Best For
- Low price point, under $500 for a queen mattress
- Deep sinkage
Considerations
- Only available in King or Queen mattress size
- Scores in the bottom 1% of all mattresses tested to date
- Does not offer any mattress warranty—huge red flag
Our Verdict
The Bedstory is a 12″ hybrid mattress with a quilted cover, poly foam comfort layer, and pocketed coil support base. It has a basic design and a low price tag designed to appeal to sleepers on a tight budget.
This mattress is available in a single firmness, 6 out of 10, giving the mattress a medium-firm feel.
It has deep sinkage and a moderate level of bounce. If you like deep engagement when sitting or lying on a mattress, this level of sinkage could be right for you.
In our performance tests, the Bedstory earned an overall score of 6.49, ranking in the bottom 1% of all mattresses tested to date.
Of course, the low price may be an incentive to overlook the poor performance for some sleepers. A queen mattress is only $399, 69% less than the average hybrid mattress. For a hybrid at an unreasonably low price point, the Bedstory technically is that.
But also remember, this mattress is not backed by any warranty if materials fail down the road. In my view, this is a huge red flag. It is insanely rare for a mattress brand to not offer a warranty. In my 11 years of testing, I believe I’ve only seen one or two mattresses not offer any type of warranty.

How is Bedstory Hybrid Different?
The Bedstory Hybrid is a 12″ hybrid with below-average overall performance and a price tag that is also well below the average level—70% less than the average hybrid mattress.
Advantages
The biggest advantage of the Bedstory mattress is clearly the price. At only $430, the Bedstory is one of the cheapest hybrid mattresses we’ve tested to date.
Neutral Factors
The Bedstory mattress has deep sinkage and moderate bounce levels. The sex score is also right at the average level, making it a bit of a neutral factor.
Disadvantages
Disadvantages include lower cooling performance, higher levels of motion transfer, and slower material response time. Pressure relief is also a big issue on this mattress. With only 2.0″ of comfort material, the Bedstory is just not supportive and causes many pressure point issues when sitting or lying on the mattress.

Cooling Test
The Bedstory Hybrid has poor cooling. During our tests, I felt a significant level of heat retention around my body.
Baseline Temp.
77.0° F
Max Temp.
94.9° F
Ending Temp.
81.0° F
Max Temp.

Ending Temp

- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
The mattress did not seem to breathe well and there was notable heat all around and under my body. The materials of the Bedstory are problematic. In terms of quality, this is among the worst foams we’ve ever tested.
The foams look and feel incredibly cheap. Cheap foams like this simply don’t breathe well and are more susceptible to heat retention, which is exactly what we measured in our objective tests. The cover also looks and feels low quality.
As with foams, these types of covers just don’t allow air to flow as easily through the mattress, which hinders cooling performance.
In our objective temperature tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 94.9° F. This is 5.1° more than the average of 89.8° F, based on all of our tests to date.
Heat Dissipation Over Time

When we consider the combination of objective data, my subjective experiences, and an analysis of the materials, I’m confident in my view that cooling is poor.
Sinkage Test
The Bedstory Hybrid has deep sinkage. During our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 2.42″. This is 0.26″ more sinkage than the average sinkage depth of 2.16″, based on all of our tests to date.
Sinkage Depth
2.42″
Sinkage Feel
Deep
The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

The mattress creates a balanced type of body contouring hug. It’s an even and non-polarizing feel. The mattress doesn’t feel overly dramatic in any way. The hug, sinkage, and contour is neither too much or too little. That said, the feel still leaves much to be desired.
A balanced body contouring hug and even feel can be great, provided we have high-quality foams and a sufficiently thick comfort layer. However, both of those are lacking and as a result, the total comfort dynamic suffers greatly.
Motion Transfer Test
The Bedstory Hybrid has a high level of motion transfer. During our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 13.08 m/s². This is 50% more motion transfer than the average of 8.74 m/s².
Max. Acceleration
4.81 m/s²
Min. Acceleration
-8.27 m/s²
Accel. Range
13.08 m/s²
When we look at the material design of the mattress, it’s no surprise to see such a high level of motion. We have a 12” total profile and 10 of those inches are metal springs. Springs simply create more bounce and more motion, whereas foam typically reduces bounce and motion.
With only 2” of foam it’s simply not enough to overcome the high motion generated by the 10” spring unit.
The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.
In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.15 seconds.
Motion declines thereafter, but we then see a secondary spike from 0.51 to 0.65 seconds. It’s not until 0.94 seconds that we return to near-zero levels of energy.

The total motion picture is simply not good. We have a high initial motion spike, a moderately high secondary motion spike, and a motion duration that exceeds the average. The Bedstory has a high level of motion that is likely to disturb sleeping partners during the night.
Response Test
The Bedstory Hybrid is a mixed bag for material responsiveness, with a fast mostly recovered response time and a slow fully recovered response time.
Mostly Recovered
0.4 sec.
Complete Recovery
1.4 sec.
In our mostly recovered test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.4 seconds, which is 0.03 seconds faster than the average of 0.43 seconds, based on all of our tests to date.
In our fully recovered responsiveness test, we measured a recovery speed of 1.4 seconds, which is 0.42 seconds slower than the average of 0.98 seconds. The two material types within the mattress have markedly different response speeds.
The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.
The 10” coil unit rebounds back to shape effectively instantly. This allowed the mostly recovered response time to earn a fast rating. However, the full material recovery takes longer due to the 2.0” comfort layer.
These materials simply take a moment or two longer to fully return to their original shape. While the full material response is slower than average, it’s not so slow that I’m overly worried.
Bounce Test
The Bedstory Hybrid has a moderate level of bounce. During our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 9.99″. This is 0.73″ more bounce than the average of 9.26″, based on all of our tests to date.
Max. Depth

Max. Rebound

Total Bounce

Max. Sinkage Depth

Max Bounce Height

The Bedstory is built mostly with metal coils. Metal coils typically create lots of bounce and that’s exactly what we measured here.
The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.
While we do have a 2.0” foam comfort layer that is slightly lowering the bounce, the 10” coil unit still rebounds bounce at a greater than average level. The higher bounce helps ensure the mattress is easier to move around on and enhances sex performance.
Edge Support Test
The Bedstory Hybrid has good sitting edge support and good lying edge support.
Max Sinkage
4.00″
Lying Support
Good
In our sitting edge support test, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 4.00″. This is 0.04″ less sitting sinkage than the average of 4.04″, based on all of our tests to date.
The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

While sitting directly on the edge the mattress maintained its shape, supported my body, and did not collapse. Edge support while lying was a similar story.
While lying directly on the edge of the mattress, I felt that the support was good in all sleeping positions.
The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.

Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.

The mattress appears to use reinforced coils running along the perimeter of the mattress.
However, the BedStory website isn’t exactly clear about the specs or how many rows of reinforced coils. Even so, the edge support performance for both sitting and lying was solid.
Sex Test
The Bedstory Hybrid has good sex performance. On the positive side, noise is minimal, edge support is good, and bounce is high. Edge support and bounce are the most critical factors.
Mattresses that lack bounce are more strenuous to have sex on. Bedstory has 9.99” of total bounce height, which is more than average and is helping to improve amorous activities.
Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
---|---|---|---|
Bounce | 65% | 8.7 | High |
Edge Support | 20% | 8.8 | Good |
Noise | 5% | 10 | Minimal |
Pressure Relief | 5% | 5.0 | Poor |
Cooling | 5% | 5.0 | Poor |
Likewise, sitting edge support measured at 4.0”, which is sufficient to create robust edge support and extend the sexable surface area of the mattress. On the negative side, both pressure relief and cooling are poor.

As a result, the mattress simply isn’t as comfortable to have sex on. Nevertheless, the Bedstory Hybrid earned a good sex score due to its strong performance from bounce and edge support.
Pressure Relief Test
The Bedstory Hybrid has a poor level of pressure relief. During our tests, I felt significant pressure points on my body. I found the mattress to be incredibly stiff and uncomfortable.
Comfort Layer
2.0″
Support Layer
10.0″
The mattress is equipped with 2.0″ of comfort material, including a 1.0” quilted cover and 1.0” poly foam layer. The total comfort layer is 2.16″ less comfort material than the average comfort layer thickness of 4.16″, based on all of our tests to date.
Certainly, a thinner-than-average comfort layer isn’t great. However, beyond quantity, this is a quality issue.

The foam layers used in the Bedstory are simply low quality. These are among the worst and most low-quality foams I’ve tested in my 11-year testing career.
They look and feel incredibly cheap both in hand and on the body. The feel is stiff, hard, and it fails to relieve any substantial level of pressure on the body.
When I consider the objective pressure mapping tests, material thickness, material quality, and my subjective experience on the mattress, I’m confident most sleepers will find the pressure relief to be poor.
Pressure Map – Side Sleepers

Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
---|---|---|
Side Sleepers | 0.14 | 0.93 |
Pressure Map – Back Sleepers

Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |

Off-Gassing Test
The Bedstory Hybrid had a strong smell upon the initial unboxing. The mattress smelled for 7 days.
Initial Smell Strength
Strong
Off-Gassing Period

This is 0.6 days more than the average of 6.4 days. The mattress has a typical polyurethane smell.
Company
Bedstory mattresses come with a 100-night trial period and includes both free shipping and free returns. For reference, the average trial period is 179 nights, and Bedstory is quite a bit shorter.
Company Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Data |
---|---|---|---|

Bedstory also lacks one other very important factor—the warranty. Bedstory mattresses do not come with a warranty. This is incredibly rare. Virtually every mattress I have ever tested included a warranty.
How firm is Bedstory?
The Bedstory is available in a single firmness, 6 out of 10, which gives the mattress a medium-firm feel.

Many sleepers find this firmness to be ideal, but as we discussed in the performance sections above, a mattress’s comfort is more than just its firmness. This mattress lacks quality materials that would otherwise make it comfortable and supportive.
Support & Sleeping Positions
Support on the Bedstory Hybrid is mediocre. During our tests, I felt an insufficient level of support during our tests. The Bedstory feels both incredibly springy and incredibly cheap.
The mattress is equipped with a 10.0″ support layer. This is 2.13″ thicker than the average support layer thickness of 7.87″, based on all of our tests to date. While it’s great to see a thicker-than-average comfort layer, the quality of the coil unit feels mediocre.

When I see a taller coil unit, especially more than 8.0”, in a super budget-friendly mattress I am immediately concerned about the coil quality. Typically, this means they have stretched the coil to further elongate it for increased height, while using the same quantity of metal that would normally be utilized in a 6” or 8” coil unit.
All that to say, when we consider the quality, performance, and feel of both the coil unit and 2.0” comfort layer, it leaves much to be desired. I found the mattress to be unsupportive and created significant pressure relief issues.

Based on all of my tests to date, an analysis of the materials, and my subjective experiences, I’m confident most sleepers will find support on the Bedstory Hybrid is mediocre.
Check out the table below to see the sleeper weights and sleeping positions that would be best suited for this mattress.

The Cover
The cover of the Bedstory is 1.0″ quilted cover with tufted accents to hold the cover fabric in place. According to the manufacturer, there is a convoluted foam followed by a bamboo Charcoal-infused memory foam.

Although these materials sound nice on paper, they failed to impress in our performance tests. The cover is soft and allows for deep sinkage, but also really struggles with heat retention.
The Comfort Layer
Beneath the cover is a 1.0″ poly foam. This layer is extremely thin, comparing the average comfort layer thickness of 4.2″. I would have really liked to have seen a thicker comfort layer above the support layer for better comfort and pressure relief.

The Support Layer
Beneath the 2.0″ comfort layer and cover is the meat of the mattress—a 10″ pocketed coil base. This mattress does use reinforced coils at the edge of the mattress for better support when sitting or lying at or near the edge (as shown in blue below).

Product Evolution
The Bedstory Hybrid has a relatively limited history. According to the Internet Archive, it first launched in 2024.. Since it hit the market, there have been no major changes made to the mattress.
