How is Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance Elite Different?
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance Elite is a 15.50″ hybrid mattress with an overall performance level that is better than average and a price tag that is more expensive than the average hybrid—62% more than average.
Advantages
With the higher price comes a long list of advantages, including fantastic cooling, lower levels of motion transfer, and excellent edge support.
Pressure relief is exceptional also, earning a score of 10/10 in our tests. The mattress comes with a 6.0″ comfort layer, within the 15.5″ total thickness.
Neutral Factors
This mattress has deep sinkage and low levels of bounce. There is a dramatic degree of contour as well. All of these “feel factors” can be pros or cons depending on exactly what type of mattress you’re looking for.

Disadvantages
The biggest disadvantages of the ThermoBalance Elite are the higher price tag and a slower material response time. It’s the pillow top cover and top layer memory foam that provide this deeper contour and slower response time.
While it’s listed as a “disadvantage” here, it’s important to note that slower material time is somewhat of an expected trade-off when you have a mattress that delivers a dramatic memory foam body contour.
Cooling Test
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance Elite has outstanding cooling. During our tests, I did not feel any significant level of heat retention around my body.
Baseline Temp.
73.6° F
Max. Temp.
89.1° F
Ending Temp.
78.1° F
Quite the opposite in fact, the mattress was exceedingly comfortable and had a notably cool feel.
The ThermoBalance Elite is equipped with a cooling cover that utilizes cooling fibers woven within the fabric. These fibers create a cool-to-the-touch feel and it remained cooler for the duration of my cooling tests.
Max. Temp.

Ending Temp.

- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
In addition, the topmost layer of foam uses phase change materials (PCM). PCMs are designed to maintain a consistent and cooler temperature.
When we combine the cooling cover, PCM in the top foam, high-quality and breathable foams throughout the mattress, and pocketed coil unit bringing extra airflow in, we have a ton of cooling features, materials, and design elements working together to deliver fantastic cooling performance.
In our objective temperature tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 89.1° F. This is 1.1° cooler than the average of 90.2° F, based on all of our tests to date.
After getting off the mattress, the temperature declined by 3.5 degrees from minutes 0 to 1, which is 1.3 degrees less cool than the average 0 to 1 minute decline of 4.8 degrees.
Heat Dissipation Over Time

When we consider the combination of objective data, my subjective experiences, and an analysis of the materials, I’m confident in my view that cooling is outstanding.
Sinkage Test
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance Elite has deep sinkage. During our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 2.42″. This is 0.18″ more sinkage than the average sinkage depth of 2.24″, based on all of our tests to date.
Sinkage Depth
2.42″
Sinkage Feel
Deep
Body Contour
Dramatic
The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

The mattress creates a more dramatic hug around the body. This mattress uses a mix of poly foam, memory foam, and a thick pillow top cover. These materials create more hug and deeper sinkage.
However, the hug isn’t as sharp or exacting as a more traditional memory foam mattress can be. So even though we have more hug, it’s still a less polarizing type of a hug than many different types of sleepers will enjoy, in my view.
Motion Transfer Test
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance Elite has a low level of motion transfer. During our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 7.52 m/s². This is 15% less motion transfer than the average of 8.82 m/s².
Accel. Range
7.52 m/s²
Motion Duration
1.04 seconds
This mattress is equipped with a 6.00” comfort layer, which is considerably thicker than the average comfort layer thickness. All of those extra foams help to absorb and disperse energy, which creates less bounce.
The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.
In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.2 seconds. Motion declines notably thereafter.
By 1.04 seconds, we’ve returned to near-zero levels of energy, which is 0.15 seconds longer than the average motion duration of 0.89 seconds.
Motion Transfer Over Time

While the might duration is slightly longer than average, the motion intensity is notably less than average. As a result, I expect most sleepers will find this level of motion transfer to be perfectly satisfactory.
Response Test
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance Elite has a slow material response.
Mostly Recovered
0.7 sec.
Fully Recovered
1.5 sec.
In our mostly recovered test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.7 seconds, which is 0.28 seconds slower than the average of 0.42 seconds, based on all of our tests to date. In our fully recovered responsiveness test, we measured a recovery speed of 1.5 seconds, which is 0.48 seconds slower than the average of 1.02 seconds.
The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.
This mattress is equipped with a considerably thicker-than-average 6.00” comfort layer and uses multiple memory foam layers. These design choices, in addition to the deep sinkage, create the right conditions for a slower material recovery speed.

That slower response time makes it a bit harder to move around on the mattress and change positions. That said, and to be fair, this is far from the worst material recovery speeds we’ve measured. But if you are sensitive to ease of movement concerns, this is something you should consider.
If you like the idea of the ThermoBalance Elite, but just want a faster response, take a look at the standard version of the ThermoBalance. See our review here.
Bounce Test
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance Elite has a low level of bounce. During our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 7.55″.
Max. Depth
5.30″
Max. Rebound
2.25″
Total Bounce
7.55″
This is 1.16″ less bounce than the average of 8.71″, based on all of our tests to date. The biggest driver of the lower bounce is simply the super-thick comfort layer. This mattress utilizes 6.00” of varying foams on top of the coil unit.
Those foams mean there just isn’t as much rebound or bounce. The lower bounce is a major reason why motion transfer was also lower than average.
Max. Sinkage Depth

Max. Bounce Height

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.
When there is less bounce for a mattress to contend with, there is less energy and motion transferred across the mattress.
While lower bounce is great for reducing motion transfer, it also means that ease of movement and sex performance are negatively impacted.
Edge Support Test
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance Elite has excellent sitting edge support and outstanding lying edge support.
Max. Sinkage
3.25″
Lying Support
Outstanding
Reinforced Edge
Yes
In our sitting edge support test, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 3.25″. This is 0.62″ less sitting sinkage than the average of 3.87″, based on all of our tests to date.
The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

While lying directly on the edge of the mattress, I felt that the support was outstanding in all sleeping positions. This mattress is equipped with reinforced edge support coils that run along the entire perimeter of the mattress.
These coils have a lower gauge and firmer feel, helping to create more robust support and less sinkage along the edge.
The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.

Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.

When we combine the reinforced edge coils with the thicker-than-average total profile height, 6.0” comfort layer, and high-quality materials at every level, we have all the right conditions to deliver fantastic edge support.
Sex Test
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance Elite has good sex performance. This mattress earned excellent or outstanding scores in 4 of our 5 sex testing categories.

We see outstanding cooling and pressure relief, minimal noise, and excellent edge support. In our edge test, we measured just 3.25” of sitting edge compression. This creates a more robust edge and extends the usable surface area of the mattress, which is a boon for amorous activities.
| Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bounce | 65% | 7.2 | Moderate |
| Edge Support | 20% | 9.7 | Excellent |
| Noise | 5% | 10 | Minimal |
| Pressure Relief | 5% | 10 | Outstanding |
| Cooling | 5% | 10 | Outstanding |
All that said, where we see less than great sex performance is bounce. We measured bounce at 7.55”. This is a good bit lower than average bounce, and the biggest factor holding the sex score down.
Lower bounce makes sex more tiring and strenuous. All that said and all factors considered, sex is still good, but it’s fair to say it’s far from great.
Pressure Relief Test
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance Elite has an outstanding level of pressure relief. During our tests, I felt no significant pressure points on my body.
Comfort Layer
6.00″
Support Layer
9.50″
Very much the opposite, in fact, I found this mattress to be incredibly comfortable, even while lying in the same position for an extended period of time. The mattress is equipped with 6.0″ of comfort material, which is 1.7″ more comfort material than the average comfort layer thickness of 4.3″, based on all of our tests to date.
In all mattress tests, we make it a point to cut the mattress open and examine the material quality. In doing so, I found the materials to look and feel excellent, both on the body and in-hand.

Brooklyn Bedding is manufactured by the parent company, 3Z, which also builds Helix.
In my tests and assessments of this mattress, I found the materials, build, and design look and feel very similar to the Helix Elite lineup. At the same time, the ThermoBalance Elite is notably less expensive, making this mattress a fantastic value.
This mattress uses higher-density foams, including a 4.0 PCF poly foam and 5.0 PCF memory foam. Higher-density foams are more durable and resist sagging better than lower-density foams.

Having a mattress that’s less likely to form body impressions is always great for pressure relief, as the most common support & comfort problem on a mattress as it ages is sagging in the spot where you mostly sleep.
In our objective pressure mapping tests, we measured a max PSI of 0.46, which is well within the 1.0 PSI threshold I want to see.
Pressure Map – Side Sleepers

| Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Side Sleepers | 0.08 | 0.27 |
Pressure Map – Back Sleepers

| Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Back Sleepers | 0.06 | 0.46 |
Pressure Map – Stomach Sleepers

| Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Stomach Sleepers | 0.06 | 0.27 |
When I consider our objective pressure mapping tests, material thickness, material quality, and my subjective experience on the mattress, I’m confident most sleepers will find the pressure relief to be outstanding.
Off-Gassing Test
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance Elite had a strong smell upon the initial unboxing. The mattress smelled for 7 days. This is 0.3 days shorter than the average smell duration of 7.3 days.

Company
Brooklyn Bedding mattresses come with a 120-night trial period and a lifetime warranty. Shipping is free. Returns are $99.
| Company Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Data |
|---|---|---|---|
| Returns | 40% | 7.0 | $99 |
| Trial Period | 30% | 8.0 | 120 nights |
| Warranty | 20% | 10 | Lifetime |
| Shipping | 10% | 10 | $0 |
| Country of Origin | 0% | USA |
Comparing 113+ brands tested to date, the average trial period is 193 nights, 73 nights more than Brooklyn Bedding offers. While 100 nights still gives you over 3 months to decide, it certainly isn’t the longest trial period we’ve seen.

The lifetime warranty is an attractive feature for sleepers thinking about the long haul. Among all mattresses I’ve tested, 41% have lifetime warranties, and the average warranty length for the remaining 59% of mattresses is 13 years.
How firm is Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance Elite?
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance Elite is available in 3 firmness options – Soft, Medium, and Firm.
Medium Firmness
For this review, we tested the Medium option and it has a medium-firm feel with a 6 out of 10 rating.

Soft Firmness
I would estimate the soft version to have a firmness rating of 4 out of 10, where 10 is the most firm.

Firm Firmness
If you’re looking for a firm feel, I would estimate the Firm version to have a firm feel of 8 out of 10 on our firmness scale.

Support & Sleeping Positions
Support on the Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance Elite is outstanding. During our tests, I felt well supported in all sleeping positions.
| Support Factor | Data |
|---|---|
| Comfort Layer | 6.00″ |
| Support Layer | 9.50″ |
| Firmness | Soft, Medium-Firm, and Firm |
| Body Contour | Dramatic |
| Zoned Support | Yes |
| Reinforced Edge | Yes |
The mattress is equipped with a 9.5″ support layer. This is 1.6″ thicker than the average support layer thickness of 7.9″, based on all of our tests to date. The ThermoBalance Elite is available in 3 firmness levels—soft, medium, and firm.
We tested the medium version and that’s going to be the ideal choice for most sleepers. However, if you prefer more pushback, less sinkage, and you sleep mostly on your back and stomach, the firm version could also work.

By the same token, if you want deeper sinkage, a more plush feel, and sleep exclusively on your side, the soft version could work. All that said, most sleepers should go with the medium version.
Check out the table below to see the sleeper weights and sleeping positions that would be best suited for this mattress.
| Sleeper Weight | Stomach Sleeper | Side Sleeper | Back Sleeper |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under 150 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| 150-250 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| 250-300 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
This mattress uses zoned support via the coil unit. We have 3 support zones, providing more support in the middle of the mattress, which helps reduce sagging and creates better support where most sleepers carry more weight.
In addition, we also have extra supportive coils along the edges, extending the usable surface area for sleeping, sitting, lounging, and more.
Based on all of my tests to date, an analysis of the materials, and my subjective experiences, I’m confident that most sleepers will find support on the Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance Elite is outstanding.

The Cover
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance Elite has a plush, 2.25″ pillow top cover. It contains phase change material that gives the mattress a “cool-to-the-touch” feel

The Comfort Layer
The comfort layer is 6.00″ thick and made of many different layers of foam. Directly below the pillow top cover, there is a 1.0″ memory foam layer (gray foam) followed by two layers of poly foam—a 1.0″ poly foam (blue foam) as well as a 0.75″ poly foam (gray foam).

The last foam layer within this setup is a 1.0″ memory foam (green foam). These four layers work together to create a very robust comfort layer and exceptional pressure relief.
The Support Layer
The support layer is 9.50″ thick and made of an 8.0″ pocketed coil support sandwiched by two foam layers. Above the coils, there is a 0.75″ poly foam (blue foam) and below the coils is a 0.75″ support foam (white foam).

All three of these materials work together to provide zoned support across the entire mattress.
Product Evolution
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance Elite is a part of a larger ThermoBalance collection, new to the brand in 2026. Among the ThermoBalance collection are 4 different hybrids, all aimed at exceptional cooling performance.

Helix Midnight Elite
Foam + Microcoils + Support Coils
The Helix Midnight Elite is a 15.5″ hybrid mattress available in 1 firmness level—medium. But I will also note that the Helix Elite collection offers a range of firmness levels across other model names. The price is higher on the Helix, but it may be a consideration for sleepers who truly want a luxury experience.
For Value

Winkbed
Lower Price, Great Performance
The Winkbed is a 14″ hybrid mattress available in 3 firmness levels—soft, medium-firm, and slightly firm. This mattress has a 5.0″ comfort layer, which gives it excellent pressure relief for sleepers of all positions. Like the ThermoBalance, it also earns a 10/10 for cooling and pressure relief, but is offered at a sub-$2K price.
For Thin Cover

Leesa Sapira
Good For Back + Stomach Sleepers
The Leesa Sapira is an 11″ hybrid mattress available in 1 firmness level—medium-firm. This mattress has less sinkage than the ThermoBalance and may be a better pick for back or stomach sleepers. It also has a less dramatic contour and faster material responsiveness.
