Best For

  • Fast material responsiveness

Considerations

  • Higher levels of motion transfer, especially for a foam mattress
  • Lacking edge support
  • Cooling is good, but not great

Our Verdict

The GhostBed Comfort Foam mattress is an 11″ foam mattress made of poly foam and support foam. It has a basic design, but also a budget price that makes it an attractive choice.

The GhostBed Comfort Foam is available in a single firmness level — medium-firm, 6 out of 10 on our firmness scale.

This mattress has moderate sinkage and moderate levels of bounce, giving the mattress a balanced feel.

In our performance tests, this mattress earned an overall score of 8.33, ranking the mattress in the bottom 28% of all mattresses tested to date.

But while the GhostBed isn’t making the top charts for performance, it can still turn heads for the low price. The GhostBed Comfort Foam is $849 for a queen-sized mattress, which is 23% less than the average foam mattress.

How is GhostBed Comfort Foam Different?

The GhostBed Comfort Foam is a 11″ foam mattress with an overall performance level that is below average, but a price that is also well below the average.

Advantages

Advantages of the GhostBed Comfort Foam include faster material responsiveness, faster off-gassing, and a better company score as well.

The Comfort Foam off-gasses in 5 days, whereas the average is 7 days. GhostBed also offers a 25-year warranty, which is longer than the average of 13 years (excluding 41% of mattresses that have lifetime warranties).

Neutral Factors

This mattress has moderate sinkage and moderate bounce as well. Sex is also a bit of a neutral factor as the score is right at the average (8.3).

Disadvantages

With the lower price of the GhostBed also comes a handful of disadvantages, including worse cooling performance, higher levels of motion transfer, and weaker edge support. Pressure relief also struggled in our tests.

8.0

Cooling Test

The GhostBed Comfort Foam has good cooling. During our tests, I experienced a slight level of heat retention around my body. Even so, it was nothing extreme or overly hot.

Baseline Temp.

74.9° F

Max. Temp.

90.5° F

Ending Temp.

80.7° F

This mattress has a simple all foam design. All foam designs are not ideal for cooling, as the foam limits breathability compared to mattresses that contain coils. The mattress is also equipped with a cooling cover.

Max. Temp.

Ending Temp.

Ghostbed Comfort Foam After Cooling Test

  • Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
  • Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
  • Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes

According to Ghostbed, said cooling cover “… provides a subtle cool-to-the-touch surface…” In our tests, I did not experience any cool-to-the-touch feel. In my view, the cover feels like a good quality fabric, but the cooling properties were not noticeable.

In our objective temperature tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 90.5° F. This is 0.6° more than the average of 89.9° F, based on all of our tests to date.

Heat Dissipation Over Time

Ghostbed Comfort Foam V 1 3 Heat Dissipation Chart

After getting off the mattress, the temperature declined by 5.6 degrees from minutes 0 to 1, which is 0.8 degrees cooler than the average 0 to 1 minute decline of 4.8 degrees. When we consider the combination of objective data, my subjective experiences, and an analysis of the materials, I’m confident in my view that cooling is good.

Sinkage Test

The GhostBed Comfort Foam has moderate sinkage. During our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 2.17″. This is 0.03″ less sinkage than the average sinkage depth of 2.20″, based on all of our tests to date.

Sinkage Depth

2.17″

Sinkage Feel

Moderate

The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

Ghostbed Comfort Foam Sinkage Test
Ghostbed Comfort Foam Sinkage Test

The mattress creates a balanced body contouring hug. While the mattress does create hug and body contour, it doesn’t create a sharp or exacting hug, which is common with more traditional memory foam mattresses.

This feel makes sense, given that the comfort layers are more highly responsive poly foams and not memory foam. The mattress is equipped with a thin cover, as opposed to a quilted cover or pillowtop.

This thin fabric cover allows sleepers to create a more notable level of engagement with the foam layers.

The top most foam layer immediately allows the body to sink down into it, creating a nice level of comfort and pressure relief. However, you do quickly hit the more supportive foams, which push back and support the body.

7.6

Motion Transfer Test

The GhostBed Comfort Foam has a moderate level of motion transfer. During our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 10.24 m/s². This is 16% more motion transfer than the average of 8.79 m/s².

Accel. Range

10.24 m/s²

Motion Duration

0.90 seconds

Typically, all foam mattresses would have a lower level of motion transfer. However, that’s not what we measured with the Comfort Foam. This mattress is equipped with 4.0” of poly foam comfort layers.

The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.

These layers are highly responsive and create a high degree of pushback.

This combination results in higher bounce, which was notably more than average bounce at 8.95”. The higher bounce is the prime driver of the increase in motion transfer.

In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.2 seconds.

Ghostbed Comfort Foam V 1 3 Motion Transfer Chart

The total motion duration measured at 0.90 seconds, which is just slightly worse than the average motion duration of 0.88 seconds.

Overall, motion transfer is fine, but also far from great.

10

Response Test

The GhostBed Comfort Foam has an extremely fast material response. In our mostly recovered test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.2 seconds, which is 0.2 seconds faster than the average of 0.40 seconds, based on all of our tests to date.

Mostly Recovered

0.2 sec.

Fully Recovered

0.3 sec.

In our fully recovered responsiveness test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.3 seconds, which is 0.69 seconds faster than the average of 0.99 seconds.

This is effectively an instant material recovery and is tied for 1st with the fastest mattresses we’ve tested to date.

The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.

The all poly foam comfort layer and thin cover create the right material conditions to deliver fast response. The fast responsiveness ensures that the mattress is easy to move around on and it won’t create any type of stuck feel for sleepers.

Bounce Test

The GhostBed Comfort Foam has a moderate level of bounce. During our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 9.47″. This is 0.52″ more bounce than the average of 8.95″, based on all of our tests to date.

Max. Depth

5.40″

Max. Rebound

4.07″

Total Bounce

9.47″

The higher-than-average bounce can primarily be attributed to the 4.0” comfort foam built entirely of poly foam. The poly foam utilized is highly responsive, springing back to shape effectively instantly, which helps increase bounce.

Max. Sinkage Depth

Max. Bounce Height

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.

The thin cover and thinner-than-average total 11” profile are also factors helping to create more bounce. The higher bounce is responsible for the higher-than-average motion transfer.

However, more bounce also creates better sex performance and better ease of movement, so there are pros and cons worth considering.

7.9

Edge Support Test

The GhostBed Comfort Foam has fair sitting edge support and good lying edge support.

Max. Sinkage

4.75″

Lying Support

Good

In our sitting edge support test, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 4.75″. This is 0.8″ more sitting sinkage than the average of 3.95″, based on all of our tests to date.

The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.

Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

While lying directly on the edge of the mattress, I felt that the support was good in all sleeping positions. In my view, it’s fair to say that both sitting and lying edge support on the Ghostbed Comfort Foam leaves something to be desired.

The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.

Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.

Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.

Even so, this edge support performance is about what we expect from an all-foam mattress at this price point. This is a fairly simple design, but one that is thinner than average, with a thinner-than-average comfort layer, and no reinforced edge support foam.

Had the mattress been thicker, with a thicker comfort layer, or been equipped with reinforced edge support foam it would have likely improved the edge support performance.

And yet, it would have done so at a higher cost. As such, I don’t feel like I should complain too much given the relatively low price of the mattress. Much like motion transfer, edge support is fine, and yet, far from great.

8.3

Sex Test

The GhostBed Comfort Foam has good sex performance. Let’s start with the biggest pro, which is noise, which earned a perfect score. Moving on we have a solid bounce score at 9.47” of total bounce height, which is higher more than average.

Ghostbed Comfort Foam Edge Sitting
Ghostbed Comfort Foam Edge Sitting

Strong bounce is the most critical factor for amorous activities and the high bounce here allowed the Comfort Foam to earn a solid sex score, especially considering the all foam design.

Moving on, we have good enough performances from cooling and pressure relief. Neither are great, but they aren’t bad either.

Sex FactorFactor WeightScoreRating
Bounce65%8.4High
Edge Support20%7.8Fair
Noise5%10Minimal
Pressure Relief5%8.0Good
Cooling5%8.0Good

Last but not least, edge support earned a less-than-great score due the 4.75” of sitting edge sinkage.

Deeper edge sinkage means the edge of the mattress just isn’t as functionally usable at the edge. Despite this shortcoming, overall sex performance on the mattress is good.

8.0

Pressure Relief Test

The GhostBed Comfort Foam has a good level of pressure relief. Even so, it’s clear that pressure relief has room for improvement. Ghostbed’s more expensive Signature Hybrid, Luxe Hybrid, and Luxe Foam models all had notably better pressure relief in our tests of those models.

Comfort Layer

4″

Support Layer

7″

The mattress is equipped with 4.0″ of comfort material, which is 0.26″ less comfort material than the average comfort layer thickness of 4.26″, based on all of our tests to date.

The mattress is equipped with highly responsive poly foam layers and creates a balanced body contouring hug. This fast response makes the mattress easy to move around on.

In addition, the topmost foam layer immediately allows the body to sink down into it, creating a nice level of comfort and pressure relief.

Ghostbed Comfort Foam Back Sleeping
Ghostbed Comfort Foam Back Sleeping

The mattress is also equipped with zoned support with a more supportive foam in the center 1/3rd of the mattress.

That will help to resist body impressions and sagging in the middle of the mattress. The foams seem to be a reasonably good quality that is appropriate for this price point.

And yet, the mattress simply doesn’t create as much pressure relief as many other Ghostbed models we’ve tested.

In our pressure mapping tests, we measured a max PSI of 0.81, which is well within the 1.0 PSI range we want to see.

When I consider our objective pressure mapping tests, material thickness, material quality, and my subjective experience on the mattress, I’m confident most sleepers will find the pressure relief to be good, but not amazing.

8.6

Off-Gassing Test

The GhostBed Comfort Foam had a strong smell upon the initial unboxing. The mattress smelled for 5 days. This is 1.9 days shorter than the average smell duration of 6.9 days.

Support & Sleeping Positions

Support on the GhostBed Comfort Foam is excellent. During our tests, I felt well supported in all sleeping positions.

The mattress is equipped with a 7.0″ support layer. This is 0.89″ thinner than the average support layer thickness of 7.89″, based on all of our tests to date. In addition, the mattress has a medium-firm firmness.

Medium-firm is ideal for most body types and sleeping positions, so that’s certainly a plus. In addition, the mattress uses zoned support with a more supportive foam in the center 1/3rd of the mattress.

That will help to resist body impressions and sagging in the middle of the mattress.

The Cover

The GhostBed Comfort Foam has a thin cover. While this is GhostBed’s “Ghost Ice” cover, designed for better cooling, I really was not impressed by the cooling performance on this mattress.

The Comfort Layer

The comfort layer is 4.0″ thick and made of two layers of poly foam. On top, there is a 2.0″ poly foam (gray) followed by a second 2.0″ poly foam (white). Together, these layers provide a 4.0″ comfort system above the support layer.

The Support Layer

The support layer is 7″ thick and made of a firmer support foam. This base is 100% foam and contains no coils.

Additionally, the support layer is not a zoned foam. Higher-end mattresses sometimes employ the use of zoned support layers for better support and pressure relief.

Product Evolution

GhostBed first launched in 2015 and hit the market with one mattress, the GhostBed Classic.

Over the years, more mattresses have been added to the lineup. The GhostBed Comfort Foam was added in 2025, as a replacement to the GhostBed Classic.

This mattress offers the lowest price point from GhostBed and is an all-foam option for sleepers on a tighter budget.

Below, you can see a comparison of the GhostBed Classic vs. GhostBed Comfort Foam:

GhostBed Classic

When we tested the GhostBed Classic in 2021, it earned an overall performance score of 8.76.

The new GhostBed Comfort Foam has a lower overall performance score of 8.33 and also seems to use more basic materials. It skips the latex foam entirely and swaps the gel memory foam for a transitional poly foam.
