relief. During our tests, I felt no significant pressure points on my body.
The mattress is equipped with 4.0″ of comfort material, which is 0.26″ less comfort material than the average comfort layer thickness of 4.26″, based on all of our tests to date.
Comfort Layer
4″
Support Layer
7″
The Comfort Hybrid creates an immediate level of softness and comfort, while also gradually transitioning sleepers into the more supportive layers. This comfort dynamic helped to deliver fantastic pressure relief.
In our tests, of the Ghostbed Comfort Foam we noted that pressure relief was not as good as what we experienced with the Comfort Hybrid. The coil unit on the hybrid version simply creates better transitional support, whereas the all-foam version creates a more abrupt pushback, which limits pressure relief.
The foam quality on the Comfort Hybrid looks and feels to be a reasonably good quality foam. Certainly, it’s not the best we’ve seen, but given the price, it seems appropriate.

In our pressure mapping tests, we measured a max PSI of 0.62, which is well within the 1.0 PSI threshold we hope to see. Overall, this feels like a solid mattress given the cost.
Is pressure relief perfect? Definitely not, but it’s better than average and will be sufficient for most sleepers. Overall, this also feels more like a value-oriented mattress and less of a luxury mattress.
For sleepers who want a more high-end experience, I would recommend the Ghostbed Luxe Hybrid.
Pressure Map – Side Sleepers

Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
---|---|---|
Side Sleepers | 0.13 | 0.62 |
Pressure Map – Back Sleepers

Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
---|---|---|
Back Sleepers | 0.08 | 0.52 |
Pressure Map – Stomach Sleepers

Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
---|---|---|
Stomach Sleepers | 0.09 | 0.44 |
When I consider our objective pressure mapping tests, material thickness, material quality, and my subjective experience on the mattress, I’m confident most sleepers will find the pressure relief to be excellent.
Off-Gassing Test
The GhostBed Comfort Hybrid had a strong smell upon the initial unboxing. The mattress smelled for 8 days. This is 1.8 days longer than the average smell duration of 6.8 days.

Comparing 100+ brands tested to date, the average trial period is 170 nights, 69 nights more than Ghostbed offers.
The GhostBed also has a 25-year warranty, 12 years longer than the 13-year average. Of course, this does exclude 41% of all mattresses that offer lifetime warranties.

How firm is GhostBed Comfort Hybrid?
The Ghostbed Comfort Hybrid is available in a single firmness, medium-firm, rating as a 6 out of 10 on our firmness scale.

This firmness is generally suitable for a wide range of sleepers, including most body weights and sleeping positions.
Support & Sleeping Positions
Support on the GhostBed Comfort Hybrid is excellent. During our tests, I felt well supported in all sleeping positions.
The mattress is equipped with a 7.0″ support layer. This is 0.89″ thinner than the average support layer thickness of 7.89″, based on all of our tests to date.

The foam within the core is zoned, meaning it is more supportive in the center third of the mattress. This extra support helps to create better spinal alignment and also better resists sagging and body impressions over time.
In addition, the mattress has a medium-firm feel, which is well-liked by most sleepers and ideal for most body types and all sleeping positions.
Check out the table below to see the sleeper weights and sleeping positions that would be best suited for this mattress.
Sleeper Weight | Stomach Sleeper | Side Sleeper | Back Sleeper |
---|---|---|---|
Under 150 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
150-250 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
250-300 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
In addition to creating ample support, pressure relief is also more than sufficient, which allows the body to stay comfortable in the same positions for extended periods of time, improving restful sleep.
Based on all of my tests to date, an analysis of the materials, and my subjective experiences, I’m confident that most sleepers will find support on the GhostBed Comfort Hybrid to be excellent.

The Cover
The GhostBed Comfort Hybrid has a thin cover. While this is GhostBed’s “Ghost Ice” cover, designed for better cooling, I wasn’t impressed by the cooling performance on this mattress.

The mattress struggled with higher levels of heat retention than expected and the cover did not seem to notably improve the cooling experience on this mattress.
The Comfort Layer
The comfort layer is 4.0″ thick and made of two layers of poly foam. On top, there is a 2.0″ poly foam (gray) followed by a second 2.0″ poly foam (white). Together, these layers provide a 4.0″ comfort system above the support layer.

The Support Layer
The support layer is 7″ thick and is a combination of a 6″ tall coil unit and 1″ support foam layer.
Additionally, the support layer is not a zoned foam. Higher-end mattresses sometimes employ the use of zoned support layers for better support and pressure relief. But to keep the price low, the GhostBed Comfort Hybrid skips this design.

I will add, there is a layer of foam that reinforces the edge and prevents the coils from running end-to-end. As mentioned above, the addition of foam encased edges and stronger coils located at the edge of the mattress is pretty rare to see, especially at this price point.
Product Evolution
GhostBed first launched in 2015 and hit the market with one mattress, the GhostBed Classic.
Over the years, more mattresses have been added to the lineup. The GhostBed Comfort Hybrid was added in 2025, as the base level among 3 new hybrid mattresses (the Comfort Hybrid, the Signature Hybrid, and the Luxe Hybrid).
This mattress offers the lowest price hybrid point from GhostBed and is a good option for sleepers who want a hybrid but also want to save cash.
