Best For

  • Cooling performance, 10/10 score with no significant level of heat retention
  • Great pressure relief, despite having a thinner comfort layer than average
  • Option to opt out of the trial period ($200 savings)

Considerations

  • Sex score struggles, largely due to low bounce
  • Longer off-gassing duration than average
  • Deeper sinkage may not be right for all back or stomach sleepers

Our Verdict

The Durable mattress is a 15″ hybrid made of poly foam, pocketed coils, and a quilted cover.

The Durable is available in three firmness levels — soft, medium (feels like a medium-firm), and firm.

In our tests of the medium version, this mattress has deep sinkage and low levels of bounce. This type of feel can be great for many types of sleepers, but especially side sleepers. Sleepers who are looking for less sinkage may do better with the Firm version of this mattress.

In our performance tests, this mattress earned an overall score of 9.04, ranking the mattress in the top 19% of all mattresses tested to date. Looking exclusively at hybrid mattresses, that rank drops to the top 27%, but still an above-average score.

The Durable is $1,699 for a queen sized mattress, which is 11% more expensive than the average hybrid mattress. This ends up being a difference of only about $175 compared to the average. Given its higher performance, the Durable is an attractive hybrid option worth considering.

Advantages

Specific advantages of this mattress include better cooling performance, lower levels of motion transfer, faster material response time, better edge support, and better pressure relief as well.

Durable also has a better company score than average as well, backed by a lifetime warranty for their mattress as well as a 100-night trial period.

Neutral Factors

The Durable mattress has deep sinkage and low levels of bounce. If you’re specifically looking for deeper hug, the Durable could be just the right feel for you.

Disadvantages

Disadvantages of the Durable hybrid include a lower sex score (due to the low level of bounce) and longer off-gassing. In our tests, this mattress took 8 days too off-gas, only 1 day longer than average. Even so, these are relatively minor detractors compared to all of the strong performance areas.

Cooling Test

The Durable has outstanding cooling. During our tests, I did not feel any significant level of heat retention around my body. This mattress is a hybrid design, which brings plenty of air into the mattress.

Baseline Temp.

76.3° F

Max. Temp.

88.8° F

Ending Temp.

83.8° F

In addition, the comfort layer is composed mostly of a branded poly foam called Serene. I’ve tested Serene foam previously and been impressed with the performance.

  • Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
  • Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
  • Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes

Based on our cooling data, it seems to breathe well and avoids excess heat retention. In addition, the relative thinness of the comfort layer is also helping to limit heat retention, as there is simply less material in which heat can be easily retained within.

Durable cooling test

In our objective temperature tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 88.8° F. This is 1.2° less than the average of 90.0° F, based on all of our tests to date.

After getting off the mattress, the temperature declined by 1.4 degrees from minutes 0 to 1, which is 3.4 degrees warmer than the average 0 to 1 minute decline of 4.8 degrees.

Heat Dissipation Over Time

Durable Heat Dissipation Chart

While the 0 to 1 minute temperature decline is worse than average, the max temperature starting point is notably lower than average, as a result I am not concerned by the 0 to 1 minute temp decline.

When we consider the combination of objective data, my subjective experiences, and an analysis of the materials, I’m confident in my view that cooling is excellent.

Sinkage Test

The Durable has deep sinkage. During our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 2.37″. This is 0.15″ more sinkage than the average sinkage depth of 2.22″, based on all of our tests to date.

The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

Durable Sinkage Test
Durable Sinkage Test

The mattress creates a balanced body contouring hug. The comfort layer is a mix of a specialized poly foam called Serene and a quilted cover. The Serene foam feels a bit like a memory foam and a bit like a more responsive poly foam.

It creates a noted body contouring hug like memory foam, but it’s also highly responsive and springs back to its original shape after it has been compressed. Overall, I found the sinkage depth, body hug, and responsive feel created a balanced and even feel that many types of sleepers will enjoy.

8.8

Motion Transfer Test

The Durable has a low level of motion transfer. During our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 7.70 m/s². This is 12% less motion transfer than the average of 8.78 m/s².

Accel. Range

7.70 m/s²

Motion Duration

0.78 seconds

The Serene foam seems to be having a strong and positive impact on motion transfer. In addition, I suspect the flippable design is also helping to reduce motion, as a soft cushioned base will help to minimize motion transferred into the frame and foundation.

The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.

In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion. By 0.78 seconds we’ve returned to near zero levels of energy, which is 0.10 seconds shorter than the average motion duration of 0.88 seconds.

Motion Transfer Over Time

Durable Motion Transfer Chart

Motion intensity is lower than average and motion duration is less than average. When we look at the complete data picture I’m pleased with the performance level and I don’t expect motion transfer will be a problem for most sleepers.

9.4

Response Test

The Durable is a mixed bag for material responsiveness, with an extremely fast mostly recovered response time and a moderate fully recovered response time.

Mostly Recovered

0.2 sec.

Fully Recovered

1.0 sec.

In our mostly recovered test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.2 seconds, which is 0.20 seconds faster than the average of 0.40 seconds, based on all of our tests to date.

In our fully recovered responsiveness test, we measured a recovery speed of 1.0 seconds, which is 0.01 seconds slower than the average of 0.99 seconds.

The primary comfort layer Serene foam rebounds back to shape effectively instantly. However, the quilted material within the cover takes a moment to fully form back to shape.

The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.

While the responsiveness isn’t quite instant it’s not slow by any measure. I expect most sleepers will find the material recovery speed to be more than satisfactory. At no point did I feel stuck in the mattress or have any difficulties with ease of movement.

Bounce Test

The Durable has a low level of bounce. During our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 6.91″. This is 1.94″ less bounce than the average of 8.85″, based on all of our tests to date.

Max. Depth

Max. Rebound

Total Bounce

This mattress is equipped with a soft quilted cover and a 2.0” thick layer of Serene foam. Both of these will suppress the bounce. However, the biggest suppressive force on bounce is the flippable design.

Max. Bounce Height

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.

Because there is a layer of comfort material on the base of the mattress that means there is a less rigid, supportive surface on the bottom, which results in a lower energy rebound, which means bounce is lower.

That lower bounce is a major reason why motion transfer is also lower. However, a lower bounce is a negative for sex performance. So there are pros and cons to consider.

8.9

Edge Support Test

The Durable has good sitting edge support and excellent lying edge support.

In our sitting edge support test, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 4.00″. This is 0.05″ more sitting sinkage than the average of 3.95″, based on all of our tests to date.

The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

While lying directly on the edge of the mattress, I felt that the support was excellent in all sleeping positions.

The Durable mattress is equipped with reinforced edge support coils that run along the entire perimeter of the mattress. These coils are clearly having a significant and positive impact on edge support for both sitting and lying.

The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.

Beyond the edge coils, the mattress has a thicker than average total height, reasonable sinkage depth, and thicker than average support layer.

All of these design choices are helping to create more robust support in general, which is helping to ensure edge support is excellent.

7.6

Sex Test

The Durable has fair sex performance. First up, let’s talk through the positives. Noise is minimal, cooling is outstanding, and pressure relief is excellent. With a middling performance edge support is good, though it did not rise to the excellent or outstanding level.

Durable Edge Sitting
Durable Edge Sitting

We measured 4.00” of sitting edge sinkage. At that level the edge is a supportive and a functionally usable part of the mattress for amorous activities.

Lastly, but certainly not least, we have bounce. Bounce height measured at 6.91”, which is notably lower bounce than average.

Sex FactorFactor WeightScoreRating
Bounce65%6.8Low
Edge Support20%8.8Good
Noise5%10Minimal
Pressure Relief5%9.0Excellent
Cooling5%10Outstanding

More bounce is almost always better than less when it comes to sex and the lower than average bounce on the Durable does this mattress no favors for amorous activities.

The lower bounce has a significant negative impact on the overall sex performance and as such, the sex score is well below average.

9.0

Pressure Relief Test

The Durable has an excellent level of pressure relief. During our tests, I felt no significant pressure points on my body. The Durable mattress was comfortable to lie on for an extended period of time.

Comfort Layer

3.25″

Support Layer

11.75″

The mattress is equipped with 3.25″ of comfort material, which is 1.03″ less comfort material than the average comfort layer thickness of 4.28″, based on all of our tests to date.

Certainly, I have liked to have seen a thicker comfort layer. Thicker comfort layers typically create better pressure relief, durability, and comfort.

Even so, despite the thinner than average comfort layer I found the mattress comfortable. The Serene foam looks and feels high quality both on the body and in-hand.

Durable Side Sleeping
Durable Side Sleeping

In our objective pressure mapping tests, we measured a max PSI of 0.93. This is within the 1.0 PSI threshold that I ideally want to see.

When I consider our objective pressure mapping tests, material thickness, material quality, and my subjective experience on the mattress, I’m confident most sleepers will find the pressure relief to be excellent.

How firm is Durable?

The Durable mattress is available in three firmness options, as well as having a flippable design. We tested the medium version.

Medium Version

In our tests, I found the medium to have a medium-firm feel, 6 out of 10 in our performance tests.

Firmness Chart

Soft Version

I would estimate the Soft version to have a soft feel (4 out of 10).

Firmness Chart 4

Firm Version

The firm version would be estimated to have a firm feel (8 out of 10) on our firmness scale.

This range of firmnesses makes the Durable mattress an attractive option for sleepers with different needs and preferences.

Support & Sleeping Positions

Support on the Durable is excellent. During our tests, I felt well supported in all sleeping positions. The mattress is equipped with a 11.75″ support layer.

This is 3.85″ thicker than the average support layer thickness of 7.9″, based on all of our tests to date. The mattress is equipped with a zoned pocketed coil unit.

Zoned coil units help create better support, reduce sagging, and are typically more durable.

The Durable mattress is also equipped with reinforced coils along the perimeter, which increases the total supportive sleeping area on the mattress. In addition, this mattress is available in 3 firmness levels, soft, medium, and firm.

This wide range of firmness options helps ensure you have a firmness that works well for your sleeping position and body type (see our tables down below).

Design

The Durable is a 15″ flippable hybrid mattress that comes in three firmness options—Soft, Medium (medium-firm feel), and Firm. It has a quilted cover, handles on the side of the mattress, and arrives compressed in a box.

Design FactorData

This mattress is flippable, but not in the way that we usually see. Flippable mattresses often have two different firmness levels on each side of the mattress.

But with the Durable hybrid, both sides of the mattress are identical. The idea is that by having the same firmness on each side of the mattress you can extend the usable life of the mattress.

The Comfort Layer

The comfort layer is 3.3″ thick, including the quilted covers. The primary portion of the comfort layer is a 2.0″ poly foam (blue foam). This foam is designed to be responsive and breathable, giving the mattress a balanced feel.

While many mattresses contain a comfort foam and a transitional foam (to help ease the transition between comfort material and the support layer below), that’s not something that we see with the Durable hybrid.

The Support Layer

The support layer is 8.5″ thick and made of a central core of pocketed coils. These coils are individually encased in a thin fabric. On a queen sized mattress, there are 1,030 coils on this mattress.

Firmer coils are used at the edges for better support and the center of the mattress is also zoned.

Product Evolution

Durable Mattress is a newer company, having just launched in Spring 2025. Being new to the mattress market, the company has just a single mattress model, the Durable hybrid, available in three firmness levels.

But offering add-ons like “White Glove Delivery” and an “Optional Trial Period” for $200 in savings if you opt out can be attractive features for sleepers looking for something specific.
